The size of their maki roll
    Reese D.

It is Memphis and I really do not have high hope finding good sushi. However, as I eat vegan and need a few vegan options in the area, to Sakura we go. First off, I must say they do provide some vegan options which is great. I got a couple of sushi rolls and a vegetable hibachi. The vegetable hibachi tasted plain but the mere fact that I can get a warm vegan meal is more than enough to compensate the lack of flavor. Then the option for those who can consume all aka the bf. He wasn't particularly hungry for sushi and decided to get a "small" maki as appetizer. As far as maki goes, this was the biggest size maki we've ever seen in the US. I didn't thing it was possible but they managed to make a roll twice its size elsewhere in the States. Quality of fish is not as fresh as the ones found in the coast but you sort of expect that. Flavor wise, he said it was good and check every box of an American Japanese maki roll. Definitely recommend if you like creative oversized sushi rolls.

Going to caveat that I'm from CA so my standard is a bit high when it comes to sushi. That being said, I was fairly satisfied with the quality I found here! We were a big party and ordered a large variety of items on the menu. From the sushi platters to the bento boxes, all the portions were huge and didn't leave anyone hungry. The service was great and handled our big table efficiently, all the food came out at a reasonable time. Well decorated interior as well, overall a great choice for Japanese and sushi out in Memphis!

Quick stop before movie screening as I was craving sushi. Parking was practically non-existent as the lot is fairly small and shared with other businesses. After about 5mins I was finally able to secure a spot. Upon entry, we were promptly generated and seated. Menu is pretty straightforward. Quick turnaround for our items. Several patrons there and everyone seemed to be enjoying the athursday evening. Despite our time crunch, we were able to sit and chat while enjoying our food. The clear soup is always a must on chilly evenings. Perfect place for someone looking for casual vibes.

Never been here before but have passed it several times.... The sushi is really fresh and good! I must admit I had my hesitations because I'm picky about my sushi. However, this seemed fresh and they were good about accommodating my difficult requests... it wasn't anything super special but it was clean and the staff were all very friendly. I also thought it was a nice setting! The only thing I did not like was their house salad with ginger dressing. The dressing was missing something.. overall, a decent experience!

This sushi was pretty delicious. It is still Memphis sushi, so it's not 100% the best in the world. For Memphis, I give it 5 stars. Rolls had lots of flavor. All good was served fresh and hot. Nigiri was great pieces of fish. The only downside was their sushi rice had wayyyy too much vinegar in it. Sake was hot and delicious and BOGO Monday-Thursday.

The best sushi in town, hands down! You will not be disappointed if you come here. Some friends and I got together for an epic sushi dinner and I thoroughly enjoyed all the rolls. I had been here 10+ years ago with my former work group and the quality has remained consistent.

Must try: crunchy crawfish roll, Mardi Gras roll Eh: ginger salad, spicy tuna roll Must have: hot sake Service was really good, they kept checking on us. Very attentive. Everything tasted fresh and the wait wasn't long at all. They provide warm wet towels to cleanse your hands prior to eating which is a really nice touch because not all Japanese places do this.

    Beef Teriyaki bento box

Service was decent. Food was above average. I am very particular about my sushi. That being said, for the price point, this place is great. I got a bento box with the teriyaki beef and 2 pieces of the tuna and salmon to see how the fish is. The selection of fish is pretty normal. No chutoro or otoro. I did not see uni or foie gras. The fish was fresh. The agendashi tofu was a highlight. It was slightly crispy on the outside just how I like it. The beef tataki appetizer was also really tender. A bit citriusy, but I don't mind that.

So yummy!! The rolls were the perfect mix of sweet and savory and a little bit of crunch!!! The udon hit the spot!! This restaurant is the only one in Memphis I know that has dishes that are close to what you might expect in Japan.

Consistent service, good food, nice location in East Memphis. Parking is tight, but worth it! Have been to this location twice, usually a Germantown Sakura customer, but all of my favorites are here! Sake served at the perfect temperature, too.

Great service and food was solid for sushi in Memphis. Price was right too. They also get a good crowd so try to reserve a table.

Solid menu all the way around. If you don't want to spend d a fortune , try the Jackson roll. It's like an elevated crab/California roll.

Take a moment to listen and understand what I'm about to tell you. I went to Great China Food Market and I had an odd disrespectful experience. We were respectful, quiet, used manners to get by people, but we were getting weird looks/stares from all the older Asian customers in there, but this is not about the customers because they were just there to shop and they see someone different. The cashier in there bagged and handed everyone their receipt. Remember this. We've been here before and it wasn't the same respectful guy at the cash register, it was a different guy. For time stamps Saturday, July 18th, 2026, around or before 1pm if there were any cameras. When he was checking our items out, he threw the bag in front of us and threw the receipt in front of us. But then he started getting a bag ready for the next customer so he can bag their things. I was so thrown off by his disrespectful childish behaviour. Mind you, a grown man acting like this. I can't think of any way that we were rude, so that leads to one conclusion. This is how you'll get treated in Great China Food Market especially if you're brown. Apparently you have to look the part for people to respect you in there. But he seems fine with white people. Just don't go there. They're clearly disrespectful and they don't know they live in a diverse country. I hope that grown man child can learn from this and treat his brown customers better. As minorities, we should respect each other, I don't know why you feel so disgusted with us to the point where you can't even hand us the receipt, we can bag things on our own but the fact that you threw both the bag and the receipt in front of us while getting a bag ready for the next customer, it really made us feel disrespected. Why do you have so much hate in your heart? We are all human and we just wanted to buy some latiao, you didn't have to disrespect us like that while respecting all the other customers to make us feel small. Are we not worthy of your respect? I can't even say that it's implicit bias when you're fully aware of what you're doing. Shame on you.

We've even gotten delivery before and it was ok. But today the food was super cold. The hibachi shrimp was so overcooked that it was practically burnt. See picture. I know that the delivery person picked it up as soon as it was ready because I can see the pickup in the app. So it's the restaurant's fault for not maintaining the temperature. I don't understand how the kitchen can allow burnt shrimp to go out when you can can clearly see it. Also the portion of shrimp was very skimpy. Not sure what's going on with the restaurant tonight but it seems like they just don't care about the quality of the takeout or delivery food. If they don't want that source of business then they just need to get off of the delivery apps.
