I had the misfortune to lock my keys in my car on Saturday September 5th in Safeway's parking lot. My phone was in the car ,I had no idea what to do. I then saw Grace collecting carts ( probably one of her many jobs there) she very kindly let me use her phone to call my family and to call my auto insurance so they could send someone. This store is awesome. Like most Safeway stores that you'll find, it has good deals and it's pretty big. Their produce and fresh meats and dairy were great quality. There's a Starbucks inside and they have a Redbox, too. In addition to typical Safeway items, they had snow gear there like snow boots and shovels. I wish I had realized they were there before going into town and spending a lot more there. They had kids and adults, all good quality, snow boots. You'll need them out here during the winter. The downer was that many timeshare people shop here and will deplete the supply of some items. Like they ran out of hot dog buns. I didn't believe my dtr at first til I looked for myself. Also ran out of Nacho Doritos (one of my favs). Yes this could happen at other Safeways but esp this one. Still a great place to shop. And the staff was very friendly and helpful. read more

Stopped into Safeway at about 2 am a few weeks back. The wife and I were on our honeymoon, and were on our way from the Reno Airport to South Lake Tahoe. Thankfully, this store was still open, and we stopped in to pick up some snacks and beer after a LONG day of traveling. Even at 2am, friendly employees were asking if we needed help finding anything. Store was clean, well-stocked, and easy to find everything we wanted. We picked up a bunch of snacks, some stuff for breakfast, and we were super thrilled to find out we could still buy booze. The guy stocking the shelves replied "Dude, this is Nevada. 24 hour beer sales." Score! Love this store, great location, great employees, fully stocked, clean, and great prices. If i could give this store "0" I would! This is the WORST Safeway I have ever shopped at! I talked to the manager about some of the things I felt the store should carry and lack in and he could of cared less! Don't ever accidentally forget your cell phone at this store at checkout counter! My husband realized 2 hrs after we left the store it was lost and we tracked it to the store and we were camping from Oregon and he ran back up to get it and they ALL claimed there was no lost cell phone at the store! No one could help him! By then we figured someone had found it and stole it so we gave up all hope! TWO hrs later we get a phone call from a checker saying husbands phone was at check stand. For awhile someone HAD turned off the phone (why would they do that????) but this checker claims a "ping ping' noise was coming from it with my cell phone number flashing stating it was a LOST PHONE! Fortunately we got it back but boy did that add STRESS to our camping trip! NEVER shop at this store people. Make the drive down to South Lake Safeway-its nicer all the way around and has everything we needed this store did not and the people working there were MUCH nicer! read more

This has been my local neighborhood grocery store for 10 years now! They have recently remodeled the entire store and it is looking better than ever. Update the pharmacy has been bad for a few years now. I always called my prescriptions in early and give them extra time. However they were NEVER ready and I was always told to come back hours later. I guess the store is ok but I stopped shopping there because of the pharmacy. read more

I just moved to Zephyr Cove in January. I live a few blocks from this store. They are incredibly friendly and helpful. You seriously can't pass an employee in this store and not get asked if you are finding everything you need. What a refreshing display of human kindness! The only thing that is a downside is that you really have to pay attention to the dates on all of their merchandise (including cans and jars). I have bought a few expired items. Rude customer service! Cashier wouldn't make eye contact with any of us. Seemed like he was disgusted to serve us. I got cash back and he didn't count the money and basically tossed it at me and dropped it like he didn't want to touch my hand. My family and I felt very discriminated. We thought maybe he was having a bad day so we went the following day again for some frozen fries and tried a different cashier and after he checked us out we saw that the bag was open on one side and was spilling out. We asked if we could switch out the product and he said that there shouldn't be anything wrong with it and it's fine that way but he "guesses we can" super rude. Over a 4$ bag of frozen potatoes. There is a sign outside the entrance that says you must wear a mask to shop HOWEVER that's more for show than an actual practice. I saw several stockers wearing their masks below the nose. Two patrons were walking around without masks at all. A lady was with her teenager inside walking her dog, saying hi to employees (obviously a repeat customer). Be prepared to bring your own hand wipes or sanitizer because the only ones provided are by the casino slots behind the self check out. read more

