We were on the waitlist for a nearby restaurant when we noticed Benja's. It didn't take long to decide to make a detour and go here instead-especially since there was no wait! Our server was friendly and attentive and the food came out quickly. I enjoyed the Pad See U and my dining partner had the teriyaki chicken. We found this spot on Yelp and it got 4 star reviews so we decided to give it a shot. We drove in from Vegas that morning for the day and we worked up quite the appetite after 9 miles of hiking. We were looking forward to some yummy hot food. My husband ordered the Chicken Pad Thai and I ordered the Garlic Chicken & broccoli. We shared an order of Rangoons. If I'm being perfectly honest the food was just ok IMO. I purposely ordered my dish with no sauce bc I don't care for my food to be swim in a sodium, sugar & oil mixture masking whatever flavor the protein & veggies present on their own. I actually WANT to taste them. I didn't expect my mind to be blown by my dish for that reason. I knew what I was getting & honestly my food was very good. The chicken breast was good quality, cooked nicely and cut into small bite sized pieces as was the broccoli. Just what I wanted. Now I DID want to splurge a bit which is why we got the fried stuff too. Now for the not so impressive part. The stuff that was supposed to blow my mind bc it was fried, came with sauce and lots of spice just fell flat. The Rangoons had very little flavor. They were even slightly under cooked it seemed. The corners were the only part that were crispy and the part closest to the middle was barely cooked. Not my fav. I like a very crispy rangoon. Maybe that's just my preference. I sampled my husband's pad Thai, also a bust. Hardly an spice or flavor. He ordered a 3 out of 5 and there was hardly any heat. Maybe my Vegas taste buds have been spoiled or maybe this is a different style of the Thai we're not used to. At any rate I'm only giving it 3 out of 5 stars based on the food itself. The restaurant was in an interesting looking built stone building & plaza and the interior was decorated with a pretty traditional Asian-Thai theme. This place was packed on a Sat night too! Highly recommend. We Love to come have Sushi here at Benja's when in St Gorge, Utah. The sushi is always so fresh and delicious! The service has always been excellent for us too! Love the Ambiance. It's so pretty inside and I really love the big windows which makes this restaurant so nice and bright and welcoming. My favorite roll is the Green Baby roll. The cilantro and spicy garlic sauce is so freakin good. I also love the Mr. Burk roll and my favorite appetizer is the Basil rolls. Yum! Visited St. George for a couple days. Found this place online with good reviews. We were seated quickly even though there was a wait. The atmosphere is very nice. We want Thai food but also some Sushi. I ordered a Red Curry, wife got Yellow Curry. We also shared a Sushi Deluxe plate. Both curries were absolute knockers. Would go back there just for these dishes again. The Sushi was bland, not very fresh, and I wish I hadn't ordered it at all. And this was a platter so it was a bit of everything. While we were visiting St. George we went into Benja's and we were pleasantly surprised. The service was good, a bit slower but nothing to complain about. We had the drunken noodles and they were a solid 8/10 The TomYum was 10/10 for me! The sushi was not the best. If you're contemplating on going here just stick to the Thai food. It is a small place and from what we heard it's usually a long wait but thankfully we didn't have to wait very long. read more

Benjas was a great stop! Cute venue right in downtown, had a lovely group atmosphere. Service was quick and even tho it was busy we got seated quickly. Appetizers of crab wontons and spring rolls were nothing super special but were tasty. But where it's at is the curry!! We got both red and yellow- my personal fave being the red. It was creamy and flavorful. I would recommend getting a bit spicer than you think. 3 was below average spicy and I like spicy so I would get a 4 next time. This is utah folks haha. I had a late lunch at Benja's with friends and was pleasantly surprised by the spacious interior and tons of seats: not crowded at all when I went. Parking was easy to find nearby, just a short walk away. The service was super friendly and fast, which I always appreciate. I was impressed with the large menu. There's a variety of Thai and sushi. The Thai iced tea was perfectly sweet and refreshing. Both the Las Vegas roll and the Kilamanjaro rolls were okay, but not amazing: too saucy, but lacked flavor, and way too much batter fried over the roll. However, their Thai dishes are where it's at! My friends loved the yellow curry and pad thai. The crab wontons we got for the table were also delicious and we were tempted to get the curry versions which we saw on the menu too (but were too full). Tonight I had the opportunity to try their Sunset roll. It is a simple roll that has yellow tail, salmon, and some scallions. It was just what I was looking for in a light appetizer to start my meal. For my main course I had to try their Musaman curry with chicken. It is a sweeter curry so if you like spice I would recommend getting a higher level or request the spice rack. I ordered a 3 out of 5 and still needed to add some extra spice to it. However, the taste of this curry was fantastic and would recommend it to anyone wanting some good curry!! Do not go to this restaurant if you're a person of color, because I have experienced the same disrespect multiple times. Once I came with my family and we did not get our food for almost an hour and a half while others who have gotten similar entrées to us such as even a simple fried rice have gotten it before us and we got there first. And then today me and my fiancé were sat down and politely waited for 50 minutes and then decided to leave because nobody had even talk to us. Delightful spot in the historic Pioneer Square. Great ambience with windows throughout, tables not too close together, and nice decor. Also, not loud. Service was a little bit slow due to understaffing on the holiday. Our waitress was fantastic at pointing out which menu items could be made gluten free. All three dishes we ordered were fantastic. I could drink the dressing for the steak salad. The meat was tender and the dish was substantial. Hubs