Been in this store hundreds of times, never bothered anyone am friendly with my checkers, most importantly I pay for what I take. Today I'm greeted by a mean bleach blond security guard who tells me I'm not allowed in the score if I don't lock my scooter outside. I'm surprised she got off her phone long enough to say so, as she went right back to it as soon as she was done berating me. She wouldnt tell me her name or I would post it. I don't appreciate her attitude so I'm taking my business elsewhere. It's never been a problem before, I use the scooter to help assist me with my basket, no one else has ever had a problem with me at this location. It's a shame, but you have lost my business I'll take it elsewhere I don't appreciate the disrespectful and rude rent a cops you have employed. It's just any other Safeway, but I must say about lady works in Deli section, her name is Leza . I asked her name because her outstanding service and professionalism. It was her time to go home(she said), but she noticed we've waited for a long time, she took our order and made delicious sandwiches. This is the reason I give this Safeway for five stars. The service and kindness definitely make a place we want to revisit for sure. read more

#82/2016 I ran in with a friend to pick up two items, Rocky Farms chicken & wine. Street parking was easy, even at 6:30 on a holiday evening. Entering, the store seemed cluttered but it was the stench of nearly/spoilt seafood that really made an impression. My girlfriend regularly shops here for her family so if she was buying chicken and the case seemed cold, I followed her lead. (Sheep that I am). Anyone who knows me is aware how much I dislike Safeway. I'll make an exception for the store on 7th & Anza, especially if I'm there to buy organic, Sonoma-raised chicken that's reasonably priced. Mary's and Rosie's brands, you're too expensive and frankly not as good. read more

While I don't fault this particular Safeway location - I have to say that I was extremely disappointed in my last purchases here recently. I thought I might save some money on groceries by visiting this Safeway -instead of Whole Foods. Big mistake. I ended up paying seven dollars for a pint of blueberries (not organic and all the way from Canada) and thirteen dollars for a modest bag of cherries (not organic and many of them were bruised). Steel cut oat which are traditionally $3.99 at Whole Foods - was priced at $5.99 here. The rest of my purchases ended up being duds as well and I ended up paying over seventy dollars for just a small handful of items. I'm done with Safeway produce. When I can get a bag of cherries at $1.99 a lb at Haight Ashbury Market and can get far better blueberries for cheaper at Whole Foods - there's really no point in trekking out here. I'm a fan of Safeway's late hours - but don't think that you'll save here. You won't. Trust. read more

Had an average experience with Safeway. Parking wasn't too hard to find since we came here during the night time to get some essentials. The associates here were friendly and the store looked liked it was well-maintained. This Safeway was also stocked so we had no problem with that. Since the addition of Starbucks at this location, this store has gone from bad to worst. Parking is always difficult here, in front or upstairs. In front if one found parking would need to avoid all the cars illegally parked in the red zone. And when driving in front have to avoid all the double parked cars. And person who designed upstairs was on drugs, going in and out is difficult enough but with the addition of bad drivers makes accidents happen. Inside the store seems more like a combo meal; everything that people wanted compacted together in a small little box. And now that Starbucks joined in, Safeway staff uses the tables around Starbucks as a break room. read more

"You have to drink booze or you'll lose! It's Booze Time! Booze is good!" Said the stank-ass, most likely homeless man that ran up to us as we wandered around the Safeway. To be fair, he probably saw us as kindred spirits because I was riding on the shopping cart* like a jackass (my brother was pulling it). But still, this sort of encounter can happen to you if choose to patronize this Safeway. But other than potentially being harassed into participating in what I assume is a pagan ritual involving booze, this Safeway is all right. They have all the essentials you might need to stock a house you're staying in for a week: milk, cereal, fruit (although my mother squeezed some grapes and vetoed their purchase), cheap wine, coffee, tea, eggs, cookies, cheese and yes, booze. It doesn't seem like there are any better options in the neighborhood, but that's probably why the lines here are so long and crowded and hectic that it's almost stressful. I wish this was my go to grocery store since it is right around the corner from me. However, I would rather drive or get Instacart from anywhere else. I used to have Andronico's, which is sadly now also a Safeway. Specifically, the Noriega Safeway is very disorganized other than how things look on the shelf. Parking lot- An unsafe mess. Cars just create parking spots for themselves. In this narrow, tiny lot, people double park and park along the red curb. These cars are unattended, and no one at this grocery store seems to care about any of this. Staff- In general, I find the staff unhappy. (There is one young man who works checkout who is super friendly and helpful, but he is the exception.) They complain openly in front of customers. Truthfully, I don't blame them. Unhappy staff usually means poor management and a company that does not care. It shows in their customer service. I came early once to get some balloons before work. While there were a couple scattered employees, none of they claimed to be able to help me and told me I would have to wait until this one specific employee showed up, which I was unable to do as it would have been a one hour wait! Also, I have had multiple times waiting at the deli/hot foods/sandwich counter without any assistance although there were always employees behind the counter. Even when I said hello, I was told I had to wait for another person. Sorry-- but this Safeway just sucks. read more

