Although not posted in the menu as such, fried rice for the dinner specials is apparently $1 extra now. And the upcharge is not conveyed during the ordering. They just ask steamed or fried rice. But if you say fried when you get the bill you'll see the up charge line itemed. Not sure if that's gonna apply to the lunch specials as well in 2026. It's served in a separate bowl that's heaping full ... but the wait staff's finger was dug deep inside the rice when carrying it. Never saw her before but it was a bit off putting. Super crowded on a Saturday night. Standing room only. Heard one person say best restaurant in town. Just an fyi, I found a bone in one of my sashimi. Never happened before. But just be mindful, especially if giving to your kids or if you're like me and stuff the whole piece in your mouth. In the past we used to come and the Chinese staff and owner were super nice to us. And that was part of the charm of always going back. Kinda like going to Cheers where everybody knows your name. Nowadays it really just seems more like any other business. And so times change. Two visits to Fiji Cafe, both wholly successful! On Christmas Eve, they were slammed but service and food were still good exceptional! For the cost you get an abundance of food. I have lived in Cville for 20+ years and this is my first visit. I am not a sushi eater but heard that their fried rice was good. I decided to give it a try. I walked in and was greeted in about 3-4 minutes. I placed my order for house fried rice. The worker said it would be 5 minutes. Awesome!!! Got my order to go and went home. The rice was average. It wasn't bad but didn't knock my socks off. I would order again in a pinch but there are definitely others that are a bit more tasty. All of the employees were super sweet and made sure we understood the menu. The location is small, but we were seated quickly. Lighting is a little dim and cozy. We just love Fuji Cafe. We have found the food to always be VERY fresh & tasty. The prices are fair. The waiter & waitress are both warm, attentive, customer oriented & terrific. One of our favorite entrees is the sushi lover meal for 2 people. On the face of it , it seems expensive at close to $46 but the sushi & sashimi are superior & though we both eat until full we leave with a take-out container of sushi for the next night at home. I worked at this place when it first opened in the early 2000's. It will forever be my "home" sushi place. The ambiance is simple, but they still have the instrumental version of top 40 hits playing in the background. You still get miso soup. They don't give the hot towels anymore which I really miss. The service is always quick and courteous. I have never once gotten the wrong thing or had a delay on my order there. That's pretty impressive. I've also never had my order come out anything less than perfect- consistency is their strong suit. I moved away years ago and had my favorite roll a few days ago and it tastes exactly the same as it did 10 years ago. It's been yeeeears since I've been here but it's still really good. I actually have come here quite a few times but for some reason I stopped coming after a while. I think it's because the friends who loved this place all moved away. I recently returned with my mom and had a really pleasant experience so I want to start coming back here more often. This place looks like an authentic Japanese restaurant (or what I would think one would look like). The moment you sit down you get hot towels to wipe your hands with. It's a neat touch. You also get complimentary miso soup. The Sushi Roll Lunch has a ton of food in it, but I found I wasn't as fond of the sushi options. I liked how cool it was since it looked like a bento, but foodwise I'd rather just get a roll or two I'll like instead. 1-3-26 We are regular customers but today lunch was a total breakdown in customer services. They were semi busy. We had to wait to be seated. No one acknowledged that they be right with us. Then we had to wait until they were ready to serve us. We finally got served by us putting in our order for drinks and food. They simply didn't have a backup plan for shorthanded waitstaff. There were no excuses for the amount of business that they make. There were several other customers waiting at their table for services as well. The owner was not too friendly. They were overwhelmed. There customers waiting for a table. We had wait for someone to give us our check and to give them the check/money for us to leave. I told my family to walk towards the exit and I would give the check/money to the owner. She waved me off when I tried to give it to her.