liked his orange chicken very much. Daughter (who has celiac disease) loved the gluten free noodle dish the waitress recommended. It was full of veg, shrimp, and sauce with the vermicelli noodles. This restaurant is in a cute little area that also has other restaurants and shops. Parking can get crowded during busy seasons. We ordered the drunken noodles, which were absolutely delicious, and the shrimp spring rolls, which included two really good dipping sauces. A couple days ago on January 8th around 8pm my girlfriend and I went here for our three year anniversary and it did not disappoint! I got the St. George fried rice with crispy chicken. We tried eating here twice. The first time was for takeout. We ordered the yellow curry, and we're very disappointed. They do not use coconut cream in their curries, they only use cow milk. Anyone who eats curry on the regular knows that cow milk dilutes, and reduces the potency of spices in a curry. So their curries are uninspired and bland. I know it's filled with cow milk and not coconut milk because I'm lactose intolerant. About an hour after eating the curry my stomach hurt so bad and I was bloated. I was unable to function for another couple days because they dont respect their patrons and follow their menu. Despite this obvious lie about their ingredients, we went back to find out if their sushi was decent or not. On the whole, most of their fish is fresh enough to serve as sushi. The meat is definitely sushi quality, but they served us sticky raw scallops that were very much not fresh, and they actually made us a little queasy. Nothing on the level of food poisoning, but also something that a quality sushi restaurant would never serve as it was already gone bad, fit only for dog food. Combine this with the absolutely terrible nonexistent service, and the refusal to give us anything to drink other than just plain water despite the other offerings on their menu, and we have decided we will never come back. The silver lining is, there is a nice ice cream place across the street that we were watching through the window while we waited an hour for our food, that we decided we shall try soon, plus there was a cute breakfast place with a lovely patio and professional cappachino machine that we had to pass to get to this restaurant that looked promising. It had plenty of chicken but not a lot of mushrooms or anything else. The yellow curry was really good but also really sweet. So... I don't like leaving bad reviews. But I felt the need to for here. We love Thai, in fact, we just had Thai the night before as we drove through Vegas on our way here to St. George. Wanting to keep our delicious dinner streak going, we went to the highly rated Benja's. We were... severely disappointed. We ordered 2 sushi rolls, duck pad Thai, beef salad, and a sweet and sour chicken. The 2 sushi rolls were some of the poorest sushi we've had. The spicy tuna had no spice or flavor whatsoever, it was more just orange paste. Our sushi came out before our hot dishes and we should've known how the rest of the meal would go. The beef salad was probably the most "fine" thing there. Nothing really standout, but compared to the rest of the meal it was the most edible. The pad Thai was not your regular pad Thai flavor. It had more of a peanut butter flavor than your traditional fish sauce/tamarind with peanut accents flavor. The sweet and sour chicken... The worst by far. Every single thai restaurant I have ever eaten at, the chicken is typically stir fried for this dish. Literally google "Thai sweet and sour chicken" and look at every single image that pops up. This is not the case here. It is "crispy chicken" and crispy it absolutely was not. The chicken in this dish was a soggy, breaded chicken breast that was sliced into long chunks. The sauce was not a light, sweet and savory flavor. It was a heavy, lumpy, bland mush. We couldn't finish it. The server was very nice, she was the only positive part of the experience. I asked for some peppers and Thai chili to try and add some flavor to my pad Thai, and she offered us even better, fresh Thai chili's they just got. She recommended we take it slow, as it was very hot. Well... after taking a straight spoonful of the chilis for a taste test, we dumped the whole bowl into the pad Thai and still didn't break a sweat. Benja's is definitely one of the best restaurants in St. George. We made a reservation for a Friday night and we are so glad we did. It was packed when we arrived! However, we were seated right at our reservation time. Our waitress was so kind and helpful. She provided great recommendations. We started with the crab wontons and a Las Vegas roll. The wontons were crispy but not as hot was I would of liked. There were some that didn't have as much filling as the others but they were good and I would order them again. The Vegas roll was crispy, hot, and flavorful. Absolutely loved it. We ordered the yellow curry and pad Thai as our entrees. I really like their chicken pad Thai but it always need more chicken in my opinion. They seem to always give a very small portion. However, I loved the flavor and the peanuts were a nice crunch. The pad Thai is very flavorful and the noodles are soft and cooked well. The yellow curry with chicken is probably some of the best I've ever had. It's so dang good and flavorful. They have a generous amount of meat, onion, potato, and carrots. The potatoes were tender and cooked so well. Loved the crunch of the carrots. The chicken was tender as well. Overall I think Benja's was an great choice for our Saturday night out and I enjoyed the food and atmosphere. We happened to go on a night with lots of high schoolers all grabbing dinner before heading to their dance and sometimes that can ruin the evening for me because they can be a little loud and obnoxious, but it wasn't an issue for us and we enjoyed our evening. Our waitress, Katya, was great at giving us recommendations and was kind enough to warn us about the longer wait times for sushi. I especially like that they have sushi and thai food options instead of one or the other. The menu is still pretty extensive and you'll definitely be happy with whatever you decide to order. We had two sushi rolls and the orange chicken, splitting a little of each between the two of us and it was the perfect amount of food. My only hesitation was with our appetizer, the Tempura Calamari.
