I just moved to Sacramento and Nola gave me my first haircut here and I'm so happy with it! With the heat, I decided to cut at least 6 inches off, going from long hair to just above my shoulders. I have really thick hair that is VERY susceptible to getting big and poofy, and Nola was able to cut it into the perfect shorter style for me. The real test was after I washed it myself...all I had to do was blow dry it and it was sitting perfectly! Which never happens for me! Coming from LA, the prices here are so reasonable and the service quality is fantastic. I needed a refresh of my hair after having it all grow out from pregnancy so I came in with virgin black hair, and Nola was so wonderful- she was personable, and knew exactly what she was doing so that she gave me a better balayage than the examples I provided. It looks super natural and I'm really pleased with the results. The cut was perfect- she didn't cut off too much and I got to keep my length with healthier layers. I'm so glad I found this place! Nola did such an amazing job with my hair. My hair is very thin and tends to get frizzy, but she gave it a cut that made it look so much fuller and healthier. She trimmed all the split ends and added layers that gave it so much more volume without making it feel thinner. As I was recovering from a horror story of a previous hairdressers experience at a different salon. I am glad to say I found a new hair home at Mecca salon, Nola is amazing and I hope she will be here to give me much needed hair advice and expertise. Came back to Leah after a year of not getting a cut haha. I typically don't do much with my hair but it was time to get it cut again. This time I wanted to try something new and gave bangs another shot! I expressed my interests and concerns to Leah about what I was looking for in bangs. I've never had them as an adult and had a terrible look with them as a child. Leah is always super sweet and supportive and works with what your hair type will do best with. I love her suggestions as well. After getting the initial cut, I was excited but nervous since it was a new look. After spending a few days with the new bangs they have grown on me! I had a really great experience with Mecca Salon! Booking was easy. I reached out on Yelp and Brooke responded quickly and was able to get me in within the week. She was also at the salon during my appointment and was so warm and welcoming. The salon is easy to find, cute, and clean, with street parking right out front. I had an appointment with Hailey for a balayage/blonding after 4 months of grow out. She was very attentive and professional. She let me tell her what I want to achieve and showed her images prior. But when my hair didn't turn out the tone I wanted, I reached back out immediately and she was able to get me in right away to fix the tone. I got a few messages from different salons, but I was looking for something that was within walking distance because of the style that I wanted, I would have to be going to the shop at least once a month so Mecca salon call me back there within walking distance. She was very upfront about pricing, discussed coloring that I wanted, and would talk to me throughout my cut to ask my thoughts on the layers and if I wanted more off. She's such a chill and open person as well, so you feel very comfortable with her quickly. I went in there originally with a set hair cut style in mind but was a bit iffy about if it would look good or i'd be able to maintain the upkeep with styling and asked Hailey her suggestion and she put me in the right direction and I love the way she cut my hair! She's knowledgeable and she also does what's best for your hair, I wanted to get my hair dyed but after doing a test strand & her advising me my hair still needs a bit time to heal for box dye I appreciated that. Walked in and Haily began with telling me how damaged my hair was and couldn't add color on my ends. It's not that I didn't agree with her but it's how she talked down to me. I asked her to add highlights and break my base. She proceeded to tell me that she had been a hair dresser for a WHOLE 4 years and in those 4 years she had never had the experience of breaking a clients base. Wow! She then said she would call her manager and see how she could did it. Later the receptionist came and told me that Hailey wasn't comfortable with doing what I asked. Desperately needed a haircut while on vacation and Mecca Salon had great reviews and availability. So, here I landed one Sunday afternoon. My hair didn't need any major structural change and I'm not into coloring or doing much with my hair. Mostly it was a wash, cut and blow dry. Easy peasy! Leah cut my hair and I have to say the consultation at the start was one of the best. I really appreciated her honesty and perspective as I shared some concerns with her. It helped me make good decisions for how a "clean up" cut would work for my thinning hair. The staff was also super helpful when I had a question about a local spot I was trying to figure out. Came in a month ago. Been waiting to see how the color faded before leaving a review. My normal place is in Pleasanton, but having a one year old and being pregnant makes the drive difficult so I decided to try a new spot. From posts I saw Heidi has done red hair color so I decided to book an appointment with her. She came in at the time of the appointment and then had to get ready/ set up. It was fine- I wasn't in a rush. We had a