    Saigon House Special Banh mi
    Phornsinh I.

This is definitely one of the top banh mi sandwiches in the Central Valley! The new owners did a great job renovating and cleaning up the interior. It used to be outdated but now is clean and more inviting. The banh mi was delicious. The baguette was fresh & flaky, not hard at all. The veggies were refreshing: cucumber, daikon, carrots were nice and crunchy. The pate & mayo balance out the flavors and the mild is a nice light spice. They have spicy and extra spicy options which are SPICY . The amount of meat was the perfect ratio for the sandwich. The Ube drink was so refreshing for this hot summer in Fresno. I Will be returning to try the other food and drink options. There is a couch and table with couple chairs, not much for dine in but more for quick take-out on the go type.

Spicy special Banh Mi. Extra mayo Extra pate Medium spicy

Special Banh Mi with extra mayo, pate and extra spicy. The bread 3/5. Need to be toast or more toasted. Still edible. Not too soft or hard. Not sure if they do or not. The vege 3/5. Pickle daikon and carrots wasn't too pickle yet. But still good. The thickness of the carrot and daikon is spot on. Need more cilantro in my opinion. The meat 4/5. The thickness and tenderness is spot on. Different cut of deli meat. The mayo, pate and spicy paste 4/5. Mayo was very runny. Still good. Pate is good. The spicy paste is the best part. Overall 4/5. Probably second best in town in my opinion. Houng lan sandwiches still better but by the hair. Best mom and pop banh mi in Fresno for sure

Update! I recently went back and omg, you need to try it with the garlic butter. I ordered their original sandwich with the cold cuts, extra spicy and with the garlic butter. It was soooooooo good! The mayo in there was delicious! Everything about the sandwich is 10/10. Bread texture and taste is amazing. Still Need to go back again to try the other sandwiches and spring rolls.

I've been coming to this sandwich shop since I was a kid and I'm glad they had this upgrade! New shop is cleaner, modern and more inviting as a sit down lunch spot rather than a grab and go like before. My usual is the spicy Saigon house sandwich which is the best banh mi in Fresno (fight me) but this time opted to try out the spicy lemon grass beef banh mi. It was flavorful, filling and hella spicy ! Huge sandwich so come hungry Thai coffee is good as well. Nice update to the shop. My only small critique is that they need to stop leaving cleaning supplies around the restaurant lobby. It's always been that way though. Just a hazard if spilled. At least I know the shop is clean

Finally got to try the garlic butter bread banh mi and my oh my did it really make a difference! You have to eat it freshly made IMO, it just tastes best that way! The bread is nicely toasted with the garlic butter spread on top and gives it a nice crunch and yet still soft on the inside. My niece went n got one and we ended up sharing. She asked for it to be extra fuckin spicy and they delivered OKAY!! Even threw in a small container of the spicy paste. lol. She even asked for it to have extra pate,.. she loves that shit! Every bite we took it was the spicy paste and pate just spilling out from the other side. It was delicious!! Now ik if I ever get a banh mi from there, I'm ONLY getting a garlic bread style one. It's mando!!!

Newly remodeled. Very nice looking and clean. Nothing bad about the place at all. But the sandwiches don't taste the same. It's a new recipe, if not new recipe then different brand usage of pepper, mayo, etc. I guess new owner new recipe. But I prefer the old recipe, that's just my preference. Sandwich is loaded with meat, but the meat is very dry. I really miss the old sandwich though.

I called to make an order of three spicy sandwiches. Heard it was under new ownership so wanted to try. When I walked in, I was greeted and the place was empty but cleaned. Picked up my order and notice the sandwiches were not toasted or warm. Maybe that's how they make them. The taste was ok. I wish it had jalapeño, more cilantro and could use a few more slices of meat since it was pretty thin. The spice wasn't that spicy although I did order spicy. Was hoping it would give it a good kick if jalapeño was not added. Onto the bread. It was pretty hard. I don't like eating hard bread where it will tear up your upper mouth. Maybe if it was toasted or warmed up, it'll be softer. There was so much bread that it made my sandwich look like it had no condiments.

