Don't go to this place in the evening. My son is an international student in Barcelona and was the victim of minor fraud that was supported by some of the night staff. What happened: On January 13th (at around 9 PM - I hope the owner of the business investigates his staff on this), my son and his roommate were having dinner there. He said that within a few minutes, a small group of men assembled outside of the restaurant. They then entered the restaurant and starting playing music at the tables and demanding money, even though my son and his roommate did not solicit them. They would not leave until my son gave them 8 Euros. Next, these people spoke to the staff in a language that was not Spanish or English and they were pointing at my son and his roommate and it was heard that they were mentioning that they were "Americans". Next, 4 items showed up that were not ordered by my son or his roommate and they said they did not order these items. The restaurant staff refused to reconcile this and forced my son to pay an extra 15 Euros for the items that he did not order and did not touch/eat. I am filing this complain on Google because it is obvious that the people in the restaurant have some kind of scam going with these people that entered the restaurant. They are failing to secure the restaurant from these people enterring and demainding money. I fault the restaurant for allowing these people in and for ripping my son off of about 25 EUR. The staff involved should be investigated and fired. An international traveller should be able to enjoy a meal without being ripped off and harassed. read more

Absolutely fantastic experience! Once a hidden gem in the port, this spot is quickly earning its place as the go-to destination for authentic paella. The staff gave our birthday group a genuinely warm welcome and made the evening feel special from start to finish. Don't miss the paella perelada, where the seafood is expertly prepared out of the shell, or the paella tintada, rich with squid ink and brimming with shell-on seafood. It was relatively pricey and the staff were extremely pushy about a tip, even though it's not customary and the receipt says two different times it's not expected. The paella's seafood had sand, the lobster was not cleaned and was not very appetizing. Nothing to get to the inside of the shellfish either. This seems like a tourist trap. Buyer beware. Ordered Paella Especial ( more expeensive dish ) for 2. The fish was so overcooked (it was either rubbery or dry) it was inedible. The waiter had no response ( or apology) when we told him. If you don't want to pay for the bread, tell them to remove it from the table or they will charge you for it. read more

The food quality was only put done by the incredible service we received on our visit. Sadly the day we visited the weather was not great but we still enjoyed patio seating since they had it enclosed with heating. We were able to enjoy the ocean views while staying warm. Food was good and I enjoyed a bottle of wine with my wife. We also appreciated the service from the waiter. The only complaint I have is that they bring you bread non stop if you continue eating it and charge you 5 euros for it when I thought it was complementary. I was charged for sparkling water which was never delivered but they removed it from the bill. Being from the US I didn't feel they were pushy with the tipping but based on European standards I can see why it's been mentioned here. We were told this restaurant was "where the locals go," but our experience was very disappointing. The staff was pushy and rude from the start. We ordered paella for two, yet were served and charged for paella for four, then argued with and accused of lying when we questioned it. Food and drinks we clearly declined (desserts, shots, bread) were repeatedly pushed on us, creating an uncomfortable experience. Musicians also pressured us to tip by holding a tip can in front of us. The calamari was good, but the constant pressure, incorrect charges, and poor service ruined the meal. I would not recommend this place unless you're comfortable being pushed into ordering and paying for items you didn't want. read more

