I've had some pretty rough experiences with hairstylists, mainly around professionalism: showing up late, or getting shamed for having gray hair in my 40's....It made me feel uncomfortable in a way I can only compare to searching for a new OB-GYN/ dentist -- like I was constantly bracing for judgment instead of just getting my hair done! So I took it to the internet, asking my community for local recommendations & got about 20 suggestions, but most people either didn't have a website, weren't easy to contact, or had little experience (nowhere to review). I had my third appointment with Paula and it was an utter delight! She checked in on my "sparkles" (gray hairs) and made polite conversation throughout the appointment. Before we even started, she confirmed the services I requested and explained the pricing structure; I appreciated the attention to detail. My appointment was about 3 hours and it included hair lightening, pre-toner and toner application, hair wash/scalp massage, and a blow dry/styling. She has been learning more about color theory and narrated her actions throughout the session. Her commitment to expanding her knowledge makes her a great professional and leads to a higher quality product and customer experience. The space is gorgeous, as always. Everything is clean and tidy; staff and customers are able to move around without crowding each other. There are light refreshments available. I also bought some product (shampoo and conditioner). I am a lover of the wildest, boldest colors in hair, but also a fairly socially anxious person. Elayna not only nailed my look perfectly, but also never once made me uncomfortable. I saw her on January 25th for firetruck red hair with yellow highlights/streaks, plus a bob cut and curtain bang. I was warned that it would be an all-day process, but it was doable - and also that the dye pattern I'd asked for would last maybe a shower or two before the red would wash out the yellow almost entirely. She suggested a checkerboard style instead of highlights, noting that the colors would still bleed together, but 1) last longer and 2) look more intentional when the did. It's what i went with, and I honestly love it more than I think I would've liked the initial idea. I REALLY appreciate her honesty and willingness to answer every single question I had. It made the experience so lovely and thoroughly worth every dollar & hour I spent! The salon itself is lovely, with really cute lighting and refreshments available to clients. The bathroom is large and well-kept, even though they it with the shop next door. There's a counter in front of you within reach while you're sitting where you can put your phone, drink, etc. Elayna also struck a great balance of conversation and quiet, which was awesome for an awkward guy like me! She was happy to let the music fill the space between us, but was very easy to chat with when the mood struck. I'm gonna keep this hair as bright and beautiful for as long as I can, but TRUST I will be back. She was honest and told me it would be better to wait and focus on treatments first to get my hair back to a healthy place, which I truly appreciated. Before working with her, I had to wash my hair every single day because it would get extremely oily. After consistently using the products she recommended for the past two months, my hair has completely changed! I can now go 2-3 days between washes without my hair feeling greasy. I seriously can't say enough good things about Paula! I went in with hair that had been through a lot -- damage from a perm, a few color attempts gone wrong, and about 50% grey at the roots. My hair was frizzy, orange, and I honestly thought I'd have to chop it all off before my wedding in two months. Paula was amazing from the start. She really took the time to listen to my whole hair story, explained what was going on, and helped me figure out what my actual goals were. I loved that she didn't make any quick promises or try to sell me on something unrealistic. Instead, she took photos, said she wanted some time to come up with a plan, and followed up a week later with a thoughtful approach that made total sense. She also made it clear that if I wasn't happy with anything, we'd fix it together -- which was such a relief! When I sent the picture of what I received (one Davines missing shampoo liter was missing) they said that my picture did not match their "shipping video." Honestly I am in my 50s and have seldom felt so insulted. I chalk this up to incompetence and a lack of accountability.
