MUST READ.... I wanted to start the review with acknowledging just a few of the many exceptional staff we were fortunate to have interacted with. Dr Rachel Neff, Dr Franz, Kimberly Thompson, Dr Matthew Koster, and Eva Carmona are few that come to mind as being extraordinary in their fields of expertise. But unfortunately I feel an overwhelming obligation to share my Moms overall experience with Saint Marys hospital and Doctor Kalra, and Dr Silva. With the intension of hopefully helping others with unique cases like my Moms by sharing what we have learned. We realized early on that my Mom's Autoimmune Pulmonary Fibrosis was extremely sensitive to any types of stress, resulting in flare-ups and repeated hospitalizations. After years of continual monitoring we realized low oxygen even for short periods of time put Her body under a tremendous amount of stress creating inflammation, resulting in increased oxygen needs, elevated resting heartrate, and hospitalization (flare-up). So to extend time between flare-ups we implemented strict oxygen monitoring and titratration to maintain Her oxygen 93-95. Which has proven over the years to be Her healthy range. High enough to avoid an inflammatory response but low enough to not elevate Co2 levels. For us, strict oxygen management was the most impactful treatment validated by the few years of continuous oxygen monitoring data we have stored in the cloud. For Her low oxygen is like treading water, putting Her already weakened system under continual stress resulting in inflammation and increased heartrates. While in the hospital I know I ruffled feathers by continually mentioning this and was told I was worried too much about the numbers and should just go by how you feel. My Mom doesn't get really winded until Her oxygen drops really low, into the low 70s, which we try to avoid because we have repeatedly seen the negative results. Even one crash to the low 70s has doubled Her oxygen flow needs, and increased Her resting heartrates over 100 without the ability to come down without high doses of Prednisone. While dropping to 88 for short periods of time, for a few minutes, usually while recovering from activity doesn't result in any negative effects. Extended periods of time clearly does. It was extremely difficult to have our learned experience be repeatedly dismissed by Dr Karla, and Dr Silva. When bringing my concerns to Dr Kalra He said oxygen levels at 85 for hours isn't dangerous, and that people in the Himalayas have low oxygen their entire lives. As a life long runner, I explained that is actually incorrect. People living at elevation adapt by producing more red blood cells which is the bodies way to maintain healthy oxygen saturation levels similar to us. Which infuriated Him. It was so frustrating seeing my Moms oxygen levels regularly in the mid 80s, and referring to it as weening. The best way to ween my Mom's oxygen is by maintaining 93-95, which is what we returned to after discharge and without that stress on Her system Her flow rate came down on it's own. She returned to Her 4 liter baseline and it has remained that way for the last 2 months. This was the first hospitalization when low oxygen practices were used on Her and was also by far Her longest stay 41 days. She was admitted on 8 liters in the middle of a flare-up and eventually discharged on 7 liters with resting heartrates 90-110, still in flare-up. She also experienced erratic heartrate arrhythmia, chest pain and tightness during Her hospitalization for the first time but hasn't experienced it since discharge. We have the data to prove She was maintained a majority of the time in the 80s from our personal continous oxygen data logger. And daily pictures of our monitor numbers matching their monitor. Theirs was a visio logger that often had a dead battery for hours a day. So She was often unmonitored except for our personal logger. I was continually going to the nurses station begging them to turn up Her oxygen and noticed on their monitor once Her room number showed She was currently 81 oxygen but it wasn't red or in alarm. Apparently they were annoyed by my Mom's oxygen alarm continually going off so turned off Her alarm rather than turn up Her oxygen. Dr Kalara just repeatedly got angry when I attempted to communicate these concerns. Even more concerning is the repeated false reporting in my Moms clinical notes that our data, pictures, and time can prove was false. I was there and maintain meticulous documentation. I even reached out to patient experience with my concerns and realized rather quickly they weren't really interested in ways to improve the safety of patients or the integrity of reporting. More a coordinated effort of further suppressing and covering up legitimate concerns. When they found out I had proof I was told I wouldn't be able to visit in the future. Please stay with your family, advocate, monitor, document. read more

