Dined on Friday night and had a reservation for 630pm. When we arrived, we expected it to be busy as we've dined at Sakura on two other occasions. The reservation was written down for 730pm. The host team did the best they could and had us seated in 15 minutes. Good recovery. Our server, Bailey, was kind and friendly. She was quick on drinks, soups, and salads. We waited quite a while for the Hibachi chef to arrive. A solid 30 minutes. He was great and made it fun. The chef, Bailey, and others apologized many times for the slow service. We were still having a nice time until the bill came. We looked at each other (the 5 of us) and said, "No dessert? Nothing was offered. No menu provided. Big miss! So we just paid the bill, tipped well, and left. There was a $45 discount on the bill that wasn't mentioned so I suspect this was the slow service or was it for not offering dessert? The hosts were friendly on the way out as well. This was definitely a 3-star experience on this trip, but we have had 5-star experiences in the past. This is the reason for the 4-star rating. Came to Sakura Friday night since it was highly recommended by a friend who recently went. We were on vacation and decided to treat ourselves. Waited 30 min. To be seated, which didn't feel long at all. We sat, did habachi, cook was entertaining, food was good, price seemed reasonable. Check came and we were charged extra for choosing fried rice and noddles. Mind you, menu doesn't show extra charge for this. When cook came he asked, if we'd like friend rice or noodles. No one ever asked if we wanted white rice or brown rice, why????? I asked about the extra charge and server said habachi comes with either white steamed rice or brown rice. Sorry, but I have never been to a habachi spot where the friend rice is an EXTRA charge. Isn't the fried rice part of the show???? This just didn't sit well, it seems like they're trying to sneak this extra charge on you. Server said she would remove it "this time" but not again. Don't worry lady, we won't be back! Be upfront with your extra charges instead of being shady and trying to sneak them in. Also, as soon as show is done bussers and servers are just staring at you so u can get up and leave. We came in tonight, May 16, after a long day at Bryce and Zion. We walked in and looked around and we were dressed down, like down. We were so hungry and we just want sushi. There were 4 people behind the reception table and that's good because there were piles of people inside! We were afraid we won't get a table fast because there were probably 30 people waiting both in and out. The receptionist asked if we're ok with sushi bar. We said yes and we were seated in 3 minutes, way ahead of everybody! There are 2 sections: habachi and sushi. We were of course seated at the sushi area. Our server's name was Star and she was lovely, highly attentive and efficient. We ordered sushi and yakisoba and everything was fresh and tasty! One of our favorite places to eat, specially when my group goes up to St George. Food, service and ambiance are wonderful. My only issue, specially for larger groups, is they do not take reservations on the weekends. That's an issue between the summer plays for sure. Still highly recommend. read more

I love a good Japanese Steakhouse and Sakura was a great find while in St. George. They have some really nice private areas with good views. The service was great and the food was even better. I really enjoyed the Miso soup and the Hibachi lobster. The only disappointment was their fried ice cream that they coated in breadcrumbs so the texture was really weird and the taste of the bread was off putting. The refreshing foyer with water all around, light colors and spacious but laughter and chatter in the background. There are two dining options: hibachi and traditional dining. We chose traditional. The bar for fresh sushi and the chemistry of the chefs brings additional enjoyment. The traditional attire was an added touch The sushi options left no one out. A typical hibachi restaurant. Sakura is run like a military operation with an army of employees: servers, cleaners, hostesses, chefs, and even a robot. However, with so many employees, our time at Sakura felt incredibly rushed. From the fast live-cooking performance, to the waiter quickly bringing us the check and continuously glancing at our table to see if we were wrapping up--all of that rushed service was just for average food. The sashimi was thick; I've never seen sashimi so thick before. The fish didn't melt in your mouth, though it tasted good enough. Skip the potstickers, as they tasted like any frozen bag you could get at the grocery store. The steak and filet mignon tasted good but were drenched in soy sauce. The hibachi room was overly loud, making it hard to hear anyone. I would skip Sakura if you're looking for a more Japanese styled restaurant for sushi unless you're in for a hurried show. Side note: While this didn't affect us, it was surprising to see the chef use the same tools to cook the raw meat, fish, and vegetables. This is a major health concern, especially since they didn't ask about any allergies or dietary restrictions at the beginning. read more

