I've been hiking around the Bishop and Mammoth Lakes area the past couple days and finally needed to get some hiking poles and microspikes/crampons for the Sabrina Lake to Blue Lake Trail. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the great assistance and information provided by Mike and Sarah Re: gear. (FYI - They have tons of variety for your outdoor needs AND even have a climbing wall and gym) Purchasing the Leki trekking poles and renting the Snowline microspike/crampons $6/day was FABULOUS! With my poles and the microspikes I felt like an invincible SpiderGirl walking up and down hard packed snow and ice! I LOVED the hike to Blue Lake SO much, I hiked it twice in a row!!! YUP! I'm talking 2 days SAME trail! One of my all time FAV hikes and I've hiked in Patagonia, South Island NZ, Canadian Rockies, etc. If you want some hiking fun at this time of year, drop by Sage to Summit! Buy your trekking poles and rent your microspikes! Totally worth it! I'm thinking of hiking this trail one more time it is THAT cool to hike thru packed snow and ice with those microspikes. FYI - Hike to Blue Lake is about 7.15 miles RT based on how much exploring you want to do! Luckily, I hiked in twice in a row to shoot some photos in different sections. It's a HUGE lake and unfortunately, I don't like waking up early, so still wasn't able to hike further to the middle of the lake area due to lack of daylight hours at this time of the year. Sage to Summit is a small business with big ideas for lovers of the great outdoors. Their help was friendly like we were neighbors. We are in some respects since we love the surrounding outdoors. The prices were decent, different from other bigger stores that demand high prices because you might not have a choice. I bought Topo hiking boots, which I had previously walked in on the Camino De Compostela. They lasted the six hundred miles plus a month of Alaska and beyond. I was casually walking back to my hotel when I stumbled upon this hole in the wall. This fun rock climbing place had something for all skill levels. The session also included shoes and liquid chalk!! Such a deal! In addition, I accidentally forgot my rings and the employees were kind enough to hold onto it until I came back the following week. My friends and I went into Sage to Summit last night while walking by and there was a small crew of people doing a tasting of Pat's backcountry beer kit. We got there at the end and the owner redid the demo and tasting just for us! Today I hit up the local spots in search of a new sleeping bag. Karen was extremely helpful and offered the lightest weight bag at the best price. She also sold me her own down jacket because I was in a pickle. Above and beyond customer care! Over a year ago I dislocated and broke my ankle up on Mammoth Mountain of all places. I needed a pair of black work boots for my work cause I couldn't get my old ones on since my ankle didn't bend like it use to. The people set me up with the most comfortable boots I have ever walked in, plus I bought a pair of tennis shoes which also helped me during my physical therapy. I'm still wearing the boots and tennies I purchased at this establishment and though I get a yearly uniform allowance which includes boots, I'd rather spend my own money for another pair of these boots. In fact, I pretty much decided I won't buy shoes anywhere else. In addition, the customer care at this store is amazing! read more
