We worked on childhood experiences that lead to negative ways that I felt about myself, why I made the choices that I did and gave me the ability to forgive and love myself. I really didn't like myself at all and now I can truly say that I love myself. It's amazing. It does take time and some hard work but it's so worth it. I am so grateful for all that Joanna gave me. And although I've "graduated" from therapy, I know I'll meet with Joanna again! I'm strong now but I'm incredibly self aware and I know that if life takes a curve Joanna will be there to help me continue to live my happy life!

I had a pretty negative experience with therapists in my teens and was not eager to try again. However, I felt at ease with Joanna almost immediately. She is warm, direct and very empathetic and non-judgmental. I feel safe to explore whatever is going on with me. She very skillfully guides me to deeper places within myself, and to my own inner strength and resources. It is now very rare for me to get depressed, and if I feel anxious I use one of the many tools I've gotten from Joanna, and it doesn't last long.

In fact, I am not currently taking any medications at all and came to the appointment hoping for an open discussion about my symptoms and the most appropriate next steps. Instead of listening carefully to my concerns, this provider appeared to make assumptions about my motives and implied that I was seeking medication without evidence to support that conclusion. Those assumptions overshadowed the purpose of the visit and prevented a meaningful discussion of my symptoms. The conversation also shifted into Mr.Abrokwa's personal opinions on topics unrelated to my care, which took valuable time away from addressing the reason I had scheduled the appointment. As a patient, I expected an objective, patient-centered evaluation based on current clinical standards, not unrelated personal viewpoints. Seeking help for mental health concerns can be incredibly difficult, especially for someone who rarely asks for assistance. It took a great deal for me to schedule this appointment, and I left feeling discouraged rather than supported. I hope this feedback encourages greater attention to listening without preconceived judgments and maintaining focus on the patient's concerns.

My daughter has been seeing Andrea at West Meadow Counseling in Ellington for several months. In…read morethat time frame they got a new receptionist. We had appointments on Thursday's at 12:00. The first time there was a "mix-up" we showed up, waited at the window while the receptionist was on the phone. She didn't look up or acknowledge us. We sat down to wait. After about 15 minutes she was off the phone so I got up to pay and see what was happening & was told "oh you don't have an appointment"??? No apology for keeping us waiting and no offer to reschedule. We verified the following week's appointment and left. We were advised she was new & they were working it out. This happened again the following month. Apparently they didn't now who's responsibility it was to put the appointments in. Showed up last week with a real need and was told Andrea was at a 2 day conference. No apology. Receptionist was extremely rude. I asked to leave a message and was told to call. I left a message with a request for a call to explain what we considered an urgent situation. No call was made. When we went to our appointment today Andrea advised us it wasn't her job to be our crutch or my daughters advocate. I was perfectly capable on my own and that wasn't her role. Took twenty minutes of appointment time saying she didn't understand the contention between us & the receptionist who had been rude to us each time our appointment wasn't scheduled properly. Clearly, although we were not the only clients who had complained, it was up to us to "be nice." When my daughter said it wasn't our job to be nice to the receptionist who had not scheduled our appointment properly for THE THIRD TIME!!! We were told that we didn't need to go there, it was our choice. Seriously?? That's how they treat patients in need? If you want a therapist who is genuinely concerned about your child & their well being, this is not the place to go.
