WARNING: "DENTIST MELANIE SCARFONE IS THE WORST DENTIST IN THE PALM BEACH AREA. Anyone considering going to Sage Dental, do not go. My mom went to the Sage Dental office located in East Boca to get partial dentures. After many years using the same model, she decided to change the material, which was called Valplast. Once the process began, as the weeks went by, the work dragged on for more than 5 months, when a partial denture normally takes between 2 and 3 weeks to make. The delays started with the dentist's personal vacations, the wait for the dentures, the lack of communication regarding the appliance measurements, etc. When they finally delivered the dentures, they didn't fit properly because there was a problem with the measurements, and they were sent back to the lab for adjustments. After the second delivery, my mother informed the dentist that the partial dentures She was in pain, the braces were too tight, and she wasn't comfortable with them. The dentist suggested soaking the braces in warm water to loosen them and coming back for adjustments. With each adjustment, the dentist, Melanie Scarfone, pushed the braces down between her gums, causing my mother to bleed and be in so much pain. When she left the office, she couldn't even eat because her mouth was so sore, in addition to the gap left by the braces mold at the back. After so much back and forth, I told her that my mother wasn't satisfied with the work, and she acknowledged it. She told my mother that she didn't think she could meet her expectations for the braces and therefore was going to give her a refund. Both parties agreed, and I said, "That sounds good, but in order to do that, I need the management at Sage Dental to give me a letter of guarantee specifying that my mother I would gladly return the partials as long as you give me that letter signed and stamped by your management team. The answer was NO. I told them at all times that I have no problem returning the appliances as long as my mother receives her refund formally. They told me to contact the Quality Control department, and during all these months I have only spoken with Lory/Laury twice. She is supposedly from the complaints department at the Sage Dental offices. It must be emphasized that she is extremely unprofessional in every sense of the word. The two times I have spoken with her, she has not been able to offer a favorable option or solution for my mother to get her partials. The times I have called the patient quality control number, no one answers, how is that possible? The last conversation I had with Lory/Laury was that a superior from their offices was going to call me to reach a solution/agreement regarding this situation, and no one has contacted me/called. **BEWARE** I scheduled an appointment for a routine cleaning which is included in my insurance for twice a year. When I got there, I double checked if preventative screening is covered here since that's what it says in my insurance. They proceeded to tell me that the appointment is ONLY for routine exam and they will decide what kind of cleaning is needed for the next appointment. They also could not answer if preventative health/dental cleaning is covered and said I would receive a phone call. This sounds like a scam because I go to the dentist twice a year before I moved to Florida and the routine check/cleaning is in the SAME appointment and I never had to pay. Now I know why there were so many bad reviews about the dental practice trying to sneak in extra costs. read more

I have been a patient for 10 yrs and always had great treatment but not any more. Bc I put down in 2018 that I had high blood pressure which is no longer the case. I would ask them if they ever update their records bc I have filled out new forms every year and clearly stated no longer taking BP meds or have hypertension. After I had been sitting waiting for 20 min the office manager came out and said just so you know we will need to take yr BP and I said why? I'm here for a consultation. A dental hygienist came into the lobby to take my BP, I said r u kidding. Take my BP in the lobby in front of everyone. She said well the Dr is busy and this will speed it up. We went into a exam room and the hygienist took the BP and it was 200/100 on a battery machine. These machines has less than accurate ever. I said if that;s my BP I should be going to the MD Now next door bc I'm stroking! This is the most ridiculous treatment. I was upset with them bc first of all I'm not on meds, I just saw my Primary DR and my BP was 143/70 which he said not bad for 78 yrs old and had no problems. I was then told that the Dentist I was going to see for a consultation could not see me bc of the high BP and gave me a Medical Clearance Form for my Dr to fill out before they could do anything. Even for a consultation? That did it for me. I've been going to this office for 10 yrs and never had BP taken for a cleaning or anything else I had done. And I believe the Dentist I was to see for the Consultation had no interest in seeing me anyway. I'm sorry this happened bc it was a very good office for a long time but they have changed techs, dentists, hygienists and office help. I got the sense that they coming up with ways to make more money. I strongly recommend to find another group of professionals and stay away from this office. I had a dentist tell me why would you go to a group that's named after a herb, Sage Dental. Avoid this office for your own good. Find another Dentist, Boca is full of them. read more

