Attended Sunday service here last week, and while we liked the overall dignity and affirming vibe, just be prepared for high Anglo-Catholic experiences, with lots of incense and bells. Still in the "back to the congregation" altar orientation, with a very traditional (British) layout with the choir stalls flanking the walk up to the altar. Sort of an "orthodox" style crucifix dominating the nave gives you your first clue about the style here. So very traditional Episcopal church in the high orientation, with a welcoming, diverse congregation. Sermon was heavy on the lecture format, less so on the inspirational level. Probably visit a different parish (like All Saint's in Pasadena) next time we're in the area, but appreciated the experience for a once in a while type of Sunday service. read more

What a beautiful church located on northern Brand Blvd in Glendale. I love stopping by whenever Im in the area. So peaceful, the gardens are beautiful during the spring months. Lots of benches all around to sit and pray or meditate. The interiors are gorgeous . So calming and quiet. Light a candle and say a prayer... I have never been to their Sunday service but maybe in the future I will. : : praying for world peace .... read more

I just stopped by to visit St. Mark's Church. It has change a wee bit since I left for college in 1963. I had been an acolyte for several years, and still have the Rector's Cross awarded by Father Parlour in 1958. My wife and I came to the church in 1981 with our son. He was baptized there. My parents still lived in Glendale. The St. Mark's organ music instilled a love for J.S. Bach which still exists. Unfortunately, my wife and I will probably never be able to return to California. We now live in Washington State. We are both over 80. The memories of having served there are the reason I appreciate the beauty of churches and cathedrals both here in America and Europe. It is heart warming to see the church is doing well. My parents and grandparents are buried in Glendale's Forest Lawn. read more

Saint Mark's Episcopal Church in Glendale is such a comforting and safe place to practice my Christian faith in LA. My wife and I have been attending for almost 3 years and call this place home. This parish truly cares for its community and the surrounding neighborhood and the world at large. From its generosity in donating to local and global organizations to creating a beautiful and inviting space with open doors all week long so locals to come inside for a time of prayer and reflection and maybe to light a candle. At a Sunday mass you will be transported to Oxford, England with the beautiful pipe organ, talented choir, Anglican chant, stain glass windows, candles, incense, and lovely homilies. After the service I love to grab a cup of coffee and a Yum Yum donut and chat with the broad spectrum of folks that attend Saint Mark's. Kids are playing foosball and ping ping, while 30 and 40 somethings chat with long time elderly members in the parish hall or under the trees in the gorgeous courtyard. If you are looking for a safe church to explore your faith no matter what stage you are in, then I highly recommend Glendale's Saint Mark's Episcopal Church. read more

I have been to Saint Mark's Church maybe 4 times. Each time I went there, I felt God's presence and power in me and a special invitation from our LORD calling me to step into the church. Sit quietly. Pray, wanted to light a candle, but somehow they were out of candles. So I go home and light my candles at home. Later, I visit the beautiful garden next to the church and enjoy the simplest things in life. Trees, flowers, the beautiful cross, the water fountain, couple of the statues, benches and look up to see the bright shining stars in the beautiful, blue clear sky. Most importantly I try to meditate after all the chaos that is happening in our world. If I lived in Glendale, I would definitely visit this divine, beautiful, holy church more often to find PEACE and tranquility. I would love to attend mass here once if and when I happen to be in Glendale in the morning. I usually go here right after my dentist appointment which is around 3pm. Love everything about this beautiful church that is so sacred to me:))) read more

The loud organ music drowns out the choir. If you don't mind not hearing the choir, then the mass is well performed.

Updating my Yelp review to say that, 7 years later, St. Mark's has remained such a wonderful community of people devoted to Jesus and practicing his sacrificial love, and has continued to grow after the pandemic! I just can't say enough good things about this special place. read more

I'm so grateful for this sweet little church in my neighborhood. I like to meditate in their garden, and sometimes come by for their weekday morning services or just to light a candle and say a little prayer. They're a little more traditional compared to All Saints in Pasadena, but just as inclusive. (I really wish they weren't building a hotel right across from it - ugh). read more

I joined St. Mark's about two years ago when I was looking for a parish closer to my home in Pasadena. I'm very happy to have found this place, and would encourage anyone to attend once or twice and give it a shot. First, there are some things I don't love, and you'd be served by getting those out of the way first. The people at St. Mark's are fairly happy keeping to themselves most of the time, so don't expect effusive greetings. The positive side of this is that there will be no awkward requests to stand up in the middle of announcements. Have questions? Want to talk to someone over coffee after the service? Find anyone with a name tag and say hello. The children's care during the Sunday service leaves some to be desired as well. The youth group and Sunday school are great, but the young 'uns are just supervised in the preschool rooms. It's fine, it's just not amazing. It's not really a program so much as very minimalist babysitting. Worship is a high Episcopal liturgy. It looks very Catholic, incense and icons and all that. It's really quite beautiful. The congregation is a warm one, and very welcoming to everyone (again, no one will bug you when you visit if you don't want, but introduce yourself and you're in for it). If you are looking for an Episcopal church on Yelp! then you probably already know what that means about our theology and our social witness. There are occasional Christian education classes to take part in, and a number of music events each month. The clergy are intelligent and kind and a good example of priests and deacons. I first came to St. Mark's for my children, the Sunday School program is wonderful. I stayed at first for the music and beauty of the church and garden and later because it became a home away from home. I am so grateful for the people and programs that make St. Mark's offers. Since moving from Glendale CA to Northern Virginia we have not been able to match the warmth, fellowship and spiritual learning experience that we were given at St. Marks. From day one you will be accepted as a member of St. Mark's. Rev. Mark could not be more gracious and godly in the manner in which he leads his church. As a added bonus the music and the beautiful gothic revival building is truly inspirational and served greatly in enhancing everyone's worship. read more
