We really believe West Shore Seafood has taken some big steps upward. This spring and summer we've enjoyed some very tasty foods, dishes prepared and served with a consistency that we felt had been lacking a bit over the last year or two. For us, the "star" dish is shrimp and grits, in large part because these folks know how to prepare cheesy grits. They are cooked just right, not dry, not runny, very flavorful, and supporting a bed of big, yummy fried shrimp with a sprinkling of spinach on top. An excellent dish! But, so are the fish and chips, the French fries (they cook 'em crispy they way we prefer), and ... well, we haven't been disappointed at all. The young servers are friendly, the bar offers up some good, sweet treats, and the seating is under a well-protected tent outdoors and indoors since they are now a year-round operation. We think the prices are fair given the quality of food and the overall dining experience, which we'd label casual, or perhaps informal. The food here has become increasingly subpar unfortunately. It seems there's little care into creating a lovely dish or experience. The lack of seasoning in everything is concerning. Everything is incredibly oily. The clam chowder was congealed, reminiscent of what comes in a can. I can't imagine that's made fresh. The only thing we feel comfortable ordering is the fried foods because those are hard to screw up, but also just too expensive for what you get. read more

A neat venue and nice open air. Had a table of 4, 3 ordered fish sandwiches 1 ordered scallops. Fish sandwiches were a little greasy. Scallops were not only greasy but spoiled. They tasted and smelled like amonia which tells me they were left out all day unrefridgerated. When I said something to them, they didnt take it off the bill even though they were uneaten, but did get a free dessert (big deal!). On the up side the chips were good, friendly staff and service was otherwise good. Moral of the story ... if you want good seafood try elsewhere or head down to the shore. The menu is seafood oriented,bl but with an amazing number of old school favorites like Lobster Rolls and Jerk Chicken. I had a Connecticut Style Lobster Roll (hot with butter) that had a generous amount of lobster and included one of my favorite things..... homemade potato chips that were excellent and freshly made. The wife had a selection of olives as an appetizer. This venue is a happening l experience during the Summer months with an abundance of outdoor seating and some interesting play areas for kids of all ages. Our visit was highlighted by our servers, bartender Bella and waitperson Caitlyn, who helped keep the party going with their upbeat attitudes and attention to customer service. We ordered takeout while passing through the Bantam area visiting family today. We have always enjoyed eating here in the past but today's whole belly fried clams did not taste fresh at $34.00 not what you'd expect to say the least. Since we got it to go we didn't realize that they left out the 2 cups of clam chowder. I'll stick with The City Fish in Wethersfield from now on - less expensive and Fresh seafood imagine that. read more

We heard west shore seafood is now open throughout the winter so we had to test them to see if it was going to be our go to when it gets cold! 10/10 on the salmon filet however I would recommend they don't put the freshly cooked filet on the bed of lettuce that they call Cesar salad, what do I know tho I'm just a cat. The clam chowder bowl was superb even tho I just smelled it and focused on as much salmon as my little belly can hold. This was a 4.5-star affair... I love the new indoor dining space which has a casual elegance to it. The indoor and outdoor bars are nice as well. My friend has been going full-blown amateur chef importing fresh seafood from all over the country. One of his images sent was a Po' Boy sandie and I have not had one in ages. Dad and I shared the SHRIMP Po' Boy. The lightly breaded big plump shrimp were nicely textured with snap. The creamy orange colored sauce was red pepper as I recall and worked splendidly here. I could have used more sauce for sure, but I love a wet sandie or grinder. The bread was nice and not too thick. The homemade looking POTATO CHIPS were also good with a mixture of some softer and some crisper ones. The CHEESY GRITS were overflowing the cup which was enticing in itself. I believe there was parsley on top. Very cheesy taste and a looser style texture. A tasty cheesy delight. The UNSWEETENED PEACH ICED TEA was a miss for me. I tend to be a sweet tea fan or lightly sweet tea fan with peach iced tea being my favorite. I could not save this with simple syrup. The outdoor seating is the best part, honestly. The food is mediocre and so is the service. The drinks were OK. But today was beautiful and West Shore wins on days like today. We ordered clam chowder, a hot lobster roll, a small fish and chips and a grilled cheese for my daughter. For drinks, we had a margarita and key lime martini. The chowder was pretty bad. Absolutely 0 flavor. Tasted like flour thickened broth. I'm not sure there was a clam in it. Slight hint of bacon and a few potatoes. I took about 4 bites and that was enough. The lobster roll was small for the price. My husband said it tasted fine. The amount of meat on it was about equal to 1 tail chopped up. No drawn butter on the side. The fish and chips was a small piece of cod that was actually delicious. Flaky and sweet. Their tartar sauce was pretty good too. Grilled cheese barely had melted cheese. You could still see the layers of cheese. We asked for a side of ranch 5 times. The 6th time - we asked a different server, and she kindly let us know they don't have ranch Will we be back? We've had mixed experiences at West Shore Seafood (WSS) this past season. WSS has quite a few positives: the location is a lovely, cozy-quirky seafood-shack, with picnic tables under a large tent, decorative vines, outside tables and plenty of room for kids to run around. Their staff are always upbeat and friendly. We reliably buy their salads, and the Nicoise and Caesar salads have been excellent. Fish sandwiches, clubs, and tacos have been tasty, but portions and quality seem inconsistent. One evening, the "warm" lobster roll was ice cold, and my partner's ahi tuna taco contained a small, substandard piece of tuna. Another time, Cajun fish was much too salty. They've also implemented changes to their restaurant, including a full-service bar, but we're not convinced they work. Overall, portions are smaller, prices are higher, and stopping the BYOB option for beverages can make for an expensive evening. As a long time customer, I hope they bring back the BYOB option. read more

