Worst hospital experience with my father . i had to 1 sleep on the floor next to my fathers hospital bed in icu . They say 1 person allowed to stay the night and provide nothing to accomodate ,1 small hard chair no reclining chair they could find. i asked my fathers nurse OLIVIA on adult icu unit about somthing i noticed on my father. OLIVIA's response was "i dont get paid enough to know what that is" OLIVIA also made remarks about having to "take a really good shower when she gets off" after changing my dads dressings and cleaning him after using the bathroom . Hearing these comments from someone who signed up to do these jobs is absolutely insensitive to any person in this hospital. A COLLEAGUE. came into my fathers doorway explaining to OLIVIA that another patient had removed maybe a nose oxygen line several times to which she blurted with what seemed like frustration " im gonna go stick that thing to his forehead" now out of respect for the other patient those words shld have never been spoken in my room in front of myself. as everyone has tried to come to defense that they "do" put on ones forehead at times, OLIVIA in every way meant it the way it came out she was "gonna go stick that on his forehead" I wish I could give this hospital no star read more

One nurse was going to give me another patient's medicine before I told her that the medication wasn't correct. Review for St. Agnes Hospital I'm currently a patient at St. Agnes Hospital after undergoing a hysterectomy and bladder sling procedure. While I truly don't like to complain, I feel it's important to share my experience so others can be aware and so hopefully improvements can be made. After surgery, I had to wait over nine hours before I was finally taken to my room and when I was, it was on the wrong floor. Once there, my nurse came in, wrote her name on the board, and then disappeared for three and a half hours. During that time, I used the call button through the TV monitor multiple times, but each time a PCT or intern came in not my nurse and unfortunately, they never knew what I needed or how to help. At one point, my medications were three hours late, so I called for the nurse again and once again, someone else showed up who couldn't assist. I was left in unnecessary pain, with no clear communication or support. Then today, they lost my blood work; no one seemed to know where it was or even what tests had been ordered. These are just some of the big issues. There have also been many smaller problems along the way that, together, have made this a very frustrating and disappointing experience. When you're recovering from surgery, you expect a certain level of attention, compassion, and communication and that has been lacking. Do better St Agnes! read more

Was here almost 2 hours before seeing the doctor, but the first nurse was AWESOM! The other 2 after her were uncaring and seems to hate their job. This is the only hospital in the Catonsville area. Was going to MedStar urgent care first but they don't treat dehydration, which being an urgent care facility should have the necessary equipment for that. Absolutely the worst hospital in area. Upon checkin - the staff are somewhat rude and unprofessional. Triage area where they take vitals - staff are again rude, unprofessional nonchalant - no sense of urgency or concern. We needed temp to be taken by ear not mouth. I asked nurse if they had ear thermometer - she said no. 2 hours later - once we went back to triage - the 2nd nurse mentioned no temp was taken - we explained we needed ear thermometer and she was able to find one in less than 10 seconds. Registration is a joke. The staff hand you a dirty tablet and you fill in info yourself. Back in triage - staff/nurses seem to play around more than they care for patients. Wait area chairs and tables in are filthy. Ants crawling everywhere. Triage rooms are dirty and not well equipped. You'd think they'd put a little more thought into the care and efficiency of their busy ER. Like small sterile tables for triage rooms/areas, a manager making sure issues/concerns are being addressed in a calm and timely manner & cleanliness is of the upmost importance as this is important in hospital settings. Here - none of these things are important. Overheard another patient who was very upset telling staff she wanted another doctor as she felt the doc she was seeing was "racist" as she was Muslim and he was Jewish and she felt discriminated against because of this. She was seriously disturbed as we were in this ER for over 5 hours and never saw this doc be nothing short of professional. Considering how many people were around - this was disturbing. No one there to protect this doc. Police are onsite but no officer is stationed in triage area. After 4 hours it was determined we needed IV antibiotics and fluids - all of which the RN tried to administer off the top of a garbage can - I stopped this. Unbelievable. Made her move to chair and use a table. I've built and helped plan & design hospitals - including Kaiser Permanente's & Johns Hopkins East Campus (Orleans st.) location - for over 15 years. I am experienced enough to know the difference between hospitals not having enough resources, needs updating on infrastructure/systems of operations etc and when a hospital has these things but needs additional training and accountability . This hospital has an updated waiting area and triage rooms. Most staff seemed well trained & experienced - just seriously unmanaged. Careless and next to no communication between one another - we had blood drawn for same test twice - the left doesn't know what the right is doing in here. This hospital has all the tools to be successful and could be better and should care more, do more - but they do not. We will never return. People - especially in this area - deserve more professional efficient care. Staff should be trained and ER services process should be more efficient and waiting areas should be clean. Absolutely terrible experience and I encourage you not to come here if you're suffering and are in need of emergency services. Go to Anne Arundel or Hopkins! Do not come here. read more

