The atmosphere and drinks were fantastic, but unfortunately, the food was a major disappointment. We were really excited after seeing the creative and extensive menu advertised, but what we received didn't come close to matching the expectations. The drinks and ambiance were definitely the highlights, but when you're going out to eat, the food should be the star--and for us, it simply wasn't.
Another great Pittsburgh breakfast option If you visit on a weekend, have a Cinnamon Bun! Not too sweet, just right. Every plate is creative, with very good ingredients. The room is comfortable, with indoor and outdoor seating. The service is attentive.
Sally Ann's is named after restauranteur Richard DeShantz's mother, and it serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner in a casual setting. Through the Resy app, I made a reservation for breakfast for my husband and me. Upon our arrival, the seating hostess promptly seated us at a small, clean table. The restaurant's interior design looked colorful and interesting. The lighting was dim (so I used my cell phone's light to read the menu!). The breakfast menu listed foods such as coffee cake, banana foster bread pudding, biscuit and gravy, salmon toast, eggs Benedict, brisket hash, and sandwiches and beverages such as coffees, teas, cocktails, juices, beers, and wines. Our waitress provided courteous service, although she decided to bring out my main course as our shared appetizer and brought our drinks a bit later. Here are my reviews for what we ate: Caramel Apple French Toast - 4 stars - This French toast had two layers--a bottom one that was plain and a top one that had toppings of roasted apples, almond brittle (hard and crunchy), and caramel. Quiche Lorraine - 3.5 stars - This quiche was taller than quiches that we have seen at other restaurants. The egg custard was in the top and middle, and the bacon, onions, and cheese were on the very bottom. We would have preferred that these ingredients be mixed in, and my husband did not eat the plain egg in the top. He did like the side salad that had a not-heavy dressing. Giant Cinnamon Bun - 4.5 stars - This dessert is served only on Saturdays and Sundays and is similar to a cinnamon roll. It was a large almond streusel topped with a good amount of cream-cheese icing. My husband said that he liked it, and so did I. Hot Chocolate - 4 stars - This 12-ounce hot chocolate tasted very good. Chai Latte - 4 stars - This 12-ounce chai latte tasted very good. The total price for this meal was $56 plus sales tax, a 3% operating fee, and a tip.
It was a beautiful sunny morning to enjoy an outside brunch with friends. It was one of a couple open earlier in the morning to grab a bite to eat after a 5k. We lucked out and were promptly seated. It was interesting that the food came out quicker than the cappuccino I ordered. The brisket and poached eggs were fantastic. I thought my breakfast overall was high value for the actual price.
My friend and I checked out Sally Ann's for brunch on a Saturday. I was able to make a reservation online. When we arrived, we were seated right away. I started with a chai latte, which was delicious! They offer a variety of drink options including: coffee (boozy and non boozy), tea, house cocktails, n/a beverages, wine, and beer. For brunch, I ordered a version of eggs Benedict. It was a hearty meal. I also ordered a slice of coffee cake to go. It tasted different than what I am used to. It had a strong molasses flavor that I wasn't a fan of. But overall, we had a good experience and I would come back again.
Went to Sally Anne's today, and unfortunately, the experience didn't live up to the hype. The atmosphere is nice, the drinks were good, and our service was pleasant. But at the end of the day, the food is the star -- and that's where they missed the mark. I ordered the brisket. The flavor was good, but the plate was overwhelmingly potatoes with a very small amount of brisket. My husband ordered the featured country fried steak, and his meal was much the same -- plenty of potatoes, but a disappointingly small portion of meat. For the price, we expected considerably more. The experience also got off to a rocky start when we were seated under leaking ductwork. After moving three times, we eventually settled at the counter. What was especially frustrating was that the restaurant wasn't busy, yet we weren't offered another suitable table. I really wanted to like this place, and my expectations were high. Unfortunately, they weren't even close to being met. The food felt more like basic chain-restaurant fare than something memorable or worth returning for. Good atmosphere, good drinks, and decent service -- but that's not enough to bring us back. Been there, done that. No need for a return visit.
Enjoyed lunch at Sally Ann's with my husband today. Fish Friday!!! The Pittsburgher, cod beer batter deep fired with fries and coleslaw was delicious, always a local favorite. The Bahn Mi, cod blackened with crunchy pickled vegetables , cilantro and jalapeño was a fantastic modern take. If you're craving fish today, I highly recommend this nostalgic restaurant.
Our waitress was a little slow. The food came out fast but was not as good as I expected. The breakfast potatoes were a little burned but still good. The banana bread was good. Everything was just.. good but not great. The restaurant is cute.
Nice place for brunch. They do have different items in the menu depending on the time so I wish I was aware of that. Otherwise nice selection of dishes. Service was great, server was attentive and food came out in reasonable time. Salmon toast was aesthetically pleasing. The piping of the cream cheese was a bit heavy but other than that delicious dish. The side smashed potatoes were heavenly.
I really like Sally Ann's for its vibe; however, the menu and service always fall short of making it great. The place is always hopping busy so make sure you have a reservation. Really love the decor of this place. I find the menu has fairly heavy food and leaves me wanting a something in the middle between their light and hearty options. Ultimately, we went for the the corned beef benedict and the avocado toast. We tried the hash browns as a side and it came in fun square cubes. Our table didn't have a menu for the fancier coffee drinks, which we might have gone for had we seen the menu. I had a regular coffee, and it was really hard getting coffee refills or the server's attention. Service is a weird recurring issue. I've often sat at the counter, waiting for 15-20 minutes for them to give me drip coffee: and was told it's the same line as prepared coffee drinks, so we'll give it to you when the time comes... while there's a brewed pot right there. I have come here many times and will do so again, but I wish it was a bit more than it is.
Very cool place for brunch. Service was fantastic and food was delicious. The building is decorated with cool art and repurposed doors and things. Kind of looks like a converted barn. The bathroom sink is weird, its a large tub that is shared between the men's and women's room. Check my pics to see!
Before we saw Wicked, we stopped here for brunch. It is so conveniently located in the cultural district. We had a large party of 13 and they accommodated us perfectly (we did make reservations). Our server was on top of everything! We had great service and the food was excellent. We loved the vibe of the place and the music was excellent. The whole place gives off positive vibes.
Decided to do brunch here and so glad we did. We sat at the bar and received the best service from Aus, the cocktail genius. She made a delicious old fashioned and a unique mimosa. The food was amazing. I had the Pittsburgh Nasty, which is a homemade biscuit with sausage gravy, chicken and an egg. So good! My husband had the brisket hash and thought it was tasty and would get it again. The place has a cool vibe and lively energy. Can't wait to go back!

