Oh no!! Just found out Sakana permanently closed. Anyone know if they moved or are they out of business?

I don't like leaving bad reviews, this one was a little tough. I like the style of the restaurant and what they were going for, but it needs cleaned and organized. I came for lunch service on a Monday, I was the only customer . I asked for a item on the menu and it wasn't available, not a good sign. The spring roll was loaded with lettuce and a couple pieces of crab, sauce was not good. Miso soup was under seasoned. Bento was subpar and was not on the same level as others in the area. Chicken was dry, salad dressing didn't taste good, the mandu was the best thing on the plate. Sadly, I would not eat here again. read more

The food is pretty good here, best sushi in town though! Service is hit or miss depending who you have but it is a beautiful restaurant. You can people watch the people coming and out of the mall if that's your thing or they have tvs up and you can even see the tvs in Santa Fe when there is a game going on. read more

Decent Japanese fare as well as sushi. Ordered the bento box but it didn't come in a bento, it was just put on a plate also with grilled vegetables. The teriyaki saba had a nice taste but you have to pick the meat off the bones, but the fried rice was good. The sushi - tamago and yellowtail - were also good. Service also prompt. We went because we were told they cooked at your table, but they don't . Service was great. Quick and accommodating . The soup and salad was some of the best we've had at similar restaurants! The rest of the meal was just alright. I would come back for the soup and salad but would try different entree. I should also add that they do not honor the Yelp check in offer. read more

I stopped in with a friend to satisfy a sushi craving. I hadn't been to this restaurant before, but my normal haunt was temporarily closed. Thankfully, this place was doing to-go orders. My friend and I decided to do the lunch special of 2 rolls and a soup or salad for $10. I decided on a California roll and another roll with crab, shrimp, and spicy mayo (I can't remember the name). I asked if I could make the cali roll spicy, to which she replied it would be extra. Ok, not a problem, just put it on the side instead. Our food came rather quickly and we left. My friend commented that his miso soup was rather small and balancing precariously between the two boxes. No worries, we aren't going far. My salad was simple, just lettuce, but the dressing was very good. Unfortunately, the salad was wet, so the dressing just pooled around the bottom. I scraped it and was happy. Now for the rolls: I was extremely disappointed in both. Both rolls had literally no flavor. Even soaked in soy sauce and spicy (not spicy) mayo, the rolls were just bland. The shrimp had a very fishy under taste to it, but not enough to take away from the total blandness of the meal. I ate about half of each roll and was done. It didn't satisfy me at all. My friend didn't seem happy or disappointed, so I couldn't gauge his response. I can say he didn't rave about it like he normally would with sushi. Terribly disappointed. Perhaps if we dined in it would have been a different experience. Thankfully, I ordered a pizza a few hours later to curb my hunger. read more

Sakana has a good variety of sushi rolls - we tried three of them, and all were decent. We'd order the Rock Roll again. The Captain Crunch roll was primarily cucumber, and Lady Love was quite lemony - we'd probably try something else next time. The egg rolls (harumaki) were excellent (hot, fresh, crispy), as was the plum wine, which was just the right amount of sweet and a generous pour; we'll probably go big and get a bottle for the table next time. read more

The daily lunch special at Sakana's is very affordable and has a lot of menu options. If you choose the pick 2 it's only $10 and pick 3 is $15. These options allow you to pick multiple sushi rolls and menu items. My favorite roll is the Cajun Roll, which consist of a crab salad center and a spicy mixture on the top; this provides a light and spicy flavor in each bite. I had a really good experience here. The ambiance is nice but not too posh. The service was excellent, as our waiter was very attentive. The real standout here was the food. I ordered the sushi combination platter and the variety of fish they served was very fresh and high quality. I would say some of the best I have had in a long time. Honestly some of the worst sushi I've ever had. I've actually had gas station sushi that was better than this. I only tried this place because Volcano stopped doing delivery and the reviews looked good. Well, I was very wrong. Who made this sushi? There was sooo much rice, I had to take most of it out just so it would be edible. The tuna looked and tasted like Chicken of the Sea. Nothing seemed fresh or authentic. Holy cow, it didn't know sushi could be this terribly wrong and just not good. Please avoid this place at all costs. Not much to weight this on because all I could eat was the green salad. It was ok just had a few small pieces of wilted lettuce, but hey it's a sushi place not a salad place. They wouldn't make a roll wrapped in cucumber cause they were busy. However it was Saturday and there was one waitress and one chef. Oh my, the miso soup was steaming HOT! I could see the heat rising. I actually added ice from my ice tea to cool it down. lol! The flavor was excellent though. They have a lunch special where you get 2 items for $10 or 3 for $15 plus miso soup or salad. As you can tell from my first comment, I chose the miso soup. It was thick (for miso soup) and hearty miso soup. It wasn't a watered down version and was chock full of flavor. I ordered the escolar nigiri and the shrimp tempura. The shrimp tempura come with three pieces of shrimp and some veggies and was hot. It was obviously freshly cooked and awesome. The sauce they had for it accented the taste and didn't overwhelming. I took a bite of the fried onion ring with the lovely sauce and I thought I was in heaven OVER AN ONION RING! That's right- an onion ring with the amazing sauce. One of the things that made it so awesome is that the onion was thickly cut and the sauce had just a hint of sweetness. So sweet and savory meet, with no one thing dominating. I started running out of stomach room and I had to choose between fried zucchini, my aforesaid onion ring and two more pieces of shrimp. Oh vey! Decisions, decisions! The escolar had a clean fresh taste and was yummy. It had the sweet taste of totally fresh escolar. This used to be one of our favorite sushi spots however there is new management and a new menu and the food quality plummeted. Sushi was all bad, there are no lunch specials anymore and it is way overpriced! Hopefully it will change for the better. read more

