    Banh Canh Cua

As a Vietnamese, I think the food here, flavors are similar to the one that I have tried back in VietNam. So if you are looking for authentic Viet dishes, this restaurant is for you. However, I would not get Banh Cảnh Cua, solely because I can't taste or see any crab meats. The restaurant is a little small, but definitely have spaces for dine in. The food come out pretty fast, and the staffs here are really nice. They make sure you have everything you need as quick as possible.

Let me tell you, one of the best viet places around. It's not one of your stereotypical pho places with 2 other dishes. These are viet dishes.Banh Canh Cua, Bun Rieu, Ca Bong Trung Rang Muoi... 110% would come back.

Fried chicken with Vietnamese fish sauce was amazing. Can be messy to eat with your hands. The banh canh cua, which is a dense crab soup served with chewy clear udon-like noodles, is tasty. It has crab meat and claw as well as congealed pork blood patty in it. The bun rieu, a noodle soup with a tomato based broth and served with rice noodles, is also good. Though tasty, you will get a sodium boost/rush by the end of the meal. You will feel it in your face (unsure if it's due to MSG). The iced Vietnamese coffee is thick and creamy from the condensed milk. This is exactly how I like my Vietnamese coffee. This is a really small restaurant on Dorchester Avenue. Small groups works better. It can't really accommodate large parties. Also, there is plenty of street parking. Not a special occasion place either but a quick lunch spot. This one is real 3.5 stars, not quite 4 stars. See my pictures.

One of the worst dining experiences I've had in awhile. The service here was very poor and we were tended to by multiple people. The correct utensils were not provided and we had to ask for them more than once and I eventually got up and grabbed them myself from a coffee table. An elderly beggar walked in and right up to our table and asked us for money. It wasn't until he approached a second table that the manager gave him some money and ushered him out. As for the food: The bun bo hue tasted like Indian curry. The crab noodle soup had no flavor whatsoever, the noodles were soggy, and the scare bits of crab often had cartilage in it. The drinks were reasonably large and all of the deep fried seafood items were pretty good, if not a bit overly salty.

This was my first time trying these dishes and having a family style Vietnamese meal at a restaurant. These dishes were great picks with plenty of flavor. The menu has so much to offer too. I found the food to be a little bit too salty for me but maybe I'm just not used to these flavors yet.

Very tasty food! Big portions that were enough for a second meal. I like the Canh Chua Ca Bong Lau (sweet and sour soup with catfish) and the Tom Rang Muoi Co Dau (spicy salted shrimps with full heads & shells) here. The Ca Kho To (caramelized catfish) is good too, though the fish was a bit harder in texture than it should. The Nuoc Chanh Muoi (salted lime drink) was nice and refreshing! Would recommend!

This is the original Saigon seafood which is down on Adams street. It's a downgrade to the other location in size and food. But basically they carry the same menu. You can sit down and eat here since they have the glass panel setup but the quality of the food is not as comparable as Saigon seafood . They don't even have a liquor license here if you're looking for a drink with your meal. The chicken hot pot is one of their best items . The chicken salad and the salted fried chicken also . They do have some exotic and seasonal items like wild boar and deer meat dish. It's good for drinking but downside no liquor License here .

Because i have to star this I did. But this place is a horror show. They have family hanging around barefoot and another picking his teeth, thoroughly. The was a baby crying. It was chaotic. It took the server more than 10 mins just to bring menus. The water they brought over was good. However the glasses were dirty still with another patrons lip stick. We would not see them again for another 20 mins. We were the only customers in the restaurant. We ordered some appetizers that were flavorless and gamey. So we did not eat any of it. Then they brought out what they considered beef and broccoli. The beef tho coming fresh from the kitchen was cold which made me look thru it and meat was still raw and the sauce tasted like the just made a stew sauce with nothing but soy sauce. My rice wasn't brought out with my meat and when it was it was a small like dish portion. Like the dishes they put sauce in. That's when i had enough and left. I would never step foot in that place again. Nothing here was a good experience.

I don't know why this place has bad reviews. I'm from Vietnam and I've have been in Boston for 6 years and I'm kicking myself for not finding out about this restaurant sooner. Everything here taste homemade and traditional. Their dishes are really well made and that's what makes them different from other big restaurants in the area. My favorite is Their Lau Thai but honestly everything on the menu taste amazing in its own way.

Updated 6/7/2017 Today, I was craving for "banh canh cua" thick crab udon soup, so I gave it a try. I normally just get bun rieu here. It is a good choice, the banh canh cua is so good and authentic compares to other banh canh cua I have eaten in Boston area. A bowl has 4 shrimps, 3 big slices of grilled fish, 1 pincer, pork blood and pork. I will try other dishes next time, this is still my favorite place for bun rieu and now banh canh cua. I went there with my bf couple times, waiters and waitresses are very nice, it's small but usually not very busy. This was Thao Ngoc Restaurant, but then they change ownership, I think the food are still taste the same. We mostly get family meals like fish maw and crab, Vietnamese crab thick noodles soup, mixed veggies with garlic, salted spicy shrimp squid soft-shell crab, and grilled clam with scallions and peanut. The prices are reasonable, the food are good. Yesterday, I went there for bún riêu (special vermicelli soup) because my sister told me they have good bun rieu here. And this was boom, it has been a long time since I have that a good bun rieu, they also come with mam tom. I'll come here every time I'm craving for bun rieu.
