Go literally anywhere else! This place is the Harry Wormwood of dentists. Not a clean office, not honest, and they use scare tactics to try and extract money from you. Set up a regular cleaning and instead got sold to for an hour and a half, charged $150, and the "evaluation" left my gums bleeding. Never even got the cleaning - just a sales pitch, bleeding gums, and a bill. Went to get a second opinion after the appt and got a totally different (and way less severe, teeth and gums are fine) diagnosis. Tried to fight the $150 bill that I received for having to sit through a dishonest sales pitch and never even received a response. This was my first visit to Sage Dental, and unfortunately, my experience was very mixed. Located 1227 Rockbridge Rd in Stone Mountan. When I first arrived, the young lady at the front desk was not very welcoming. As the first-person patients interact with, the front desk sets the tone for the entire visit. A warm greeting and good customer service can make a significant difference, and I hope additional customer service training is considered. On a much more positive note, the dental assistant--a young Jamaican woman whose name I unfortunately cannot remember--was exceptional. She was knowledgeable, thorough, and took the time to explain everything in detail. She made me feel comfortable and was genuinely easy to talk to. She was the highlight of my visit, and I truly appreciate the level of care and professionalism she provided. The dentist was also kind and pleasant. However, the dental hygienist seemed rushed and disorganized, although I understand it may have been a busy day. The most disappointing part of my visit involved the treatment plan. My appointment was confirmed as including a cleaning, yet I never received one. I also have two dental insurance plans, and it appeared that both were not fully verified. When I asked about the cleaning, I was told that even though I had been scheduled for one, I might only receive a partial cleaning and would need to return later to have the rest of my mouth cleaned. I found this explanation difficult to understand. As someone who works in medical billing and coding, this raised serious concerns for me. There was nothing on my X-rays indicating a condition that would justify this approach, so it left me questioning whether the recommendation was medically necessary or financially motivated. Patients work hard for their money and deserve honest, transparent communication about their care and costs. Experiences like this can be especially confusing and concerning for older adults or anyone unfamiliar with dental billing practices. I like the staff here, and I think Dr. Nile is a competent and friendly dentist, but the business model is atypical. Like other reviewers have said, the dentist is not involved in a cleaning, nor are any x-rays taken. In order to get the x-rays and time with the dentist that are ordinarily part of a standard preventative dental exam, two appointments are required. This is a revenue-driven corporate model that costs the customer much more of a time and money commitment. Of course, this two-appointment model could also be driven by staffing shortages. No matter, if you prefer one co-pay per cleaning and preventative exam, you might consider a more traditional dental practice. read more

I have been going to Sage Dental for years. The Farina the dental hygienist is gentle and knowledgeble. I had such a wonderful experience at this dental office and can't recommend them highly enough! The dentist was incredibly professional, knowledgeable, and gentle throughout the entire appointment. They took the time to explain everything clearly, answered all of my questions, and made sure I felt comfortable at every step. It's rare to find someone who combines such expertise with genuine care for their patients. Robert runs an excellent office. From the moment I walked in, they were warm, friendly, and attentive. They made the whole process feel easy and stress-free, checking in often to make sure I was comfortable and helping everything run smoothly. Their kindness and professionalism truly stood out. My appointment was at 12pm and I got out around 1:45pm to get a full scan and review of my teeth. The staff was delicate and easy to talk to with no judgement or sign of judgement in their faces. As someone that faces anxiety, this has been a large part of why I don't go to the dentist as I should. They took the time to answer my questions, review every aspect of my care plan and outline the costs up front which I appreciate. I went ahead with the periodontal cleaning schedules. Called to see if they accept Medicaid. They told "no," but invited me for a "free consultation". During the visit, I asked if I had any money obligation. The deceptive receptionist told "no." After the visit, I was insisted to pay $62. When confronted, they told "you have seen a dentist". Yes, it is called a consultation, which they were deceiving upfront to be free. I did not pay; they mailed me a bill with a doubled price, $130. Stay away at any cost, especially when most of their nurses are inarguably ADHD psychopaths. read more

Wanting to establishment a dentist in this area, I was relieved to see how many availabilities they had. I checked in early and was taken in on time. From immediately walking in, I could tell they tightly book the appointments since the staff were quickly moving in between rooms. They are consistent about professional and constantly changing gloves. Being that they have such an overlap in between patients, you will be spending some time waiting but they were also flexible with squeezing an appointment in that day. The female dentist I had was very kind, informative, and open for questions. Costs are also very transparent along every step. Will come again! read more