This place used to be my go to spot whenever in Barcelona but it has unfortunately become a tourist trap! Dirty menus, flavorless food, Spanish waiters all got replaced by Indian rude waiters that rush you and demand tip at the end! The waiter actually said pay me for my service! Now in Europe tipping isn't part of the culture! I always tip even in EU but for it to be demanded!! Never going back! I would have been fine if the food was great but they probably replaced their kitchen staff as well! 3.5 stars because the price is ridiculously expensive 36 euros per person for a pallela, minimum two person. However the pallela itself was tasty. They flavored it very well. The location on the beachfront is great though. However, say no to bread because they charge you and it is very very bad :/ Pulpo (octopus) was very soft but bland. Liked the olive oil they used but again, very price around 30 euros. Overall, if you can find somewhere cheaper, would recommend you go somewhere else. Recommended by our tour guide as a solid place by the ocean to get paella and other seafood. It surely was crowded! Reservations recommended. Seafood substantially priced. Quality not the best still, above average. One not to like to choose, I ordered a sampling of mixed seafood steamed. It was a nice generous portion. Could have used a light seasoning or sauce on the side. Also tried the pulpo de la gallega, a specialty of the area. The squid was nice and abundantly tender but lacked substantial flavor. My favorite of the evening was the scallops baked with Jamon and a creme sauce. Dining available inside or outside. We opted for outside and it was nice and casual. We go to Barcelona to take a cruise. We ask multiple people where to eat, we wanted to get authentic pallea and were willing to travel for it. This place came up multiple times, so there we went. It was...okay. Am I not made for Barcelona food? Are my taste buds wrong? I hate judging food abroad, as maybe this is REALLY good to locals and what I'm expecting is completely off of what they would expect, but I truly felt my homemade paella far exceeded what we received here. This is a can't miss place along La barcelonetta! We arrived right at opening and were able to get a table for two with no wait , however if you plan on going later make sure to have a reservation. Food was great. We were seated right away even though they looked packed. We got our food within minutes. The servers were quick... not talkative as they were so busy. Our friends are local and suggested we come here: they said it is a traditional restaurant for Spain. You get green olives and bread with olive oil, tomatoes sauce on it for free. Love that. This restaurant is right on the beach. (Across the sidewalk from the sand) you can feel the energy in the atmosphere because people are very loud and enjoying their company. Salamanca is a touristy yet historic and fun restaurant located right on the beach of Barceloneta, and the featured items on the menu included paellas and seafood (of course)! The seafood paella here had a deep, seafoody flavor from the saffron broth, and the rice dish also came with small shrimps, calamari, mussels, and head-on prawns, and a squeeze of lemon brought all the flavors together. We also had the Parrillada de Pescado y Marisco "Salamanca," a generous mixed plate of grilled seafood including Scampi, Prawns, Clams, Mussels, Monkfish, Hake, and Squid. All of the seafood was super fresh and delicious, though my favorites were the squid and the red prawns! So much food Another great find by my wife, and an excellent choice for dinner. She wanted to try their Fideua, a paella style dish that uses short noodles instead of rice. It was great, and so much food. The restaurant actually offers a list of dishes, such as this one, where they state it is for a minimum of 2 people. In fact, we were looking at an appetizer and our server discouraged us, too much food. Thank you for doing that. Not only large but very good, and while I particularly liked the noodles, the seafood was fine as well. While the food and service were good, we encountered serious billing discrepancies. The restaurant overcharged us by nearly doubling the weight of our seafood order (850 grams instead of 400). Even after correcting this, the revised bill still overcharged for shrimp (800 grams instead of 200). Additionally, we felt pressured to choose from the seafood display. Touristy due to having a great location and history of hosting celebrities. There were 8 of us and the seafood was fresh. Sangria was sweet with barely any alcohol and I'm a lightweight after a glass of regular wine. As with many places, beverages and the tomato bread are extra charges which usually comes out to what we would have tipped in the US. However the menu prices are higher to start. A photographer asked to take our photo and then tried to sell it to us for $5. At the end they brought some cake and schappes which was nice until the waiter asked for a tip. I am extremely grateful that we chose to have dinner here on our wedding anniversary. We were seated at an upstairs table with an amazing waiter who treated us like royalty. His exceptional service, combined with his passion for the restaurant's long history, made our night perfect. To top it off, we were serenaded by a group of musicians playing traditional Spanish songs. I hate to say anything negative, but maintaining food quality can be challenging for a restaurant as busy as Salamanca's. So we came here on the recommendation of a tour guide, who taught cooking classes as well, and said that if we didn't have time for her class, this was the best place to try an authentic delicious paella. And being in Spain for the first time, obviously were hunting for just that! And what we got was undercooked rice once again, that did not have that much depth when it came to flavor. Now I understand that the undercooked rice part is my issue. As a Persian woman, I just cannot understand undercooked rice. Or over cooked rice. Not perfectly cooked rice is a sin to me. But still, being in a different country, I decided to overlook that deeply off-putting detail and focus on the flavors instead. If this rice had been perfect, what would it taste like then? Absolutely nothing! Undercooked rice in ocean water with some tomato pure and too much salt! That's what it tasted like! For appetizers we got baby squids, and we wanted a kind of fried shrimp in shell dish that we had at other places and they said they could do it, but they just brought a small plate of breaded fried shrimp. It was alright and we appreciated the effort. We also had their Sangria, it was alright. Our bill for these 4 items came out to 130 euros, which really hurt because we had much much better food for a half that price, but what can you do? read more

Despite the fact I should have be alerted just by hearing its name, I ended up going in, giving it the benefit of doubt based on the overwhelmingly "positive" reviews contributed. Man, I was so wrong. So wrong. Not gonna dive into too my subjective feelings, just listing a few obvious red flags below: 1. Outrageously priced items. For example, €5.50+ for one oyster? Lol. Most of the oysters I had in Manhattan was priced $5/piece if not slightly lower and Manhattan's median house hold income is about 4x that of Barcelona so just use your judgement 2. Frozen seafood marketed as fresh. Don't believe me? Just go order some shrimps and you will see. Oh, don't even get me started on the that shellfish 3. Diluted ketchup and hot sauce. Like who adds water into the sauces? Water + sauce = WEAK sauce (and very weak indeed). I get the importance of margin and profitability but this is just not great 4. The worst part, and not even about food. Server attempted to force the elderly woman in our group to tip. And when she refused, they openly mocked her. No respect at all (I thought the Salamancas care about "respect" but guess I was wrong!) TLDR version: Run! Run away if you are thinking about going there! This restaurant is in a good location near the beach, so the ambience is great. The service was friendly. I always like to try seafood I haven't had before, so I tried the grilled monkfish. It came out very rubbery and chewy. I just googled it and apparently, unless it's cooked properly, monkfish is know to be very meaty and rubbery. I guess that means they didn't cook my fish well. My wife's steak was fine. The place is busy and clearly does well with tourists. Toilets not very clean! I forgot to say, when I wrote this first, that the waiter asked me if he could add a 10 euro tip. He caught me by surprise, and I said, yes. Reading other reviews I see they have a habit at this restaurant of doing this.
