Everyone we encountered was friendly and welcoming. I had a fantastic surprise when I saw Granny Fi's shortbread! I had seen her at multiple events in Washington and was delighted to find her at the market--my kids were delighted to get some shortbread and millionaire bars outside of the summer events! Such a great selection of items, many allergy friendly choices and, so so so so so many dogs. It was glorious.

We noticed that Salem had a public market and thought that would be a good way to get some local flavor and a good way to let the time pass up until the museum opened. This public market is not outside but instead inside a small building. Despite the size of the building there are a fair amount of local vendors that are in here. Some I really was impressed with. There was a guy that had us sample some of his homemade beef jerky that was very good, a plant vendor that sculpted air type plants into things making very cute dioramas with them. My favorite was a hand crafted soap vendor and I wound up buying several bars of soap from her. The fragrances were great and she made them very pleasing to the eye as well with fancy waves at one end on a bar of soap with hints of what looked like glitter. Very nice. This public market was unexpectedly fun and was a perfect morning stop to make!

Today was a perfect sunny day to stop in for some fresh sugar snap peas and of course a strawberry shortcake. The peas were great. Big healthy peas. And my shortcake was amazing. I love this time of the year. My only negative about my shortcake I suppose would be I wish they had more strawberries in the sauce and maybe even topped it with some fresh cut strawberries. That would take it to the next level. I will definitely return for another go around as they offer a variety of fresh produce. Oh and I also snagged a bottle of local Bloody Mary mix.
