Wow, one of my favorite sushi spots in Hattiesburg now. The sauce is very interesting, it's a combination of the eel sauce, spicy mayo, and sesame. It seems. The sushi itself is very good, the rice to meat ratio was a little off. I got a roll with rice paper and had a unique taste to it, although my sushi fell apart pretty easily. Again coming from Seattle I haven't found a sushi spot that comes near to what sushi should taste like, but this place is decent. read more

Have eaten here a million times, have never been disappointed. Cheap but good quality Japanese food if you're craving it, only expensive things I'd say is the kitchen entree's and the seafood boils but that's to be expected. Many items on the menu and very vegetarian friendly. Service can depend on who's working and how busy it is. Not a super fancy place, it's very relaxed and could be a good study spot for students since they have multiple tables near outlets and tables closer to the back away from all the noise. read more

Today was my first time coming to Sake Cafe. We walked in and were seated immediately. The wait staff came to the table and let us know that they didn't have any sweet tea at the moment. Good thing... neither of us drink sweet tea. We were given the menus and ample time to order. The waitress came back and asked if we had any questions or needed a moment more. We ordered our appetizers which included the edamame, seaweed salad, wok fried calamari, and fried gyoza. The appetizers and the salad came out pretty quickly. Everything was perfectly seasoned, great Temps, right texture, and the taste was superb. As we were finishing up our appetizers, the waitress came out to bring on the heavy hitters! Main dishes... Steak and chicken hibachi, Southern Miss roll, Spider Web roll, and a recommendation from our waitress Lexie the Angela 2. Everything was amazing. I have never been so stuffed in all my life and still tried to eat more. I am absolutely miserable and I have left overs. Ha ha ha. Can't complain about that. The atmosphere was awesome. There was some soft upbeat music playing in the background. It was not too loud as to drown out my partner, but just loud enough to hear and having me bobbing my head and doing a little jig in between bites. The wait staff (Lexie) was hands down phenomenal! She helped us to navigate the menu and even recommended some stuff since we were newbies here. The prices were exceptional. The location is perfect. Did I already say the customer service was absolutely 100 percent hands down the best we have had in a long while. Not to mention we came in looking like some ranch hands. Ha ha ha. I will have to recommended this place to anyone with breath in their lungs. They have something for everyone. They then say 10-12 minutes. 15 minutes later I ask is food ready they say again a few minutes. 30 minutes have gone by. I ask for a refund. they inform me that due to it being a third party hired by them i would need to wait 24 hrs and they SHOULD contact me. I ask for a manager, Haleigh says in a very unprofessional tone that she is the manager. I asked for the owner she stated that he will decline speaking w/ me. So this was a old haunt and home to one of my favorite appetizers ever. So much that I would drive 5 hours one way for to be completely condescended and spoken so rudely by their "manager" and when I asked for the owner by name was told he wasnt there for him to appear 30 seconds later ( guess she didn't know I would know what he looked like) he still didnt approach the table to see if he could help our situation. Like a previous poster posted screen shots that "manager" is still employed and apparently her tips are so bad she has to wait tables in house slippers... But its all us shitty tippers.... I usually really like sake cafe and don't ever really leave reviews for places, but honestly my order today was pretty ridiculous. I ordered the salmon box which is $11, and got 8 of these rolls. For rolls from the SALMON BOX they literally have strips of salmon across them SO THIN it's translucent and don't even cover the whole tops of the rice. Ridiculous. Is this sushi? Or just sushi rice? It's literally just sushi rice. That was $11. I don't mind paying a good amount of money for good actual sushi, but I feel ripped off. Why be so stingy with the fish?????? read more

You will find good food at as reasonable price. We visit Sake often. Service is good. The place is clean and offers a quiet atmosphere.

