We wandered in off Calle Ocho and the room was already alive: salsa playing, people talking over each other in the best way, that lively Cuban restaurant buzz you come to this neighborhood for. The Cuban food is the real thing, generous plates, classic flavors, and it pairs perfectly with a cold daiquiri from the bar. Staff were friendly and kept the night moving. Honest notes so you go in smart. It is right in the tourist corridor, so at peak times expect a short wait for a table and a room that gets loud when the music is going. This is a place for a fun, social night out, not a quiet dinner. Pricing is fair for the area and the portions back it up. Four stars: great atmosphere, solid authentic food, knock off one only because it leans busy and touristy like everything on this stretch. Salao was truly a tale of two experiences. The evening started on a very positive note. Upon arrival, we were told our table would be ready shortly, and while the wait ended up being about 15 minutes, it hardly felt inconvenient. The hostess was attentive, checked on us regularly, and worked to ensure we received one of the best available tables. The restaurant's open layout also allowed us to enjoy the live music while we waited, and the band was fantastic, creating a lively and authentic atmosphere. Where there is an opportunity for improvement is with the table service. The food, ambiance, and entertainment are all strong enough to make Salao a destination restaurant. Unfortunately, the service at the table did not match the quality of the overall experience. The wait staff was polite, but there was very little engagement, warmth, or effort to make guests feel welcomed and valued. A more attentive and accommodating approach would elevate the entire dining experience and better reflect the quality of the establishment. That said, the atmosphere, music, and hospitality shown by the hostess left a strong impression. With some additional focus on the customer-facing service experience, Salao has all the ingredients to be truly exceptional. read more

We happened to be walking down Calle Ocho and were brought in by the live music and free salsa classes. It was happy hour bogo $13.99 drinks. We sat and were greeted we ordered 1st round cosmo and a Moscow mule. For the kids lemonades and a piña colada. When the drinks came they were amazing! The lemonades had fresh strawberry and Mangos in them. We ordered croquettas for appetizers and arroz morro, maduros and arroz blanco con frijoles negros for the kids. The food was great! The 2nd round of our bogo drinks were old fashioneds. Prob one of the best I've had. They had live salsa band playing in the background and a man live salsa dancing. 10/10 read more

This was our second time to visit and it did not disappoint! The staff was very attentive as they were the last time. The atmosphere was lively and fun and remains so throughout the evening. We enjoyed multiple appetizers and an incredible hole red snapper that was prepared perfectly. The surprise of the evening was the shrimp. Had not had it this way before an absolutely loved it! Had an amazing Friday night at Sala'o Cuban Restaurant & Bar! From the moment we walked in, the vibe was lively, welcoming, and full of that authentic Cuban energy that just makes you want to relax and enjoy the night. I ordered the vaca frita and it was absolutely on point -- perfectly crispy on the outside, tender and flavorful on the inside, and seasoned just right. The enchilado de camarones was just as impressive. The shrimp were fresh, cooked perfectly, and swimming in a rich, savory sauce that had just the right amount of kick. We started with empanadas and wow... easily some of the best I've had. Crispy, golden, and packed with flavor. You can tell everything is made with care. And the drinks? Just as good as the food. Well-balanced, refreshing, and the perfect complement to a fun Friday night atmosphere. We came here during a tour back in November a cultural and culinary tour of Little Havana. We liked it so much that we decided to return when friends came in from out of town. We were staying in Jupiter for a work trip and decided to drive to Miami on our last night to check out Little Havana. I'd looked at a few restaurants on Calle Ocho and Sala'o stood out with its live music and entertainment. We made reservations while driving down (leave early on a Friday to avoid some of the I95 traffic) and were placed on the side without live music. It was very quiet and we were the only people on that side. We asked to be moved to the other side and were quickly accommodated. The atmosphere on the main side was lively and the entire reason we chose to eat here. Roxana was our server. She was great. I ordered the Churrasco with tostones. Phenomenal! The steak was perfectly marinated and cooked. The tostones were delicious as well. I tried my boyfriend's maduros which were also delicious. The band was great and the decor enhanced the ambiance. It was mine and my partner's last evening in the Little Havana neighborhood, so we wanted to experience authentic Cuban food. I research, read reviews, and called for a reservation. You'll need to make a reservation, especially on a Friday or Saturday evening because this establishment can get packed. The service and entertainment was exceptional but the food made the experience even more enjoyable. I loved every single dish we tried! The establishment is very pretty and our server was amazing and super nice! Appetizer: Calamares Fritos - this dish is fried but not overally battered. On the side, they'll provide you with a lemon and a citrus dark sauce, which pairs well with the Calamares. Entrees: I will rate both mine and my partner's dish since I was able to taste both. - Ropa Vieja: braised shredded beef soaked in flavorful spices, which pairs well with Arroz Moro (rice and black beans). I loved how this dish provided a lot of spiced flavors but it was not overpowering. The only thing I could provide feedback on is to reduce the amount of salt (just a bit). -Filete de Corvina: a fish filet with amazing well balanced flavors of spiced and citrus with a side of vegetables and potatoes. I loved how meaty the fish was and how flavorful it was. Overall, we enjoyed this restaurant and Cuban experience. Most definitely, I would recommend this place to family, friends, people on the street, and those visiting the area. It's beyond worth it and the price range will not hurt your pockets. read more

