As a foodie & frequent traveler, quality of food & degree of customer service is something that I take incredibly seriously. Sushi is my favorite food type and go-to meal. After visits to multiple sushi spots in Mobile, I found myself looking for something a bit more "fresh", on par with Sugarfish, Nobu, or any well known Sushi house. I identified Sakura Cafe in my search and given the reviews regarding the friendly & outgoing character of the restaurant employees, I decided to venture out and give it a shot. I can say with great satisfaction and enthusiasm, I have a found my favorite new sushi restaurant in Alabama!! The restaurant owner (assuming) was an extremely friendly lady who made me feel right at home. I placed an order (consisting of 4 different rolls) and waited for my food to be prepared; there is a bit of a wait, ac the chef hand cuts all of the components and meticulously organizes the food in a well-presented manner. Skipping ahead to when I arrived at home....I immediately went into a food trance, best tasting sushi I've had in the South; presentation, quality, flavor, and as someone who has spent an enormous amount of money eating away from home, pricing was great. 11/10 recommend. We stopped here on a Sunday after church. My husband and I shared 3 rolls and all were great. My mom ordered the bbq shrimp lunch special. There was so much food; she had lunch the next day too. They had not been opened long when we arrived and while we were the only eat in guests, they did quite a few take out orders while we were there. Service was great and personal! The food was the best I've ever had, I've traveled most of the United States and this hole in the wall had the absolute best sushi and clear soup I've ever had. The sushi itself was the freshest I've had, the service was immaculate. The atmosphere could use something but it really is worth the stop and worth the price. I absolutely love their yum-yum sauce. It is the best that I have ever tasted. It also helps the taste of their dishes, if you like Yum-Yum. My husband likes both the Yum-Yum and the Soy Sauce. They put a little too much for me. THE Bama Roll is pretty good. Shrimp and Chicken Hibachi dinners are our favorite. Sakura Cafe is run by a couple. Their wait times are very long due to this reason. I waited about 50 minutes for my call in order. The owners very kindly asked if I could wait that long for an order. They also refused some orders because they weren't able to accommodate. I ordered the general tso chicken, side order of vegetable lo mein, rainbow roll, and crazy tuna roll. The food here is OK. Their spicy mayo sauce here is different from other sushi joints. I didn't love it on the crazy tuna roll. I would however get the rainbow roll again. read more

First visit today. Recommended by a friend. Got the lunch special fish Katsu . Miso soup was excellent, fish dish and sides were tasty and the fried rice was really good. Phoned the wife and told her I found a good place, and she ordered take out crunchy tempura shrimp roll. It was very tasty and plenty for her and a stolen couple pieces for me. Nice folks and they deserve some more folks in there IMO. I do see other reviews that say if you are in a big hurry go elsewhere or order ahead. I went to this place because I saw how great the reviews were. This place was incredible. It was all you would expect from a high-end Japanese restaurant. All of their sauces seem homemade. The crab rangoons were the best I've ever had and the yumyum sauce was amazing. The spicy tuna roll was also top-notch. I would recommend everyone come here and try it. What a great little hole in a wall we found off of the interstate! Kids were looking for Asian food after a week of hot dogs and sandwiches from staying on the beach. This was the perfect fix! We had Kids New York strip, Shrimp Lo Mein, Super Crunchy Roll, General Tso's Chicken, and a fabulous sweet and spicy stir-fried Pork dish. Sakura is one of the only local restaurants that show their true appreciation for your business. The owners, Lilly and Andy, are the only cooks so you have to be patient, but it is well worth the wait because everything is cooked fresh to order. This is my first time to ever write a review!! We often stay in this area on our way from TX to FL and this is off the beaten path, but well worth the trip. We showed up at 8:40 on a Sunday night thinking they closed at 9:30. I asked if we could still get a table when we walked in and he said it would have to be take away. (Totally understandable!!) Another family came in after us and they gladly waited on them as well. After we ordered I realized they closed at 9 on Sundays and felt bad. It took a bit to get our food, but it was obviously prepared to high standards and on the spot. The sushi was amazing! The sesame chicken may be the best I ever had! The veggies I got with my entree were hibachi style veggies and so delicious!! One of the best meals I've ever eaten, and that's after the 10 minute drive we had to make back to the hotel. This is an awesome little restaurant. The folks here are just awesome. The portions are more than adequate and the price is GREAT. I am a Health Dept. score reader. I gauge a place by their health score. I've never been in here that their score is below a 95. Usually 97 or so. That to me is just awesome. Sakura Cafe is a great destination. Unlike the other review, I don't view this restaurant as a "hole in the wall". It is quaint, but the interior was very clean and well setup. The lunch special is amazing. You get an entree, spring roll, soup or salad, fried rice, and 4 pieces of a California roll for a very reasonable price. I got katsu chicken and upgraded my California roll to spicy tuna. First, I must acknowledge the staff. Their high level of customer service is only topped by how genuinely friendly they are. They really go out of their way to make sure you are enjoying your meal. The food itself was very good. The Katsu chicken was perfectly cooked and the fried rice was very tasty. My spicy tuna roll was better than I expected and I'll be coming back to order more sushi in the future. The real kicker for me was the springroll. I don't like springrolls, but this was the best one I've ever had. You won't regret eating at Sakura Cafe. read more

This place had good reviews. Not from around here and when we pulled up it seemed empty and a little sketchy but thought we give it a try anyway...glad we did. The wait on the food was a touch long but nothing that bothered us. They only had one waitress and one cook but like I said it was pretty slow. The waitress was very soft spoken but as sweet as she could be. All the food was very good. Only complaint I would have was my chicken katsu may have been a slight bit tough...very slight. This place has the best fried rice in Mobile. It isn't the cheap yellow stuff you get at all generic Chinese restaurants. The lunch special is also very affordable and provides a great selection of food. After speaking with the nice lady here, she also informed me that they do not use any MSG in their food. Why only four stars when everybody else is giving it five. Well it isn't because the food is bad. Nooooooooooo! This is great food. Fresh, flavorful, well made, a good variety and plenteous. It isn't because the service is bad. Most restaurants could take a lesson from the staff here. It isn't the prices; they are quite reasonable. Not the location either. So what is it then. TV's! I don't like them when I am eating as they are a distraction. So, here's my upshot; come for the food, you cannot go wrong.
