I want to write an update. I HAD to go here to get some medicine and while I was there, I rushed through the aisles to get some stuff I needed. The cashier said she does not believe in saying hello to people when I asked her why she and others do not say hello to greet me when I go through the line. I pointed out that I do not even go there a lot, and that it is the same very time. It was incredible to me. I have been in service for 30 years and that was disgusting to me that she said that. After a quick trip yesterday, I remembered another reason I stopped going to Safeway - QFC has better bread and cheese. Since I am a girl who essentially lives off bread, cheese, veggies and fruit, I find myself hard pressed to find a reason to drive to get groceries at Safeway when I can walk to QFC. Safeway will carry all your typical brand name staples at a decent price, but if you're into connoisseur's cheese and good baguettes and higher quality items, you're better off going to QFC for those. read more

I bought a family pack a deli meat here the other day and after I had it a few days I realized that it had expired 3 days before I bought it. I understand that in a store that literally carries tens of thousands of products, it is bound to happen. I just didn't expect it from the deli section! I called and they assured me that they would exchange or refund the purchase, but nobody keeps their grocery receipts... Guess I'm stuck? Well... this is my neighborhood Safeway. It may not be the best but it's the closest one I've got! The people in the deli area tend to have snotty attitudes. If you ask for fresh sliced meat, you will get the stink eye from these women. Don't you remember when the meat was always sliced fresh? When you could tell them how thin or thick you wanted it? Not anymore. Now it's a production. If you want a sandwich made or some of the hot and ready food, it's very likely you will once again get someone with an attitude problem. The milk refrigerators smell like sour milk. =( I will say this, the bakery is great. Carolyn made our wedding cake and it turned out so adorable. Safeway wedding cakes are more affordable and our guests said it was the first wedding cake they have eaten that actually tasted good! This Safeway is easily the largest grocery store in West Seattle with the biggest and best selection. Prices are always considerably lower then QFC and Thiriftway. Staff is always friendly and helpful. The pharmacy actually caught a prescription I'm allergic to that my doctor missed. With service like that, they sure live up to "Ingredients for Life"! Safeway was also recently voted the #2 healthiest grocery chain in america right behind Whole Foods at a fraction of the price. They in fact carry the largest line of organic foods out of anyone. The only knock I have on the place is it often gets very busy. As a result the produce department can get thrashed and the lines long, but hey! That's a grocery store for you. read more