Fun, eclectic brunch spot in downtown Pittsburg. It is absolutely hipster, there's avocado toast, but it backs itself up with friendly service and quality food. A disco ball hangs from the ceiling, the staff wears Hawaiian shirts, the furniture does not match (and the owner may have taken some pieces from their grandmother), and the music is not in the background. A Warhol Audrey Hepburn is clear about her expectations for men. If you hate the hipster vibe, probably not for you. There is a QR code for the menu on the table. You are seated, then you order from the food window, and order drinks separately from the bar. A server will run it out to your table. My friend got the Ric muffin, an upscale McMuffin with hash brown (spicy sauce if that's your thing). She loved the crispy hash browns, the ham was also really good. I had the salmon toast, which was a good size, but a bit lighter meal and had a bit of a salad on the top. I liked the freshness of it. We split the cinnamon roll, which was really more of a mini cinnamon loaf. Crisp on the outside with softer cinnamon layers inside, and a generous portion of cream cheese frosting (my friend though it reminded her of a toasted marshmallow). It was phenomenal, if you are full, consider taking one to go. The negatives about Sally Ann's are that I thought the alcohol was overly up-charged, especially for the size (small glass of Prosecco was $12). The pricing for the food was reasonable. You have to order drinks and food separately, which was a minor annoyance, as well as another station for water. The restaurant is downtown, and while not their fault, parking is difficult. read more

