A new place on 6th Street that is cool to hang out with its pop décor and retro arcade classics. The Donkey Kong machine did eat our quarters and we ended up wasting a few though. Weekend brunch starts at 10 AM. If you visit prior to peak hours at 8 AM, the menu selection is limited but offers a cheaper price for the sandwich that is normally $10. The other choices were the Ham & Cheese Croissant ($7) and the Quiche ($14). A couple of pastries were out on the front counter. ----- Breakfast Sandwich: egg soufflé, bacon, pepper jelly, challah ($8). Substitute vegan sausage for $3. The breakfast sammy was scrumptious, especially considering its price! The challah was fresh with a slight sweetness to it like Hawaiian buns. In-between had a thick slab of egg that reminded me of tamagoyaki: fluffy and soft. The pepper jelly added a nice flavor. ----- Matcha Latte: can substitute milk at an additional cost ($5.33). I thought the drink was on the pricier side and standard regarding its matcha taste. It would be useful if the prices were listed on the board of café beverages. ----- Orders are placed at the counter and then self-seated with a table number. Our friends were in town a couple of months back so we headed down to 6th St. to check out the new spot Sally Ann's before showing them around the city. It's located where Pork & Beans used to be - glad to see something in this space again. The furniture & decor are really cute & colorful. There's even a disco ball! Overall it's very laid back. You order at the window a la Coop de Ville & they bring your order to your seat once it's ready. You separately go up to the bar for drinks. We were happy to see our server we'd recently had at Meat & Potatoes again here when he delivered our food! It was still brunch so we couldn't get anything from the main food menu - normally this is a huge plus for me but I didn't see much that I wanted to try off of the brunch menu. To drink, I had an Irish Coffee which was perfect for the morning (afternoon) after a wedding! I didn't love the super fluffy scrambled egg square on the breakfast sandwich the texture was weird and taste was bland (big scrambled person but would have preferred fried egg on this) but overall the sandwich still did the trick. The smoked salmon & monte cristo our friends got were great! Our table also enjoyed multiple orders of the fries & aioli. We stopped in for a quick lunch while visiting Pittsburgh. The ambiance is a vibe. They have a disco ball, arcade games, and some tables offer Nintendo games to play while you're dining. We came here before Pickelsburgh for a quick bite. They still need to work out the logistics a bit. Ordering is fast casual and a bit discombobulated. Staff is not anxious to take your order here, either. I understand that the place is new, though, and probably needs to work out some kinks. We started at the bar and I tried to order a beer, mostly unsuccessfully. By 6:30 they were out of all attractive local micro offerings. This was despite having to request a beer 4 times and each time the bartender unknowing what was available. He had to come back with a bad beer report. I would recommend a broader offering, perhaps that will come with time. I had to settle on a fat tire For food you go to another counter to order which makes zero sense. Options are mostly salads, a few shareables, and relatively standard sandwiches. We selected the French onion dip with naan, fries, and Italian and Turkey club sandwiches. The sandwiches are a great size, same with the fries. The naan with dip was laughably small. We thought it was a mistake. You get six bite sized pieces of naan and enough dip to dip in maybe 2-3 of the naan slices. Tasted good, but literally the world's smallest dish. It has to be a miscalc. The sandwiches are solid, but nothing crazy. They had some interesting spins in some of the shareables and so for whatever reason, the run of the mill sandwich offerings didn't seem to quite fit together with the shareables. I'd like to see them offer some standard diner style hot dinners, too, with some flair. Overall, if you're downtown, with kids, or don't have a reservation, this will do the trick, but I wouldn't make this a destination. read more

