I just purchased a new LSZ-1 Premium walking foot machine. This is the second machine I have purchased from Sailrite. The first one was a 111 walking foot machine that Matt recommended to me back in 2005. I was new to sewing at the time and I was tired of the old singer breaking down. I purchased it used. So I called Sailrite and tried to place the order for a new machine I had in mind. The sales person was very helpful and asked if I had talked to Matt which I did not so she put Matt on the phone. Matt asked me some question about what I was going to be doing and recommended the 111 machine. It was the first time I ever dealt with a company and owner that just cost them self about $2000.00. The Sailrite 111 was $2000.00 cheaper then the one I was going to buy. I said this to Matt and his reply was no problem. I just purchased the LSZ-1 Premium so I can take it back and forth to the boat or any where else I need to. The 111 is a great machine and a work horse and never had any problems. And I know this new machine will be also. I am purchasing it for its ability to sew heavy material. Not for how load or quiet it is. All the employees at Sailrite are sewers or rippers so they love to answer your question. I have been buying all my supplies from Sailrite for years and never had any issues with waiting for it. If I have to wait a little longer for the machine, that is ok because I know Matt is tuning and setting it up before it gets sent. Do NOT do business with this company.If I could like many MANY others I would give them ZERO stars. The sewing machines are NOT worth the money and break down ALL the TIME. There are a tonne of far far better ,cheaper and MOST IMPORTANTLY - MORE RELIABLE machines on the market. I bought my Sailrite Ultrafeed LS-1 Walking Foot Sewing Machine on April 14, 2011. I buy all of my waterproof/UV resistant fabrics along with all kinds of hardware to do it right from Sailrite as well. Since then I have completed all KINDS of projects including making a giant waterproof cover for my husband's 8'x14' trailer, curtains that I can pull closed on back deck when it rains hard on snows. cushions for indoor and outdoor furniture. I learned as I went with their help; either watching videos on how to do things or communicating with them directly when I have a question. This has given me confidence to tackle just about anything. I recently made a basket out of netting for our pond skimmer to catch the baby salamanders before they went to their certain death through the pump. I even put a waterproof zipper in the bottom to release them. I never would have thought up such an idea, much less have the skills and knowledge to pull it off without these guys. My machine is still going strong. It is bullet proof really and I am about to start a new project of making more curtains and a spa cover using seam techniques I have also learned from Sailrite. I know they are mainly for boats and sailing needs, but they have extended their line into home projects. Their fabric selection is amazing. It is nice to have a competent and helpful family business behind me. read more

I have owned a Sailrite Ultrafeed LZ1 for a few years now. It is truly a work horse. I recently had to fix the top of a sail. Was not sure if I could sew through all the layer since it was extremely thick. I did go slow, but had no problem After reading the reviews on this site, I have a few comments to add. An heavy duty machine is going to be a little noisier then your average machine, but it will sew through very thick stuff. If the stitches are not perfect for the material you are using, it is just a question of playing with the tension until the stitch is right. It can also be caused by using the wrong thread. A few days ago, I needed help with which size of grommets to order. I first used live chat. The lady was very nice and recommended that I speak with one of the sail maker in order to be sure about the size. Since he was away from his desk, I left a message and got a return call within minutes. He was extremely helpful. One more time, thumbs up to Sailrite for their customer service.! It is so rare now a days to speak with a person, versus having to deal with automated answering services. I really love my Sailrite Ultrafeed LZ1. read more

This customer's complaint is so off-base that it is borderline laughable at this point. I have dealt with Sailrite on countless occasions and I know that they value EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE AND COMMUNICATION above all else. The fact of the matter is that neither UPS nor Sailrite offers any international shipping time-in-transit guarantee because international customs can intervene in any shipment they desire which can cause significant delays. Secondly, in this particular case UPS was in the wrong in stating that Sailrite omitted items from their Commercial Invoice, it was verified by UPS Mexico Brokerage that they made the error and this customer was sent an e-mail from UPS Mexico Brokerage stating just that. Mr. and Mrs. Customer, at this point your frustration with this event is obviously distorting the facts of the event in your mind and you are slandering Sailrite Inc. They are an outstanding company and strive to provide a wonderful experience for their customers. read more

I just finished my first project with the Sailrite Fabricator. I sewed new front seat covers for my 1966 Saab. It didn't take much time to get used to the new machine. I think the hardest was to stop scaring myself by mixing up the knee lift and the foot pedal. That made me jump every single time. I finally slowed the top speed way down and that helped greatly. I think it is old muscle memory from one of the old singers I had that had knee bar control. Anyway, the new covers look like a professional did the work! So much so, that I think the finished covers are going to spend another week on display in the living room. I mean - I have sewn other car seats with my 1960's Singer 401 Slantomatic and they came out pretty ok, but these are just so much better. The compound walking action is amazing. The slow speed ability of the motor is amazing. The piping foot is amazing. I am super happy with the purchase and now I want all the attachments. read more

I found Sailrite through a Pinterest tutorial video. I loved the instruction but was looking to make Roman shades differently than what their video showed. So, I went to their site and low and behold they had a couple different options. That is awesome. Then at the bottom of their site they have a fabric calculator!!!! What a life saver. I know how to sew but I don't do it often which makes it a tad time consuming to figure all that out myself. Yes I could do it but it would have taken me much longer if it weren't for Sailrite. I just ordered all the accessories needed to make 5 shades. I'd of ordered the fabric there too but I already bought it somewhere else prior to finding Sailrite. And besides that picking fabric from a small pic on a computer seemed overwhelming. read more

