They had a few shuttles in rotation, and they were nice, luxury buses. The area surrounding the festival in Byrd Park looked pretty gnarly with traffic, so I definitely do not recommend driving. There were over 350 vendors at the 2026 event. A large directory and map greeted us upon arrival, which was a nice touch and helped guide us around the event efficiently. The weather was perfect -- early spring mild temps with plenty of sunshine. I found loads of gorgeous pottery for gifts at reasonable rates. We didn't eat on site, but there were plenty of food vendors. We attended on the second day and the porta pots weren't the best. The event was busy but not claustrophobic. The layout was quite nice for strolling, and the Carillon added extra scenery to the day. I will absolutely be back in future years!

There are food and drink vendors. I recommend carrying a bottle of water, you will be doing a lot of walking and lemonade was $8.00 this year. The food prices were okay. I got a well smoked BBQ sandwich with coleslaw for $8.00. The food was tasty. The art is fun and you will see all kinds of things like jewelry, artistic notecards, lotions, soaps, whirligigs, and what nots galore. It is a fun event for all ages. Dogs are welcome too.

Members have the opportunity to participate in roundtable discussions with representatives from larger organizations, as well as monthly business meetings and fundraising events like a monthly golf tournament. The president Oliver Singleton is incredibly well-connected, and he can open doors to all sorts of great opportunities. I think one of the most compelling reasons to join The MBL is because unlike when you join the local chapter of the chamber of commerce, you get personalized attention at The MBL, and a chance to rub elbows with the president at every meeting, as well as other members. It's a smaller group of folks, and people genuinely are interested in meeting one another, and getting the opportunity to work with new members. As a member, you can go to monthly meetings where speakers come and talk, but you also can take part in a variety of other networking opportunities, such as lunch and learns, golf and tennis fundraisers, and their annual gala. The MBL has some relationships not only with businesses in the community, but also other sources of assistance, such as SCORE, so no matter where you are in your business adventure (just starting out, looking to expand, or just enjoying being established), you can get something out joining The MBL.

Dogwood Dell holds a free concert series during the summer and music genres of all kinds are on the itinerary. There is no charge to attend and it is a great way to spend a balmy summer night. Plunky is a RVA legend so the show was amazing and he packed the theater. It was one of the best live shows I had seen in awhile and it was free! The area is so nice and quite large. No dogs are allowed in Dogwood Dell so leave your fury friends at home. My friend had to take her dog home and come back. I would definitely recommend getting there early so you can have your pick of seats. You can be simple and bring a blanket or go all out and bring a romantic picnic. I brought a nice portable chair, blanket and a small cooler of refreshments. I got there early enough to get my pick of where I wanted to sit. Vendors set up around the area as well so you can purchase food and drinks if you did not bring your own. Be sure to bring bug spray! The bathrooms were under renovation so there were tons of port a potties on the premises when I went. I think normally there are regular restrooms. I would bring wipes or a roll of toilet paper just in case. I can't wait to come back to Dogwood Dell to enjoy a night under the stars listening to fantastic music!

This outdoor wine festival takes place for one weekend every April. About 12 wineries come to the…read moreInnsbrook Pavilion and set up tasting booths. There's also live jazz, arts and crafts and food for sale. A word of warning: this event gets packed! Be prepared to wait a bit to taste, and if it's a hot day, to be dripping with sweat by the end. That said, it's still a fun afternoon of wine tasting. This past year most of the wineries around Richmond were present, including Cooper, Grayhaven, Horton, James River Cellars and Lake Anna Winery. A few from further afield were also present, including Amrhein, Hill Top Berry Farm/Winery, Rebec Vineyards and Rockbridge Vineyards. Veritas Vineyards, one of my favorite Charlottesville area wineries was on site. All their wines are high in quality and soo drinkable. It's always hard to decide what to buy. If you've never done it before, you also have to go by Peaks of Otter Winery. You get to taste a slew of fruit wines, and finish with a hot pepper wine called Kiss the Devil. Everyone shoots it at the same time and then you get a sticker to wear for the rest of the day boasting "I kissed the Devil." Kind of fun. You can buy glasses of wine or open bottles to sip on-site, and sometimes this provides a nice break from the tasting. Tickets are available at a variety of local wine stores and cost $15 in advance and $20 at the door.