I should have checked the reviews before I went. Everything they are saying is true! I went in for my first appt. And they only did X-rays and said I had to come back for a cleaning. When I returned they told me I had to pay $192 for all these extra charges. I told them I only wanted a cleaning and the lady shrugged her shoulders and said the charges on the invoice were my out of pocket. The hygienist did not introduce herself and just shoved her hands in my mouth and was hurting me. I had to stop them and just started sobbing. At the end there was no talk about after care - if I had "gingivitis" THAT bad wouldn't you think they would discuss that??? Btw I've never had gum bleeding or soreness or swelling. I still think about how ridiculous this place is, and it's been about 3 months since I went in. I went in for a consultation, but the whole time I NEVER EVEN SAW THE DENIST, just the assistant, and then another assistant, then got an x ray of my teeth. Again, never even saw the dentist, the dental assistant (one of them) said to me that they would HAVE to shave down my wisdom teeth because it's so close to the nerve, then they sent me on my way. Later that week I had another appointment where the RUDEST dental assistant (different than the first two) was so unprofessional to my mom -who was paying for the appointment and procedural costs- and was just overall pissy that I was there?? To get my teeth looked at in a dental office?? Imagine. Then Dr Merriam came in finally and was like yeah, we are going to do this and this and pull out all 4 of those wisdom teeth... mentioned NOTHING about shaving them down, and so I was confused. There seems to be miscommunication within the dentists and their assistants. Back to the dental assistant who was pissy- she asked me what medications I take and then I pulled out my phone to tell her. She then proceeded to just record my phone with her work (im hoping it was a work phone, I didn't really know what she was doing, again, no communication from this lady) and then I slid my phone screen up to continue reading, and she goes NOPE, IM NOT DONE YET SLIDE BACK UP. I've been going to Sage Dental at the North Druid Hills location, specifically seeing Farina Jahan, the dental hygienist, and I can't even begin to explain how amazing she is at what she does. Farina is incredibly thorough with my cleanings and takes the time to explain every step of the process and why it's important. The dentist is nice but I am frustrated with the staff. They made me an 8AM appointment so I could squeeze in before work, but at 8AM the doors were locked and nobody was there. They didn't open the doors, turn on the lights, and get me checked in for 30 minutes. What's the point of making an 8AM appointment to avoid missing work if the appointment really starts closer to 9AM? Ridiculous. Also, I saw a dead cockroach on the floor which makes me question the cleanliness of the place as a whole. read more

I can't believe I went to this dentist office more than once. The first time I went for a cleaning but they refused, only giving me an exam and making me return another time for a cleaning, scheduled another month out. They have "mandatory" services they do not tell you about until you are seated in the chair ready for your treatment - which insurance does not cover ($100 last time). The front desk staff is slow and provides inaccurate information about billing. The corporate office has continued to charge me for a service my insurance company has paid for, and the LaVista office says they "can't do anything about that." Most of the times I call to discuss billing or scheduling I am put on hold, and I have been hung up on and on hold for over 10 minutes. Oh and then there was the time someone was "helping" at the front desk but told me they did not know how to put a call on hold and then hung up on me. I insisted at one point on communicating via email, only to have someone email to say I must call. Lastly, one of the front desk people addressed me as "beautiful" instead of calling me by my name. Went in for a regular cleaning recently and the new dentist - Dr.Niles was so rude to the hygienist and dental assistant - was literally yelling at them to get things or move faster while I was in the chair. This was the worst dental experience ever. My son was in much pain with a toothache. He was a cash patient. I was told on the phone that he could purchase insurance and everything would be 65 % off. I was told that the X-rays were free. When he arrived the plan was $149. The x-rays were free with the plan but they fail to mention the consultation fee $178. Plus Exactions were only 35% off. You ask how much for the extraction and they can't tell you until after the consultation ( which never happens btw) meaning pay the $178 fee first. And then the kicker, $650 for an extraction with the insurance you've just purchased (Yes this is with the 35% off). And not to mention the ladies behind the desk found this funny! ******Customers beware******* Do not use this place as a cash patient and definitely do not purchase that insurance. **Please Read Before You Wind Up Financially Robbed** Unfortunately, this dental practice (perhaps ALL franchises) appears rife with inexperienced and unprofessional adolescents manning the front desk area having no understanding or concerns regarding patient billing, authorization process, and plain old customer service etiquette. Despite having the "premium/PPO" benefit plan and clearly communicated to SD staff minors that NO AUTH is required for root canals and provided a user-friendly cost breakdown of services. Instead of submitting an invoice/claim AFTER performed services, they insisted I pay their upcharges which incidentally included a line item for PPE. PPE??? NO PATIENT SHOULD BE BILLED FOR THEIR OVERHEAD EXPENSES. That is why we have budgets. Subsequently the final straw was when the provider insisted their staff wait 2 weeks to obtain an authorization for a root canal not required, cause addl undue patient suffering since I refused to pay approx $1,000 out-of-pocket same day vs billing my insurance AS REQUIRED BY LAW, including having to split and delay treatment of care due to management efficiencies. No wonder there is a boatload of negative reviews. read more