consultation where I said I wanted all over color and would prefer it to be a little lighter. She told me with my roots being so dark we wouldn't be able to get it lighter and I was fine with that. She made me sign a quote before she started service. When she started my hair she started under the root and I thought she might have to do a slightly different color on the roots so I didn't think much of it. She then started putting the plastic cap on my head for processing and I asked why she wasn't doing my roots. She told me they don't do roots with a semi permanent and I was baffled because there was no mention of semi permanent. I've always asked for all over color and get permanent. She said she could fix it by putting permanent color over and as she was walking away said I would be charged for the additional color. When she came back after mixing color she said she assumed I wanted semi permanent because I said "lighter" color during the consultation and semi permanent washes out faster. I was so confused... why would I want the color to have brown roots, red hair, and for it to wash out faster?? I feel like she should have covered this during the consultation instead of assuming and charging me an extra $50 for her mistake. The color came out nice. The cut was pretty good, I do like my normal person more. It was over $300 for my service plus tip. The color was nice and she was nice, it just sucks I had to pay extra for a mistake she made. Plus her reasoning just didn't make sense to me. read more

I am always scared to go to new places especially when it comes to my hair (shout out to all the bad haircuts I've had in the past!). I did some research and Mecca Salon just stood out. I was able to make an appointment request online then the appointment was accepted and officially scheduled shortly after - this was about a week before my desired appointment time. Super easy and seamless. I got stuck in traffic that day on my way to the salon, but I was able to find parking pretty quick around the block. I showed up a few minutes late but Mona was more than accommodating (thanks Mona!). She sat me down and we talked about what I was thinking for the cut and showed a couple pictures. She said she got it and a few tips. She chopped the length off and took me to the sinks. The shampoo she used smelled amazing and we talked the whole time. Mona is great at conversation and I felt like an immediate friend. At the end of the appointment I love the cut and my hair just feels so healthy. I had my cut, baby lights & money piece highlight done by Angelica about 5 weeks ago & I still love it! My hair was well in its awkward stage of overgrown roots (6+ months) & needed a cut badly. I have thick hair that I don't style often. Angelica was able to blend out my layers during my first visit so that it's not too thinned out & I can still style it nicely everyday with little to no heat tools. During my second visit for the highlights, I was still unsure of what I wanted but she made me feel comfortable as I asked what she suggested would look best on me. Sooo we went with the baby lights over my existing blonde. I'm not sure how long I was there for but I think I might've been in & out in less than 1.5 hours. I'm very happy with how my hair turned out Even though I was exhausted coming straight to the salon after getting off work, Angelica kept me awake & made my visits interesting. Our conversations almost felt like I was catching up with an old friend because she's really cool, easy to talk to, very sweet & funny. TLDR: Pros - cozy environment with residential feel, decent price structure, and liked that they were open on Mondays. Cons - didn't enjoy my stylist and parking can be tricky. Booked a blowout before going on vacation back in November because my hair is really hard to style on my own in humid climates. This was one of the only salons open on a Monday in the area so figured I would give it a try. The salon itself is unassuming in appearance (looks very residential) but cute and inviting inside. Parking can be a little precarious because it is on 30th street, so high traffic area. Parallel street parking. I would probably give the salon as a whole a try again for a blowout if I needed one, but I would not book with Monica again, unfortunately. She was running a little behind...which is fine, I get it. I was on a tight schedule though. Once I got into the chair, she started launching into consultation for a haircut. I told her I had only booked a blowout. I arrived with my hair not styled, pulled back and in a top bun. I do have some longer curtain bangs and a hair cut I currently really love from a great stylist. But when I told her I was only getting a blowout, and without evaluating my hair when parted and combed out, she kind of insulted my hair cut and asked if I was sure I didn't want a cut because she said my layers were all over the place and not good. She was looking at my BANGS when they were all pulled back. So, initially, we weren't off to a good start. She tried to back pedal as she was blowing out my hair saying how healthy and well styled my haircut was but... meh. She also told me at one point that I would look much better as a blonde, which was a bit of a turnoff for the experience as well. The blowout wound up being fine, but lacked some of the volume I had requested and had been looking for. But for the price and convenience, it was satisfactory and saved me a headache for a few days. read more