My husband sat 14hrs with a tube down his nose and into his stomach for something he didn't even need after they came in the next morning and said oh we were wrong about ur scans u don't have a blockage! they left him in pain after forcefully shoving that tube down his nose and throat into his stomach while he was screaming for relief after saying he couldn't breath they then left him sit there with the fluid being emptied out his stomach from that tube being dumped out all over him and his bed we spent 3 hours trying to get help not a single staff member around ! they are pathetic and fucking need to be shut down!!! read more

Came here for my yearly mammo. Social distancing was in effect with appointments spread out to ensure capacity of the facility was not compromised and signs were posted to ensure distancing when waiting to register for service and seating was set up to encourage it as well. I was registered in by a pleasant young man. There was a plexiglass barrier at all registration desks along with hand sanitizer. I waited not long in the socially distance seating area. I was called back, performed my service, with social distancing in effect. All in all, the service here is alway good with socially distance measures in place. read more

This hospital can do much better in the area of patient services. I try to keep my post short but this had to be said. The reception staff not welcoming to the loud and rowdy night nurses. My child was in an accident and the night staff was dancing and hugging each other as he lay in pain and monitors buzzing. None of the staffs understood how difficult it was for me to be in the position of having an insane psychotic episode in the head, while these staff members were being rude all the time to me and laughing at me. Shit made everything worse for me. They game me something to drink and also said to use some shots with I was scared of because of my break down. I declined in the calmest way possible in my mind despite my situation but they thought I was rude or something Mind don't work that way when in a situation like that and all of them failed to understand that. Pretty nasty place imo. Had to also wait 7 hours for my last ekg check back in April for other reason. Tf is wrong is with the people there? My 89-year-old Father had surgery yesterday for an aneurysm at St. Agnes hospital. I was very pleased with the care he received at St. Agnes. My surgery was scheduled for 7:30 AM. I arrived at 5:30 AM. At about 7:05, my name was called and I was taken back to undress. Although a paper gown with a heater was put on me, I was so cold that the nurses stuck me four times before a vein was found for the IV, but by then, the pre-op preparation was clearly behind schedule and I was a freezing pin cushion. Nearly 2 weeks before the scheduled surgery, I went for a type and cross-match blood workup at a lab located on the hospital campus. After the blood was drawn, I met with a nurse who reviewed my medications and history. I watched as she entered the data into a computer in the presence of myself and my daughter. I also completed extensive online registration, as requested. The actual start of surgery was delayed by more than half an hour because when the anesthesiologist came in and reviewed my chart, he stated, without confirming with me, that I have a condition called malignant hyperthermia and the set-up of the operating room was not correct. In fact, I had indicated to all concerned that there was a family history of pseudo cholinesterase deficiency. These two conditions are not the same. The anesthesiologist stormed out of the room. The surgery did not start until after 8:15 AM. read more

We were admitted to St Agnes and had been there for two days waiting on a simple blood test to decide next steps on a serious health condition . They did a gazillion tests, but ultimately discharged us- basically kicked us out--saying they didn't know when results of this last test would be in so no reason to stay. I would agree but we were waiting on a serious surgery matter. My husband's issue was dangerous, yet they told us to see his primary care doctor five days later! Calling to confirm this was correct, the new doctor said to go to a different ER immediately- to which we were admitted right away and have surgery scheduled. St. Agnes felt dirty, and very uncomfortable and uninviting. When I asked what they would have done if test came back before they kicked us out? They would've transported him by ambulance to the new hospital because 1) it was too serious a condition to not transport by ambulance, and 2) they couldn't do the surgery since it was out of network (this was the first time hearing this!)! Instead, without knowing test result they released him to me to drive home on my own (after a snow storm mind you) and made appt for followup five days later. Funny thing, apparently they did receive test result "right after" we left... hmmmm. Never again. Beware. We had one nurse that was excellent-- the rest... nope! read more