We have gotten takeout here several times this summer. The food is just mediocre but last night was the worst. Cod smothered in bread crumbs. A tuna sandwich with tuna that was seared on the outside and bright red and chewy on the inside. My suspicion is the tuna was defrosted in the microwave and seared to hide it. I hate leaving bad reviews of any place but this is egregious. I ordered a lobster roll, small lemonade and left 10% tip on a to-go order. $31. The lobster roll was roughly 3 inches long and finished easy in 3 bites. Even if this was an appetizer the size would be unacceptable. Lobster is expensive- I get it. If it's too expensive to serve enough lobster to someone that qualifies as a meal, don't serve it. It didn't even come with chips or fries. A 2 inch plastic cup of coleslaw. The 3 bites I had over my 15 second eating experience were good and that's the only reason I left 1 star. A Connecticut lobster roll is traditionally served on a split hotdog roll. Wow. Deliciousness. I was here a few days ago at the beginning of this week. The sushi grade tuna over seaweed app was delightful. Flavor profile was amazing. Crabcakes were good but not outstanding like the tuna was. I even got my mother to try the tuna which she loved also. Clam strips entree was also very good. Sorry to say the clam chowder (even though made from scratch) was light in flavor (almost none). Kind of thin for new England clam chowder. The shrimp cocktail were also outstanding. Crisp. Fresh. Nice snap when you but into them. Crabcakes were a good size though for the app. Was looking for some lump meat though which wasn't there. Although very good flavor and fresh. Last year, when many restaurants were closed, my husband and I started going to West Shore Seafood for takeout on Saturdays. We always like their food. Currently, their outside tables are available and the ambiance is very enjoyable. There is no table service. You go to the window, place your order and wait approximately 45 minutes for your food to be ready. The wait is worth it because the food is very fresh. This place is not cheap, considering they don't serve you. You are paying for the freshness and quality of what they have to offer. This past Sunday we had dinner here. The wait was about an hour long. They were very busy. The raw oysters were very fresh. The lobster rolls were overflowing with lobster meat. We also ordered a potato salad, which was a special side dish they had on that day, not on their regular menu; it was very tasty. We plan to continue to go there during the summer months. read more