Saint Marys Hospital - Perfect Example - Hospitals Near Me - Rochester, Minnesota

A broken bone left me feeling forced to go to the ER. The attending physician was good in that he found the fracture, even though the radiologist said there was none. They left a resident to set my bone, but he was very sleepy and very poorly trained. He was not supervised while doing it, and he made three major mistakes. Though I didn't realize it at the time, I told him three things that should have prompted him not to make those mistakes, but he made them anyway. I pointed out an area of pain after he finished setting the area, but he just glanced at it and threw his hands up as though he was upset that I mentioned it. Then, he stared at my face, unresponsive. I'd been calm and patient throughout, but bizarre behavior concerned me. I didn't feel safe with his trance-like gaze and lack of response to the pain. I had told him it would have to be fixed before I left, but he refused. He could have called in his attending physician, but he didn't. He was ready to discharge me with an improperly set bone that ignored three significant precautions he should have taken. Since I was exhausted and sleepy, I told him it was fine so I could get out of there and seek care somewhere else. If I had been more rested, I would have insisted that he bring in the attending physician. Instead, I simply let them discharge me with an improperly set bone, in pain, and went home. When I got home, I found the problem. I made e a temporary fix myself, waiting for my family to come home 14 hours later to help me make a better one. Then I returned to the hospital to have the bad splint cut off, with the standard procedures followed, the precautions taken, and the problem fixed. Until I did that, the first one was unsanitary and caused intense itching from bacterial overgrowth as he'd not sanitized the area; there were bloody abrasions in an area not close to the broken bone, and there was swelling from him jamming two body parts tightly together without precautions. The resident clearly had no idea what he was doing, as the situation was not complex. All he had to do was properly sanitize the area, protect a specific area from abrasion after swelling began to subside, and prepare the area so that no collateral damage was caused by the way he set the bone. He did none of that, though I had pointed out those three issues. Instead of getting help to find the cause of the pain, something I was able to do myself at home, he simply wrote that I had experienced a psychological problem. I looked that up, and I had displayed ZERO symptoms of that or any other psychological problem. He just used that as an excuse not to address the pain his very poor performance caused. When I talked to the surgeon about addressing that baseless diagnosis, the surgeon blew it off, though he easily could have told the resident to address it, especially since my having to replace the splint quickly left plenty of evidence that his bad performance was the issue. The surgeon then tried to dismiss me from physical therapy after only one session, though I was unable to use that part of my body, it was mangled-looking, and there was intense pain and immobility in a large area. I did everything as directed. Rather than investigating, the surgeon laughed it off, saying, "No pain, no gain!" He dismissed me without addressing that area and without my having full functioning of my body part. The records said I did, but that was absolutely not true. I had to read medical literature on my own and use kitchen utensils to try to fix the affected areas, and it was painful. Because of the delay in diagnosing the large areas of many thick and painful adhesions (with me having to self-diagnose) and because I'm not a medical professional, there was no way for me to get them addressed well by myself. I did the best I could, but years later, I'm still unable to straighten that area or use it normally. In fact, it caused limited blood flow, and I had to figure out on my own how to improve it. Two areas shriveled over the years due to inadequate blood flow caused by undiagnosed adhesions. To top it off, that surgeon was supposed to send approval for transportation since I couldn't drive with the fracture, but he repeatedly failed to do so, leaving me stranded and suspected of fraud by my insurance company. In one appt, he made grotesque faces and wildly waved his arms while speaking in a nicer tone than usual. That was after a badgeless man who claimed to be a doctor came in his place and asked me inappropriate questions for the situation, claiming the surgeon was not there. To top it off, a surprise phone appointment with the surgeon featured him slurring his words the entire time. Very unprofessional all around. Not exactly what you'd expect from someone paid 7 figures every year. read more

