Worst Safeway in Oregon. Employees are always irritated. They never call anyone up to utilize the 3's a crowd "guarantee" and worse thing of all is they're CONSTANTLY out of items. Every trip I make there there's at least 1 or 2 items we need that they're out of. I don't know why I keep going back. Wait, yes I do! It's closer than Fred Meyer. But I'm over it. Im sorry safeway, i was loyal for soooooo long. But that last rotisserie chicken i bought was NOT COOKED. I know that you would refund me, or swap my item out. But i am a busy person, and cant be bothered to keep returning things. Its as simple as this, i should not have gotten this sub par product to begin with. Tried to cash a scratch ticket (won $2) and cashier DEBBIE asked for my ID I didn't have it and they said they couldn't cash it, I said ok no big deal, but then the lady next to me was buying beer and the cashiers SKYLER and DEBBIE jokingly asked for her ID then said just kidding and laughed and she said it's expired and they STILL SOLD HER BEER WITHOUT SHOWING ID BUT THEY REFUSED TO CASH MY $2 SCRATCH TICKET BECAUSE I HAD NO ID!!!?? read more

So I teetered on one star or two star which...is not good. I went with one star. The tl;dr of this is: pretty bad service, pretty bad quality, high prices. Go to Fred Meyer if you can even though it's busy. Really what this place should turn into is either an organic place with high quality food to justify the prices (think New Seasons or Whole Foods) or some super low-cost place like a WinCo or something. Pros: - On my side of Wilsonville, so it's convenient. I walk here every few days so I feel less guilty about the awful foods I sometimes put into my body. The walk makes me feel like "good job, Garrett. You've earned these cookies". - They have a couple of items I can't get at Fred Meyer. - I've yet to have an interaction, but being a creepy eavesdropper a few of the interactions I've heard with the meat/seafood folks seem to have been friendly for others. Literally the only pros. And they are minor. Now... Cons: - Price. Its so expensive at Safeway. I understand grocery margins are low. But still...Safeway is similar-ish in corporation size to Fred Meyer and yet they don't even come close to the price savings. - Quality. Ok, I can deal with high prices for quality. But when your produce is $.50-$1.00 per pound more than your competition I should be able to not objectively have worse produce, meat, etc. And yet, here I go into Safeway and get sub-par produce at a higher price. I've had meat that was barely unexpired (lasted 2 days before smelling old), and luckily produce I can see/feel and can say its mostly low quality produce. I used to live near the Bridgeport area and had a Safeway up there with great produce, so I had super high hopes for this place. Welp, those were dashed. - Variety. For produce specifically, there's no huge variety imo. At least not with organics. And again, the quality isn't great. - Service. Look...If there's one thing people who know me in real life know its that I don't like talking to new people. So the checkout line is normally awful because I have to talk, but tolerable if the person is nice, friendly and doesn't chit-chat too much. My first time at Safeway, when it just opened, the cashier complained about the new store. Next time, the guy (different person) asked how my day was, I said fine, asked him and he just sighed loudly and said "working...". Yeah dude, you are. And I'm sure its not the most fun job in the world. Don't make me feel like a jerk for asking you. Another time I was buying random food and the cashier said she hated an item I was buying and the only good use for it was in the trash. Now, I'm not the friendliest of people all the time, but even I know not to insult what your customer's are buying. I forgot her name, but every time I see her I avoid her. So I basically can only go to about 2 cashiers. I've had one who was actually legitimately nice, quick, etc. And another who fit my style of just not saying a word to me, which I'm fine with. Bottom line: if you don't have self-checkout (which I get, robots shouldn't replace everyone) at least have people who aren't jerks. Went in at 9pm. Gentleman was still behind the deli counter. I asked for a pound of salami but could not get it because all slicers were just bleached. In my opinion if he would have took the time to take care of the my request that wouldve been taking care of your customers. To top it off the cashier up front asked me if I found everything I needed. I said no, he asked what I was looking for. I told him my experience at the deli department. The cashier apologized and said we get a lot of complaints about that department. This does not suprise me. Customer service a rarity today. read more

I work in the area so I was happy to see another option for grocery shopping on my lunch hour, since Fred Meyer is so busy now. I have gone to this Safeway 4 times now and every time, the cashiers have been rude and/or snotty. Today I went for the last time. I brought my own reusable bag in with me. The bag boy AND cashier put my items in plastic bags and then into my bag I brought. Seriously??? So I pulled everything out of the plastic bag and put it into my bag. Neither said one word to me like sorry or let me do that. They just stood there watching me. Ridiculous. All the employees are void of service skills and personality. Not to mention their lines have exhaustively long waits, when there is barely anyone in them! I will never return to this store again!!