The positives here are the quality of the food, a super friendly staff, and nice outside seating (great on a nice summer night). Negatives - smallish portions for both food and drink for what you pay. Also, the cafeteria model turns the waiter into a food delivery person and that takes away from the experience. I love love love the concept of Sally Ann's! Such a quirky space for larger groups to gather that's both casual and fun. They have funky drinks (like a a bourbon with banana flavoring) and a variety of foods. There is even a row of booths along the wall that have mounted TV's with old school arcade games like Frogger, Mortal Combat, Jurassic park, and Mario Kart. I think this is a great concept and the openness of the layout makes it very inviting. The food was wonderful as well! This was my first time trying Sally Ann's and I really enjoyed it! There are a few nearby parking garages to park in. Sally Ann's also has outdoor seating with cute picnic tables. Unfortunately it was raining, but we got a good spot inside. You can make reservations too! I think they had a decent variety of items on the menu. The salmon toast was fresh and tasty. I also ordered a side of vegan sausage, which was good, but not my favorite. My friend enjoyed their breakfast as well. The coffee was delicious! While the space itself is so cute, I have consistently found the food to be lacking. I've visited twice and both times tried the Sally Ann's breakfast. My first visit, about 5 months ago, the food came out cold. On my second visit, yesterday, service was quick and friendly but the bacon was so salty that it was inedible. Sally Ann's is a lovely restaurant with a low key, confident vibe that should put anyone at ease. The staff is very friendly and, despite posts to the contrary, it's easy to find the menu and place your order (honestly, if this system overwhelms you, you should probably stick to chains). I had the avocado toast, with a side of vegan sausage. My husband had salmon toast. All were exquisitely seasoned and delicious - way better than the ubiquitous competitors - as well as beautifully presented. The chai latte was very good - spicy, with just a hint of sweetness. This place is absolutely adorable!! They way they decorated it and the vibe of the whole place is great. Definitely a cute place to take some IG pics! I was hoping to sit outside but it was full, so we sat in one of their booths. They have a TV and an old video game hooked up to the TV so you can play games while you wait for your food, which was very cool! You order at this bar/window area and they give you a number to put at your table. I got the avocado toast, iced lavender oat latte, and the fries. RDRG does it again! By luck, I was able to visit on their first day and have visited twice so far. The decor and ambiance is so cool, as are all of his restaurants. We really needed a breakfast and lunch place downtown (I'm saying this when I don't even live or work downtown!). I love how you can get just about anything here, too - just coffee, just cocktails, just food, or all of the above! The Japanese sweet potatoes are what dreams are made of. Crispy, salty, sweet, and creamy. YUM! I've also tried 3 desserts (the pecan pie is a MUST with its caramel custard!), the pastrami Reuben, and the falafel. The falafel was by far my favorite with the homemade naan and cilantro chutney. Also had an espresso tonic for the first time ever. So refreshing and the perfect summer morning drink. Can't wait to go back very soon and try brunch! read more

Anytime I see a Ruben on a menu, I'm ordering it(I've had a lot of Rueben's from a lot of places). The Rueben at Sally Ann's was absolutely top notch! I'm a big fan of everything about it. We also got the pasta salad which was really fantastic, I loved the vinegar base and hint of spice. We also got fries that came with an aioli which was good but I'm more of a fries with ketchup person. My mom got the Turkey club which looked great as well and she really enjoyed. As a bonus, I took half the rueben to go and finished later that night and honestly it might have been better after being refrigerated a bit, just can't praise that damn sandwich enough. Sally Ann's is an adorable restaurant. I enjoyed a homemade almond croissant with coffee. It was fun to see several alternative seating areas. They played an old fashion movie on a screen that was from the 1980s with Jane Fonda and Robert Redford. It was called Barefoot in the Park. Everyone gets an individualized coffee mug. The booths provide an opportunity to play video games. I especially liked the huge disco ball turning in the center of the restaurant. read more

I also had the fried potatoes in oregano butter...meh. Some of the potatoes were under cooked. I had an iced chai latte that was overly spiced. My husband had the mortadella and egg sandwich which was good with the hash browns which were just ok. So imagine my joy when I was told the vegetarian "sausage" was made in house and was gluten free. AND IT WAS AMAZING!!!! I am very grateful that our concierge recommended Sally Ann's. I finally made it to Sally Ann's for lunch! The space is so cute inside and it's easy to order and seat yourself for lunch. There was a group of 6 in front of me, and the line moved very quickly. I knew I wanted to order the veggie reuben since I heard so many great things about it. I also added a side salad. I thought their prices were standard for lunch downtown. I am still thinking about how awesome this sandwich was! Sometimes veggie sandwiches that are supposed to taste like meat just don't work. This was the coolest way I've ever had fake meat! The reuben has corned celeriac (I had to google it lol), house-made sauerkraut, gruyere, special sauce, on rye. It was served with a homemade pickle too. The sandwich was huge and I ate the whole thing. It was SO good and like nothing I've ever had before. The melted gruyere really made it. Vegetarians and meat eaters would enjoy this sammie! The side salad tasted super fresh and springy with fresh dill and radishes. I had to ask for the dressing and they brought an avocado ranch which I wouldn't have ordered. It was really good and paired well with the dill in the salad. Overall this is a new favorite downtown lunch spot. Can't wait to visit again and try their brunch and cocktails! read more
