Stopped in today with babe since the other 2 spots we wanted were closed & to be honest, should've just stayed home lol. The fish on the raw sushi rolls are warm & it makes them taste extra fishy. This night I felt like some Asian food and one of my favorites is Sakura. As you enter you're greeted by the hostess and taken to your table. On this particular occasion the person that took our order was Jennifer, a very kind and attentive person. She took our order and checked on us periodically, she's very good at her job. The place is adequate in regard to seating, a larger group might need to wait a bit so they can accommodate you. Now the most important thing is; the food. You have a variety of options from fried rice to noodles and other dishes, they also offer a good variety of sushi's crafted to your liking. On this occasion I chose Hibachi Steak, the order comes with fried rice steamed vegetables and a side salad with Miso soup. The hibachi steak was absolutely delicious cooked just as you prefer, the teriyaki sauce brought a great kick and a delicious flavor to the meat. The soup was good as well as the salad which you can choose ranch or a ginger dressing. The vegetables and fried rice complemented the meal just right. Overall this a great option for Asian cuisine. Delicious food, especially the Bento Boxes! We go there a couple times a month and enjoy their sashimi rolls. What ever you do, don't order ice cream to go! A meat eater, a vegetarian and a celiac all enter Sakura... and the three of them will leave with a full stomach. There are options for everyone at Sakura. Did I mention they're also affordable and have excellent customer service? I ordered the spicy salmon and the baby green dragon hand rolls, jalapeño white tuna roll, and crazy yellowtail. - spicy salmon hand roll: good ratio of fish to rice, lots of spicy mayo and avocado. Could use a bit less of the spicy Mayo but that is my preference. - baby green dragon hand roll: I LOVEEEE seaweed salad and I will almost always order the roll if I see that it is topped with seaweed salad. I tried it as a hand roll this time and it did not disappoint! The snow crab was flavorful and was nicely enhanced by the cucumber and avocado without being overpowering. - Jalapeño white tuna: simple and classic roll with white tuna and diced jalapeños. Somehow I managed to eat a three Japanese steak hibachi spots in two days. This one was my favorite out of the three. I asked for steak and chicken and they brought out steak and shrimp lol. It was really good though. Which made me get steak and shrimp for the next two places I visited. Food: the steak was so tender and had lots of flavor. I really enjoyed the protein. The shrimp was just as good. The miso soup was decent. The fried rice was full of flavor. I really like the grilled veggies as well. I would definitely stop by again if I was in the area. Well, I don't come into this review lightly, because what was supposed to be a retry for a place I haven't been to in 4 years, as a possible back up for when our normal place is closed. Well it did not work out at all, as a matter of fact we will never go back or recommend this restaurant. I feel almost as if there is no redemption at this point. I have eaten sushi for well over 30 years. I have eaten at legendary establishments from Washington DC area to NYC and Austin, as well as Chicago and Dallas. When I arrived, my order was on a table near the hot entrance, not being refrigerated in the refrigerator that they have full of drinks. Nice if this also doubled to keep orders cold and fresh. It was a little warmer than I would have liked. Then, Never, and I mean Never have I had a bone in my sushi. Now keep in mind, all of us eat sushi in my house and we never have encountered bones. Yes I know there is a disclaimer, however, a good sushi chef is very careful about the art in which they clean, cut, and prepare the sushi. So I ordered the $80 worth of sushi for three of us. Little did I know that that small amount of sushi was going to end up costing us $20k. Yep, so my youngest was eating her hand roll and all the sudden started to scream about a sharp pain in her throat! Yep! I had her rinse and gargle, to no avail. She started gagging and throwing up all of her food, still no relief, so we headed to our local hospital. Well, after a check in, only to be transferred into San Antonio, followed by an emergency Larynxoscopy, it was retrieved. Luckily it had imbedded into her left tonsil and was pointed downward, as in. If we pull this and it slips it can cause more damage down the pipe. This was no small slice of bone, nor was it a tiny missable bone. It was an inch long and clingy. So much so, that the EnT Surgeon made a note of the fact that it was not easily placed into the specimen jar. I know lots of littles eat sushi now, but in this rushed and hurried world, if you can find a sushi chef who cares, stick with them. I feel like I cheated on my main chef because they were closed. Sushi was plentiful and delicious. 4 rolls, 2 teas, 2 salads for $42.00. No fancy presentation. But again. I care about taste. And the rolls were darn good and it hit the spot. Their food isn't very good anyway. Half the time the menu description doesn't even match what you actually get, at least with take-out. Also, the miso soup they give (if they even remember to) with take- out orders has no seaweed OR tofu in it. It's literally just the broth. Why would it not be the same miso they serve in the restaurant? IMO, that's management being cheap. Their bathroom is never clean and has been out of the basic necessity, hand soap, at least a couple times before. How are employees supposed to wash their hands?
