We recently moved to the East side. When our pup Mokey (adorable risk taker) injured herself on a Saturday, we were in a pinch as our Seattle vet doesn't see patients on the weekends. Dr. Gurm made time to see her same day, and called me on later in the weekend, spending time with me on the phone after to discuss an abnormal lab result. Emma at the front desk was amazing and super helpful over email. We had a couple visits since, and every time I am blown away by their responsiveness and caring. We were so impressed we moved all of both of our pups care to Sahalee. Thank you for taking such great care of our pups! They know, your pups are your family. We had a very poor and costly experience recently. I took my female Great Dane in for lethargy during a very hot streak in the area. They took her temperature and found it to be high, and then recommend over 1600.00 of tests / fluids and an appetite stimulant. In the end she was only dehydrated. Rather than start with administering fluids which would have cost under 200.00 and in the end was all that was needed (the dog showed vast improvement within 30 minutes) they ran numerous x-rays and bloodwork. When the vet tech shared the proposed treatment plan, we instructed them to please try and minimize cost by approaching the care in a cost effective manner. Instead, they rapidly did every single thing possible, while we waited not knowing what was happening. I was promised a call to check in and that they would try and take a cost effective approach, I received no communication at all, and in the end I had to ask what was going on, only to find out that they had already done EVERYTHING. My bill was wildly expensive for what amounted to 60 minutes of care and a need for fluids. I even had to call myself later in the day to ask about the remaining results and the Dr was clearly working overtime to justify so many tests all of which showed nothing of note at all. When I reached out later via email with my concerns, asking for the administrator, I received a defensive response from the attending doctor stating things like "well now we have a baseline, the x-ray company we use is highly professional" completely not addressing my concerns. I replied back again reiterating my concerns with how the treatment plan was approached and how it conflicted with our desires, and requesting a discount to the services we paid for, and then they just ghosted entirely. No response since. This was a huge money grab in my opinion and I will NOT be taking my animals back there again. read more

DO NOT COME HERE. Thank god I requested a printout of our records, because I discovered they were treating the wrong symptoms. Their notes say "presents with constipation", then every other note lists diarrhea instead. Medications for diarrhea, take until diarrhea stops, etc. Naturally my dog is still extremely sick and symptomatic 4 days later. I wish I had caught this sooner, but I didn't know the patient was responsible for quality control. The vet clearly didn't read the notes, or notice the error. The vet tech obviously wasn't paying any attention to what I was saying, or what he was writing. Truly, go somewhere else. Better to wait than get treatment that worsens your dog's condition. This one star is for the receptionist gals only. They are the only ones who seem competant. read more

Do not bring your pets here. This clinic sold us medication that was expired by over a year, which made my dog's symptoms significantly worse. They refuse to acknowledge their own negligence and have repeatedly ignored my attempts to have a conversation about getting a refund for my last visit. They did refund the bad medication, which was a fraction of the total bill, proving they value money over providing quality care. Their indifference to their own malpractice is alarming. The vet hasn't even bothered to reach out to see if my dog is ok! Note: they were the easiest vet clinic to get an appointment with - but don't take the easiest appointment you can get (like I did). I recently decided to give Sahalee Veterinary a try and will not be returning based on my experience today. Our 1st visit, I was impressed with Dr. Coleman's knowledge and genuine concern for our dogs care. Dr. Coleman suggested an injection to help with seasonal allergies which was $100. This needed to be given every 4-6 weeks with a technician. What she failed to tell me is the additional $50 charge for the technician (not doctor visit) to administer the injection. This was a surprise after the shot was given with $155 bill to pay. Also, when I called to schedule the front desk couldn't even find the record of his first vaccine with Sahalee. Very concerning not only the cost, but the lack of organization and knowledge at the front desk has lost our trust with Sahalee. read more

