I'm so happy to see something great in this space. The service is warm and welcoming, and the food was delicious. We had Dahi Puri (so wonderful to get Puri!!!), Butter Naan, and Chicken Tikka Masala. The chicken was fresh and tender - seems like everywhere else I've had stewed dishes with chicken, the chicken was long overcooked and dry. Not the case here at all. I can't wait to explore more dishes on my next visits (but puri will always be in my order in-person). I will happily drive past 2+ competitors to eat here. read more

Always such good food! I've only ever gotten takeaway from here, but it's always hot, quick, and so tasty! Every employee I've met has also been very kind and welcoming. It's definitely a favorite place to come when I need comfort food. I do want to eat in as well one time because I love how their booths look. Ordered the chicken tikka masala and paratha for delivery for the first time! The chicken tikka was a little too sweet, and the gravy was lacking some overall flavor/spices that I could not pinpoint. The paratha was also a bit hard/dry most likely due to the delivery time. I will definitely keep these in mind when ordering and give this place another try in-person! read more

The food is delicious and service excellent. Went for our second time and had butter chicken, palak paneer and chicken with green herbs. Presentation looked good on herb chicken so we dove into it immediately. Chicken tender and very tasty. Also had plain and garlic and plane naan - yum. Rather happy we have an unique Indian option nearby in the lifelong hood. Let me try to breakdown a few dishes I've tried... Chicken curry - quite flavorful, spice action never toned down; I usually request less salt Chicken Fry AND Goat Fry Biryani - unique ensemble!! I like how the protein/spices are separate from rice. This way each bite is a nice surprise (zero uniformity!) . Where's the fun in overly stirred dishes. Also, the magical biryani takes me back about 25 yrs to flavors found next to Gwood library at Kabob House. In that realm biryani was available only Fri/Sat and folks lined up! Gobi Manchurian - perfect appetizer to prepare palette for incoming goodness Channa Masala with their delicate garlic naan - it's similar to having channa/butura. I've been waiting for a good Indian takeout spot to open in Ballard, and we finally have one! We got the butter chicken, chicken vindaloo, and samosas, and we loved it! The butter chicken was a little sweeter than I typically like, but it was still really flavorful. My partner liked the tang in the vindaloo, and the samosas had a little spice in them! I did think the chicken in the butter chicken was a little dry, but they also sell just the sauce as a side which is perfect since I don't really love chicken breast anyway and really get butter chicken for the sauce. They also sell just tikka masala sauce as well! This is def gonna be our go to takeout spot! Although I will note that their pickup estimates aren't accurate, so I'd potentially wait until you get a text that your order is ready. It said ours would be ready at 6:40pm and when we got there, they said it'd be another 25-30 mins. We finally got the text at 7:15. Luckily we live close by and could go home quickly, but just a heads up if you're not close! read more

Service was good, the staff was very friendly and attentive. The food was alright. I've never had dahi puri before, but this was inedible to me. The whole inside was just yogurt and was very sweet. That may just be a personal preference though since I'm not actually sure what it's supposed to be like! The chicken tikka masala was also a tad sweet for my liking, the cucumber raita helped balance it out though. The garlic naan was very good! Would I come again or recommend to someone else? Very flavorful chicken dum biriyani and fish fry!! Not overly spicy, right on point for a fulfilling meal!

I really like this place because they also offer servings of just the butter or tikka masala sauce for $5, which is awesome because I somehow always run out of sauce when I have naan and rice. The curries were flavorful, meats were not dry, and the rice and naan were fluffy. Not much more I could ask for. read more

I don't know much about Indian food, but really enjoyed this place. This review is for takeout. We ordered: Butter Chicken, Palak Paneer, Cucumber Raita, Chicken Tikka, Garlic Chive Naan and Mango Lassi. My partner said the "fine" but I thought it was very good. I was surprised the Cucumber Raita was so liquidy, but it had good flavor and helped offset spice levels. We both loved everything else. All of the food was packed well, the pickup estimated time was right on schedule, and the staff at the front desk was so warm and inviting. Highly anticipated (by me!) new restaurant in the neighborhood. We typically order a vegetarian appetizer, two veg curries, and naan to share. On our first visit we tried manchurian cauliflower, malai kofta, and chickpea masala. Each was unique and flavorful. The 4 stars spicy was SPICY. They tried to warn us but we did not listen. TLDR: overall not bad but some of the spices were off. Would want to try Magic Masala again tho. We ordered takeout and got the following: Veg Pakora: pretty damn good with a small spicy kick with some small bits of potato. No pictures tho. Chana Masala: I thought it was pretty good but wife felt the spices were not in proportion. Coconut Chicken Curry: TBH not sure we really got this because it tasted just like the Chana Masala sauce but with chicken instead of chickpea. Butter Chicken: just a bit overly sweet sauce that overpowered everything else. Wife did not like. Disappointing Burnt Garlic Chicken Fried Rice: I liked this. Like the name implies it has garlic that is browned and then stir fried with basmati rice. I give it a fuyyyyyoooh (for the Uncle Roger fans). read more

Magic Masala was one of the more delicious Indian food places I've ever been to! It seems a little bit of a hole in the wall, but they keep it nice and clean inside. The hostess/server lady was really welcoming. The food ended up being perfect proportions. You could just tell they perfected the recipes. We ordered the Chicken Tikka and Garlic Naan. It took one hour and 40 mins to get an order delivered that was stone cold once delivered. I'm not doing that again. It was an $80 order and the taste was just ok. Perhaps because it had been sitting out for so long, not sure. However, if you look at 1 star reviews here and on Google you will see a clear theme. Don't order delivery from this place. And please, Magic Masala do not respond to this review with some vacuous reply similar to what you have left with other 1 star reviews. It a waste of time. read more

My husband and I have tried Magic Masala now twice, one as take-away and also at the restaurant. Overall, the food is very good. We really appreciate that there is a good variety of vegetarian options. The flavors, the spices, and sauces are full-bodied and tasty. We've had the aloo gobi, garlic naan, veggie samosas, and the veggie korma. The food arrived quickly, and the service at the restaurant is attentive. The waiters both time were friendly and read back the orders to be sure they had it correct, which I appreciated. The location is fantastic too, and there was no wait to be seated. I do have a few small reservations. The menu is varied, with vegetarian options in their own sections, but it would be nice for items to be marked with spice levels. I enjoyed the aloo gobi, but even at its lowest level, it was too spicy for me. It wasn't clear if there were any vegan options? I was also surprised that there was no spinach naan. The garlic one was delicious, but sometimes you want a basic spinach version too. Finally, I ordered a cup of chai, which was tasty and unsweetened, which was nice so as to allow people the option of sweetening it as they like. But be aware that you get only a small cup (maybe 6-8 ounces?) and it's $3 and you get charged for refills. Other restaurants don't charge for refills on chai. We will continue to try other options at MM, but I'll skip the chai next time. read more

We came with three friends and ordered the Dahi Puri, Mixed Veg Pakoda, the Baby Corn Manchurian, a Chickoo shake, mango lassi, buttermilk, two chais, the Chicken  65, Chicken Korma, Shahi Tukda, Rasmalai, and the Palak Paneer. Whoa! Loved the food. Waiter warned us of the spiciness of two out of the three things we ordered, so we knew we'd come to the right place. Chicken Vindaloo with medium spice was enough for me.