Service was nice and quick. I'm Just so used to the original and this didn't hit the spot for me. I was super excited they were finally open when I went by. I wanted to get it the original way to see how the portion was first. I got it spicy but it wasn't as spicy as it used to be. I feel the flavor wasn't the same and the flavor was the only reason why this was always my go to. Not a fan of their daikon and carrot size, I prefer them to be thinner. Place looks cleaner inside with the remodel. Hoping to give this place another try as I have been hearing good things. I just don't want to be disappointed again, but I shall give it another shot soon.

Trying this place after the new management. They remodeled the inside and now it looks brighter and more open. Busier now too, so you might not get to have a seat while you wait. For the sandwich, it is not the same like it was before, but it was still good. I think the pate is the same though. The Thai Tea I've ordered had a lot of milk in it and I think the reason was the tea itself was too strong. They also expanded their menu so there are other sandwiches to try too.

Saigon Grocery is a self-proclaimed hole in the wall, according to the super friendly employee we encountered on our first visit. Not only were we warmly welcomed by the employees, one even came and sat down with us while we ate and had an impromptu chat. Although there is basically no ambiance (or A/C) , the sandwiches and service are so good, it's totally worth it. There is only one thing on the menu--a Vietnamese sandwich. On our visit, it was chock full of house made pickled veggies, tasty pork, and cilantro all on a fresh baguette. The sandwich was big enough to feed 2 of us and at $10 each, it was a steal! If you like it spicy, be sure to let them know and they'll add a delicious chili spread. Cash only! No $100 bills accepted. Tip: check out the grocery store across the street for the freshest produce straight from the farmers.

Before there was Huong Lanh, Before there was Paris Banh Mi, Before there was Springly, there was Saigon, a small lao shop that sold papaya salad and banh mi sandwiches. When my bff and I were in high school, her parents owned a Thai video store a few doors down from Saigon. Our almost daily meals after school while we rewinded tapes to rent out were from Saigon. This is where I built my spice tolerance which is also recently gone down. Lol. I actually knew the original owners from when I was a kid living in the West Side. I saw that it was recently taken over by Millie Singanon on Food of Fresno 559 Facebook page. They are still using Saigon's recipe. I usually get a pork banh mi extra pork from Huong Lanh, but i really was craving a Saigon Sandwich. I called them and ordered a Banh Mi sandwich. Girl on the phone that took my order was niceI ordered to go and it was picked up for me. You cannot tell in the photo I am sharing, but this sandwich is a monster and huge! 12 inches for $12. Taste- This sandwich tasted very nostalgic to me. The bread was the gum cutter type of bread, liver pate was so delicious. The spice level was perfect. The daikon and carrots were really tasty, the cucumbers and cilantro was fresh and crunchy and paired well with the meats.

Please be professional and set your store hours correct. It says it's open online, yet when people go in person is closed with no sign?

It was my first time here, I wanted to study the menu,…read morebut as I was doing so the cashier was staring at me rudely as if I was taking up too much time. Mind you it was not busy at all. I ordered a turkey and a brisket sandwich and specifically stated no barbecue sauce on the brisket. As I was waiting for the order, I went up to her just to make sure that she wasn't adding barbecue sauce like I had requested. She replied with. " yes I did and I already made the sandwich." Indicating that I had to accept the sandwich as is because she already made it. Again, very rude. It wasn't until the manager or owner came into the picture and went up to the cash register. she then proceeded to come over to me and ask kindly if I would like the sandwich remade. She only did that because of his presence. very fake. The sandwiches were both lackluster, and the brisket sandwich was extremely skimpy. I'm not sure if she did that purposefully because she was bothered. Sourdough was good though. All in all, I cannot come back here after my experience. The manager or owner was kind and gave me some coupons but I still won't return.