I wanted a cleaning, they said I needed a "deep cleaning" and charged me $193.60. They hardly touched my mouth. I complained to my insurance company and complained to Sage Dental. I talked to one person and she said she would talk to someone else. The other person hung up the phone without talking. I called back and talked to someone for a while. First, the office staffed were pleasant and welcoming. I was informed that I needed deep cleaning for my care. Which included two visits. One for $400 + for the right side of my mouth, then 374 for the left one month later. I had my right side done and then realized my plaque in my lower teeth had returned. Now, I have had my teeth cleaned and they did not feel the same after Sage cleaned them. I returned for ky right side DEEP cleaning and informed the hygienist which offered every excuse except their poor cleaning services. We discussed the matter and she walked away, probably to talk to the dentist. I informed to do the left and let's move on. While the cleaning g proceeded timers other phone went off. Not only hers but unheard other hygienist alarms going off. Quantity over quality. $1000 later, which I'm Aetna would give to investigate their poor practices. My teeth are somewhat clean. FIRST AND FOREMOST - BE PREPARED TO WAIT! i had two appts scheduled todday, one at 2pm and one at 3pm. i'll explain why below. i was finally called to the chair at 2:40pm. as i was sitting in the exam chair i could see the screen beside me displayed their appts for the day. they had me scheduled at 2:30 and 3:30! i asked what was up with that and was told it must be a "call center mistake". i think i know b.s. when i hear it. i believe they just tell you to be there early without letting you know you're really scheduled later. while the staff and dr.s maybe good enough, the parent company is concerned about one thing - how much money they can get out of you and your insurance. last year i scheduled a root canal and two implants. i spoke extensively to the financial coordinator who informed me that my part, after insurance, would be approx. $3000. the work was badly needed, so i stretched myself to the limit and decided to put it on credit cards. when i arrived for my appt, excited to get new teeth, i was informed my share would be $4900! i was gutted. i ask for a few minutes to think it over and went outside to shed a few tears in my car. i felt like i had no choice but to go back in and get screwed by this company. fast forward to today. i called last month to schedule an appointment for cleaning. i was told i must get an exam and x-rays first. ( oh, and there would have to be two appts) never had that happen with another dentist. two appts means to office visit billings. as i was in the chair today, i inquired why i had to have x-rays and and an exam before i had a cleaning. i was told it is just their policy. and that they have to do it to determine "what kind of cleaning" i would need. i ask what she meant and she let slip in her explanation that my insurance might not cover some cleanings. i told her i didn't want to pay any extra for what should have been a covered or "free" cleaning. i ask if i could just get the cleaning that my insurance would cover and she explained that that might be malpractice. what?! this all feels like b.s. to me. They are asking for a special cleaning that is not covered under insurance whereas other dentists are willing to do a cleaning that is covered. They didn't even do any cleaning during the first visit and insisted on a second visit that is not covered. They seem money hungry and I would go elsewhere. This is my husband's experience. I came here because my usual dentist was getting extremely popular, so I couldn't get an appointment with him. I should have read the reviews first. First, I didn't think the place was unprofessional necessarily, but it was unusual. Like other reviewers, I was surprised I wasn't given a cleaning first thing. They wanted me to proceed with some crown repair (which I knew I needed), but they wanted to do it before the cleaning, which I had never heard of. To their credit, the hygienist did NOT recommend a deep cleaning, just a regular cleaning for now and a deep cleaning later (I actually would not have minded a deep clean, I haven't been to the dentist in awhile). I love this place! The dentists and staff are all very professional. I had been dealing with an issue from an implant which was needed due to negligence at a local dentist office. After going back to the old doctor and being seen by the oral surgeon I went to Sage. The dentists figured out quickly what the issue was and made a same day temporary crown while I waited. They found the source of my discomfort that lasted over 6 months in 30 mins including X-rays. I definitely recommend Sage Dental! I just make sure I read and discuss everything while there. As an adult you don't not have to allow any medical professional to anything you don't want done. Don't accept and then blame the doctors. It's your body, your choice. read more

I have never been to a dentist where I spent an hour there and didn't end up with a teeth cleaning. They would like me to come back for multiple appointments to get the cleaning done. I was not given an option to do anything basic but must do the deep clean. I understand I have plaque build up and that is why I went to the dentist but I have never had a dentist say to come back for a deep cleaning and not do a regular cleaning right there and then. They are trying to get as much money out of you by giving you a "plan" based on xrays and a quick look-over. Read review for other Sage Dental Practices: this practice simply attempted to upcharge me for numerous aspects of a routine cleaning, which I get done twice a year. I scheduled an appointment for an exam and cleaning, but they never told me that I would have to return for a second visit for a cleaning. And I've NEVER been to a dental practice that didn't provide a cleaning after X-rays and a visit from a dentist. After an "assessment" by the dental hygienist, a billing person came and attempted to charge me more than $500 for a cleaning, which included a $25 bottle of mouth wash. When I told the billing person that I wanted just the cleaning allowed under my insurance, I was told that the practice would not provide that service (and I go to the dentist twice a year, so it's not like my mouth was in bad shape in any way.