i can't say enough positive things about this facility. The facility is well maintained and clean. All staff is kind and courteous. The facility has clear, easy to read directional signage. They are also many people posted throughout the hospital to assist you with directions et all. Everyone from receptionist to surgeons are happy to help and answer questions that we have had and seem to honestly care. They focus on communication. Mayo Clinic-Rochester, including the Saint Mary's Campus, is consistently one of the top ranked hospitals in the nation across most specialties. Their commitment to the highest quality care combined with top notch technology and staff has drawn celebrities, presidents, and royals to choose this facility for treatment, but in my experience hospital staff treats each patient like a VIP. This was evident from day one in the case of my family's experience here. We knew my grandmother was in the best hands when she was transported to Saint Mary's in August. The attentive nurses on the 5th floor of the Mary Brigh building administered palliative care with empathy and dignity, keeping her as comfortable as possible in her last days. Communication regarding pain management and procedures was timely, sensitive, and given in layman's terms. The nurses also went out of their way to make sure that we family members had everything we needed...even if it was just "awful coffee" (per the nurse) in the middle of the night. Hey, you can't be choosy when you need your caffeine STAT! PARKING -- Two underground parking ramps connect to the St. Mary's campus--the Mary Brigh Ramp, 1216 Second St. SW, west of the main entrance; and the Generose Ramp, just east of Generose building. The parking fee is $2.00 for the first hour, and $1.00 for each additional hour. CAFETERIA -- Options include hot entrees, pizza, sandwiches, soups, a salad bar, desserts, and a breakfast menu. We ate there once, all ordering hamburgers. The burgers were fine and edible, all things cafeteria cuisine considered. Breakfast is served 7-10, lunch 11-l 2, and Dinner 4:45- 7. ASSESSMENT -- Upon examination, the St. Mary's Campus facility and staff live up to and exceed their reputation for excellence. Our annual visit to Saint Marys wasn't so great this year. Seems like something has changed in the past year. The whole visit was different. Felt like we were lied to by everyone there. Once in the room to wait for the surgery we were told the doctor would be in to speak to us. We could hardly understand his accent so his assistant had to say it in clearer english. The doctor didn't really answer any of our questions and just wanted to talk about lasers and blood transfusions. What? We were there for a simple balloon to stretch out the airways. Anyway, the only "good" part of the whole visit was the wait in that room was only 2 hours, versus 6 hours last year. The procedure was quick and the family was waiting to go to the recovery room like last year. Nope. Didn't get to go back until they wanted us to get her dressed. The older nurse in there was very nice and kept calling the doctor to come speak to us. The doctor said they didn't have to do anything because he didn't "think" it was bad enough. Really? When we didn't accept that as an answer he tried coming up with other reasons (that had NOTHING to do with the procedure) and finally left. We were baffled! A call the next day to speak to the doctor was even more baffling. The person who we were told was the doctor (by everyone) WASN'T! That was just one of his assistants and he (apparently the real doctor) doesn't talk to anyone during the day of the procedure. WHAT!?! That's the very last time we will be going to Mayo Clinic or Saint Mary's in Rochester. Now we're trying to schedule the procedure somewhere else before the airway completely closes. read more