Go online to Google and read the reviews. Bad clinic. They did procedures to my cat that didn't need it. They did procedures I didn't ask for or approve. Charged me for it. After I had to wait an hour for them to do any work on my cat before they received payment. Took advantage of me while I was in distress. Doctor never called me back rude on the phone and hung up on me after I told him my experience. I will never go back here I've never had such an awful experience. I spoke with Kendal the veterinary assistant when I called who was amazingly helpful and was able to get me an appointment at very short notice. When I arrived Kendal came to see me immediately and explained the details of the visit and that Dr Kathy Park would be examining Coco. Kendal took Coco inside. Within 30 mins or so Dr Park called me and concisely and clearly explained the examination, their recommendations, and ran through the directions for the medicine that she was giving Coco. I've decided to take my other cat and two dogs here from now on. Fantastic. Caring, compassionate, above and beyond. I adopted a kitten, and on his third day at the house, he was very lethargic and wouldn't eat and wouldn't play. My regular vet would not see him because he had not been in for a regular visit yet, because I had literally brought him home a few days prior. I called all over the place trying to find an emergency vet or even a vet that would see him on short notice (like the next morning), and Sahalee is the only one that would help me. They stayed late just for me and my cat, performed all the necessary tests, diagnosed his issues, told me what to do, gave me his scrips - they stayed late to do this. He was back to his old self the next day. If I was not so inconveniently located, they would be my primary veterinarian office. Cannot recommend them enough. read more

My dog had a rush, and it was misdiagnosed. It got worst after applying the lotion that was recommended. 2 days after the appointment, I sent them a picture explaining that it got much worst. They had me come back and wanted to charge me another $75 dollars for the appointment. When I told them that it does not seem right to me to pay another fee since I was there 2 days ago, and my dog got worst after doing what I was told, the doctor got really rude and told me "Nothing is free" and that I should have done the tests that they recommend for $700. That seemed too much for a rush. They are not just incompetent, but they are very rude as well. read more

Not the greatest experience, by far the most conveniently located to me, but says a lot that after going through the process of transferring records from my previous vet along with paying for the intake process, that I won't continue with them and instead will drive the extra miles to my original vet. Very unorganized and ill-prepared for the initial visit and even though I provided all previous vet contact information days in advance, they had not made the effort to contact them until my visit requiring a much lengthier one than necessary. I had to stand my ground as they wanted me to come back for a second visit to give them more time to obtain all records. If they weren't prepared they should have canceled the appointment with me ahead of time. I did not feel a good vibe from the staff towards me or my dog. read more

For your animal's sake, please don't take your pet to Sahalee Veterinary Hospital. Three weeks ago, my dear dog passed away. Yes, she was a senior dog. Yes, there might not have been nothing Dr. Coleman could have done to save her life. But I will never know due to the lack of professionalism and complete disregard for compassion for my dog and myself. My dog began vomiting at 8:00 AM. She was perfectly fine the day before, walking her normal two plus miles. By 10:00 AM she was lethargic. I made an appointment at Sahalee Veterinary Hospital. At 2:30 PM Dr. Coleman told me my dog was ill and had a temperature of 105.6. Dr. Coleman told me to go home, she would run blood tests and x-rays then she would call me. By 5:30 PM I was not apprised of her results. I called and was told "I should come and talk to the doctor". At 5:45 PM, Dr. Coleman did not have a diagnosis. When I asked if my dog's fever was down, she said she "did not have time to take her temperature again." And I should transfer her to a different facility for further investigation. Dr. Coleman failed to treat this as an emergency, and she didn't initiate the transfer in a timely manner. The technician carrying my dog out to the car on a stretcher gave me a terse answer to my question of why my dog was gasping for each breath: "it's normal with high fever". Just before I left the facility, the receptionist handed me a bag of medications. Dr. Coleman never mentioned medication for my dog. After all, how could she with no diagnosis? The "medications were just in case and they would not hurt my dog" I was told. Thirty minutes later, on route to the emergency care veterinary facility, my dear dog died. At 6:35 PM, members of the Blue Pearl hospital in Renton met a shell-shocked woman who realized her 11-year family member had just passed away. They treated me and my dog with compassion, professionalism, and respect. I highly recommend this hospital and Dr. Nee. Three weeks to the day my dog passed away, I returned the bag of unopened medication to Sahalee Veterinary Hospital. The receptionist asked if they were opened. My response of "I never opened the bag of meds. My dog passed away 30 minutes after we left your facility" garnered the response: "That's okay." And the medications were returned without another word. We all work very hard to find the best possible veterinary care for our pets. My regular vet was out of town and I unfortunately chose Sahalee Veterinary Hospital for my dog's last three and a half hours, where I do not believe she received the care she needed. Please don't take your pet to Sahalee Veterinary Hospital; professionalism and compassion are not part of their creed. read more