Ok so many things I could write! The Yellowtail was not fresh. The sushi was not brought out as it was explained in the menu. When asked about it the manager says well the cooked part is inside the rice when the menu clearly stated outside cooked. The manager did say the menus are old and was getting new ones next week! We had a wonderful dinner here tonight! We have ordered food to go, on Postmates, and we've dined in the restaurant and every time the service and food is flawless. The management team really cares about quality, service and happy customers! I'm a BIG FAN of the homemade ginger dressing that comes on the dinner salad! We took out 79 year old grandmother with us tonight and it was her first time ever in a sushi restaurant and first time to try a piece of sushi. She seemed too like too! I used to love this place as far as sushi goes for the Moore area however now that they're under new management, they've changed their rolls. Their rolls used to be twice the size that they are now and more filling. Now the rolls are skinny, it's more rice than meat/veggies and you have to purchase two rolls to be even slightly satisfied. read more

Another sushi spot in Moore, no complaints here. It's average priced, if anything a bit more expensive than it should be. Nice decor, friendly staff, the usual. Plenty of TVs all around, could be a good place to lounge about with friends if a game is on or something. Their take on sushi is just a bit different which is nice. They have your common "special rolls" then they have their own mixed in. I don't think I've ever seen stick crap as a sushi roll topper before. I got the captain crunch, something cowboy, rock roll, and I forgot the last one. All were great, no complaints there. Once finished, i sat around for 10 minutes with plates stacked, waiting for the waitress to stop by. I ended up having to wave down a manager who was assisting to get the check. It may have been surprisingly busy for a Wednesday so the waitress may have been overwhelmed, understandable. Says a lot about how good the food is! read more

Great place. Very fresh fish, skillfully prepared. Sit at the sushi bar, if you can, and see if Koto is the sushi chef that night. If he is, ask him to do a "chef special" roll for you. He will make something up. Just tell him what you like and let him go. No need to order on the menu only. Find out what he thinks is freshest and best. Then get that! (Good advice for most better sushi pkaces). And yes, the food was as good as the pictures make it look! read more

The first time my husband and I came here, it just happened to be Happy Hour. Which is a really good deal. We especially loved the yakitori, which is teriyaki chicken and the gyoza which is Japanese style dumplings. I tried the shrimp tempura appetizer which comes with two sweet potatoes, a broccoli, and an onion too. This has become a very busy area worth many new places to eat and shop popping up recently so we figured we'd give Sakana a try. This is one of the better sushi restaurants in the Moore area. The location is perfect for the amount of traffic and customers in the area. Walking into the restaurant the first thing you are greeted by is a lot of orange and up scale Japanese decor. There are two different bars in the restaurant one for alcohol the other for the sushi. We were seated at a table in the main restaurant area. Our waitress was very attentive and all of our food was delivered fast. We started with the seared tuna over a fresh salad. The dressing on the salad was perfect for the appetizer. The tuna was the only down fall for the dish and it was the main thing we wanted. The sear on the tuna was a little over done which made the texture a little off putting. Next we had several different types of sushi all of which were very good and better than I expected. Chirashi bowls are one of my favorite things to order because of the variety and amount of fresh fish you get for such a good price, this place has the best one I have had in town. The spicy tuna had one of the best flavors as well. We left this place feeling comfortably full for the amount of food we got. If you are in the Moore area I recommend giving this place a try, they will not disappoint. read more

I came here to try the newest sushi place in Moore and I believe in Moore this is the best place beating gogo sushi and volcano. However... There are couple of things that should be said hence the 3 star review. 1. The interior of this place was great with a great open bar setting and lights to make this place hip and trendy. 2. The tables were clean and did not have that weird disinfectant smell to it which was good. 3. The unagi(eel) was pretty thick. 4. They have other sashimi others do not have such as sweet shrimp and fatty tuna. Ok here's the non positive aspects. 1. I ordered the fuji roll and got the Cajun roll instead. My husband and I had to catch a movie and didn't really mention it and the check expressed the Cajun roll but I think the waiter just didn't understand me which I think was unbelievable since I literally pointed it on the menu and said it three times.... 2. The amount of rice to ingredients portion was too high on the rice and I got so full from the rice. 3. Too much sauce. My opinion... Best sushi I've had in Oklahoma so far, by far! I ordered about 30 minutes before closing time and everything was absolutely fresh and had wonderful flavor. I called in an order for pickup for the Salmon Sashimi, the Baby Gecko Roll, and the Tootsie Roll. The Salmon Sashimi in particular was so buttery and soft. So yummy! It was very beautiful all in one box. The order was ready to pick up in 20 minutes. When I went inside to the restaurant to pick up my order, I had no wait, they were quick and very friendly.