Cute spot to stop by before or after catching a show in the Cultural District. Reasonable brunch prices and yummy coffee drinks. It was busy but our food came out quick. I got the egg ric muffin that came with Parmesan potatoes. The sandwich was tasty and fresh and the potatoes had good flavor but were a tad undercooked. We also both got the peppermint bark latte which was festive and delicious! It's decorated very cute for the holidays. Sally Ann's has been popping up on recommended restaurant lists for PGH, so my family and I decided to visit for breakfast one Sunday morning while my sister and I were in town. We easily made reservations on line, and we found street parking prior to our time slot without issue. Sally Ann's is right downtown in the former Pork & Beans spot, but they have certainly made it their own. The vibe is incredibly eclectic - fun art adorns the walls, and the seating is unique with tables in the center area but also more set back booths featuring fun decorations themselves. The booths also have old school video game systems hooked up so you can play while you wait (or dine) - such a unique touch! The brunch menu isn't incredibly large, but with the variety of options, there is something for everyone. I decided to go savory and opted for the salmon toast, which featured homemade bread, fresh lox, cream cheese, and crunchy cucumber. I don't usually go for fish for breakfast, but I thought this was a solid meal. The fish wasn't too smoky but also not too fishy to overwhelm the palate. The creaminess of the base paired well with the crunch of the veggies, and I appreciated that the bread was hearty enough to hold everything but not super dense. My family all enjoyed their meals too, particularly speaking highly of the Sally Ann's breakfast. Their coffee menu is quite extensive too, featuring many fun lattes and other specialty drinks. We mostly all opted for the the cold brew, which was standard but solid. My dad decided on the nitro cold brew, which he had never had before - he enjoyed the smoothness and the draft style of the drink. Our server was kind, but service was a bit slow. It took an extremely long time to get our coffees (our food actually came before our drinks), even requiring us to remind our server for our drinks. I normally wouldn't mind but we did have an event after breakfast, so we were in a slight time crunch. All in all, our breakfast / brunch at Sally Ann's was solid, and the space is quite fun. I would recommend for a solid breakfast while in downtown PGH, and I would love to revisit and try other menu items and their fun drinks. read more

I'm usually not downtown during usual business hours so it was fun trying someplace that is typically closed when I'm in town. The atmosphere is fun and laid back without feeling overwhelming. When you enter, you pick a table, then go to the ordering area. You choose what you are going to order, pay and head back to your table (so make sure you remember your table number when placing your order). I chose the turkey Devonshire because despite it being a Pittsburgh dish, you often can't find it on the menu. It arrived fairly quickly and was delicious. Lots of flavor packed in and nothing got soggy and none of the flavors overwhelming. Water is self serve and there is also a full bar of drink options. Overall a fun dining option I'll likely visit again. read more

Sally Ann's is a very different kind of restaurant. You order at the bar (yes, they have a full bar, tho it's not prominent on their online menu) or at a counter and they give you a number and you get your own after or soda, but your food and drinks are all brought to you and we were checked on often to see if we needed anything. My cauliflower Cuban sandwich and my friend's French dip were wonderful. The French fries were truly amazing, tho. I'm so glad my friend got them. I'm very picky about my French fries and can't stand the fries I often get at restaurants that aren't crispy or flavorful. These fries might have been the best fries I've ever had. They had seasoning and were perfectly crisp. They were even good when they got cold, which almost never happens. The aioli that came with them was delicious, too. There are booths near the back that had games to play. I saw a couple playing Super Mario Brothers. Not sure what else they had. They also had some stand-up arcade games near the front of the restaurant. I highly recommend checking out Sally Ann's. We liked the vibe and loved the food and service. This is a happening place for weekend brunch, with a brunch that caters to many tastes, including (in our group) gluten free and meat-required. The staff were accommodating when I called to move our reservation up sooner. Everything we ordered was delicious. I'm trying to remember the cocktail I ordered (Garibaldi in Autumn?), because it was just okay, not really what I was expecting (a "fall" drink with a paper pineapple-? I expected something...darker?). Minus 1 star because the DJed music was too loud to have a proper conversation with each other. Despite having to wait (we put our names in and waited about 25 minutes), Sally Ann's is such a hip place between the movie being projected on the wall (Breakfast at Tiffany's) to the retro decor. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. The booths in the back along the wall look especially cool. So happy to see an interesting menu too. We enjoyed the whipped ricotta toast with a hint of mint and pistachio which was deliciously different as well as their unique take on avocado toast. We went for brunch for the first time and this place is delicious! We had a reservation which really helped since it was busy when we arrived. I had the Barbacoa Benedict'- so flavorful and yummy-interesting take on eggs Benedict! (Im a huge fan of eggs Benedict) Honestly everything we got was really good! Whipped ricotta toast was so light and fluffy and the right amount of sweet. My husband got the turkey sandwich which he enjoyed too! Our waitress Jasmin was great!. The ambiance is also really cool and they have these tv screens in each booth where you can play games. Can't wait until we go back :) read more

Sally Ann's was good overall and the indoor space has an awesome vibe. I really don't like the process of having to wait in line to order food and drinks. I think having a QR code on the table or traditional service would be so much better. We waited forever for coffee and having someone bring you water and offer a drip coffee carafe up front would have made the long wait times for food a bit more manageable. On top of that the space where you order inside was so crowded and there are always people pushing past you. When we finally did get our food it was good. The specialty latte was really fantastic and I would love to try other flavors. I'd be willing to come back and try more food and drinks again. read more

