I was then told to follow this routine at home and return in six weeks to assess any changes--no cleaning was performed at that first visit. At the follow-up appointment, I was seen by a different dental hygienist whose overly cheerful and rehearsed demeanor felt disingenuous. While she wasn't overtly rude, the interaction felt hollow and uncomfortable, which added to my unease. During the cleaning, she made a snide comment about my dental habits and then completed the rest of the procedure without much communication. I also noticed an unpleasant personal odor, which was surprising and concerning given the setting. Hygiene and professionalism are especially important in a dental care environment, and this contributed to a sense that standards were not being met. Unfortunately, during this visit, I believe the hygienist injured my gums multiple times due to a careless approach in handling sharp instruments. One area in particular has remained inflamed and possibly infected ever since. There was no review or inspection with the dentist afterward, which I had expected based on past experiences at other dental offices. As I was walked to the checkout counter, the hygienist casually mentioned that I "might need antibiotics" in six months if the issue with my gums didn't resolve -- an issue I am not sure I had walking in to this appointment. I never saw the dentist again during that visit, and no additional guidance or follow-up was provided beyond the flossing and brushing routine recommended weeks earlier. This entire experience left me shaken and disappointed. I have no history of gum issues or needing oral antibiotics, and this visit left me worse off than when I arrived. I haven't felt comfortable speaking up, but I'm sharing this because no one should leave a dental visit with lingering pain or uncertainty about the care they received. I genuinely hope this office takes the opportunity to improve how it communicates services upfront and invests in better training for staff--especially when it comes to patient care, professionalism, and technique. Patients deserve clear communication and quality care that prioritizes their well-being and comfort.

I called our orthodontist in Oklahoma to see if we could make an appointment for when we returned. Our orthodontist was going to be taking his vacation once we returned, so we would have to go see another orthodontist that would be covering while he is on vacation. His office staff suggested that we try to find a local orthodontist that might be able to see her while we are still in Decatur, so that she did not have to stay uncomfortable while on vacation. I called one office and it was going to be $150 to clip a wire. I called a second office and they were going to charge $360 to clip the wire. My best friend and her husband suggested that I call Decatur Orthodontics, so I did. Allyssa was my first interaction with the office. She was kind and super helpful. She was able to get us in right away. Our visit was less than 5 minutes once we arrived. The office staff was helpful, kind, and extremely efficient. The office was super clean and very organized. They were kind enough to take care of this for us as a complimentary service. If we lived in Decatur, this is where we would go! I had to get my child out of school early because you can't be late. We waited about 30 minutes for the dental hygienist who was very sweet, named Barbara. She took time to let my son look at her tools before using them, she even offer a choice of flavored for the toothpaste. Another, thirty minutes before we saw the the Dr., who was very nice and very professional, but we were kept waiting too long in an empty room. We read all of the books I brought with us multiple times. My child was tired and hungry by the time he was seen. I don't blame the service providers, as much as The scheduling , but it would have been much better to just make an appointment for 3 or 3:30pm if we when we didn't leave the office until after 4:30pm. I requested a private room, but I expected to be seen promptly. We will return, because it was very clean and organized. The doctors and staff were all very good with children.

I'd recommend this office to others but they're also available with other offices throughout the city. Also if you're trying to get a Saturday appointment it's super hard to get in because those appointments fill up fast but luckily they're open late on weekdays Here to get a temporary filling taken out and the permanent put in. I'm a little disappointed I don't have the usual assistant because she is always on top of things. No notes are in my file so I'm in here telling this assistant today everything that's been done to my mouth and the issues I've experienced.