We loved every roll we ordered but the deep fried oysters? I've had better. It's a little spendy but the atmosphere and the food are top notch. Our bill came to $213 with tip. We ordered 4 rolls, 2 or 3 orders of potstickers, edamame, crab rangoons, fried oysters and 2 salads. That fed 6 adults and two children. Can't wait to go back and try the hibachi! read more

Our waitress was quick and efficient We all liked the onion soup but I would refer normal noodles not those hard wheat ones. Our chef had a good attitude did a good show. However the last squirt of soy sauce on the rice by daughter felt was too much and she was right best too much soy sauce flavor. Overpowering. More vegetables are needed. It's only mushroom, onion and zucchini. How about some peas, some broccoli. Or more. The fried rice also needs peas or more egg. It was just tiny bit of egg and no Veges. Felt high-end to me. The building is beautiful, and has a dancing pad for the kids as they go through the front door. We had a great time in the Habachi room where a chef (I think) cooked our meal on a hot grill table in front of us. Of course, he did tricks with the spatulas and created an onion ring volcano where fire came out of it. It is very noisy, though, you won't be able to carry much of a conversation. Absolutely fantastic experience! The atmosphere and vibe here are beautiful, such a fun and lively spot for dinner. We went for hibachi, and everything from start to finish was spot on. We started with edamame, which came out hot, fresh, and delicious. I ordered a Blue Hawaiian, served in the cutest mermaid/fish-scale style glass, such a fun touch! For dinner, I had the filet and lobster with fried rice, while my husband had the filet with fried rice and noodles (yes, you pay extra for fried rice/noodles, but it's 100% worth it). We also got yum yum sauce (called shrimp sauce here), and it was absolutely delicious. Everything was cooked perfectly and tasted so fresh. Our chef was personable, funny, and really made the dinner feel like an experience, not just a meal. Since we mentioned it was our anniversary trip, the staff surprised us with a chocolate-drizzled cheesecake platter, so thoughtful and a perfect sweet ending. Service was good. Wait staff was friendly. We were seated with a couple around 830pm. Fried rice was ok. So then some concerns. The couple seated next to us had ordered salmon. The cook put the raw chicken, salmon, shrimp and steak right next to each other. The cook was using the same tools to turn over the raw meat and then would touch the vegetables right after. That's not good nor safe. The salmon got somehow fused with some shrimp and the smell of overcooked salmon permeated the air. Unfortunately the shrimp was not edible as the fishy salmon was stuck all over the shrimp. We didn't eat the shrimp a the head person there asked us if there was anything wrong and I said I just didn't like it. She did offer to remove it from our bill but we declined (we didn't ask for it to be removed). I appreciate the attempt though. Fee birthday desert was nice. read more

The manager was on top of EVERYTHING! The guy behind the Habachi grill put a bunch of sauce on my 6yr old's chicken, and he was starving. When he started getting teary-eyed, the Manager came over & asked if he wanted a steamed piece of chicken with pepper & salt. He did! My scallops were cooked well, but I was missing a lot of the marinating flavors of slowly cooked scallops. One of the best restaurant experiences I have ever had. The restaurant is very modern, beautiful decorations, relaxing ambient music, everything you would expect from an upscale Japanese restaurant. Our waiter was very attentive, and when we said that we were in a bit of a rush and couldn't spend much time, the manager came over to us to let us know that they were putting a rush/priority in our food -- extremely considerate action that was totally not necessary but greatly appreciated! My wife and I visited this restaurant on Friday 5/1 to kick off our anniversary trip. The wait wasn't terrible considering it was a Friday night, and service wasn't bad. The reason for the one star review is the quality of the food. The food was bland and lacking seasoning except for the soup which tasted like you were putting salt directly on your tongue. We tried to give them the benefit of the doubt, but the next morning I woke up with severe food poisoning, and spent the whole day stuck in my hotel room sick. We've called the restaurant, left a voicemail, and wrote in. We have not heard back. While we were initially excited to try this restaurant after driving by it for years, we will not be returning, and won't recommend this venue to anyone. They seem to have more focus on branding and being flashy, rather than proper food handling. read more