We ordered 2 salmon club sandwiches. They came out very rare and were sent back. We were told new sandwiches will be made. After waiting 20 more minutes, the new sandwiches arrived and now each had the smallest piece of salmon I have ever seen served. They were lost on the buns and a fraction of the size of the first raw filets. Bringing this to the managers attention did nothing for us. She offered to have another piece made (another 20 minutes?) and added to the sandwich which we said wasn't an option. I don't know what to say. We have been coming here on/off since this place opened throughout all the changes over the years. The last few years this place has gone down hill hard!!! Few years back husband got some chowder and it was still ice cold in the very center of container. We finally learned that if we wanted to try the biscuits we couldn't come on Wednesday b/c they are closed M+T so they don't prep the biscuit dough until Wednesday night?? Didn't make sense to me but that's what we were told. Also to mention every time we came on a Wednesday a few other items were not available then either??? Whether from bad timing or being sold out I finally got some and the Brussels which also seem to be difficult to have in stock. So back to the biscuits, ummm no. Just no. Not a speck of lobster in them. I don't think they technically are described as having actual lobster in there. I think the description says lobster infused butter. Yup. That seems like the main ingredient. Very over cooked and extremely full of grease/fat. Or lobster secretions?? Nothing delectable about them. Honestly. I have actually had training In Nashville for baking biscuits and also worked at Red Lobster in my youth. lol. Hell KFC makes a better biscuit!!! Our first time going to West Shore was on Sunday around 12:30. The place was packed but the staff was very efficient and we were served our Lobster Rolls within 20 minutes. They had plenty of seating some under a large tent in the shade & some outside the tent in the sun. The lobster roll was fresh & extremely delicious!! West Shore Seafood is a hidden gem to accomplish these purposes, some place you may never stumble across unless you already know where to look. The seating is outdoor picnic tables (with room in the grass for well behaved dogs to lay and attempt to mooch) and you order from an outdoor counter. It's rather small, and the variety of options is initially surprising. However, everything we sampled was good. Ordered for takeout on a Saturday night. My friend and I wanted to dine there but it was rainy and overcast so we passed on that. After reading a bunch of reviews and having it come highly recommended by our Airbnb host, we decided to place an order for pick-up. We had the fish sandwich and a side of fries. Both sandwiches came with cabbage salad. The cabbage salad wasn't my favorite but that's no fault of theirs. I'm not a fan of cabbage salad af all. The fries were made to perfection! Crispy outside and soft inside. Super fresh and done to order. You could tell they weren't days old fries being served. As for the fish sandwich, you can't go wrong with a sandwich on a brioche bun. If you mess that up, you gotta reevaluate life. The sandwich was also very fresh. My only complaints are that too much chopped red onions were placed on the sandwich and there was no sauce. It seemed that the toasted bun may have had a bit of butter placed on it but other than that, there was nothing. My friend asked for a side of Mayo for me, but they didn't have any. They could do well with a chipotle mayo, tartar sauce or even hollandaise on the burger to add flavor. Outside of that, the burger was decent. For that reason, I give this establishment 3 out of 5 stars. I love that this place is BYOB. I wish we would have gotten some good weather to experience that! Maybe next time! read more

I have a rule, only eat seafood if you can see water from your table! Ok, more of a guideline but it's served me well fir years. However, Yelp reviews of this roadside gem made us ignore the rule and I'm so glad we did. In brief, outdoor dining under a canopy. Excellent chowder and fries. What a treat in the middle of the Litchfield hills where fresh off the boat seafood can be hard to come by! Went on a ladies lunch with my mother and aunt. We had oysters which were deliciously briny and certainly fresh... steamed clams that were a bit salty (in a good way but almost in a bad way) that popped in your mouth with juice, seaweed salad (standard), roasted veggies (fresh and crunchy), French fries (standard.... Get the chipotle sauce to dip.. fifty cents extra), and fish tacos (grilled cod and shrimp)... yum! Delish! Those were delicious (they'd be better if they grilled the taco shell, did I just start something here? I think not but it would add some flavor)... Really disappointed in our 1st visit of the season. It is no longer BYOB and they charged us $22 corkage for the bottle of wine we bought with us. It was the food though that we were very disappointed in, and not sure if they are under new ownership, but a fish and chips dinner for $15 was no bigger than a child's portion, and food took almost an hour to come out! Despite the server telling us it was a 60 minute wait on a Thursday (you have to be kidding me, but that was a good sign that good things come to those that wait) we took a chance & tried their New England Clam Chowder (we got a bowl & shared it for 2 adults) it was flavorful & packed with fresh clam not the canned stuff. Despite being in the middle of July get the chowda you won't regret it! Sitting outside on the picnic tables is a great way to catch up with friends & family minus your iPhones enjoying everyone's company. After waiting over an hour for 3 lobster rolls (Thursday special 3 for $33) we questioned how much longer & it turns out they lost our ticket. Not thrilled with the confusion & I thought this was the end of us finding our newest date night spot, but the lady in the kitchen was extremely apologetic to my husband & made right on the situation, A++ for great customer service! This review is unusually short as we simply stopped by on our way from MA to NY and wanted some fresh seafood for dinner. Located on the shore of Bantam Lake, this casual spot offers outdoor only seating (tented on one side), BYOB, and fresh, sustainable and local (where possible) seafood. It reminds me of Cape Cod back in the day and Hog Island Oyster out in CA. There is an indoor restroom and a small seafood counter where you can grab whatever is fresh "to go". The shop also offers tools, spices and anything else you might need at home for a seafood extravaganza. According to the website "We can source most varieties of fish & seafood on a special order basis, often with as little as 24 hours notice." We grabbed fresh lobster, which they packed in individual paper bags and a bag of ice for the ride home. Service was warm and friendly, and the lobster kickin! read more

My wife and I have purchased fresh seafood from here and they always have a good product. We decided to try the food. We had calamari, clam strip platter, crab cakes, and lobster bisque. I would say we had an overall great experience. All the food was good and hot. It was in the higher side of the price point but, it's Litchfield and you're near bantam lake so what can you expect.