We received our new LSZ-1 sewing machine and had it in operation about 30 minutes after watching the video. It has easily sewed the repairs to our pop-up camper's slippery plastic coated canvas material that is 6 to 8 layers thick at the seams/joints and 3 new ottertex canvas zip-out windows and seams. The walking foot is awesome at feeding the slippery material and ensuring stitch uniformity. The basting tape included in the order made the project a lot easier too. We feel empowered with this machine and looking forward to completing a multitude of sewing projects. You get what you pay for and I am happy to support Sailrite because of their warranty, support, videos, related project materials (one-stop shopping), excellent customer service, etc. read more

This company is the BEST! I wanted an awning for my deck, but the prices were outrageous from our local company. Having sewing experience I decided to make a sail shade instead. The Sailrite team answered all my questions ahead of time and I watched their very helpful videos. Finally I ordered all the materials including the sewing machine, which is awesome! It took me just a few days and now we have a wonderful sail shade at 1/4 of the cost of the awning - and that included the sewing machine purchase. I highly recommend them! By the way, I have also used their videos to completely reupholster a large overstuffed chair and I get nothing but complements and astonishment that I was able to do it myself. I bought a Sail Kit from Sailrite for the Shellback Dinghy I built. The Sail Kit was delivered within just a few days to Switzerland. Everything needed to make the sail was included. It only took me a long weekend to sew the sail on my Sailrite Ultrafeed LSZ‑1 Premium and I am very pleased with the outcome. Really helpful were the two videos showing how to make exactly this sail - I watched them several times. I have made boat covers before, but this was my first sail. My new favorite site! Purchased a lazy jack system and their sail pack kit. Both items completely changed my "primitive" 1975 C&C 33 sailboat. The sail pack kit and design is genius. The entire pattern, printed instructions and the online video are flawless. I'm a sewing junkie now - I plan on making winch covers, grill covers, seat cushions... whatever I want (rather, my wife wants :) )!. The instructional videos they have are unsurpassed - they break down and explain the steps clearly start to finish. I ordered the Leatherwork machine and I'm very impressed with the build quality and features. One of the main reasons I went with the Leatherwork was that it came with the more powerful Workhorse motor. Portability wasn't a concern for me. The Workhorse motor I received happened to be DOA but Audrey, Matt, and the team were lightning quick get a new one out to me. The new motor showed up pretty much the next day and I didn't even have to send anything back. So if you do have a problem with anything, I have found Sailrite's customer service to be excellent par none. Don't worry about a thing, just go for it and get an awesome sewing machine that'll outlast you and then some. read more

I ordered phifertex mesh fabric, buttons, SNADS, tools to fix them and primer. All materials arrived within a week despite the COVID-19 closures at that time. The videos are very helpful but can be a bit confusing to a complete beginner like me. So I called the sailrite help center, the attendant was helpful and patient (with my sometimes ignorant questions). She guided me through my order, helped me select the right items for my boat project, without any pressure/intention to oversell products. This attitude makes me trust the company advice and I would seek it again whenever I need good advice. Overall a very positive experience. Highly recommend sailrite! read more

I love Sailrite! My experiences with customer service, product availability, prompt shipping and the LZ1 sewing machine, which I own, and how-to videos is excellent. I even learned how to repair my own machine after I'd sewed over a pin and broke a needle. The sewing machine is not like a commercial heavy duty machine, it sews a little rougher, I find. But for a home heavy-duty machine, I've found it just right for me. It's portable, heavy-duty, and sews leather, canvas, webbing... all I need to sew on that my regular home sewing machine won't. I'm not a "rewarded" reviewer... I'm a loyal customer of Sailrite. I am so grateful for what Sailrite offers! read more

Fantastic customer service PLUS sturdy and fairly-priced goods is a tough find these days, but Sailrite has both, and I'm so thankful I found them. Earlier this summer, I built the rolling upholstery workstand prescribed by its how-to video (and promoted in the "How To Reupholster an Armchair" video) and plan to use it this winter for my first reupholstering project. The trunkliner fabric I bought to cover the top of the table was recommended in the video, and it's just the right weight and durability for this application. The quality is fabulous, the prices are reasonable, and the additional content provided via their website and You Tube is phenomenal. Shipping costs were scary at first (reasonable, but you get spoiled by Amazon Prime), but prices with shipping were STILL better than in other areas and I'm getting advice and help at my fingertips from experts that really seem to care what I'm doing! You helped me rescue a chair that was old when we nabbed it off the street in our college days....years of coeds, then abuse in my office and now "loved" by children the upholstery was shredded. I really enjoy my new LSZ-1 sewing machine. It's a beast! It can sew flawlessly through multiple layers of canvas and strapping. I am currently working on making box cushions for our outdoor chairs. Videos are great resource that inspire and educate. The machine boasts a robust construction and a finesse of control (we have the basic drive wheel and motor). So far success at adjusting for tension, needles size, and thread thickness has been easy to achieve making for a very satisfying sewing experience.