Worst experience I have ever had with dental office! Have to agree with the poor reviews posted. My dentist wrote me a referral to a peridontist because I had a problem. The code used costed me 200 out of pocket. I spoke with Sherri in Billing who told me I could call ins company to understand why I had a limit of two on this code. The ins company provided other codes that Sage Dental Could use instead. Left messsage for Sherri to call me back and she never did. Called again and gaver her codes suggested by insurance company and she said she can't recode. I reminded Sherri multiple times that I was referred for a problem, not general exam, which was clearly stated in the referral. I will not return to an office that doesnt do the right thing for the patient. Have seen periodontists in the past and never had this issue. Just called other perio offices and they said the office could recode specifically since the insurance company even provided other codes that the office could use. I had a root canal done by Dr Anthony Carter which was extremely pain free. Who would have thought no pain or residual discomfort? Never had a better experience with this procedure. My experience before Sage Dental was for the lack of a better word devastating to my life, and has literally given me a phobia. Sage Dental has the most wonderful staff and dentist. Everything that is done is done with passion and good intentions for the client. I had one dentist growing up that was amazing and he was in a different state and he worked until he couldn't work anymore. Needless to say I have not met anyone like him for about 30 years until I met everyone at Sage Dental. I give them 10 Stars not five and my proof is below in my Photos, so no this is not a staff member making a big post as I've seen other people accuse people of doing. I just walked out of there yesterday and you must go to the one on Yamato Road in CVS plaza. I am so grateful that someone took me under their wing and made me feel confident with one of the most important parts of your body, your smile. My smile to me is everything. They did x-rays and dentist looked at my teeth. He recommended that i do a deep cleaning and then left. A hygienist returned with a form to sign for the deep cleaning which would cost more. I said no, i just want a standard cleaning. She said "ok, but can you still sign this form" and i said no, but if you print a new form for just the basic cleaning charges, i would sign that. She left and a different hygienist then explained they would be unable to do my cleaning at all because it goes against the "recommendation" of the dentist. This is unacceptable to refuse a basic cleaning because I didn't want to pay extra. Sage as a company is a total SCAM, they draw you in saying they except your dental insurance, only to be told you could save money by using there VIP plan instead. So, you get a price breakdown from your hygienist... VIP plan will get you a cleaning for just over $600 or use your insurance for just over $900. That's funny because my insurance gives me two full cleanings a year for free. I argued this with staff, at that point they are just happy to get you out of the office. The best part is, most Cleanings at any place are $120-$150. Everyone needs to put this place out of business before they SCAM others who can't say no... read more

Dr. Scarfone is nothing short of amazing! She removed 10 old cracked and discolored veneers and replaced them with 10 beautiful zirconium crowns. They are so pretty, and the color is so natural and white, I can't stop looking at myself! The process went smoothly from start to finish and I could not be happier with the result. She is a perfectionist, a true professional and an artist. Also, major kudos to her assistants and the staff at Sage Dental whose collective efforts made this such a wonderful experience. I have been having my teeth cleaned for years with the talented Gloria and have enjoyed their well-run and clean and sanitized location, but never knew they were capable of providing such high-quality cosmetic dentistry for half the cost of some of the fancy Boca doctors. I stopped in the other day to Sage dental hoping to find my "next dentist". I had moved recently up from Broward and didn't want to have to drive down whenever I needed something. So I went with the place I had gotten a flyer in the mail for. The flyer said something about a free special toothbrush with a visit and it was near the house so I thought, why not. When I got there I walked into a nice place that was bright and inviting. The gal who took my exams and x-rays(that was common initial consult), was nice professional. Another gal came in and checked things. She noted I needed a "deep cleaning" in "all 4 quadrants" of my mouth. Later the dentist went over things with a cavity I had and it all made sense. I was then pitched their program. For a couple hundred dollars it was a discount on different things and a couple free cleanings. BUT, that didn't include "deep cleanings". It all felt very bait-and-switch. I left without doing the program. I checked around and the prices were a bit higher than other places, regardless of the deep clean thing. Oh and the flyer thing about the toothbrush? It didn't apply to first visits(a weird flyer that requires multiple visits to get a toothbrush). As I say, I had hoped more from my new local dentist. This is the worse place ever, my first appointment the hygienist was running behind so i waited 40 minutes before leaving. Came back today and called to confirm my appointment this morning i am also 36 weeks pregnant and advised that i would not getting Xrays. They confirmed, I showed up only for the hygienist to wave her super long nails across my face and tell me that if i do not get xrays then i cannot get my routine cleaning. They have a script: You enter, They make the x-rays, after the Doctor comes and analyses you. After this, the DR. ask if you want to start making the cleaning at the same moment or come another day. The doctor leaves, a Hygienist comes with forms for you too sign with crazy amounts and tells you that you need a deep clean. If you refuse a deep clean and ask for a regular cleaning they tell you they cannot do it. After all, when you leave they charge you for a what they can. In my case personally, my insurance doesn't have a co-pay for a new patient office visit, but they Sage charged me $15. Total scam read more

Excellent experience. Coming into the appt for a root canal, I was very nervous. The office is clean, spacious, and new appearing. Michelle kindly welcomed me at the reception and I signed a form. I was brought back within 5 minutes. Constanza, the wonderful assistant to Dr Pyner, gave me a squeeze ball for my nerves and helped to to get comfortable. Minutes later, Dr Pyner came in and introduced himself, explained the procedure, and started the music- classic rock, old rock, including Johnny Cash. I left the office within an hour! I was a patient when it was Gentle Dental - the first year and a half were great - I had my teeth cleaned by a great hygienist several times and was very happy. Then for some reason I began getting referred to specialists and had to book numerous appointments to be told I needed a graph and other things - I had no issues with my teeth so I think they were finding ways to create sales. I went to another dentist (private, local) and was told everything Sage was recommending (3K) was not at all necessary. This place is a corporate scam - bring in the numbers at all costs! No wonder everybody is leaving - they are forced to be part of the scam do yourself a favor and find a local, reputable dentist. Not impressed. Went there for the convenient location after 15 years at another dentist. All of a sudden I have periodontal disease and need a deep cleaning. This diagnosis was before a cleaning or a visit by the dentist. They took X-rays and poked my gums in 3 places. They refused to do a regular cleaning. I went back to my original dentist and, surprise, no problem with my gums. I've seen a number of different hygienists at the original office and not one of them ever said a word or made any notation about any problem with my gums including the one who just did my cleaning. read more