Super cute new spot in the cultural district! I've only visited in the evening, but the menu was creative and the ambiance was fun and cozy. When I visited (a few weeks ago) we were able to grab a table and order at the designated kiosk. I tried a fun pineapple margarita to drink, and it was so cute and delicious! We also sampled hummus, mac n cheese, fries, and the coconut cake - all were so tasty and fresh. The mac n cheese in particular was wonderful and is probably my favorite item that we tried! The fries are reminiscent of Sally Ann's predecessor, Pork and Beans, and I loved those fries so I was happy to see them mirrored here. This is an awesome brunch spot. We went on Sunday so we could enjoy the DJ and some good food. I started with the Crème Brûlée Latte - which was so tasty. We also had the egg sandwich, which was fluffy and delicious with a soft bun and crisp bacon. The salmon toast - salmon was a bit too fishy. Side of potatoes, which were very good. Lastly we had the chicken and waffle. Chicken was awesome but the waffle was a bit soggy. Overall great place to spend a leisurely Sunday for brunch. My first visit was on a home game Steeler's Sunday morning. Luckily, my brunch group of three was able to grab an available table as there really is no room to wait. I didn't mind waiting in a line to order at the register. But I would have preferred all the orders for our table be kept warm and be delivered at the same time. I very much enjoyed my meal. The ambiance was very lively with a DJ providing the playlist. I would definitely grab brunch here again if I find myself downtown on a weekend morning. read more

I've been to Sally Ann's on a busy weekend, but had the chance to come on a weekday to work a little bit and then enjoy some lunch and I was surprised by how calm it was and a great environment to work in even on a Friday. I settled into a booth, they gave me the Wi-Fi, and I had a DELICIOUS caramel banana bread latte. WOW. Before I left, I met up with some people to enjoy a quick lunch where I enjoyed a delicious Monte cristo. Can't wait to come back again! read more

Fantastic ambience, friendly staff, and the bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich with the smashed Parmesan potatoes were both absolutely delicious. The pepper jelly on the sandwich made the whole thing, and using egg soufflé instead of the standard fried egg on the sandwich was eye opening -- you still got the hearty filling of the egg, but it was so light and fluffy that is really made the sandwich that much better to start your day with. read more

I absolutely fell in love with Sally Ann's on my first visit. The whole space is vintage, quirky and fun, plus everything on the menu is great. A group of friends tried a variety of things -- the burger, French toast, Mediterranean bowl and chicken with waffles were raved about at our table. I had the classic breakfast with a side of avocado to make my own side of avocado toast. The bread was locally made, the jam is made in house and even the roasted potatoes were awesome. We all shared the ricotta donuts as well and honestly next time I'd probably get those for myself and not share haha! My favorite item on the menu: the Cinnamon Toast Crunch latte. The caramel sauce on top put this drink over the edge and I literally may start eating Cinnamon Toast Crunch with coffee in it instead of just milk from now on because of how good this was. read more

Another Dishantz gem. Eclectic retro vibe including arcade games, disco balls, and Tetris in each booth. Our server (Rosie) was super attentive and friendly. Coffee options were very good as well - cortado, drip, and chai. We all loved our meals as well; I had the barbacoa benedict...it was as good as it was unique. My daughter had the burger, my wife had the monte cristo, and my other daughter had the avocado toast. Everyone loved their choices. The hit of the day was the cinnamon bun for the table! It is a must! While the pricing is certainly not cheap, we felt it is was worth it. read more

I've had this place on my to do list for a long time now and believe me it did not disappoint! My girlfriend and I stopped in for lunch. The menu you can either scan with your phone or check out the electronic board opposite the full bar they have off to the left as you come in. We both decided to go with their Reuben sandwich and ordered a side of Brussel Sprouts to go with it. We placed our order at the bar and were told that they would bring the food to out table. The restaurant has many high top tables in there but picnic style booths which we sat at. Needless to say we got our food fairly quickly. The Reuben was delicious and messy but that's what makes it so good! I loved how they prepared the Brussel Sprouts-complete with cheese mixed in with the maple jam. Believe me it was quite filling! I was pleased that we could get a free refill on our ice tea. Later on a waiter came over and checked on us, cleared our table and again gave us refills. Note the menu does differ on weekends where they serve brunch. They have a full coffee bar menu with peppermint mocha latte to issue in the holiday season. Want a little alcohol? Then try a boozy coffee! Vegan or vegetarian? They have options for those as well. Make sure to check their menu since you can also order to go. They also do catering and private events. Sally Ann's is located on Sixth St near the parking garage, Heinz Hall and Market Square. Public transportation is available as well as street and garage parking. Perfectly made Rueben? Check. Fast, friendly, convenient ordering system? Check. Great local brews? Check. 80s Arcade Games at your table? CHECK!! Perfect place for a lunch stop with kids/family or even a work trip outing with a bunch of Gen X businessmen. Rueben was just greasy enough to be real. Pastrami was well cured and flavorful. The Irishman I was with said the Drive Thru Burger was the single best sandwich he'd ever had. What a winner!! read more