We stopped in for a quick bite while we used the Tesla chargers. The sushi was delicious, and the service was friendly. Would recommend you give it a try. read more

Our family attempted to eat here this past Sunday. Upon entering, my sister in law noticed that they had 3 (4 top) tables seated and served. Otherwise, the place was empty. When we requested a table for our party of 12, Haleigh states "I don't have time for this" and didn't make us feel welcome to eat there. We asked for the manager and she states, she is "the manager". This Japanese restaurant, an offshoot of a small local chain from Metarie, LA, is hands down the best place to get sushi in Hattiesburg, MS. It is located in the shopping center behind Chick Fil A and Backyard Burger and between Kohls and Target. I have never, ever had a bad slice of fish from the sushi chefs at Sake Cafe. That is rare to say for a sushi place that's not located directly in a coastal area! They have many set sushi sets as well as an extensive a'la cart menu for the sushi, from rolls to sashimi. Beware: the sashimi plate is sometimes served on a boat! They have a few cooked dishes like your traditional tempura choices and teriyakis that come out on a sizzling platter. Udon, a noodle soup, is great for cold days. Also try their bar. My favorite was the Sake San: a $10 set of sakes - One bottle of hot sake, one glass of a cold unfiltered sake (slightly sweet) and one glass of cold pear sake. I can't rave about this place enough. I really miss them now that I'm living in Jackson, even though we have so many sushi places to choose from up here! read more

Hattiesburg isn't a haven for creative or interesting sushi, but I think this is my favorite place in town. They always seems to have a new drink special available from the bar and their fish quality is all right. They have a tuna thing that comes out in some interesting presentation--it's spicy tuna with a quail egg and all on top of rice. Points for creativity there. I had a sashimi/sushi combo last week and everything was good. Very casual, because Hattiesburg. But also, their kid's menu meals are nicely portioned. read more

The decor and setup is not all that great but the food here is amazing! Everyone is very nice and hospitable, we tried the gyoza( pork), the crawfish spring roll, Volcano roll, and the southern miss roll. We also had the fried cheese cake, everything was simply amazing. This place is consistently good. I get the sushi bento box. It's a lot of food for a great price. The staff is extremely friendly, and they are very good to my two toddlers who enjoy the edamame and the crab stick sushi. This review is just for habachi, as I haven't tried their sushi yet. I'm slowly making my way through all the habachi restaurants in town (seriously - what is up with Hattiesburg and habachi?!) Anyway, Sake Cafe doesn't cook in front of you, which is nice if you don't want to deal with the show. Let's be honest, a girl can only take so many onion volcanoes and shrimp in the hat flips. The steak & shrimp habachi wasn't as great as other places in town, but I will come back. The appetizers we tried were delicious, so I'd like to give their sushi a try. Ambiance is 5 stars compared to other places. You can't tell from the outside, but it has a nice intimate bar, cool lighting and great music. Would be a good spot for a date. read more

I was introduced to this great place by a friend while shopping Saturday. I would have to say Sushi doesn't get any better than this! Loved the "Who Dat" roll! I thought it was even better than Saki Sushi in Meridian and Little Toyoko in Jackson. A plus was that it is walking distance to "Material Girls" a favorite boutique. read more

We have frequented Sake often. Unfortunately tonight will be our last. I placed a to go order for $80 worth of sushi. This does not include a tip. When I asked for ponzu sauce I was told I'd have to pay $0.50 for each plastic (small salad dressing) to go container. Keep in mind we would need many small containers for 4 people. The person taking our order said this was a new policy to prevent people who have small orders and take all of their sauces. I then asked if we were eating at the restaurant would we be charged. She said "no". I asked to speak to a manager. She then repeated the same information and added their sauces were made in house. I explained to her that we were getting a large amount of food and I didn't think it was right that we'd have to pay for a sauce that we would receive with our meal if we were to be eating there. She refused to let go of the policy. I told her to cancel our order and that we wouldn't be back. The manager seemed to be fine with that. Seems silly to me to forfeit an $80+ purchase and customer over $0.50 ponzu. The night was saved! We then ordered the same food from Wasabi (pretty much across the street) which gave us delicious sushi, service, and free sauce. read more

Can't say anything bad about Sake Cafe in Hattiesburg or Laurel, both restaurants owned by the same family who owns China Town buffet in Laurel. I prefer the sashimi at Hattiesburg's Little Tokyo, but the sushi rolls at Sake Cafe apologize to no one! They also have a really good kitchen menu! read more