This is in response to the review that I wrote earlier to which the Sage Dental staff of East Boca responded with a standard customer service reply. The package I bought for two cleanings x-ray and an examination for $180 out of which they only did the examination and the x-ray and forced upon me the periodontal cleaning otherwise they would not do the general cleaning. I walked out of the office sure that I would get a second opinion. Not only that they did not refund me my balance. So I went to another dentist Dr. polin who has been practicing since 1963 and guess what? I am fat do not need a periodontal cleaning, they did the genetic cleaning very well, of course I ended up being for the service again which Sage Dental cheated me out of, and I heard that this particular Sage Dental office has had very bad reviews in the past. I now plan on reporting them to the city bureau as an unethical and dishonest practice. I understand stupidity. What I don't understand is unethical dishonest and cheating customers out of their service in gaining of oneself. I would highly discourage anyone to go with Sage Dental. I am going to write another review for Dr. Polin who is just the opposite honest ethical upfront and transparent. Oh and by the way Sage Dental customer service Karina did speak with me and she even tried to take it up with the corporate office but they gave her some unethical response again saying that normally the cost of an x-ray and a cleaning would anyway be more which she also disagreed with because if that is the case why charge a patient $180 for two cleanings one examination and one x-ray. I have insurance and was scheduling my yearly exam that is included in the insurance, they said that I needed a deep cleaning but I wanted just a regular cleaning. They refused to do that for me. Shop around - go somewhere else if possible. Original timeline given: 6 months Time taken: 11 months. One month shy of the anniversary of the extraction date of October 16th, 2020. - First timeline change: Another patient had an emergency procedure and my appointment needed to be pushed back...one whole month. - Second set of timeline changes: The casting of the upper jaw was sent to a lab and the casting was damaged in the mail. I had to come back in and redo the casting - the second casting was then lost. So I had to come back in again to do a 3D imaging instead of a casting and then that was sent to the lab. - Third timeline change: I was told that after ensuring that the internal screws had adhered properly to the bone, that within a couple of days I would be able to meet with another doctor to finalize what needed to be done so the replacement teeth could be ordered. This meeting was pushed back by two weeks. - Fourth timeline change: After the teeth were ordered, there was supposed to be a 2-3 week wait time. To be safe, my appointment was scheduled after the 3 week mark on a Thursday at 2:30 pm - they called me on Wednesday at 4:54 and told me that the appointment had to be canceled because they did not have the "case" (new teeth) yet. I called back within 5 minutes only to be greeted by an automated response after the phone rang for a minute. I called back again and this time the phone didn't ring and I only received the automated response. After all the dust had settled, my appointment was rescheduled for September 1st at 10:30 am. - Fifth timeline change: Teeth came in but they did not fit properly. One tooth fit well, while the other tooth sat at an angle. Rescheduled yet again until September 16th. In summation, I went almost a year with no front teeth. The original time quote was 6 months. There were continuous delays from their side - pushing the timeline further and further from reach. I had no front teeth. I wanted front teeth. They have offered no compensation in any form for these outrageous delays. I am a full time engineering student in college that has had to work 2 jobs in order to pay for this procedure. At the time of the last appointment (September 16th), I had to pay my final bill. I didn't want to pay the bill, because if I did that, I figured Sage Dental would be less incentivized to work with me. They didn't want that at all. They wouldn't let me leave without paying the final bill because that would be stealing from the doctor. Fair enough, I'm not a thief. I paid the bill and asked if they could perhaps stick up for their customers 10% as well as they did for their doctors. I called corporate twice and left two voicemails and over the course of almost 3 months now, they haven't responded. read more

I had to do a couple fillings here after getting my exams and X-rays. I went in for a check-up for my deep cleaning and my hygienist recommended I get a couple fillings done. After discussing this with her I signed my treatment plan for 3 fillings for 90$ ( the rest covered by my insurance .) I went in for my appointment today and they handed me a new treatment plan for almost 200$ more then what I was told. That did not make me happy at all I was expecting to get 3 fillings and only ended up getting one. But I really did enjoy Dr. Scarfones work, she did a great job on my filling. No soreness or discomfort at all and my tooth looks a 100% better. Maybe if the whole confusion with my treatment plan didn't happen I would've rated you guys a 5 star. read more

Tiffany is incredible at the front desk, I am new to having my own insurance as I have recently weened off of my parents to begin "adulting" and she really helped me understand the proper steps to take to make sure that I was all set.