They took my 91 year Mom hear from a nursing for a gash in her elbow from a fall. After siting with her for 6 hours on the waiting room, they said it would be another 4 hours before she probably would be seen. We left I took her to urgent care. No compassion for someone 91. My boyfriend was not allowed to see our daughter in January 2022 when he was in the lobby trying to get to me . His wallet was stolen so he didn't have his ID but he had a copy of his birth certificate, a copy of the police report and he is listed in my hospital records as my emergency contact. He was peaceful and the security team in the lobby of the hospital was aggressive and one of them called him a terrorist as he walked away. We are extremely upset. I think he was targeted because he has an accent and is from Trinidad. We have been at the hospital on a regular basis for my prenatal appts and was never asked for ID when entering in the same lobby. Also he watched a caucasian man be allowed up to see his spouse give birth and no ID was asked of that individual. read more

St. Agnes Hospital has the Best Team members. On 4/30/21, I went to the Emergency Room and received the best experience ever. Kara Utter who works in the ER saved my life! She did not just complete standard procedures. She went the distance for me. When she came into my room she told assured me that she was going to make sure I was going to be okay. Morgan my nurse in the ER made me laugh and smile by making fun filled jokes and attending to me the best way she could. Sara and Alex they were my nurses on the 4th floor. I must say they were exceptional. They took good care of me, and assured me that I was in good care. I appreciated everything they did for me. They are truly super hero's in my book. Catherine Malone who did my ultrasound was spectacular! She talked to me and gave me positive feedback ever step of the way. She reassured me that I will be okay. I came to the right place. (The ER is the only reason I don't give this hospital 5 stars) My mother (76) was rushed to the ER due to a bad UTI. She sat in the waiting room for 4 hours before she was brought to the back. We were seen by the doctor whose name was Meagan. She was very compassionate and informative. We were told my mother had Sepsis and was going to be admitted into the hospital. At 1pm we were again placed in a waiting area to wait for a room. A couple of hours went by and my mom was getting sicker and it was hard for her to move around. Someone from the medical team yelled her name, and wanted us to come to the back so she could give blood. I asked the tech for a wheel a chair bc my mother had trouble walking due to being weak, the tech got an attitude and said that there wasn't and chair and she was NOT going to come out to the waiting area to draw the blood. The tech left and my mother slowly got up and said she could walk.We slowly walked over. The people in the waiting room couldn't believe how bad the tech's attitude was and how she didn't even care about the wellbeing of my mother. We sat in the ER waiting area (my mom was hooked up with and IV) for 7 hours before my mother got a room. We were told for 3 hours her room was ready they were just waiting for transport to take her. Meanwhile my mother is sick under 4 blankets shivering. At 8:30pm we were taken to her room. Once my mother was in her room the hospital staff were wonderful to my mother. Shout out to Dante and Francis for taking amazing care of my mom on her worst night. St. Agnes your ER HAS TO DO BETTER. Some human beings that go there really need your help, they're not there to get a quick fix. read more

Went to the ER yesterday. The front desk asked me to spell out my name and then write it. The triage station had an aid with 10 inches of her butt out of her scrub pants sitting taking vitals. I needed an EKG, so was called into a dirty room with dust balls and leftover stickers from previous patients on a loveseat/ bench. I NEVER saw a doctor and the PA never introduced herself. She just asked walked in, and then asked when the symptoms began. While I waited for test results they sat me in a cold corridor on a chair. The hospital was dirty and the staff was cold as well as unprofessional. I did t even want to get too close to the dust while taking a chest X-ray. Never again! read more

