Amazing place!! We are so sorry to see Golden City close. We have eaten there many times and did take out as well. The food and customer service was amazing. The new place that took over is MALA CHILI, so we decided to try them. The gentleman who took my husband's order was very rude and said next time he won't take order over phone. Have to order online. He had very poor customer service. I walked in to pick up order and none of the tables had been cleaned off. Dirty dishes everywhere. For the price we expected a nice meal, but food was terrible. Let me just start by saying that this used to be a new Braunfels staple back in the day and it declined for years. I am very happy to say that I don't know if they got new owners or management but the food is outstanding. The service is amazing and this is quickly became a staple Chinese food for us in new Braunfels. (Inside also looks clean) The food comes out very quickly and is piping hot. Even our to-go orders are usually ready within 10-15 minutes. We normally get the hot and sour soup, sesame chicken, General Tso's, triple delight, or Kung pao chicken. All very, very good. Also, their crab Rangoon's are huge and my husband enjoys them . Portion sizes are good as well. Glad a friend told us to give them an another shot. We haven't had their sushi yet. I'm very sad to be making this review. This used to be our favorite Asian food place in town. We hadn't been by in a few months, and the changes are not good. There used to be a friendly family environment, and a wonderful atmosphere. Today the service was gruff, everything ordered on a tablet, and a loud ding constantly pinging through the restaurant as people placed orders. The food was ok, but definitely better before. I left a 5 star before. Now, they have completely lost our business. So sad to have lost a place our entire family loved so much. read more

Everyone has been raving about this place so we gave it a shot. It was busy and the air smelled greasy. They let us pick our spot. Server was great and attentive. Started with crab Rangoon. Crispy and served with warm sweet and sour. Good and crunchy. We had their lunch combos of shrimp fried rice they forgot the shrimp), sweet and sour chicken and happy family. When they first opened under new owner it was really good! I guess the money wasn't coming in fast enough, plates have gotten smaller along with the portions. Service is still great, but food has taken a nose dive. Lunch special came out with Luke warm egg roll, ordered combination on the L7 plate and it would not fill a cereal bowl. I ordered pork chow mein online, It doesn't look like any chow mein I have ever had. It has a red sauce, is very salty and it tastes terrible (I wasn't able to eat). Golden City- If I could give this place 0 stars I would. Our family ordered food delivery "from the company" or so we thought. 40 minutes after we order a door dasher messages us saying they are unable to deliver the food. After calling back and forth between the restaurant and the DoorDash driver (which we didn't even know we were ordering through DoorDash) the driver says "All of DoorDash is down." To which we call the restaurant, and are put on long hold again only to say they found a new driver. At this point it's an hour and a half later, and we are going to bed after making sandwiches, so we ask for a refund. Golden City says they can't give us a refund because it's through DoorDash. We didn't give our card number to DoorDash, we gave the info to the restaurant, how is this even possible? Nowhere on their site does it say they use a third party for delivery. If we knew this we would've ordered from a different restaurant or a pick up option. I will never be a Karen, but this is just poor customer service and people should know before they order what they are getting, or in this case not getting. read more

what a pleasant surprise this little restaurant was, We walked in the door and greeted extremely warmly by all the staff felt like we had just arrived home after a long trip I asked for the Singapore noodles but for them to be gluten-free and they accommodated me which is great and I appreciated their understanding and once the food actually came it was absolutely delicious My son had a noodle dish with shrimp that was delicious too, and he was very, very satisfied that. While the place seems a little lite on people when we entered, we saw many people come through for online orders. So there is certainly a clientele that enjoy this place. When we first moved here in 1995, this location was China Kitchen. At that time there were only two Chinese restaurants. It was wonderful. The location has had various owners during this time; some good, some so, so. However Golden City was great. It doesn't have the ambience of PF Chang's but it does have the quality of food . . I've been dreaming of moo sho pork since leaving Houston in 1995. Guess what? They have it!. It is a very good dish that is served on thin Chinese like crepes or tortillas. The servings are the size of the plate which is a standard 8 inch. I ate half and will eat the rest tonight. The ultimate praise was from my husband who is not very effusive but said, "It was really good and I'd come back again." He keeps these mental lists of places he won't go to again. We came here several years ago and it made the list. This time I assured him there was a different owner and we should give it a try. He would have leftovers tonight but he cleaned his plate.
