    Highlights: - Can run into a long wait: call ahead! - Not terribly easy to access (parking) and likely you won't be dining in - Come for the biryani rather than the curry Saffron spice is really one of those places where you need to order the right thing. Their curries have been... pretty passable, but their biryani (and maybe it's specifically the lamb biryani) continues to deliver time and time again. They're not stingy with the amount of meat that's included and it is well balanced by the flavorful rice that envelops it. Little bits of fried onions/shallots (sorry it's been a while and I can't recall but more likely shallots if my memory serves) makes the biryani really pop! Its location at the intersection of Holgate and Rainier makes it very visible, but it's really not super accessible. I wouldn't really want to dine in here as much as leave my car with blinkers on to quickly pick something up. Speaking of, make sure you order ahead! The few times we've come to pick up, we actually found that you'll want to get there right at their estimate or a little later (contrasted with most other places where they give you the 95-99% estimate, Saffron Spice has struck me as particularly optimistic). This may be due to the large number of DoorDash/UberEats orders they get that make it difficult to accurately estimate.

    3 5 star place! Interesting flavors here. Sort of indian with chinese fusion. They have a food truck but this is their brick and mortar location in an awkward spot just off of Rainier. I Haven't loved everything i have tried here but they do have some stand out foods i really like! Garlic naan: each are made to order and is amazing! Perfect slight char and chewy inside! Always get this! Gobi manchurian: fried cauliflower in a "general tso's" like sauce. If you are a fan of general tso's chicken but want veg version this is it! Saag paneer: one of my go to dishes. Version here is okay. A bit watery Mix veg patties: sort of a veg fried patty. A bit too thick perhaps and wish it was more crispy. Egg drop soup with veg: sort of a sweet and sour soup flavor and Not an egg drop soup flavor. Not sure it works for me. I keep coming back for the nice freshly made naan and that tasty cauliflower appetizer gobi manchurian!

    Best samosas hands down. Delicious lamb biryani and fish curry too. This hidden gem, tucked away just off of Rainier, is a wonderful addition to the neighborhood. One note of additional appreciation, last time I visited I ordered online and didn't see that the mango lassi was already in the bag. I assumed it was forgotten and when I asked about it the owner gave me two (for a total of three) just because. When I got home I felt bad that it was already in the bag and I didn't think to look! I appreciated his generosity and willingness to trust me (even though it was already packed). With such great food and service I will definitely go back.

    Saffron Spice catered an event I went to, and it was a huge hit! Everyone was raving about the food, so it made for a nice time. Located off of Rainier Avenue, the event was next to the restaurant, so it was nice to be able to try a local restaurant in the area. Saffron Spice brought yogurt chicken breast, samosas, pakora, pita and chutneys. They also had housemade lemonade for drinks. It was a good spread. I liked all of the food, but was impressed by how tender and flavorful yet light the cubes of chicken breast were. Sometimes chicken breast can taste dry, but it was not the case here. It was perfectly cooked and loved the yogurt sauce on it. Pita was very soft, and liked trying the different chutneys to go with. Pakora was solid, with a nice fry from the breading. But my favorite were the samosas! I have to admit, I am not huge on samosas, but they were definitely the best I've had. It was heavily stuffed with potatoes and peas and the batter was light. Get the samosas! Glad to have tried Saffron Spice during this event, as I don't often eat out on Rainier Ave. But it makes me think twice, as I would happily visit Saffron Spice for a dine-in experience, which can only go up from here.

    I really enjoyed these Goan dishes from Saffron Spice in Beacon Hill: - Goan fish curry, 5/5: It has tender pieces of fish swimming in a spicy coconutty curry. It tasted exactly like how I experienced it on a beach in Goa years ago. Go try this dish without getting on a plane! - Chicken peri peri, 4/5: Favorful chicken tenders accompanied perfectly with fries and a side salad. - Goan bread pudding, 5/5: This is the star of the show. Buttery dense bread soaked in rich eggy custard and baked, then covered in a generous layer of banana sauce studded with banana slices. I just can't go back to regular bread pudding after this. Must try item! Goan food has elements of Indian and Portuguese. Then when brought to the US, Saffron Spice might have incorporated other local elements as well. And it all results in such a delicious meal!

    These amazing culinary artisans have so much love for their ancestral cuisine and for their Seattle community, and you can taste that love in every bite. They use the freshest produce and high quality ingredients, and offer a unique flavor that is hard to find. I was over the moon to find out there is a location near me on Rainier, after years of enjoying them as one of my favorite lunch spots at Pike Place Market, when I used to work there. They are always welcoming and are so generous. We are all so fortunate to have them taking care of us by feeding our bodies and healing our spirits with their gift of wonderful, comforting, joy-inspiring food.

A truly unparalleled opportunity to do right by the customer. Major applause to you (I hope this doesn't get you fired, and instead leads to increased business). These are the moments that you do not forget about as an enthusiast and avid promoter of the Seattle restaurant scene. I was blown away by the food as well. My experience with tandoori chicken in the past was that it can be dry and not pack the seasoning punch that you would expect from such a vibrant color. But this was quite the opposite, tender and juicy chicken that was exploding with flavor. The curries were also rich and deep in taste, with much more chicken than you get at many other establishments these days. The chicken wasn't that tender either. The raita was overpowered with chat masala. Peri Peri fries were ok, the masala was different than what I have eaten before but the overall fries could have been better. Overall, the food is decent but each dish seemed to be missing something to make it really shine.
