And after all that, the food was mediocre -- we paid around $50 for it. The one genuine positive was the view of the water, which was stunning. Lubec is a long way out of the way for most people -- the appeal is being the easternmost point in the US, with genuinely lovely scenery. But that's exactly what makes this frustrating: this restaurant knows most visitors are here once, won't be back, and have limited other options nearby. It's hard not to feel like that's being taken advantage of rather than earning the visit. Wouldn't rush back, and if I were traveling through again, I'd look elsewhere.

They have a lovely Spanish grenache as well as a crisp Pouilly-Fuisse that we pretty much lived off of. In addition, they have lots of excellent specialty cheeses to offer, and will give you samples to try while you shop. The brewery and restaurant building was originally a sawmill and both the dining room and bar are chock-full of antique tools, artifacts and photos reflecting its storied past. There is a cozy sitting/dining area between the entrance and the bar, with a couple of tables, comfy chairs and a sofa near the fireplace. The other 2/3 of the room consists of a larger dining area with more tables, a dart board and TV. And did I say every square foot of wall space is filled with reminders of Maine woods history? Well worth a visit, and if you are into ATVs or snowmobiles, Airline Brewing is easily accessible from a state ATV trail.