The cutest little shabby chic diner with patio to boot. Every single corner in this restaurant was decorated with the cutest elements from the bathroom to the cafe bar. While visiting from the neighboring state of Ohio, our lovely local friends brought us to sally Ann's I have been excited to try one of their sister companies, so in turn was excited to have brunch here. Atmosphere: cute neon signs, projectors and right up my alley! There's a cute bar and arcade game which has an almost whimsical feel that I could get lost in Food: pretty good! I had the kimchi smelt which was vegan/ vegetarian (can't remember which) and it was good! (FYI I am not vegetarian or vegan) it had chewy texture that was mimicking a meat like structure, grilled kimchi and ?cheese on a perfectly buttery tasting toast. I did finish the whole thing. The hot chicken sandwich and breakfast sandwiches my friends had were raved on about and the hashbrown was super crispy and well seasoned And my favorite oat milk draft latte from la colombe Service: was pretty quick and we went early on Saturday (like 10) so we got seated immediately. I want Sally Ann's to relocate right next to my house. They are not allowed to be almost a half hour away from me. I have had Turkey Devonshire before, but not with house made smoked turkey or bacon. Oh Lord! And the cheese sauce! Yikes, it was good. And the house made potatoes were crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Yummy! My friends and family ordered the Monte Cristo sandwich, Ricotta Toast with figs, French Fries, quiche, fried brussel sprouts, bloody Marys, Eggs Benedict with pulled pork and cornbread with jalapenos. Everything was delicious. You could taste the freshness of the ingredients. The turkey, ham and mornay sauce were outstanding. And the service was impeccable. And don't be surprised by the ordering setup. You have to go to the booth to order and then they deliver your food. I know that it sounds a little convoluted but it isn't. And if you have someone in your party who takes a long time to order, don't worry. You can put your food order in and while they're trying to figure things out, you can begin eating. The interior is basically the same, more or less, as the previous restaurant (Pork and Beans) that was there. Not changing the decor too much from the previous restaurant really works in the instance of Sally Ann's because while the concepts are different, that feeling of being in a local food joint isn't. So I've been here twice in recent weeks and I dig it. I'll start with the food. I'm still dreaming about the breakfast sandwich. it was magic and I loved it so much. A friend had the steak salad (only available on weekdays) and said it was one of the best he'd ever had. I was then there on a weekend and loved the french toast. The barbacoa benedict was good - the meat was delicious - but it needed more sauce or maybe hot sauce? Something to add more depth. Service - employees there are super nice and friendly. They were very helpful when I was there with my 4-year-old. Weekday service was great...mainly because we were the only people in the restaurant. So why not 5 stars? Well, I HATE the fast-casual aspect. You have to stand in line to order your food and stand in a different line to order drinks. I just don't understand why Deschantz group is moving all their restaurants to this model. It makes things confusing when you're trying to order. Also, as another reviewer stated - they have different weekend and weekday menus, but the QR code at the table doesn't change. So on a weekend I tried to order something and was told I couldn't because my phone had the wrong menu. Overall, I will for sure come back if I am downtown. I just find the ordering process a bit annoying. read more

Great food, nice atmosphere. Prices are a little high though. There's no table service. You order at a window and they bring your food out. The Barbacoa Benedict was really flavorful and the eggs were cooked perfectly. The cinnamon roll was just ok. It's a more bread like texture. They did have espresso drinks which I appreciated. read more

DELICIOUS. we had an absolute fabulous time at Sally Ann's for a weekday brunch/lunch. We ordered 3 types of toasts - avocado, ricotta, and the classic french. all were amazing and so tasty. i will say they were all VERY well seasoned, if you're not into a ton of garnish you may want to ask for light seasoning. I personally love dill so the avocado toast was *chefs kiss*, but if you're meh on dill it may be a little much. i also highly recommend the crème brûlée latte, it was AMAZING. they toasted the top and everything. they also have a new cocktail called the 'poinsettia' which was a nice spritzer (not to be confused with the champagne + cranberry drink). overall we will be coming back soon! *review was written based on being invited to text business* read more