Food we ordered: - 2 piece shrimp sushi - 2 piece salmon sashimi - Philly roll - shrimp teriyaki with miso soup, salad, and steamed white rice. The food quality was fantastic and you could definitely tell that the fish was very fresh. Our only complaint was the packaging with the sauces was not very secure so when we brought the bag back, there was sauces leaking all over which was a bummer and difficult to clean up. They have plastic containers. I wish they would've used instead of Styrofoam to help fix this from happening again. The food was ready at the time. The staff was super friendly when we called to ask about gluten friendly options. All in all this place was fantastic and we will come back here next time we are in St. George. read more

St. George isn't known for fine cuisine, but Sakura is working to change that. It's smartly located right off a freeway exit and has good signage for visibility. Getting there is a wee bit tricky; they are at the end of a road with a ridiculous amount of street parking that makes you feel like you've wandered into a car lot. But once you get past all of that, you find a private parking lot and a cherry tree lined walkway to the front door. Sure, the cherry blossoms are fake, but they do look nice, especially with the red rocks in the background. Have some imagination with me. The decor is beautiful and inviting as you enter into the lobby area. Staff members cheerfully greet you and offer hibachi or dine-in service. In my opinion, hibachi is the way to go-it's a meal and a show! Our experience was great, and the food was terrific. We had a variety of chicken and beef along with ample veggies, soup and rice. Everything was cooked perfectly and seasoned deliciously. My family and I enthusiastically recommend Sakura and will happily return when we are in town again. read more

There was a line out of the door when we arrived. That should let you know how good this place really is. The girls at the front counter were extremely kind and efficient, too. This must be a go-to spot for locals for their hibachi/sushi needs. I came with my family for vacation and many tables were already full when they opened for dinner. The interior is beautiful, clean, and very spacious. We were able to be seated immediately for non-hibachi. The sushi is mainly crab meat/spicy tuna rolls with different fish on top. I wish there was more variety in fillings and flavors. You typically get 10 pieces per roll unless otherwise stated so you get a good meal with 1-2 rolls. We decided to make St. George our pit-stop for the night before we head back home to the OC after attending a family reunion in Heber. Our group pretty much occupied one station, after getting all settled and ordering what we want, our Chef du jour arrived with his accoutrements and weapons of masterful food preparation, he was very entertaining and the food was seasoned and cooked nicely. We all enjoyed watching him prepare and have fun preparing and cooking our meals - it was such a treat! Sakura will very much remind you of Benihana but in my honest opinion the cook station is pretty much where the similarities come and end. The restaurant from the moment you walk towards the imposing front door, the lovely foyer with the aquarium divider and the digital interactive floor already gives a wow factor, the staff donned in colorful Japanese inspired Kimonos are nice to see as well, truly in-keeping with the restaurant's theme. The hibachi experience was so much fun--our chef was entertaining, engaging, and cooked everything to perfection. Was fun catching shrimp thrown by the chef with all the fire! The sushi was fresh and beautifully presented, and the staff went out of their way to make sure our group had a great time. They were super accommodating with our party and kept everything running smoothly. To be fair, this place is no different than any other hibachi restaurant out there. I suppose that being one of the rare Asian restaurant (it seems) in the St. George area, it has received all the accolades it displays front of house. Speaking of the lobby area, please do everyone a favor a get rid of the obnoxious screen floor that has unruly kids stomping purposefully as if to break the screen. Even soft footed individuals just got in the way of patrons entering or exiting. Food... again, par for the course. Nothing bad but moreover nothing spectacular to warrant me to frequent the establishment. Service... for your server to have to ask to see your menu to make sure certain items were included or forgetting to bring ginger and wasabi with a sushi order doesn't garner a five star rating let alone four. Ambiance... we were lucky to be given a small private room. However, that screen floor with kids stomping and awful kimono outfits the hostesses were wearing left a bad lasting impression. I really wanted to give a four star rating at the very least for the overall experience but just couldn't because of the above. read more
