    Bread Pudding with Caramel Sauce
    Lauren B.

I stopped into Sage & Salt for the last day of Litchfield Restaurant Week. I ordered the lemon sage spritzer, poutine, grilled beet salad, and the bread pudding with caramel sauce. The service was a bit slow. However, a member of the waitstaff told the table behind us that the kitchen was backed up. Although our waitress never told us that, I appreciated the transparency. Initially, I was taken aback by the deconstructed poutine, but the flavor was great. The fried cheese curds were a fun twist, and the gravy was very savory. The fries were shoestring fries, so the gravy being directly added to the fries would have made them soggy, so I totally understand why the gravy was on the side. The beet salad was tasty, and the apple cider vinegar had a great acidity to it. My boyfriend got the brussel sprouts as an appetizer, which were amazing! I think next time, I would order the brussel sprouts to add to the grilled beet salad as an extra fun element! I really enjoyed the bread pudding with caramel sauce for dessert. I was stuffed, so I had to take it to go, but it was just as delicious the next day. The restaurant reopened recently and still has a few kinks to work out, such as the slow service. However, the food was good, I loved the decor and color scheme, and the music was at the perfect volume for wanting to chat with your partner or friends. I think once they get more into the swing of things, this will be a great spot in Litchfield!

    French Onion Soup

We went for an early winter Sunday dinner at Sage&Salt in Litchfield Ct and came away totally blown away! From Sue, our perfect server and hostess, who sat us by the fireplace, which someone promptly turned on to warm our backs, to the pub atmosphere everything was great. AND THEN THE FOOD STARTED COMING! WOW! We had two house special cocktails along with two of the best appetizers either of us have ever eaten (sushi grade tuna and sautéed Brussel sprouts.) and big portions. On to awesome onion soup! Then the entrees- Atlantic cod fish and chips and shrimp scampi. Awesome and big portions we took enough for another dinner for both of us! Did I mention the great prices? Well, they were. Great ambiance, great food, great drinks and best of all - fantastic service, thanks Sue. We will be back!

Sage and Salt is the new incarnation of the Saltwater Grille, and the revamping seems to have been for the best. I remember having a burger last year at the Saltwater Grille - it was sad and tough. I had one at new Sage and Salt - it was hot, juicy, and well seasoned. Absolutely delicious. The appetizers of poutine and a giant pretzel were also cheesey and maybe a little salty (but isnt that expected?). New life is in the building very I. Litchfield!

Went for Mother's Day brunch. Despite the hefty price tag, the food was of poor quality and there was minimal variety.

The dinner menu was atypical, featuring an eclectic fusion of dishes executed with lots of creative flair. Flavor, quality and freshness of ingredients were top notch. Our starter, Garlic Maple Whiskey Chicken Bites, came accompanied with grilled shishito peppers. Perfect for sharing and so lovely paired with a glass of prosecco. Next, we sampled Bouillabaisse and Miso Roasted Black Cod in dashi broth. Seafood for both mains were super fresh. The Bouillabaisse broth was remarkably flavorful, the hint of saffron ever present but not overwhelming. How nice to have the red pepper rouille and slices of bread (customary in France) served alongside for the authentic experience. Miso Roasted Black Cod was tasty, succulent and fork tender. Beautifully arranged with mushrooms and Brussels sprouts surrounding the fish, plus a delectable piece of polenta cake tucked underneath. Dashi broth was poured onto dish tableside, creating a warm umami rich dish that was not only delicious but also extremely satisfying. On to desserts....The Chocolate Tarte with sea salt, nuts and berry coulis, a picture of understated elegance, was incredibly sublime. The Warm Apple Tartlet à la Mode with vanilla ice cream was good too. Would have preferred a tad less cinnamon though. All things considered, this was an exemplary meal. Wait staff was friendly and helpful. Hope to return again soon.

We started off with warm olive bread with whipped butter (perhaps the best butter we've had) and a chilled melon, mint yogurt shooter amuse bouche. We then moved onto the yellowfin tartare and Arethusa Farm Dairy artisanal cheeses featuring a variety of their delicious cheeses, including their acclaimed Gouda. For our mid course we had the braised duck dumplings, calamari stuffed with squid ink risotto, and sweet corn and ricotta agnolotti. This was our favorite part of the meal with the calamari and agnolotti being standout dishes for us. For entrees we went with the tamarind glazed black cod with black rice and lemongrass sauce and the pork tenderloin. With finished off with the famous Arethusa Farm dairy ice cream (mint, strawberry, and sweet cream chocolate trip) which truly channeled the essence of farm fresh and ended what was a delicious feast of flavors. This is amongst our favorite farm to table restaurants and def would reccomend this for a special occasion

First visit to the O Joe's North location - understanding I/we love the original. It exceeded every possible expectation. Food is terrific - has the same standard as Watertown, but our wings were cooked even better. Fresh, hot, crispy, juicy. Definitely the best Ordinary Joe's wings we've had (and we have a lot of them, often). The food options are clearly rooted in the original concept. However, there are some more/different options here. Everything looked and smelled fantastic. I look forward to investigating further. Our server, Vanessa, earned 25 stars on her own. She was attentive, personable, yet worked quickly and accurately - manning a full bar and dining room simultaneously - while making us feel like we were the only ones in the joint. Manager/(Owner?) Paul was terrific as well. Stepped in to ensure all tables had what they needed, were clean, and everyone happy. It was truly noticeable that customer service is a priority for the team. Building is new/redone/beautiful. Similar, iconic O Joe's feel and decorating - yes, the gridiron is painted on the ceiling. Just a great space. Great vibe. Eat-off-the-floor clean. Simply can't wait to go back. And, again, I am so lucky to have proximity to both locations. **Just one note for families who may go with children or teenage boys (like me)... The service is so great, no one at the table will have an empty glass for long... that's a really positive thing. But, fair warning, soft drink refills are NOT free (nor should they be, frankly). However, with an 18 and 16 yr old in my party...those Cokes accumulate quickly.

Our party of four spent over $800 celebrating my mother's birthday. A few hours after the meal, my brother became seriously ill, and because I had also sampled his chicken dish and later experienced nausea myself, we were concerned the illness may have been related to the meal. When we contacted the restaurant to share our concerns, the conversations with management were disappointing. Joanne spoke separately with several members of our family and asked whether my brother had gone to the hospital, undergone testing, or had proof of illness. When I asked whether the restaurant maintained food safety documentation, I felt the question was viewed as accusatory rather than as part of a reasonable concern following our visit. Overall, the interaction lacked the empathy and reassurance we had hoped for. No refund, credit, or acknowledgment was offered. As longtime customers who have celebrated birthdays, anniversaries, and milestones here over the years, the response was surprising. Beyond the health concern, the overall dining experience felt noticeably less positive than in past visits. The bread exterior was very hard, and we noticed other nearby tables eating only the soft interior. The vegetables served with the scallops were tough, the pasta was dry, and most of the dishes (except for the pea soup) lacked flavor. The deserts were lackluster, though the goat cheese cheesecake was delicious. The cheese board appetizer was presented without explanation of the cheeses or accompaniments. Crumbs were not cleared between courses. While our server was friendly, we were repeatedly asked whether we had finished dessert, which made the evening feel somewhat rushed during a birthday celebration. The server also spent time discussing personal matters during service, which distracted from the dining experience. We had to find someone to get our coats otherwise we would've walked out without them. The ambiance at Community Table remains beautiful, which makes the experience especially unfortunate after so many positive visits over the years. Unfortunately, after this experience, our family will likely celebrate future special occasions at other restaurants in Litchfield County that we feel provide a stronger overall dining experience.