It's the end of 2020, and I'd say most of us need some extra cheer in our lives right about now…read more Fortunately, Lewis Ginter didn't cancel their annual holiday lightfest, but this year was certainly different than years' past with lots of pandemic precautions in place. I had visited once prior in 2017 and enjoyed the experience, but what I recall from that visit was that the garden was mobbed and the parking lot was insane. We had to park in a subdivision across the street and run across the street/try not to get hit by cars on Lakeside Ave. that year. And last year, I tried to bring my mom so she could experience it too. But we were stuck in an hour+ line at the Lakeside Ave. to make a left, and then as we got close, the police wouldn't let us turn left randomly. I was pretty upset to say the least and actually had an exchange with someone at Lewis Ginter after I direct messaged them about the incident, and they offered free tickets. I never took them up on it, though. Just went to the Norfolk lights instead the next night. This year was much more limited in terms of how many tickets were sold, plus there were staggered entry times. We were able to park right in the front row near the entrance, which is off to the left side this year. There's one entrance and one exit. We arrived within our half-hour window and showed the tickets to a clerk behind glass. Masks are rightfully required to be worn at all times while on their grounds, which I appreciated as a rule (though of course some people didn't listen - eye roll). We arrived at twilight (5 pm) and that turned out well for photos. I was able to get some in both twilight and total darkness. And with less people at the garden, it was easier to snap photos of the displays without others walking into view (though that did happen a few times). This year is all outdoors (so no big tree inside). The treehouse is also blocked off. They offer hot drinks and some food items, but I didn't buy any. With an hour-limit for the visit, we just made it through in the allotted time. Surprisingly, the gift shop was open. I was actually surprised by that, but I guess they need to boost their sales. Hand sanitizer was available upon entry. The tickets themselves were also pretty pricy for nonmembers like myself. And I attended on a value night, so I'm glad I visited when I did. Hopefully by next year, the pandemic will be a thing of the past, but I do see it being helpful if they continue with the timed entries, online ticket purchases, and limiting the amount of visitors to what the parking lot can hold.

Had such a fun circus experience at Do Portugal Circus! I went opening night and it did not…read moredisappoint! It was a total of an hour and 45 minutes which felt so substantial! I was not bored for any of it. The amount of talent that each of the performers possess is amazing. From Trapeze artists, human cannonballs and quick changes there is something for everyone here! There is also a person who takes photographs for purchase which was a fun memento for our first time at this circus! Definitely check it out before they head out of Richmond!

It is filled with talented human acts that are amazing. The tent is set up right at the Diamond and there is free parking out front. You can get tickets online in advance or at their ticket office out front. We saved some money by doing the friends pack for four people and had a really fun double date. They have food and beverages for purchase. We got some hot dogs and cotton candy. Our friends got popcorn and hot chocolate. The food is reasonably priced. There are clean porta potties outside for use. You can also get merch like teddy bears, light up wands, or a photo souvenir. This 1h45m show is packed with awesomeness. The way they build up the acts was perfect. There are so many talented performers at this circus. The clown is such a highlight because he can play the saxophone and was so funny. I was in awe at the incredible acrobats and magician. My favorite act is the globe of death. I highly recommend checking this circus out. It's fun for all ages.

The last show was A Christmas Carol. It was fabulous! You ,it's call a ad reserve seats for the shows. They are reserved seats and an usher will help you find your seat after you arrive and pay. By the way shows are inexpensive, less than $5 for the times I have been. I will say it does get hot so wear short sleeves if you are prone to overheating. Hope to see you there!
