The staff did a great job managing the crowd--they handed out the bags individually to each customer, which kept things fair and prevented any chaos or people exceeding the purchase limit. I was relieved and excited that I was able to secure all four bags I wanted. After that, I took some time to browse and do a quick shop. I really appreciate how many healthy snack options they carry--it made it easy to pick out a few good choices for my little one. At checkout, the experience was just as pleasant. The cashier was kind enough to offer my son a sticker, which was such a sweet gesture. The whole transaction was smooth and hassle-free. UPDATE: I spoke to upper management a week after this incident unfolded and was told I would get a call to follow up regarding this since the employee in question was out. It's been a month now and I never once received a call or update. I've even came into the store a few times to follow up and other crew members said they would take a message and relay it to management, but I never received any follow up whatsoever. I find myself opting for this Trader Joe's at Stonestown often if just for the ease of parking. though I am located in the Outer Richmond, if not shopping during rush hour this location can be more convenient then a sister Store located just outside of the Richmond near Geary. Normally the store is well stocked, with clean bathrooms, and an elevator Option if the escalator to the lower level seems challenging. It's a decent sized store with ample floor space when overflow product displays are justified. Great staff, stock that rotates quickly, and has numerous check out stands feed often by a single feeder line so need to game the fastest checkout. As with any Trader Joe's, I look for latest released items that are often tasty, innovative, and fairly priced. read more

First Sunday of 2026, right before school break ends and many head back to work from their holiday vacation...whoa, it was off the hook. The checkout line literally wrapped around the whole store. But it is not took about 10-12 minutes to cashier. Now that's efficiency.'there many staff on the floor, one at the end of the line (with a sign), and one at the beginning of the line directing the next customer to the appropriate cashier. And all the cash registers were staffed. It's one thing to be busy but it's another to ensure you're doing everything be efficient while still providing great service. This Trader Joe's seems smaller than other ones in the City, but it may be perception? For one, it's located in a basement, so one has to take an escalator downstairs. I think the one in downtown also is same setup, but I digress. Secondly, due to tighter spacing, some of the items are not located next to each other like other bigger stores I'm used to so I had to circle a little bit more to find things. After several months of looking for the Korean kimbap I finally spotted some in the freezer section. There's a two per customer purchase. Fully cooked you reheat the package in the microwave for two minutes. The veggie filling was good but the rice looked weird. Overall was edible. 9 pieces in the package. This Trader Joe's is conveniently located at Stonetown Shopping Center. There is plenty of parking. And it's easy for commuters to take public trasportation here since so many MUNI lines stop at Stonestown. Also convenient for students at SFSU, whether they live in the dorms, nearby, or to pick up something on the way home after classes are over. The store is actually on a lower level. You enter the doors and then take the escalator or elevator down. When you are finished shopping, you can push your cart onto the "up" escalator for the carts and it will meet you up at street level. There are 2 restrooms ; they are on your left after you get off of the escalator. The store is a decent size for the location. For some reason I was expecting it to be more cramped inside. They have a check out system I had not seen before at other Trader Joe's location. You enter on the left side if you have a cart, and you enter on the right side if you have a hand basket. Both will feed into the "next available" set of registers. I like this more than individual lines for each register... because sometimes you choose poorly and end up in a slow line. The one downside to this location is the narrow sidewalk out front. It gets jammed up with pedestrians walking by or trying to get on/off the buses, while Trader Joe's shoppers are trying to come out with their shopping carts. . read more

Popular mall location - probably due to the bus stop and proximity to the college. Shopped a day before Christmas Eve and everything was in stock. Pleasantly surprised at the experience just days before Christmas. I would expect certain things sold out - crowds - black Friday type stuff - but it was nowhere to be found. Went in for the pre cooked turkey half breast. I never tried it before but I've always had my eye on it as an option for people who don't want to cook for a moderate group of people. Got some ready made sides - roasted vegetables and stuffing for a complete no fuss dinner. Turkey was well seasoned and tender - stuffing had apples - everything was great. For dessert had some Zanzes cheesecake and everybody was happy. Check out lines were fast and there was one line for everybody. I think I like this better than the typical TJs checkout process. I usually go to Whole Foods next door and it was my first time visiting this location. Don't let the escalator stop you - just a short ride directly under Target. read more

Sometimes they are really horrible . One time, they had overcharged me when they charged me an extra item on my receipt that I didn't buy. They probably rang it up and didn't delete it before they started checkout with me. I saw it when I got home but it was too late to complain. Another time they put the wrong price on an item and cash register rang up a higher price, I asked them to check and they just pulled the cheaper price tag off, and didn't honor the cheaper price when it was their own mistake to put the wrong price. Other than that, I really like their flower section. The prices are affordable and the flowers are fresh and come in varieties. read more

