The golf cart bag holding strap released twice while I was playing, causing my bag to go flying onto the pavement. it damage a couple of my brand new clubs and when I went to tell the workers about it, they pretty much called me a liar and said they weren't doing anything about it. Poor customer service will never be coming back. Plenty of better golf courses in the area. read more

Had a wonderful time here playing 18 holes of golf. I booked a few days ahead, my brother and Dad use the OGA Passport book and this was on the list. I like the idea of a little road trip to play somewhere new. The course is tucked into an older neighborhood. The reception at check in was okay, a little stuffy. I had inquired on each of my partners getting an individual cart (with their offer) and the main clerk said the price buys a seat on a cart, not necessarily their own. That is fine, all the other courses I've joined my family on, I have been able to ride along with them-because their passport book entitles them to a cart each. They were a little more strict here and that is fair. Was able to get 1/2 a cart price and ride with my dad. Course is Old School-not sure if I know how to articulate that, but Tall, tall, trees, surrounded by deep, dark forest, course is mostly flat. Appears to be a lot of history here and I think it used to be a Private Club. It wasn't too difficult - which is nice, since, I've never played here before. Pleasant day, course was busy with people. We waited some on a few holes but it wasn't dreadful. I would definitely return. On the second nine we encountered -twice- two folks playing music loud in their carts. This is totally obnoxious and shouldn't be tolerated. I was especially surprised because this course seems a wee bit formal, buttoned up. Well, we just had to two times hearing it, so didn't recur. We didn't see a marshal out on the course. We saw a deer bounding around on the course, he/she looked so happy and bouncy. This is definitely a course to see Bambi. We didn't have any kind of libations or food afterwards but those facilities were open. Nice clubhouse lobby with a lot of old photos. The clerk in the Pro Shop at the conclusion of our round was nice and friendly. Course was in good shape. Some of the tee boxes were a little raggedy, though, a little disappointing. Lots of friendly players, too. read more

Great pro shop and staff - friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. A wonderful walking course that challenges your golf skills.

This is a fun course and fine for beginners (like myself); it was a bit more crowded on a weekday morning than I'd expected, but with friendly players who allowed my husband and I to play through, or were happy to go ahead of us when I needed a break. I've played a couple of other courses and I definitely think this is my favorite. It's been well maintained every time I've come here, and although we did not have the best experience with scheduling last time I was here in the Spring, we'll definitely be back. read more

Loved the peace and beauty of this place. Close to town but like a park. Holes well defined and conditions good for a public facility.

I love this golf course. It is Salem ' s oldest course and has far more character than any of the other nearby courses. It is a public course but has a bit of a country club feel to it. The course is well maintained with fairways lined by beautiful (unless you end up hitting into them) trees not cookie cutter houses. While there are a few raised tees and greens the course is fairly level and easy to walk for most. If there is one thing I don't like about this course it is the location of the driving range (except when I am just coming to hit balls at the range, then I like it). It is pretty removed from the first tee so most people end up driving between the two. read more

If you golf here make sure there is no men's club tournament in the morning. The pace of play is horrible and Salem will not give you a rain check. Poor customer service to say the least. read more

The course is in a beautiful setting, the club house is classic as is the pub, and the restaurant service excellent! Overall it has tremendous possibilities as a 1st rate course! Unfortunately, this course has the worst maintenance I have ever encountered in many, many years of travel and playing many, many courses throughout the USA and abroad! The fairways are poor, few good lyes, poor drainage and water distribution, i.e. the maintenance crew has no business being in the golf industry! They are rude, obnoxious, obstructive and do not feel they should give consideration to golfers, as their only concern is to get done, and go home - & be damned with course maintenance and player consideration! And I was told by management, if I didn't like their obstructive interference/obstruction/noise/delay-of-play, go play somewhere else! I will never return - even though offered a conciliatory round of golf! read more

It is 55 and sunny on a Sunday and my husband and I went to the driving range at 2pm (hours 8am-6pm) on weekends and there was a piece of paper that said the range was closed because "Out of range balls" --- when we called to ask why they said "we don't have anyone to pick them up." What a joke. Going to Willow Lake now hopefully better luck there. read more

Gorgeous course. Very well maintained. The history of the course is honored and the staff is knowledgeable and friendly. In addition to a great round of golf, I had a fried chicken sandwich that was AMAZING. The golf pro is exactly that, total pro, and I'll play there anytime I'm in Salem. There aren't a lot of golf clubs in Salem, but this one's a peach! An old, established layout with excellent greens and beautiful design. It's not a park-style muni, it's a real golf course, and if I'm not mistaken, used to be private. The clubhouse is beautiful, and old school (think Bushwood). I don't usually eat at golf clubs, I'm a golfer, but the restaurant seemed to be doing good business. Unlike a lot of courses in Oregon, they do have a beverage cart, and it's very well stocked! I always laugh when people say it's expensive, I paid $42 with a cart at 1PM on a weekday. That's a great deal, in my book. read more

This has never been one of my favorite courses to play, and its a bit spendy for a public course. The layout is good...with a lot of walking. A bit hilly, but not too bad. Nice clubhouse. 18 hole full length course. The setting is very wooded, with only some water. Can be very slow to play, if its busy. read more

My wife and I along with another couple attended the first night "soft" opening of the new Fairway Restaurant at the Salem Golf Club this evening. The restaurant, based on their menu, is above average in cost and provides a nice variety of appetizers, salads, and entree's. The scenery looking over the 1st and 10th fairways are beautiful and the service was very good. They have done a nice job of sprucing up the space, formerly operated by Rudy's Steakhouse for many years, with decor, paint, etc. We typically start a new restaurant by dining on appetizers and/or other small plates. We have determined that if these dishes are good the main entree's will likely be so as well. I chose a Caprese salad and three cheese plate which were wonderfully prepared and the cheeses were delicious. However, my wife ordered the crab cocktail which came in a nice dish within a dish. The crab was dry and appeared old. The larger dish which cradled the dish with crab had no ice to keep the crap cold. My wife brought it to the attention of the server who was more than willing to provide a substitute. She chose the shrimp cocktail, which was supposed to be 5 "jumbo" shrimp. It too came dry and with only 4, not 5, shrimp of medium size. It also had no ice in the dish under the serving dish to keep it cold. However, the 2 sauces that were served with both the crab and shrimp were spot on. Additionally, my wife chose a Charcuterie plate that was supposed to have liver mousse that she was very much wanting to try. Instead the plate came out with more meat and no mousse with the excuse they were out of mousse. This occurred even though we were literally their first customers of the evening for a 5:00 o'clock reservation. Certainly, she should have been given the opportunity to choose another appetizer or accept this one knowing the mousse was not available. This did not occur unfortunately. The plate was good, but not with the components she was hoping for. I think the Sous Chef was off his game this first night. We will certainly give them another chance in a month or so after they get their legs under them. Better luck next time? read more
