For whatever reason, despite the smaller size compared to its counterparts in the suburbs, this store still seems to have everything you need. The only downside is that the aisles are a bit narrower than the ones in the 'burbs. Bright typical Safeway interior. Pro Tip: Be aware that cell reception inside may be limited due to the concrete roof supporting the parking lot above the store. Fun Fact: Truth be told, this particular Safeway store has been in the Outer Sunset since at least the 1960s! Getting Here: Parking is on the roof, and if you own an EV, there are some huge EV charging stalls and a Muni bus stop right out in front! I shopped at the Safeway on Noriega today, and because I was not wearing my contacts, I was extra dependent on staff to navigate the store. Every staff member I asked for assistance was incredibly helpful and courteous. Stop the profiling. I had 4 employees surround me at self checkout with one accusing me of stealing. This was my favorite Safeway until this night. I'm used to coming here regularly and seen the same employees for a good year or two, but I will not be spending my money here for a long while. I'm in self checkout for a reason, I don't want any interaction with the employees and to keep it going quick; I didn't need help with bagging or scanning products and didn't need to be accused. Having two security guards standing at the front door does not make me feel safe. They literally watched a man walk out without paying for his things. They did nothing. Safeway delivery is HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!! Ordered $137. Groceries cut the week... received 6 bags.... 2 bags of detergent - (correct, ) 2 bags of someone else's order , frozen items & dairy item's (WRONG) 2 bags of spinach, tomatoes & avocados (correct) MISSING: salmon, steak, romain lettuce, dill, mint, olive oil..... (WRONG) ROUGHLY $70 of order was not received!!!! I have had so many problems with Safeway orders that I stood outside my home, with the driver and went through the bags with him. We circled all missing items! Somehow...2 weeks later... still fighting with customer service on fraudulently charged items!!!!!!! Problem so bad, I had to place an order with Whole Food for sand kittens on same day... in order to have dinner. This cost my $234.00, 1 week of groceries..literally 3 pieces of meat and veggies for salad. I do have receipts and pictures.... Safeway delivery is a joke!!!! Hard Pass!!!! Arrived at the service counter at 7:52pm (hours are 8am-8pm) and patiently waited for 15 minutes as the person helped other guests. When it was my turn, she stated that it was after 8pm and the counter was closed. I let her know that I was in fact in line before 8pm (check videos 06/23/25) and was told systems are closed at 8pm. I knew this to not be true because have been helped past 8pm before (due to a line) and also the person in front of me was helped after 8pm too. Add insult to injury, when I got in line, the lady was no where to been seen for 5 or so minutes while people lined up for the counter. I understand it can be busy but if you're going to turn away someone in line well before the closing time make sure you're at the counter helping these customers. For someone that needs to make arrangements just to be able to make it to the service counter before the 8pm closing, it's outrageous to be turned away because the employee and/or the people in front of you needed extra time. I thought it was common practice, if you are in line before 8pm you will get helped but not at this Safeway. read more

But I recommend being reasonable with the requests and not over-doing it as this isn't a fast food production line. The bread is soft and fresh. Worst Safeway in all of San Francisco, perhaps the state of California. I go long periods of time without coming in here although it's in the neighborhood - only to be reminded of how horrible it is when I pop in. Every single item for pharmacy, health, toothpaste, etc., is under lock and key. I waited 20 minutes for someone to come and unlock it. Even though I was irritated I told her she has a tough job that she has to keep running back-and-forth to unlock stuff. This safeway is near my house so I shop here for my groceries. It's terrible that all the front parking is charging stations for electric cars! So we have to park upstairs and for months now the elevator is out of order. Does Safeway think we go to shop for 1 item? If you have a load of groceries how are you suppose to get it upstairs to the 2nd floor without an elevator. You have to leave your store bought items in your cart downstairs and walk up the stairs with as many bags as you can carry and leave the other bags to come back down to pick it up? One location of which I will never return. The store itself was half put together and reeked of low tide while shopping. Very small selection of items, cramped and crowded (surprisingly). Even after all of this I decided to try and power through the purchasing process only to be met with good ol' profiling. I was told prior to purchasing That I would only get bags based on the amount I purchased...? Not sure how I am supposed to guestimate the amount of bags I would need before putting the items in them. Any other day I would of just carried the items out in hand since I don't want to increase my own carbon footprint. But I had too many to carry and asked politely before being met with the "pay first" reply. This Safeway is smack dab in the middle of nowhere to begin with and not easily accessible to 90% of The City. However I was in the neighborhood and figured I would stop in. Terrible mistake. Overall this place is not the best place to go if you're of African decent. If you're heading to The City and forgot a few items I personally would set a reminder for yourself on one of your devices and not visit this store. If you still forgot there are other alternatives such as local bodegas and grocery stores in The City who value not only your business but will treat you in a respectful manner. As you can see from my other reviews I have not had the most pleasant experiences lately in The Bay Area...However! I write these reviews based on my experience so that others will benefit from the experiences that I have. Been shopping here for awhile, simply because it's convenient. My primary complaint is the Friday Fried Chicken special for $5. First of all, when they first started having this promotion, the chicken pieces were decent size, but now the pieces are like half the size of what they were originally. The thighs are not full thighs. It's partial thigh with the back. I found that the thigh bones are always cut in half. What makes it worse is when Safeway employees pick through the chicken for the biggest pieces to give to each other when they purchase for themselves. And they cut the line and do it in plain sight where we can all see. Also, the lines are always super long. It's a good deal for $5, but waiting over 20 minutes for each fried batch where sometimes only 3 customers buy up the whole batch, and now with the smaller chicken pieces, it's not really worth it. Also, this Safeway needs to work on their customer service. The last time I went, the self check out was not reading my dollar bills and when I called the cashier for assistance, he just came and rudely snatched the bill out of my hands and proceeded to try to feed it into the machine without saying anything. read more