Wife went in store for Western Union, was told rudely by employee that it was closed and pointed to a sign that was covered by a towel. Customer service could of been much better. I guess BLM doesn't apply at this particular Safeway! read more

I have been to this Safeway store twice in the last week. The first time an employee in the produce department and a cashier were wearing their masks below their noses which essentially does not afford any protection from the transmission of the virus. I reported this to the manager. When I returned two days later the same two people were still wearing their masks below their noses, which tells me that Safeway has little or no regard for the health of their employees or their customers in the midst of a deadly pandemic. read more

The upside: Less crowded than the Safeway in South Lake Tahoe. Neither up nor down: Its location, though less conveniently located to the slopes, is more quickly accessible on high traffic days by automobile from Heavenly Ski Area eastwards than the South Lake Tahoe Safeway. The downside: Dingy, and the selection of goods is not great, especially the produce section. read more

Their shelves are always full. They have sales on certain items that they don't offer back home. I always leave satisfied. Don't come in here with a big coat on even though it's like 30 degrees outside. Also don't walk back and forth through each aisle if you're looking for something. I suggest asking for help when you're looking for something. Good luck finding an employee here. Also don't put your hands in your pockets cuz you're cold. Don't say I didn't warn you. If you're curious to know what would happen if you did all of the above, do it and see what happens. You won't like it. Who the hell steals from Safeway? They have like 80 billion cameras all over the store. They've got every inch of the whole store covered! I suggest they watch the videos and maybe they'll learn something. Jenny in the floral department did all the flowers for our wedding this past Saturday, August 21st, 2010. She made the most beautiful bouquets using Hydrangea which is hard because they die easily. The boutineers were very pretty as well. She was helpful with suggestions and ideas that I hadn't thought of. I had already purchased many vases for our centerpieces and I wanted to do our own flowers for the reception. Jenny ordered a special bulk order of flowers and greenery so we could make our own. It was a great experience and much cheaper than going with a typical florist. read more

Price-wise, it's a Safeway. You're going to find better deals at Wal-Mart and Costco in Carson City. However... First their staff is some of the nicest, friendliest folks around. They're always smiles and more than willing to help out with whatever craving or item you're going to need... They stock the occasional critical item you're going to need up in Tahoe like firewood, windshield wash, ice melt and alcohol... Extra amenities include, because they're in NV, you can have the option to partake in the slot machines in the front. They also have your de facto Starbucks plus an in house Wells Fargo (ATM & tellers)... Open 24 hours, with plenty of parking. No, they're not the best on prices, however they do make up with the service, hours and location. read more

After check-out I looked at my bill I noticed it was substantially more than what I expected. They over-charged for 4 Haagen Dazs that were on a digital coupon which I loaded into My List on the App was supposed to be 4 for $9.99 and grapes on sale for $5.99 for 2 lbs. Instead I got charged full price for these sale/coupon items. After the cashier and a second person tried to help, finally the manager came to see what happened. First the manager Lori went to the grapes and said that the sign was wrong and pointed to a 1 lb box of grapes. I said those were not 2 lbs like the sign and what I bought. Next, the overcharged Haagan Dazs issue, Lori the manager said that this was not the correct size of Haagan Dazs and said it was 2 quart sizes only. First, right next to the Haagen Dazs that I selected (x4) was a SIGN with the digital coupon $2.50 each, regular price %5.49 ea. Secondly, do you know how ludicrous 2 quarts size x 4 would be!!!! The manager Lori should have made the situation right but instead kept on trying to find reasons why this was wrong. The thing is, I came in late at night to avoid being in a supermarket during Covid times so I could get in and out quick but instead I spent an extra 15 minutes inside a store arguing with the manager over her own store's inadequate pricing policy and computer pricing system. I finally had enough and asked for a refund because I had wasted enough of my time. After refunding me for the overcharged items, there was no apology. The manager Lori should be ashamed of how she handled the situation. The manager has the power to make things right. Instead, this was a bad experience. Stay away from this Safeway if you like to be charged the correct amount. Update: I got home and double checked my bill. I was also overcharged on grapes. The sign next to the grapes listed a sale for $4.99 and I was charged $7.99. It is not worth my effort, time and gas to get a refund. I normally shop here and now I realize I have likely been overcharged many times in the past! read more

