WHY WE WENT HERE: - my brother and I set up an appointment…read moreto donate our hair together to Wigs for Kids - the original salon we were going to sent an appointment reminder to me informing me they were temporarily closed until June 2024 - we had a limited time window in which to get the hair cut for the both of us (full weekend of family events; plus my brother lives out of state) so I turned to Yelp to get quotes and appointment availability from about 2-3 dozen salons - chose Breanne because she was the most communicative, gave fair pricing, and had the availability we needed - because we needed our hair done simultaneously, Breanne reached out to a barber to get my brother's cut in at the same time as mine with her THE LOOK (FROM THE OUTSIDE): - street parking off 16th St - building is located on 16th St in between O St and Carriage Path - from the sidewalk my brother and I saw various studios into the building we needed to go into for our appointment of people with a barber or a hair stylist THE LOOK (FROM THE INSIDE): - just like we saw outside, inside we saw that majority of the suites are individual contractors (mainly barbers, hair stylists, and I saw one for nails) - I'm not sure exactly which barber my brother went to, but he was in a different suite down the hall and I was with Breanne - in Breanne's studio it's by the window looking out to 16th St, so lots of natural light; she has everything needed (one barber chair as she's the sole stylist, one shampoo sink, one chair in the corner if you had a guest with you, floating shelf of the hair products she uses, which were mainly Kevin Murphy, and a wall mounted TV playing a Pandora station of vibey R&B and Hip Hop) CUSTOMER SERVICE: - Breanne was extremely communicative prior to booking the appointment (gave me all the information I needed) - once my brother and I arrived at the building, I text her as instructed to let her know we were outside so she can let us into the building - she guided me to her salon suite and my brother to his barber's suite - during the appointment she was very warm and welcoming and listened to my needs (I'm not necessarily picky about my haircuts since they occur so seldom; I grow it out to donate it) - she was sensitive to our time crunch and changed our appointment to be slightly earlier so we couldn't be late to our next obligation; she did well with the cutting of my hair donation, my shampooing/conditioning, and my cut and style

My hair is a big part of my look, and I'm willing to spend on a haircut to avoid getting a bad one. I researched stylists before choosing Behnaz, and she had glowing reviews and years of experience. First impression--Behnaz is lovely and elegant. I placed my trust in her ability to give me a cut that looked like the inspo I showed her on a model with similar hair texture. She immediately went in with the scissors and chopped it from almost waist-length to chin-length before shaping. As she cut the layers, especially the top got quite short. She ended up taking a flat iron to it, which I NEVER use on my hair. I wasn't able to tell if the cut would even work with my curl pattern. It ended up very...mushroomy. I pointed out that it seemed too heavy and she snipped a little weight off, but left it mostly as is. I had also booked a haircut for my mother and she was up next. My mother's cut only took about 15 minutes as she's an elder with very fine, straight hair. Her hair turned out very cute, but I left feeling unsure and insecure. I honestly wish I had asked her to continue working on mine since she had an extra hour left on my mother's appointment time. I followed up with Behnaz a week later as she said my hair might be "in shock" for a week or so. She said to give it another 2 weeks!! I ended up asking her to try to adjust it 2 weeks later. I've never had to have a stylist fix a haircut EVER. She thinned it out at the bottom, which was better, I guess. I felt I was inconveniencing her and just tried to wrap it up because there's nothing she could do about having cut the top layers too short. Ultimately, the haircut didn't ever lay right, and I believe Behnaz is more familiar with cutting straight hair, not textured hair. It might be the worst haircut of my life and I've had to resort to wearing a baseball cap to get through before I get it cut elsewhere. I had a consultation with another stylist who said, "Yeah, she knew she got you." Also--while Behnaz has a very sweet demeanor, she took TWO separate phone calls while she was cutting me. The first one was from family overseas and I was understanding of what seemed like an emergency--but the second call was from a prospective client inquiring about her prices. It felt rude that she was answering calls during my appointment time, and considering how poorly the cut turned out, she needs to prioritize the client experience. I honestly feel bad leaving 2 stars because Behnaz is a kind person, but I want to spare other curly girls my pain. Straight hair girlies, this may work out just fine for you.