I came here for some groceries around 6:30pm today. I didn't think they would be out of so many things! I guess they don't restock often? The good thing about this location is that there's plenty of parking on ground floor and the roof. What I didn't like was that I wanted to purchase the individual long carrots and some white button mushrooms, but they were practically almost all gone. There were also a bunch of items that were expiring soon too. I think the workers should check more often for the expired goods. Their Zucchini was quite expensive. However, at least the employees that I encountered were nice and friendly. I did end up buying a lot of goodies, which some were on sale. Overall, it was a mediocre experience. I wish the green grapes were fresher. On another note, Kudos to them for having the "Two Good" brand of Greek Yogurt. It's a low carb yogurt for those of you who are wondering! One thing I would like to add is that when Safeway has steaks on sale, I advise to stock up lol. They're delicious, but you also need to know how to pick the good ones! I would still come to shop here again, but much earlier! So if you want more variety, definitely come here earlier than I did! There's also a self-checkout area, but I would NOT advise to use it if you are purchasing produce like veggies and fruits that are priced by the lbs. You would have to manually enter it in yourself what the cost/lbs is for each item. It just takes more effort than actually getting in the regular line. read more

This store is literally a scam with the actual worst customer service ever. They advertise and list sale prices but you need the app to "clip" the coupon. The app is full of glitches and displays only error messages so there is no way to get the advertised "deal." Sales associate (older gentleman Michael I believe) stated there is no override feature and is not able to offer so much as an apology, let alone actually able to sell the product at the advertised price. Huge bait and switch to get you into the store and then have to pay the higher prices. Also no bags in the bagging area. read more

Convenient and open late, this was a perfect spot for the neighborhood I stayed in. Clean and organized, everything you'd want in a grocery store is here. Even Starbucks! Parking spaces can be found just outside the front in a small lot. Also, you can find more parking at the top of the structure above the grocery store. Flat parking lots are always appreciated when in San Francisco. Safeway is a hometown grocery store that use to have grocery chains in southern California a long time ago. A thing of the past, I think they're just located in northern California now. A rare gem these days. read more

I'm in SF taking care of my elderly aunt and find I needed some essentials so I looked up the closest Safeway which turns out to be on Noriega. I get there and there are no available carts. I don't like to use baskets because I inevitably end up lugging way more than I had anticipated plus I knew I needed sugar so it was going to get heavy. I see a bunch of carts and go to get one but they are locked up. I go to the clerk to ask if they can be unlocked and he says he can't but he will get a manager. The manager says due to theft, they cannot unlock them. Wait, what? So, you need carts but you are going to keep that 20 locked up so they don't get stolen? SMH. I am 63 years old, with back issues. I need a cart. She orders a worker to go up to the top parking lot and collect empty carts. I was just up there, and had been marveling at how clean and empty it was up there - no carts left parked randomly or rolling around in the wind - there weren't any. After waiting 5 minutes for a cart to free up or for the worker to get back, I started shopping. Another 5 minutes later, I returned to see if there were any available carts. No. So I put down what I had gathered and went outside to stalk someone to get their cart when they were done. There was a lady who was possibly the slowest grocery unloaded I had ever seen packing her car. I wait. And wait. And wait. It feel as as if she has slowed down even more since I had her in my sights. I'm beginning to realize that the manager's right and that maybe there's no carts because people take them. That's right, they pack them in their SUVs and bring them back when they are ready to shop again. Or maybe it's like the Hotel California, you can check in any time you like but you can never leave. Because the store is full of people with carts but no one's leaving. Then I spy a man unloading his cart and perhaps too eagerly rush up to him. "Need this?" he says. "Yes, please!!!" I roll off hardly even giving a thought to being annoyed that the sanitizing station looks as if it has not been replenished since late 2020. After I've finished, I finally collect my groceries and take the cart to the elevator to get to the second level parking. There's a tattered paper sign on the door saying "we apologize to our customers that the elevator is broken." Well no wonder the lot was so empty!! I lug my groceries up two flights of stairs thinking "never again." Welp, that's just my two cents for anyone else who may not be familiar with the area. As far as Safeways in the City go, this is as good as it gets. It certainly is better than the one in Richmond that I used to frequent when I lived in Inner Sunset, which always ran out of Chinese soymilk and gai lan and was always insanely crowded at checkout. This Safeway always has everything I want and there's a small parking lot in the back as well as a larger one on the roof that allows elevator access into the store. I'm also impressed with their flower selection and the different plants they have for sale. The store itself is clean and the staff are competent. Other pluses are the Asian items they have available (Filipino ice cream, Beijing yogurt, Sogo bakery bread) and a Red Box! read more