They're sweet and friendly. but as usual, some of the stock people have a bit of an attitude, but that's ignorable and I see they get cycled out or handled! five stars because the store is clean it's well stocked the cashiers are fast and they're so cute a lot of college kids and retirees too. A solid Trader Joes in San Francisco. It is located down an escalator in a basement so it feels tight and can be quite crowded depending when you go (but the crowds are at most Trader Joes locations). The good thing with the crowds is the turnover is high so everything seems fresh. Check-out has always been very efficient in this location. Prices are competitive and seem lower than Safeway and Whole Foods for most items. There's plenty of parking in the Stonestown lot outside, but the safety can be hit or miss, as I've seen the aftermath of a car window break-in during one out of the 10 or so times I've been there. There is security in the store but the parking lot probably needs more monitoring. With the popularity, SF could easily use another new TJs location. read more

Plent of folks speak on their products but I'd like to focus on why they (and in particular this location) have such a strong following: customer service and shopping experience. First off, this location has always been fully staffed as long as I can remember.. holiday season, pandemic, summers, rain, sleet, snow, etc. They do a fantastic job keeping things stocked (pro tip, that's usually on Mondays). I'm a mid-week shopper to try and beat the rush but when SF state is back in full swing, the store can feel like a zoo. No fret! They reorganized the store a few months ago which effectively doubled the amount of cashiers available to check people out. The new layout also confused where to find my snackies but felt good to find my adult beverages in their designated home! Staff and service is always attentive and friendly which makes a stressful shopping experience well.. less stressful. I'm happy that TJ still gets the love it's due even though Target and Whole Foods moved into the neighborhood in recent years. This is a testemant to not just the quality of products but to me, more of the shopping experience. I prefer to shop at TJ because of that and encourage you to do the same! read more

Did somebody say Portuguese Custard Tarts??? Well.. the long wait is finally over. They hit the shelves yesterday. I called customer service to check if they were in stock. Rebecca, the representative, was super friendly and helpful with assisting me through the phone. Really appreciate for her patience and service. Moving onto the tarts.. They go for $2.99 per box. Initially I thought the item would be bigger. It comes in a 5x5x1 box. When I opened it, there were 4 tarts inside. If I had known that the tarts weren't wrapped in plastic inside, I would've been more gentle with it. Ahaha. $0.75 for a Portuguese tart.. I have to say it's pretty decent, but not quite the same as the ones you fine in the bakeries. I really liked the crust. It was super flaky and crunchy. The center tasted more like the standard custards found in cream puffs. Couldn't really taste the egg flavor though. A little too sweet for my liking. I know they can't do too much about this but it's always so busy and overwhelming in this store! A lot of things are out of stock, and the employees are always annoyed because it's never ending. The main reason for writing this review, though, was a negative experience I had the other day trying to buy a bottle of wine. I shared a basket with my friend, and we split our items up to pay separately. When I walk up to the check stand, the guy asked me for my id, and then said I needed to go get my friend to check her id. I waited for him to finish scanning everything to make sure that's what he actually meant, and he told me to get her again. She dint bring her id, but I asked if we could just show a picture. Of course he said no, and brought over the manager. She was the weirdest part. She comes over, looks me up and down, and says "your friend needs to show her id". I said "oh she doesn't haven't it. I guess I won't buy then, this has never been a problem." She hits me with "oh ok well we follow the law here." and walks away. Listen I could understand if I was buying a bunch of hard alcohol or multiple bottles of wine, but I was just buying one, and it's not the law. It was a very cold night and the store was crowded at 6:30 pm. I was looking for granola bars and dropped my left Apple ear pod. Another customer said she heard it bouncing but we could not find it. After I searched for it and failed. Several trader Joe associates graciously helped me look around. Eventually I resigned to leave my name and number if it was discovered by other customers. This Trader Joe's is located at the Stonestown mall. It's on a lower level reachable by elevator or escalator. It's a bit smaller than some of the other local Trader Joe's. However, it's well stocked with high-quality products. The staff are friendly and helpful. Parking can occasionally be a challenge. It's also near bus stops and MUNI. read more

I really love the TJ foods I think they are moderately priced and fresh. Today I went in like regular and bought my weekly groceries typically I don't go over 70$ this time however it was 140$ as I was looking over the receipt I recognized a charge of 60$ and an additional 15$ fee. They charged me for who knows how many packs of water and the bottle service fee as well. I went in and nobody was there at guest services, I make eye contact with a cashier and they point to someone talking to a worker who I believe was on their break since they in line to buy something. I inch closer and signal to guest services. They help me with my issue, and considering they were very nonchalant about it, it seemed like a common mistake. I ask if I am able to get a cash refund hoping to avoid the processing times. They says no, I then explain how I am a bit frustrated since there is a processing fee and they begin to try and explain to me why there's nothing they can do about it... never did I ask for an explanation and I did not come at them with an attitude either. They goes back and forth for a little and I reiterate I'm not looking to argue just stating that this is annoying as a loyal customer hoping they'll understand it is something they should speak to the team about not me. An apology of course would have been great but the unnecessary back and forth was uncalled for. They then go on a spiel about how I keep replying to them and that they are "going to be quiet now". Wondering what they're like as a manager if this is how they treat guests. Moral of the story watch out for 60$ water charges ! read more