Willing to see us fairly quickly and with a drugged cat that they hadn't met before. Right away, they sprayed a towel with a pheromone spray and put it over our kitty's cage; the smell of which, calmed him. Dr. Gurum was very reassuring and suggested diagnostics and potential options for what might be ailing our cat. Turns out, our kitty had a bladder stone and had to have very expensive surgery. It has only been a couple of days, but we feel the medicines and suggestions to keep our kitty calm at home are working. We wish someone had offered us a payment plan and told us about a soft collar rather than the hard plastic one that we're keeping on him so he doesn't disturb his wound. Fortunately, a friend who is familiar with cat rescues offered us a bubbling fountain (easier for our cat to drink with a cone) and a softer cloth collar so he's more comfortable sleeping. read more

If the Wu-Tang Clan were a veterinary clinic Part 1 - I took my feline family member of 16 years to this veterinary clinic for end-of-life intervention and I believe that my experience there is worthy of comment. There wasn't a single moment where I felt that the veterinarian had any real concern for the safety and comfort of my cat. The sole focus of my encounter with this practice for them... Was to get as much money as they are able to get from me. This was not on a "Dr. House" level where the skills were there but the empathy wasn't... This was strictly Bernie Madoff-level demanding the money and showing all of the places where I will be charged... While calling it "diagnostics". I came into this clinic with 30 years of medical practice under my belt however... I am only a clinician for humans... I'm not a veterinarian... And these are the people that will most certainly ask me if I am a veterinarian should I challenge their course of treatment. When I did question why they are charging me $30 for a nail trim when I'm bringing my family member to them for end-of-life comfort intervention the charge was immediately dismissed and it was explained that the charge list is auto-generated. I specifically asked for a paracentesis to alleviate the acute discomfort of the bloated abdomen and to allow us a chance to see if there is residual constipation and was instead "educated" about FIP and the dangers of said disease. I had to systematically go through all of the charges that were present on their template that automatically popped up as suggested fiscal advantages for this patient and dispute each that seemed unnecessary to me. The discussion lingered as ethics were questioned and my cat was still not being treated. We agreed that I would pay the $500 for the full-body x-ray and STAT radiology reading so that we could assess for further charges. My cat was left at the clinic because this step took a couple of hours. When the report was emailed to me, I did receive a call from the veterinarian and he was very quick to remind me that the cat was dying... like we'd both agreed within the first several seconds of our initial acquaintance. He then agreed with me that the best approach would be to simply drain the abdominal fluid and allow the cat the opportunity to breath more comfortably, but also felt it necessary to readdress the truth that the cat was not going to live very much longer. I thanked him for his amazing differential and he informed me that I can pick my cat up at the end of the day, so they can be allowed to drain as much fluid as they can from my cat's abdomen. Kind of an appropriate corollary of their practice, I thought. I went and recovered my cat at the end of the business day and indeed, their diligent office staff very efficiently cashed me out and informed me that the paracentesis will be an additional ~$500 fee. So, the good news was that the original $1500 template fee was able to be reduced by 30%. The office team also made certain that I would receive an emailed invoice if I chose not to receive a printed one. I mean... they spare no expense. The ever-gracious office staff did make the promised follow-up call the next day and I had indeed seen that my cat was continuing to decline. I made the decision with my family to pursue their euthanasia services the next day. This was again, right around the time line that the veterinarian and I had agreed would be the most probable so it was not a surprise or shock, simply heart-breaking as anyone would expect. I took my cat back the next morning and was very promptly and courteously escorted into an exam room where after a short wait, a technician came in to chat and assess the situation. After struggling with the clinic application on the computer the consoling discussion started from her by stating that it would cost $250 to euthanize the cat and they do offer many cremation options that she would like to explain to me. I chose to interject during her obviously oft-repeated sermon about the differences between the handlings of different types of cremation services to inquire about simply taking my cat home after she had been euthanized. The surprised expression on the technician's face showed me that my theory about the demographic of their customer base was correct as she was indeed not as practiced at accepting this as the chosen option of body disposal. The final procedure went nearly as well as can be expected. There was some difficulty in handling the compromised patient, but to say that he "killed it" would be both correct and incorrect depending on your chosen perspective. In the end, I knew what the outcome would be before I set foot into this clinic, so I knew that it would not be an enjoyable experience. It wasn't.