My daughter 25yrs had major leg surgery straightening out her leg. Mary Briegh wing 8 west Nurses so far have been Becky, Bri , Tasha and another one i cant remember she had for 2hrs. Very helpful and friendly. Lets me come n go and very accomodating. 1st surgery in her life. Family rooms are comfortable but for sleeping not comfy. They need recliners up on 8th floor. My mother who already has dementia and Parkinson's fell and i brought her to the ER. Lie 1 These 'physical therapists' claim she is semi independent. How is some one semi independent when they need 100% percent supervision and assistance for the simplest tasks. Would not even put her in a temporary skilled nursing facility. Lie 2 claims nursing facilities are all full in the area. Lie three the hospital does not help out in finding long term care facilities.I will be getting second opinions. Although we are from the Chicago area, when my husband's epilepsy showed no signs of improving, and in fact it was worsening, after an unrelated brain surgery, we sought an institution with the best of the best. Upon consulting with a top-notch Mayo Clinic neurologist, Dr. Terrence Lagerlund, it was suggested that my husband be admitted for observation to St. Mary's Hospital, to the Video EEG Monitoring Unit. During the stay, he was wired up with 96 EEG electrodes (usually it's 32, but he was part of a research protocol), and they lowered his anti-epilepsy drugs, to see what his EEG looked like with seizure activity, and to pair his reported symptoms with his waveform. Long story short, he stayed eight nights, including one night in the neuro ICU (his seizure wouldn't stop once it began - emblematic of his problem). In the end, they recommended that he have more testing, and they later convened a conference of physicians to review his case for possible partial lobectomy surgery. He had the surgery a few months later with Dr. William Marsh, an esteemed Mayo Clinic neurosurgeon. The process was intricate and painstaking, but we felt we had to take the chance, to possibly cure the epilepsy. But we weren't going to take the chance with just anyone - I would only have my loved one's brain in the hands of a surgeon with an international reputation. Several months after that, he was admitted back to the Video EEG unit, for further surveillance while weaning off one of the anti-epilepsy drugs. The nice thing about the Video EEG unit, lodging for me - no hotel! It's not a Hilton, but there is a fold-out bed, and you may even use a shower and laundry, plus you can order food to the room for a nominal fee (and the food ain't half-bad!) or go to a nearby cafe. The free WiFi works well. The amazing thing about this hospital is the near-perfect consistently among the staff. Medical mistakes kill more people per year than car accidents in the United States, so a hospital with a true culture of patient safety is key. Mayo-St. Mary's has very high safety ratings, and I believe that the nursing staff are so well trained and so on the same page as one another, that it results in a superlative experience both as a patient and as a guest. They are kind and conforming in behavior, without a regimented feeling. They treat you like they might bump into you at the grocery store later on. Everyone seems to enjoy their work, whether clinical or housekeeping or food service. A couple tips: if the weather is good, visit the Peace Garden for a meditative break among the manicured garden. Everyone should take a trip to St. Mary's Chapel, which is beautiful and has a great history. Also, the library on one of the higher floors has many good books, or they lend games and activities, such as knitting needles and yarn. They hold diversions for patients and guests of all ages. So, I thank the nurses of St. Mary's Hospital, and all others I have encountered here, for caring for my husband as if he were family, and with the experience usually reserved for a VIP. This second chest tube was unnecessary and an act of ER doctor negligence. I said no to invasive lung surgery 9 years ago and I will say it again. When the ER doctors saw my collapsed lung, it is standard protocol to insert a chest tube. My right lung is normally collapsed due to my scoliosis. The ER doctors didn't bother to read through my medical file to know that. They freaked out and did another (unnecessary) chest tube. Now I will have two scars. I'm pretty pissed off at the doctors for not looking at my medical profile before they decided to do surgery. This is a repeat situation of what happened 9 years ago. The options to fix this condition have not changed and my answer has not changed. I will be filling a medical malpractice because of ER doctor negligence. My four star review would have been a five star had the admitting nurses had a heart and compassion. My son has a brain tumor and we were asked to be at the hospital at 6:30am check in. His doctor scheduled his biopsy for 10am. They prepped him and put him (and us) in a room with some chairs and one lounge chair for the patient. We WAITED FOR SIX HOURS IN A SMALL ROOM WITH A 24 year old young man waiting to have a hole drilled in his head without any anti-anxiety meds. When we called the "nurse communicator" to ask way we had been delayed for so long, she told us that "how should she know and for us to go ask the nurses" wow, great communicator. We promptly ripped up her business card and went and asked the nurses-- who looked like they couldn't give a shit that a young guy was waiting patiently for a brain biopsy. They were nasty and told us we could leave at any time. All we wanted was reason why the long wait. He was growing tired so they finally put him in a hospital room where he waited until 3:00pm for his biopsy. Now as crappy as the downstairs nurses were, the ICU nurses were FABULOUS! I can't say enough about the staff for Neuro ICU. Our neurosurgeon is one of the best and after the procedure, met with us with his initial impression. It's a busy hospital so be prepared to not find parking in the first lot unless you are there very early but there is a second parking lot you can find a place. If you're there a few times, there are five day parking passes to help defray the cost. Even longer if you need them and are good at all of the main parking garages. read more