a couple of weeks ago, i experienced incredible pain in my lower right back and asked my wife to take me to St. agnes ER. I knew something was not right. i got there at 8:45pm and checked in, they did tests right away and then i sat in the waiting room for 4 hours and then moved into a room in er and sat there another 2 hours. No one came to check my pain in six hours, i saw no doctors or nurses about my health. i found out later i was passing a kidney stone (my first one). After six hours and no medical attention I left and went home. St agnes is closet to my house, but next time i will travel to a better hospital and experience. St agnes is a terrible experience, if you can avoid save yourself and do it. they have a small poster in the room I was in. it states that as a patient in the ER you can expect excellent care and frequent visits from our staff. Went to visit my mother on Christmas and the front rent a cops wouldn't let me because it wasn't 11. I work the night shift and was trying to see her before I had to go to sleep and go back to work. Labor and Delivery here is great, I was very happy with my hospital experience using Kaiser (one of two affiliated hospitals in the area besides GBMC). Before delivery we took some of their classes including the all day birthing class, infant CPR, and a tour. There were always snacks and it was always a positive experience, including a little graduation after the birthing class where they give you a baby hat hand knit by one of the nurses. All the hospital staff was great, almost all of the nurses. With 20 hours of labor and a 48 hr post partum stay you certainly meet a lot of staff. For the most part all the nurses were wonderful, some even fantastic. Comfortable and spacious rooms for both delivery and postpartum, with cable TV, huge windows, pullout couches for partners, and your own bathroom. I do wish there were bathtubs to labor in though. Food was surprisingly great, with two choices for each meal. Cafeteria is okay too, though always seems closed. Considering people are often here 24 hours, I don't understand why the cafeteria isn't open for dinner. If you miss lunch you're stuck with Subway or vending machines. Post delivery, I love the weekly lactation group on Mondays. I generally appreciated the lactation support after delivery, but Vicky is particularly wonderful in encouraging your breastfeeding and giving pointers. A nice way to connect with other new moms. Feels like a funny thing to review a hospital, but hey I would definitely deliver here again! read more

To echo previous reviewers, it IS alarming just how dirty this hospital is. I've watched multiple patients carry their fresh urine samples from the communal bathroom in the waiting room throughout the entire lobby asking nurses where to put their samples. The bathroom floor is covered in dark foot prints and the sign on the bathroom door shows that is hasn't been cleaned in the past 2 days (though I'd guess that it had NEVER been cleaned). I also got to witness a gaggle or nurses loudly talk about how they lost a baggie of urine samples. They later found it on top of a random cart but I think it's a bit troubling that these nurses can just lose bags of bodily fluids, I wonder if they were all licensed in Florida ? read more

I wouldn't send my worst enemy to this hospital. My boyfriend was hospitalized there for a week with appendicitis, and his needs were definitely not met. At one point in the ER, I said his whole body felt cold, and they said that I was just comparing him to how he felt when he had a fever. I told them that I was comparing that to how he feels every time I touch him, as he runs warm. When he was finally moved out of the ER and up to the 5th floor, he said he felt dehydrated (he wasn't hooked up to an IV at that point), and they blew him off. A few hours later, a nurse came in with an IV bag, put it down, said she'd be back and was gone for 50 minutes! I could even hear them socializing down the hall. There's zero communication as well. When he was finally out of surgery, they didn't tell me and his parents that he was being moved all over the hospital until we asked where he was and why it was taking so long to get him up to his room. Then, one night his blood pressure was 183/121, and he kept coughing and throwing up black stuff that looked like coffee grounds. After this happened the second time, I begged a nurse to bring a doctor up here, as I was scared out of my mind, and she said that she paged the doctor, and the doctor said that he was fine. They weren't worried about his blood pressure, "because he's 30." Yes, he's 30, but he is also over weight and just had major surgery. Eventually, when the doctors came on their rounds, they agreed that something was wrong and put an NG tube down his throat, but that process could have been started 8 hours earlier had I been listened to. His last evening in the hospital, around dinnertime, the doctor ordered a CAT scan for the next day, just to check for blood clots as a precaution. The next day, he was fed breakfast, pumped full of water all day, got his IV changed to accommodate the CAT scan (so all the nurses knew this was happening) and given lunch. At the end of lunch, a nurse came in and said that he can't eat for 4 hours before the CAT scan. It's not like this was just ordered, the doctor ordered the CAT scan 18 hours earlier, and the nurses didn't bother to abide by the most basic of rules about CAT scans. The icing on the cake, however, was the fact that you basically can't use the water there. There might be some sort of horribly dangerous (and possibly deadly) bacteria in the water, so you can't use it to bathe, brush your teeth, wash your face or even drink. What kind of hospital can't have running water!? It's absolutely ridiculous! Do yourself a favor, save yourself so much stress and headaches and go anywhere but this hospital. It's just not worth it, they don't know what they're doing here. read more