An absolute must when you're in Miami. Live music on a Friday night and the waiters even salsa a little in between serving. The food was authentic and delicious. OMG I had the best time at Sala'o!! Really nice Cuban spot in the heart of little Havana. So many nearby spots to grab a drink or go dancing or even smoke a cigar. Went to celebrate my friends birthday and took advantage of their Spice menu. It was an amazing deal: choose one appetizer, one entree with one side, one dessert and one cocktail per person for $45 during the week. I added a chicken soup and it was the best one I've ever had. So delicious. I tried their calamari, I believe the menu said rings but I also got tentacles in mine, entree was the swordfish with maduros..it was delicious, dessert was caramel mousse and it was perfection !! Wilma our server was on top of everything! All of the staff were friendly and attentive. Drinks were really good but the mojito and la guara tastes a bit watered down. Highly recommend their espresso martini and old fashioned!!!! Must try!! My friend wasn't fond of the churassco. It was but too fatty but everyone else loved it and said melted in their mouths. The best apps were the shrimp coctel and the to stone relleno. There is entertainment every night. They had live music when I went and even sang happy birthday to our birthday girl. A terrible and completely abusive experience. This restaurant charged me unfairly, and when I complained about it, they acted arrogantly and showed zero intention of fixing the issue. It honestly feels like they expect customers not to review the bill so they can charge whatever they want. I went to the restaurant in person to file a complaint, and absolutely nothing was resolved. The next day, I called again trying to solve the situation, and the manager wouldn't even take my call. As of now, I still have no solution, no explanation, and no real concern shown by the restaurant. The service was terrible, and the customer service was even worse. Extremely unprofessional, and honestly it makes the place feel untrustworthy when they handle payments this way. Make sure to carefully review your bill before paying because you could easily end up being overcharged without any clear explanation. I definitely will not be coming back, and I do not recommend this place at all. read more

There was a live band, dancers and a DJ that would alternate throughout the night to keep the crowd entertained. To eat we ordered croquetas to share - they were perfectly crispy on the outside. For my entrée, I had the Ropa Vieja; a flavorful braised and shredded flank steak soaked in a stew accompanied with tostones. The dish was hearty and tasty. In the heart of Little Havana, this popular restaurant is usually always busy. Popping in on a Saturday evening around 6pm, we got one of the last tables left. To eat, we loved the Cubano sandwiches and our daughter loved their black beans with a side of rice. The frozen drinks were not great. I am on vacation from California,made a reservation week in advance, misleading reviews portrayed good food and a " tropical show " advertised in site for that specific night during the week.(Which never happened ) They had live music and a couple dancing on stage the whole night but not a show as described - Drinks arrived in a timely manner , appetizers ordered were brought to table incorrectly, which is not a big deal , maybe I misunderstood or vise versa. The vibes were good with the music. They had a live performance and it seems like they have performers there on certain days. Service was great and they were quick to get our food! We got the Cuban crackers with the dip and it was absolutely delicious. We also got the calamari and it was amazing! I didn't get pictures of our main entrees since it smelled amazing and we were very hungry. We got the Pollo Guajiro and Lonjas Lechon de Asado and omg it was amazing! Too loud to have a conversation during the music, but that's kinda the vibe. However, the space is very cramped, and our reservation for 4 was really a table for 2. I got elbowed in the head :/ BUT aside from that, the Empanadas (so pricey 2 for $12) were the best I ever had. The dough was crispy, doughey, and the filling was well-seasoned. The Chuleta de Cerdo (pork chop) was oh so juicey and paired well with the Arroz Moro (rice with black beans).