I'm sure that it used to be a good hospital but like most hospitals now it is severely understaffed. I spent a night in the cardiac care unit and instead of "care" I was put in a bed with an alarm on it and told to lay there till 7 am. I assume this was because there was only one nurse for the entire unit. She was surly, uncaring and obviously didn't want to be bothered with me. This caused a back flair up that lasted for weeks. Mayo clinic is the most unique hospital I've ever visited and the most reputable one in the country. Its St Mary's Hospital is an extended branch of the Mayo clinic (one of the nurses told me they're trying to change the name to avoid confusion). The surgeons grafted nerves from my legs and put it in my shoulder the staff who took care of me were Jeff, Judy, and Jennalee are who took excellent care of me while I was inpatient whether its helping me out of bed, getting me more oxygen, pain meds, etc. read more

The er operates like some third world country hospital. Extensive wait. If you can't see people in a reasonable amount of time, offer a referral to Olmsted or Methodist. Maybe New Ulm even though it is a drive you would be seen sooner. read more

My husband drove me the 30miles down after I had fevers up to 106 and abdominal pain for 6 days. After being basically accused of lying when I gave them my name and address (evidently there is more than one person with my name). After I'm interrogated by 3 people who keep asking me if Ive lived at some address (that I haven't and have no idea what they are talking about) I am told I will have to present my DL when my husband returns from parking the car and am shoved in a corner. He returns, they don't care about my DL now?? I wait...no triage....no questions about my issues. Im in pain and a fever.no poop x 6 days -only burgundy mucus, and Im shoved in a corner, while 3 teenagers giggling check in and go right back, then one by one everyone who walks up to the window....... i threaten to walk out. then they have some nurse walk me back. Takes my bp and temp and gives me 2 tylenol and sends me back to the waiting room corner on my own. 2 hours later, I tell them to cut off the wrist band and I am going home. Desk tells me I was supposed to have labwork done an hour before, but I must have not responded. I told her that my husband was sitting right in front of the door. All Im told is "sorry hon"...."yep sorry hun" "youre free to leave. goodbye now" read more