After pleading with my ,74 year old, mom for two weeks to visit the ER to get treatment for a condition that was worsening with every failed home treatment, she couldn't take the pain anymore and said yes to going. The latest hospital report confirmed what we had first hand experience with- a long wait time in the ER. So I threw her Gatorade and saltine crackers in the bag of reading materials and headed to St. Agnes on Thursday, May 23rd. She was registered at approximately 615pm and wasn't seen in the back until 12:11 am the next day. I guess there was rush once I remindEd the front desk that my mom was a home dialysis patient and needed to start her treatment. Overall we encountered 9 care partners during our lengthy wait and of this number only one partner did not give my mother a high level of standard of care. Unfortunately, this was the nurse who was assigned to her room 305. The nurse gave commands without compassion, was dismissive of the severity of her condition, gave looks of disdain to us and the doctor, I even had to locate a chair for my mother to transport her after discharge. On our way out, the nurse was sitting at her work station obviously not looking for the requested chair, and I speculate that's where she was when we waited for the discharge papers and needed to hit the nurse button on the remote. We visit this hospital on more than enough occasions and believe in the efforts of the staff and care providers, but it only takes one person to leave a stain of distrust and disappointment. This nurse's disconnect from the hospital's core values make the other care partners like Dr. Jin, phlebotomist-the best!, and security guard, Hezekiah. Work that more harder to reduce patient anxiety. Kudos to them. This overall rating also includes the failed practice of hand hygiene of every care partner that walked into her room. I noticed the new poster in the room and maybe this change is still evolving, but soooo necessary to change the overall perception of the hospital as being a place of doom and death due to infection acquired at the hospital. read more

Horrible experience! I was first admitted to St. Agnes in 2017. It was pretty decent experience that time. Then the same situation with a strong need for hospitalization happened in March 2021. 7 hours of wait time in waiting room for the person brought by ambulance with bothersome symptoms and not being able to be seen by anyone was ridiculously unacceptable. Several times I tried to ask WHEN? However, I was told that 7 hours of waiting is normal there. Eventually, at about 4:00 am after 7 hours of waiting and not receiving any medical attention my family took me back home. I will never ever go to that place again! read more

Do not go to this hospital they do not follow up with care the nursing care was excellent but the doctors were terrible. I have to go because it was 911 and the closest Hospital. I am a registered nurse the nursing care was wonderful but the doctors were horrible. I had a shattered shoulder and 3 Fractures in my spine. I am a crime pain patient anyway and they kept taking away my pain medication I was in agony but no one would listen. Please avoid this hospital if any way possible. On a normal day I am an 100 MCG of fentanyl (patch) & 4mg Of dilaudid Every 4 hours as needed hear it they took me down to 2 mg every 8 hours with these fresh injuries to my shoulder and spine that is just unconscionable.. read more

Wait times are inordinately long; 6+ hour waits are not uncommon, and the term 'healthcare' is at best a euphemism- more like indifference, or even a passive aggressive hostility. You likely won't see a person that manifests care until the doctor comes down 5 hours into your visit. Even then, don't get your hopes up for any helpful treatment. Our family has made two trips to the emergency room in the last 13 months and for the most part walked out with prescriptions for OTC medicines (eg, ibuprofen, anti nausea) without actually addressing the reason we visited the emergency room in the first place. If this is your first option for urgent care, my advice is to drive on, or plan ahead by taking a first aid course. read more

My father knew he had a ruptured aneurism and we went to the ER at St. Agnes. He was mis-triaged as merely an old man with a headache. Our awful ER nurse, Viola, laughed at him when he said to take a picture of his brain, and kept telling us how busy she was. The whole time his brain was bleeding, and he knew it. When they changed shifts, and we got a real nurse finally, she knew immediately what to do and took my Dad to get a CT. The CT showed exactly what my Dad thought and Viola laughed at; a ruptured aneurism. He was taken to U of Maryland Shock Trauma, and they are hopefully going to be able to save his life. St Agnes is awful - and I highly recommend going elsewhere for your medical care. read more