They have a public bathroom in the back (on the side of the bakery). If you want o try a cookie before you buy 50, you can ask the kind guy behind the counter in the bakery section. Went yesterday 10/30/21 to get some groceries. My mon picked out a red velvet cake for me which is one of my favs from safeway. The made by date was 10/29 and it was supposed to be pulled off by 11/3 so we thought it was fine since it was only supposed to be a day old. However, i was going to eat it today for a snack and I saw suspicious white fuzz on both the cake crumbs on the top of the icing to the side of the cake. It's very feint in color in the picture but I will be returning this cake today to get a refund on my money. Needless to say, won't be getting cake from Safeway for a good while. This is a PSA for those who buy cake at Safeway to check if there's mold LOL. The Red Zone is always blocked. Store management doesn't really care to enforce. It has been discussed with them but whatever. Huge liability if there were to be an "emergency" in this building. Police and Fire services would be blocked out. So, I guess this Safeway had valet style parking. Nice! read more

I usually find what I need here. At one point the employees greeted you in the aisles and asked if you needed help with anything. They seemed to have stopped this great service and have turned into bitter hating workers. Some days the lines are super long and there's only like 2 cashiers working. They never open up another checkout line. Then there are days when the lines move very quickly. They seem to sell a few outdated products so make sure you check the date first before sticking it into your basket or cart. I once almost bought something that expired 3 months ago. *Phew* I'm so glad I checked the package. I haven't been inside since they remodeled. From the outside, it looks so dark inside. It also reminds me of Whole Foods. Good luck finding parking out front. There's plenty of parking on their roof though. read more

I purchased "fresh"!prawns there the other day and when I took them home and after cooking them it smelled like bleach. I read it was legally "cleaned". The staff members here are friendly and service is efficient. The inventory items on the shelves looks neatly organized. Quick spot for people to come in and run their grocery errands so it's good to have a Safeway here. I do like how they have half the store set up with self checkout stands and regular checkout stands. Layout here is similar to what you'd expect to see when you walk in to another Safeway location. The aisles are flexible and this is always a good thing. Safeway Supermarkets, Lucky Supermarkets, Lowe's and Home Depot Home Improvement Stores are one of the retailers with self checkout stands and traditional checkout stands. There are shelves where they had some basic school and office supply items so props for having these items available in inventory. This is the second Safeway store with Free Wi-Fi so props for this amenity. Parking: Street, Private Lot and Rooftop This is the third Safeway store with rooftop parking! read more

I just came to this store ( 2980 E Capitol Expy in san jose, CA) with a friend to buy some corn for the BBQ. When we got to the cashier guy he didn't allow us to buy the corn we had picked. I have noticed they have limit 12 corn per person and both of us want to have the 12 corn for each. He said that the corn is not enough for everyone and I have to explain to him that the limit was 12 at max for each person and he does not allow for both of us to buy. If you guys don't have enough is that the store responsibility? either stop false advertisement or let customers buy what in the store that they picked. March 2020 to approx. end of June 2020: Customers told not to bring their own bags as they may be germ filled, thus, Safeway will provide bags gratis. Approx. end of June 2020: Safeway charges for bags and not at the previous cost of $.10/each but is now $.25/each! I know The City allowed this idiotic misc. 'bag fee' to increase to $.25!! And now The City decided that customers may bring their own bags since studies show that germ transmission is almost nil to very very low. BUT Safeway cashiers refuse to bag the damned groceries! They will only bag the groceries if customers pay that stupid $.25 bag fee! Instead they will stand around and just look at the customer whilst the customer is struggling to put all of their groceries into bags. But why is it that these cashiers are told not to help with the bagging anyway especially as they are wearing GLOVES?! That stupid scam of a bag fee is already incorporated into the cost of the goods, the groceries just pocket the fees as they're not remitted to The City at all. So customers who choose to bring bags are being penalized by not having the cashiers assist them to bag their goods. However, before SIP they were okay to do so?! read more