We waited at Saint Marys Hospital emergency room for three hours. they got my husband in twice for vitals then they said they wanted to take some blood. so they did that out of his port. then they said it would take another four hours to see the doctor so we just wanted to go home but they had no idea how to care for his port so It can be usable again! I would think Mayo would be embarrassed to have their name on the front door! this is the worst Emergency room we've come across we've lived in four different states! The nursing staff is the most amazing experience we've had, in over 25 hospitalizations in the Seattle Area's 'best', it's amazing to be receiving healthcare the way it SHOULD be done...that's here @ Mayo. Additionally, they have been especially accomodating of my needs as a care-giver. My husband had outpatient surgery today 4/18/19 at St Mary's Hospital in Rochester. From the start of the preop process there were delays and redundant work flows. The check in area is for all surgical patients: Outpatients and Inpatients. The 1st preop nurse took some medical information and did a Blood Pressure. My husband remained in street clothes and and we had to go back to the 1st waiting room for another hour and a half. A new set of staff came to get my husband and me and we went into a different preop area. He was given a Bear Hugger gown and told to change, however he was never hooked up to the heated Bear Hugger the whole time. They disappeared and we waited some more. Finally the 1st nurse we saw came in to ask more questions and bring him the pillows we requested. She was the most friendly staff member we had the whole day. The pre op nurse never started an IV because apparently St. Mary's doesn't have the preop nurses start them. This is an unusual practice. St. Mary's has an IV team that has to be called to start the pre op IVs. So another unnecessary delay and inefficient practice. We then waited for an anesthetist and the surgeon to come by. After we saw these two, we waited some more and finally a Resident came in to say it was time for surgery, however he needed an RN to come back in, log into the computer and ask my husband again if he had any allergies. Nothing had changed in his medical history since we first checked in, so this was a puzzling practice. So finally he was ready to go to surgery but the Resident didn't have helpers so he tangled with the door to get the cart through. At that point, I was sent with my husband's bag of belongings to the 1st waiting area and told to find a locker for his stuff. I did that and left to find the cafeteria to get some coffee. Unlike other preop settings we have been to over the years, there was no complimentary coffee available for family members while they waited. Once I got back to the 1st waiting area, I was told to get my husband's belongings and to wait for someone to come and get me and take me to another waiting area. A staff member brought me to the "Joseph area" where the recovery would be. She took my husband's bag of belongings and placed them into one of the closets in a double room. I was then shown two options for waiting rooms. We had arrived at St Mary's at 10:45 am and surgery was to be at 12:30pm. He went into surgery around 2 pm and went to the 1st recovery room around 4 pm. So just like there are more than one waiting rooms, there are also 2 different recovery areas. I received progress texts about my husband's surgery. When the text page came that said my husband was in recovery, I wondered how the surgeon was going to find me to tell me how the procedure went. I decided I should find the outpatient surgery desk and ask. The way finding signs are not very clear by the way. At that point I was paged overhead on the loud speaker. I talked to the surgeon at the Outpatient desk. (I have to say we have no complaints about the surgeon). He then told me it would be an hour in the 1st recovery and then my husband would come to the second recovery room. This is also an unusual practice.My husband stayed in the second recovery area ( the double room) for another 45 minutes. He was wheeled down to the valet parking area. He was left near the door in a wheelchair while I paid for parking. The transport person did not wait with him while I was gone. Once we were on the road for our 75 minute ride home, my husband rolled up his sleeve because he felt warm and saw the the IV had not been removed by the nurse. I called the Outpatient surgery desk in the Joseph area when we got home to inform them of the IV not being removed prior to discharge. They said they would document it but there were no real alarm bells or apologies. I removed the IV and put a compression dressing on it. This final incident was very concerning as it speaks to a lack of accuracy and adherence to professional practice standards This was our first time at St. Mary's. I had higher expectations because of their affiliation with Mayo but both of us were disappointed. There were so many inefficiencies and delays but also a major lack of communication. We were impressed with our surgeon and our first preop nurse and that is about it. Process improvement is needed and lessons in compassionate care giving. read more

this truly is the best hospital in the country. gastrointestinal issues are their specialty and their surgeons are seriously miracle workers! i live in minneapolis and my mom traveled from PA after most hospitals and doctors were not familiar with the rare condition she has. luckily mayo clinic has incredible experience with the condition and they were able to perform a very intricate surgery to remove an aggressive tumor from her intestines and artery. i can not thank them enough for their care and helpfulness for waiting families and the dedication these folks have for every single patient that walks through their door! amazing place! read more