Birthday central, one stop shop I love patronizing local businesses, but when you have to entertain two dozen kids, there's no better place to go than the Roxbury Safeway. Not just any Safeway, this Safeway. For my son's 3rd birthday, I managed to cover a custom cake, ice cream, balloons, and assorted paper goods under one roof. Not only was the shopping convenient, but the staff was all very nice. Beyond accommodating, they were pleasant and genuinely happy to serve. This last point is something that separates the Roxbury location from its peers. The cake was perfect, and the balloon lady gave me an extra few of each of the colors I ordered to replace those that popped on the way home. She knows her shit, I popped 3 stuffing them into my very-much-too-small car. Outside of birthday party supplies they do an above-average job, which, considering the area, is a superb effort. They put up with a lot of shit from ding dongs who just linger & loiter, so the fact the the store and parking lot are indistinguishable from their Kirkland location speaks to their great management and leadership. Their deli, produce, beer, and bakery are all excellent. They get a hard-earned, well-deserved thumbs up from me. Bottom Line: This is the spot for kids birthdays, and it's a miracle that the inside doesn't look like a Grocery Outlet in Oakland. I stopped in here last night to pick up lemon and garlic. This was my first time to this Safeway but it won't be my last. It may not be in the best part of town but the store is great. It's HUGE and bright and they had a "pretty" produce department. The display of their produce made everything look fresh and yummy and they had a nice selection of chili peppers to choose from, Serrano, jalapeno, habaneros, etc. And they have a huge, compared to what I'm use to at my normal Safeway, Hispanic food selection. I now know where to go to get my pork chorizo fix and cotija cheese along with a variety of Mexican hot sauces, plus they have a nice variety of tortillas too. Their Asian section is also bigger than my normal Safeway but not nearly as nice as their Hispanic food section. Apparently this Safeway has recently been remodeled over the past year or so which is why it's all nice and clean and bright inside. This Safeway is located within White Center and I've come across it a few times mainly to use 'other' services (not so much Safeway). They have a gas station which is nice if you use their card & can get the points to get money off the posted price. If not, it's not quite a deal compared to Costco and/or other gas stations. The other perk they have going for them is the big BECU branch inside their location. That was another thing that drew me there was needing to deposit quite a large sum of cash and needing a BECU ATM. I just felt more secure being 'inside' a store vs. a free standing ATM. The store itself is quite large and I'd consider it to be one of the more 'full service' Safeways but it's just another 'Safeway'. The deli was insane when I was there trying to get something to go for lunch. It's truly in White Center so just be aware of the people and the area you're in. The staff in the deli is short and you can feel the tension of the deli severs. This is my neighborhood grocery. I agree it is the best White Center has to offer. It's big, its accessable, and their stuff looks way better than Savon or Grocery Outlet. With that said, I drive all the way to Admiral to do my grocery shopping at that Safeway, and I will avoid this safeway if I can. This safeway is often out of things you would expect them to have. Like broccoli, green onions, or Cheerios for instance. I find that frustrating. And they have a very small selection of organic produce and organic products compared to the Admiral store. I get it--the demographic is different. They probably don't sell as much organic stuff and so they order less of it, and its not as fresh. But clearly someone is buying it because of the few items they have that are organic, they are almost always sold out and not restocked. But something that shouldn't be is that the lines for this Safeway are 9 times out of 10 VERY long. I find myself standing in line for about 8-10 minutes before even getting to my turn to check out. And I've tried shopping at different times of day. The story is usually the same. That's frustrating. read more

This review is only based off of the Starbucks in this store! Otherwise, I love this store compared to the QFC down the street, a much bigger store with more options. I've been coming here for over 2 years to get coffee a few times a week. The girls who work this starbucks need to quit gossiping! Every single time I come here they are talking about their private lives or their co workers. One time a co worker stepped away and the 2 other baristas started talking about how sad the felt for her "pathetic life" and I finally spoke up and said "That's a little harsh don't you think?" and they both stopped and acted surprised I could hear them as I'm standing there waiting for my order. I believe the manager here is the only nice one I've met who is professional. I gave this safeway four stars because, the set up or layout is pretty intuitive, to where things are vs. where they should be. The produce men were so helpful and friendly! Even did a personal onion chop for me when o was looking for chopped white and they only had the purple onions prechopped! My only annoyance is the checkouts. Sometimes the lines are incredibly long and slow moving; while at least one of the selfcheckouts seems to always be down. I just had to review after the exemplary customer service. I have been here a few times over the last few years because it is the closest market to my work and this is the place we go when we have a BBQ, and today was probably the last. It just seems to be going down hill. They have most basic things you need, but the selection is definitely limited. Here is the problem I have - there were only two full size baskets on the north entrance, the first basket I went to grab was just disgustingly filthy - I don't think it had ever been cleaned. The other basket was just as bad. Ridiculous. No wonder the clean wipe container was empty at that entrance. I went to the south entrance to find a cleaner basket and there was a young female employee putting baskets away - I told her, hey, the baskets at the other end are disgusting and filthy - her answer was, yea, they're all pretty much like that - and then she walked off. Really? The first basket I found at the south entrance had grime all over it, and rotten apple slices in the drink holder. The next two weren't much better, but I finally found one I felt brave enough to use. I looked for a manager as I did my shopping, but couldnt find one. A little bit on the dingy side, this Safeway looks like it could use another refresh. The lighting seems off, and the parking lot seems a bit cramped. Every city seems to have one store of a grocery chain that is, for some reason, a rung below the rest. This is Seattle's sub-par Safeway. (In Maryland, it was the Safeway North Bethesda that continued to sell past-due products--even dairy--despite numerous customer complaints.) OTOH, the 2-3 deli staff do a good job keeping up with a constant push of customers. Do not recommend shopping here as a regular, but dropping in for a sandwich works well. read more