Been coming here for years and its gotten better but it's still my least favorite grocery store in town. It is a smaller store so they don't have all the things a larger one would, especially organic and vegetarian friendly stuff... the stock gets moved around and/or randomly discontinued a lot, things in odd places, namely the organic and veggie friendly stuff. Things in the freezer that should be in the meat section, etc... the staff is mostly great, lots of really nice people and that's really this store's saving grace. If you can't go to the other Safeway or Raley's you can probably get what you need here, maybe... if you aren't Vegan or Vegetarian that is. read more

This has got to be the worst managed store in the area, with checkout-lines as long as the Gettysburg address, checkers that move as slow as a snails pace, subpar customer service...and forget going in in the late hours or early morning between midnight and 7 AM where you have to run around playing Where's Waldo just to find a checker to ring up your items, standing around with your thumb up your a** for 20+ minutes while you wait around for the silently rude checker to finally show up so you can purchase your items and leave...I loathe going into this store so much that I go 20 minutes out of my way just to shop somewhere else...stay away from this Safeway like the plague! My experience with this store is that I used to work there, 14 years ago as well as having shopped here over the same time, it has gone downhill drastically over the years...they should really add a self-checkout and save many people the headache read more

I have shopped in this store for over 30 years and Unfortunately this morning my shopping experience dropped to an all time low. First of all, only one checker on the floor-yes this Safeway has self checkout stands but no body uses them. Eventually another checker came on the floor but when I asked for paper bags since I had only brought 2 canvas bags. I got an extremely dirty look from the checker and then he proceeded to fill the bags so they were so heavy it was almost impossible to lift. Trust me- I don't look like I'm professional weight lifter. I had to remove items from the bags to lift them. Not to mention my carefully selected tomatoes were packed and smashed under heavier items. The checker was of an age that I assume he was not a brand new checker and he should have known better. Maybe he was having a bad day, but after spending several hundreds of dollars, I expect a "thank you" , bags packed so that a regular person could lift, and unsmashed tomatoes. BTW... hey Zephyr Cove Safeway could you turn down the A/C it is always freezing in this store! read more

Like many others - I have loved this Safeway. But they just don't have enough employees working to accommodate the number of people shopping anymore. There are many great employees - Candace, Marcia, Vera, Linda (just to name a few) - but they can't do it all. Albertsons - don't let this store fall by the way-side!!! There is a Claw machine in South entry that costs a $1 to play. The machine is a SCAM, the claw has no tension spring, so could not pick up something a 10th the size and weight. Why would Safeway let them put a machine in their lobby that is a scam. Better just to drop your money on the floor.. read more

Do not go to the deli for a sandwich. It took nearly an hour to get 6 sandwiches for our group. They ran out of tomatoes and lettuce. (Seriously? In a grocery store?) Shaun, the person helping us, was not friendly and was very unmotivated. Next time, we'll just go to Subway. Very poor customer service from the deli. This store had a terrible deli department. We ordered four sandwiches and the person helping us had not been properly trained. She sliced bread uneven with top slice being at least 3/4 of the roll, she barely put meat on it and I had to ask for more meat. She also had problems putting mustard and mayonnaise on it. She was about to close the sandwich when my husband asked her if she was going to put lettuce, etc., on it. And then came the the sandwich wrapping! What a challenge! Very disappointing. I accidentally donated $5 to charity when I was checking out. The male cashier told me it couldn't be reversed and I was the 2nd person to do that. What if I had donated $50? $5 was no big deal, but surely it can be reversed. I didn't want to deal with it anymore as there was a long line behind me. And please train your cashiers to at least say hello and make eye contact. He just started ringing up my stuff without any sort of greeting. read more