For a hospital associated with the Mayo and it's extraordinary reputation, I am very shocked at the lack of attention and care at Saint Mary's Hospital. Regardless of the age of the building, I would think that a Mayo related facility would have superior patient care. However, I observed the lack of care I saw of my dear and elderly relative while staying as a patient with cancer. She was left to take care of her own needs, and had no communication with doctors or nursing staff until I became directive and followed up at every pain medication time and insisted, very politely, on information and help. I haven't been very impressed so far. Came in after a car accident, CT scans came back negative, was free to go. Discovered after seeing someone at Olmstead's Urgent Care that actually I have a concussion. Started maybe having seizures, was directed back to the ER. Waited for 8 hours for same scans I'd had done five days previous--negative again! Shocker. Waited ANOTHER three hours to be seen by a Neurology specialist, who finally got around to checking my chart and decided, hey, no need to see me after all! Now today I've been calling to try to get in touch with Neurology to schedule the one test I DO need to check for seizures, and they never received the right form from the ER! The ER has no record of a request for that test. Everyone was nice, sure. The social worker was very competent and kind. Neither the member of Neurology nor the member of Psychiatry called for consults bothered to come in to talk to me directly, or even to apologize for telling me I literally could not leave before they saw me--then deciding, three hours later, they couldn't be bothered. The only doctor I saw during all this time performed the same basic neurology exam [45 seconds long] that the medical student had performed. He hit against my chest in the process--hopefully an accident, but either way, he obviously needs to be more careful when dealing with female patients. All of this is after I started shaking when first seen, and one of the doctors asked if I might be having a seizure--an event that apparently did not get notated in my chart, nor was I told I should follow up specifically about it. The only saving grace so far was how kind all the nurses were. Even the lady who transported me to CT was very nice, and definitely engaging. The people working in CT were also very nice to me, and obviously trying to engage with patients. After I called and complained to the woman working the desk in Neurology, she managed to speak with someone in the ER to get my paperwork figured out for an EEG--the test necessary to determine if a patient is having a seizure. I'm grateful to her, but very frustrated that I had to wait in the ER for 9 hours before I could get the test ordered that I really needed. This is just a terrible system. If I need to be tested for seizures, that should be the top priority--not redoing tests I just had a week ago, or getting bloodwork done that probably won't show anything related to seizure activity. I should have been referred to Neurology as soon as I checked in. There's no excuse for making me wait all that time to find out nothing. The medical student, ironically, was more on top of things and much more willing to engage with me than any of the actual doctors at Mayo. That's a major problem, but I'm thrilled for the patients she'll have once she's a doctor. One more note--a patient coming in for seizure-like symptoms should not be referred to Psychiatry unless there is major evidence of psychiatric symptoms. I'm incredibly frustrated with being told that I might simply be having an emotional reaction or an anxiety attack when I'm having real physical symptoms that anyone would be concerned about.Yes, obviously the body and mind are connected, but when I go to a hospital I want to be seen for my physical symptoms. If I wanted help with my PTSD or anything else related to mental health, I would take steps in that direction. I deserve better than to be treated like someone who cannot cope with their life or is having severe issues with mental illness. Having a diagnosis of a mental illness does not make me less deserving of adequate medical care, but too often, inadequate medical care is what I get. If Mayo seriously wants to become the world's leading center for medical care, they have a long way to go. read more

This is one of the best hospitals we have been to. My daughter is admitted right now has been here for about a week and the staff has been nothing but nice to her. We LOVE child life they are so awesome and complete life savers for us. The only reason I am giving them a 4 star is because my daughter is in isolation and the kitchen staff refused to even knock on the door to tell her her food was upstairs, they just set it outside her door and we would wonder where it was only to go out to the hall and fit it sitting on the cart, cold! :( read more

I got a heart valve on Tuesday afternoon and was discharged on Friday. Dr Burkhart is a fine surgeon and probably one of the best in the world! His crew joked with me about getting a wild bore hog valve as I had requested. The nurses on duty came running when I need something. At dinner friday nite, my wife and I wondered if we had dreamed that I had a heart valve replaced. "Beca" was my main R.N. She was the absolute best that anyone could ask for! I was in unit 5-F. This is Monday and I feel pretty darn good! Go to the Mayo if you can! read more

The level of care by all the staff was unbelievable ! My doctors were excellent ! Thank you for everything !!!!

I was put in the Hospital here and had very rude nurses at the beginning had a shared room with a person whose machine went off the whole entire night nothing was done until I had to get management involved and insisted I have a different room then finally got my own room better nurses but wasn't aloud any food for the duration of my stay and until this day I have been left to my own devices to get nutrition in they replaced a tube and this tube does the same thing it leaks and they are not doing a thing about it I have waisted a ton of money coming out here to get nothing done I have mental health issues as well but this is a medical issue and you really do get treated like crap if you have any type of mental health issue it really needs to change I have really fallen through the cracks this system here is terrible system back at home is more organized and better mannered this should not be ranked number one in any way thanks for your time in reading read more
