This was my first time ordering at this location. I placed a to go order for my favorite sushi from them, the Monster Roll! It is so good and packed with flavor. It has loads of shrimp tempura, spicy crawfish, crunchy, topped with salmon, tuna, red snapper, yellowtail, spicy crab, chef's special sauce! Like you literally can't go wrong. Fun Fact- this was my first meal after I gave birth in February! I also decided to try their fried rice for the first time and it was delicious. When I'm trying out a new sushi restaurant, I like to go with my typical spicy tuna and rainbow roll. The spicy tuna was really bland. I also prefer when the tuna is diced, rather than a paste. The rainbow was ok, giving me mostly the flavor of the crab. Also, it seemed like the rice had a buttery taste. Service was quick and the waiter was attentive. They have a pretty good bar selection as well. Restaurant was clean with lots of seating. They had a pretty good crowd, but it wasn't noisy. Maybe I went on an "off night" so I'll give them another try the next time I'm in Memphis and update my review if needed. read more

I love this place because it has excellent sushi, which I am always down for, but also good hibachi, great for those friends of mine who don't like sushi. So this is an ideal place for anyone who likes Japanese food. They give a complimentary Spring Roll to each person, which is unique and I've never seen anywhere else. I have had mixed reactions to the steak. Oddly enough, the steak in the hibachi meal didn't taste that great but the steak in the fried rice tasted amazing! I usually dislike steak in all forms so I'm pleased I liked it at all. The Big Apple Roll is the best of the best so newcomers should definitely try that but the most recent time I got it, it was very dry. So I'd probably like it with some spicy mayo next time. The Mummy Roll looks huge but it's mostly the potato on top. It was still pretty yummy. The Yum-Yum Shrimp was good but tasted too much like mayo to me. I like the Bang Bang Shrimp at Bonefish better but my friend liked these better. I gotta say the Hawaiian Fried Rice was bland and disappointing. A hidden gem in Memphis. We visited Memphis a few days ago and decided to try this spot. Loved it! I popped in on a Monday evening around 5:00p and I was greeted upon entering. I was seated and server came over within 5 minutes with a spring roll. It wasn't hot but okay and overall they are not my choice because I prefer egg rolls and if you know you know. And oddly enough they do not serve eggrolls. My server Anthony was amazing! He offered a helpful suggestion about the specials that include regular and special rolls but did not include premium rolls which I wanted to try. So I ordered the Solo roll and Midtown roll which are special rolls and the Monster roll is a premium roll. They did not disappoint! The Solo roll turned out to be my favorite but they are were all fresh and so good and all are spicy which I love. The price point is good as well. The atmosphere is nice also. Both were super tasty & the Spicy Tuna was packed with filling. RESTAURANT: Clean and comfortable. DRINKS: My iced tea came in one of those quart sized Coke cups. It took me the whole lunch to finish it and the waitress gladly offered me a fresh one to-go! SERVICE: The service was quick & (mostly) friendly. I counted about 13 workers that I could see: 1 American, 3 Japanese/Asian, and the rest Hispanic. I didn't know if I should celebrate our diversity or call a hotline. The one standout was a heavy-set Hispanic'ish manager (?) with a "halfro." Upon entering the restaurant, Halfro was very matter of fact & not extremely personable. As I exited, Halfro was standing at the front with a couple other staffers. I told them "Thank you, it was all very good." Halfro stood with his arms folded, never made eye contact, & just nodded his head almost in disgust at me for reasons unknown. I can only imagine he thought I was someone I'm not. My Go-To Hibachi Spot! Anytime I'm craving hibachi rice, this is my number one go-to! Everything on the menu is consistently good, and the food is always ready in a timely manner. The prices are reasonable, and the edamame is off the chain, seriously, don't skip it! This is also my mother's favorite spot; the she literally eats here once a week. They know us by name and face, which says a lot about the service and atmosphere. My mom always gets the chicken hibachi, and I usually go for the salmon hibachi or shrimp hibachi. The fact that we were seated in all black customers in the bar area. On the other side of the restaurant was all white customers. This has been my spot anytime I needed adult time!! Lunchtime when kids were at school!! The sushi is absolutely amazing!! It a treat and would often have girlfriend meet & sip tea! (Smirk) In 2020 the pandemic hit and suddenly I lost my ability to eat in public due to health concerns! As we knew what was happening we all had to adjust - and do the best we could! The other day I drove in the strip mall area and counted 8 restaurants! I called the hubby and we decided to each "do you!" I ordered 2 dragon rolls & side fried rice! Though they did not have it so you could add meat to the side portions there were plenty of egg, carrots, & peas! The "pista resistance" was my dragon rolls-OMG!! The food is still delicious AND the restaurant was so much more busy & family friendly!! If you're a local Memphian, or simply touring the city and love Japanese cuisine, definitely try Red Koi. Opposed to other overly priced Japanese style restaurants, Red Koi is reasonably priced and affordable for any party. Appetizers/Main cuisines range anywhere from $4-$25. I love their hibachi because it's perfectly portioned for half the price of your typical hibachi. And of course, with any hibachi, you have to pair it with sushi. (my personal preference.) I opted for a fried sushi- Tornado roll which was great and lightly fried. I asked for a suggestion from the waiter. His suggestion was a roll that included: Shrimp tempura, cream cheese, cucumber and crawfish topped with crab meat. This dish was my least favorite. It was heavily fried and the crab meat toppings overpowered the roll. Sadly, I didn't finish this dish at all. But, there are soooooo many amazing sushi options to choose from. Overall, service and the diverse menu options at Red koi are amazing enough to keep customers coming back. Sidenote: Lunch hours are pretty busy, however, the staff moves rather swiftly to get everyone serviced in a reasonable time frame. read more

It's easy to get lost in these names, the Cordova roll is a salmon-tuna roll, and the Florida roll was spicy tuna-avocado-cream cheese.