Due to the pandemic, Tuesdays and Thursdays 6-9am are reserved for the elderly, pregnant women, and immunocompromised. They've also started limiting to 10 shoppers inside the store so be prepared to line up. I've always encountered friendly workers here: the 2 gentlemen in Produce, another gentleman in Yogurt/Cheese aisle, the lovely women at Self Check-out, and Shani and a friendly young man at Customer Service. Worst Safeway in the Sunset - They are the reason we now shop at Trader Joe This place is the den of laziness and poor service. Lack of selection, long lines and absolutely jaded employees. The pace of the cashiers makes snails look like Formula 1. An example of my experience there. Checked their customer service center hours ahead of my visit and walk in at 11am on a Thursday. Nobody so I wait and finally asked an employee passing by when someone would be there. Response "She is out to lunch so later" I asked "How long? Is your entire customer service center based on one person?" "No idea how long, she is at lunch, and nobody else will come". I mean... sure.. why don't you close the cashiers next time your manager needs to go to the bathrooms? or stop selling at the Deli when it's coffee break... Seriously go to Trader Joe at Westlake. It's almost shocking to see how much nicer their employees are. And if you really like Safeway just go to another location, maybe the one by Fulton (although lots of transients) or the nice one at Westfield Mall. read more

This Safeway has some of the rudest workers. This is in reference to the night crew. You better move out the way or they will run you over. It's happened a few times. Unique review as it pertains to employees and parking. I'm sitting here just a few minutes before Safeway opens its doors. Wanted to get a jump today and start the day off right. Early bird catches the worm! However I also have the unique pov to see that all the Safeway employees who open the store are all parking in the very few front of the store spaces. Every one of them..they see no problem as now just a minute before opening, every spot is filled. Talk about lazy employees and poor management. I've worked in retail, food, corporate and almost never does the employee get a cush spot right up in the front row! It's pretty disgusting to watch as the UNION employees who already get loads of benefits those of us outside of the union never reap. I have lived in the neighborhood for over 30 years and this is the main Safeway i go to. My main reason for going now is for the Chicken Teriyaki bowls in the deli. I find the customer service excellent and the people working there very helpful. So three weeks ago the Safeway elevator broke down once again ( the 3rd time for me while shopping). I am a senior citizen and drove down from the roof to the parking lot to get my food. I was honked at constantly by the two cars behind me as I loaded my car and when I went home I had forgotten a bag near the coin star station. I told myself with the reports of robberies up on the roof I am heading to another Safeway. BUT I have to say the friendly service, the close location, the Just for U pulls me back to this location. read more

I am writing a review today about an employee named Kelly. I used to shop here a lot but he is so unprofessional. He will close his lane when the lines are halfway down the isles. He makes disrespectful jokes about being an alcoholic when I buy wine. Most recently I came in here around 10 pm​ to buy a bottle of wine and my weekly produce and meat. I went to check out​ but noticed no cashier. I went to the self-service​ to ask the woman if there was a cashier. She apologized and called him over. Kelly then came over a few minutes later with an attitude. If you are the only cashier you should stay at the stand and not disappear​. There are​ a few extremely kind employees, but Kelly​ continues to ruin my shopping experience here. Horrible. Now I have to drive over to the beach or Taraval​ location. I've been coming this this Safeway since I was born. Back when I was overweight circa 2 decades ago, I would usually stop by for sweets, such as a candy bar. I remember cashiers in the 90s were more friendly than today. I recall an African-American cashier who complimented me on my hazel/green eyes! Nowadays, I rarely notice long lines. It's like any other Safeway you might find in the Sunset district: kind of high prices at times, small parking lot, workers smiling through the pain. I use to come here more often, when I lived close by. Also not all the stores carry pork buns, it's always nice thing to pick up. They try to keep the place clean enough, and it shows most days. Not great to park in front, best to find a spot in the lot above it. Just get your stuff and get out. Don't make life hard on the workers than it already is. read more

This Safeway has a (redbox.com) DVD vending machine that allows you to rent new releases for $1 per day. It certainly beats being in line at Blockbusters on a Friday night. If you live in Sunset, this Safeway is better than the one on Taraval and the one on Monterey Blvd, in terms of product selection. The service level is about the same. Some Yelpers complained about finding products on the shelves since the renovation. I have never had a problem because I do the loop thing with each aisle while I cross things off from my grocery list. Done in 20 minutes. Pluses: + Starbucks inside. Too bad no Peet's. + Great bakery. + Close to other eateries and BofA. Minuses: - Produce not as fresh or well-priced at Sunset Produce. - Long lines at night. This Safeway, to be polite "SUCKS". They run out of everything, No whole milk on the shelves after 4PM. Don't bother asking the manager either - he is way too busy to help a customer. I once tempted fate by buying a piece of cake from the bakery (not recommended for people with weak immune systems) and it was rotten, but still several days from expiration date. The registers always have a line, and the checkers - that's a whole other story. Where do they find these people? Don't get in William's line if you have an Item with more than 4 letters. Eggs and Milk are OK but nothing with more than 4 letters, since he reads everything he scans. The bigger the words, the longer the wait.(Please no spaghetti.) He takes forever.