Nevertheless, I wandered the aisles of Safeway, comforted by the controlled environment. Things here are generally clean and the staff are generally friendly. The deli can be hit and miss about getting prompt service, but even if it takes a while for someone to actually acknowledge your presence, they're usually nice when they speak. Over the past few years, their selection of organic foods has increased which makes me very happy. The idea that it's somehow dangerous is laughable to me. It's a grocery store. This Safeway is the best that you can find in White Center. It's large, and has an ample selection of most basic ingredients. It doesn't have the new specialty features of the new QFC and Safeway in Northern West Seattle, but it still gets the job done. You will find plenty of parking, and a friendly staff. read more

This safeway has the biggest selection and cheapest prices. It is in white center/ unincorporated king county so they have plastic bags and dont charge for them. They have the most self check out stands and make frequent announcements about no waiting. It is a popular Safeway, in an unpopular part of town. There are crazy people everywhere and if you shop here you are part of the crazy. It is a free show. Very entertaining. The employees keep it real, so dont expect them to suck your old dick, grandma. Be nice and you will get nice. But if you put your groceries on the conveyor belt and then put your bags last, don't expect them to rebag everything. read more

This is the worst Safeway I have ever been to and they never fail to live up to that title. Been coming here for years now but for some reason the last 5 or so times have been terrible and memorable for the wrong reasons. The one that really got me was when I was sitting there for about 10 minutes trying to buy fair tickets and nobody even attempted to ask me if I needed anything. FINALLY a lady came over to ask and what made me even more mad was that she said she couldn't sell them to me unless her "supervisor" was there. WHAT??? Since when does me needing fair tickets have to do with your supervisor she had them in her hands why couldn't she just sell them to me. Ended up having to pay full price at the fair and I was not happy at all! This location is also very dangerous so avoid going at night or bring someone with you and don't park too deep into the parking lot. Not coming back anytime soon read more

I really want to like this place - really I do! I've spent thousands of dollars here over the years because Safeway does have some good deals and the store is just a mile or so from my home. But it's getting more difficult. Purchased some Halibut today (at a great price), so asked the butchers to take the skin off since i am planning to fry the fish. Both butchers on duty told me they didn't know how. They told me nobody has shown them how to do it. Our family has been shopping here - very frequently - for 6+ years. I give it 2 1/2 stars. There are certain items I have to go to QFC for, certainly not because QFC is less expensive. Fred M beats both these on value. Because of our frequent use we know which cashiers to go to & the ones to avoid. I rely on gas points. My gripe - the poor attention span of some employees who seem to spend all his time chatty, joking with customers when he should pay attention to his job. Employees that park close to the entrance earn scorn. I look for Don or Pat, they get the job done well & with a smile. There are some really great bagger guys. It's probably a stress job & boring. The service in deli area is always nice if I'm nice to them. Not super impressed with Mr. Manager, maybe he doesn't like his job, try a greeting occasionally. I rarely go into this store anymore. We have lived in Arbor Heights for 18 years and this store has gotten progressively worse in the past 5 years. Understaffed - ALWAYS. I am thinking that the staff can't keep up with the business - they try their best but with the lack of cashiers and management, QFC in Westwood Village seems to be the best place if you don't want to wait 15-20 minutes in line. This rating is for the pharmacy alone, Safeway is great. I've gone to this pharmacy off and on for a few years just because it's close. I'd guess 2 out of every 3 trips to the pharmacy counter ended up with a "do you have some shopping to do, your perception is not ready yet" or "we are out of that, we can order it". I started calling before I'd show up to make sure it was ready. I'd show up an hour later, "do you have some shopping to do, your prescription is not ready yet". I'd show up a day later, "that was put back on the shelf because nobody picked it up yesterday, do you have some shopping to do". With so much competition in the neighborhood, I'm surprised they're still in business. read more

I love the close convenience of this store location. It's big and has lots of variety. But every time I shop here there are long checks it lines - 4-5 carts deep, and only 4 lines open.
