11/2/2025 Ate list: Morning After (Hotcakes, Eggs, Bacon) - 8.6 Come when they open. If you dont want to wait in a cramped indoor space or out in the cold, come when they open. The wait for seating when we went started after about 30 minutes. Pam's is an institution. Deservedly so. It was a perfect morning for a little sweet and a little savory and the Morning After special was perfect! Hotcakes were incredible, perfectly crispy too. Bacon was wonderfully done. Crispy but not burnt. Flavor was on point too. Over Easy eggs were prepped as preferred too. Great spot, great service!

For the past 10 years, my husband has been telling me about Pamela's, so when we came to town for his college reunion, we went, and I have to say - it lived up to the hype! We ordered the blueberry hotcakes and the broccoli and cheddar omelet + Lyonnaise potatoes to share. Our friend ordered the chocolate chip banana hotcakes too, which he let me sample too! Everything was incredibly delicious! Although I'm more of a chocolate + banana's kind of person, I have to say I would probably order the blueberries next time because they are refreshing and so good in the hotcakes. I had never had hotcakes like these rolled up like crepes, which made it easy and convenient to eat. He told me Pamela's is known for the potatoes, which were indeed delicious. Even the toast that came with the omelet dish was delicious! The omelet was pretty standard, but I would order it again just to balance out the sweet dessert-y breakfast and one with more protein. Service as fast and straight-forward. They apologized for the wait, but we actually thought everything was pretty quick! We had a 20-minute wait or so when we showed up on a Friday around 11am, but we didn't mind. I told him we are definitely coming back when we are in town for his next reunion!

It's a really sweet classic diner vibe. They have one long room full of tables. The servers have clearly been there for a long time and work together so well. The food is fantastic. So fresh. We both got the hash, with eggs and toast. I loved the cook and flavor of the corned beef. The menu offers a great selection of sweet and savory.

The morning after breakfast special (two sunny side up eggs, ham, and two crepe-style hotcakes)

I got the morning after breakfast special with two sunny side up eggs, ham, and two crepe-style hotcakes. All of it was pretty good (4/5), and it was a lot of food for just $12.29! The service was pretty good (4/5)! They quickly refilled waters and coffee and checked in on us several times, despite the restaurant being packed on a Saturday morning with a wait of 20-30 minutes. The restaurant's interior is nice and gives off an old style diner feeling (4/5). Overall, it is a solid choice for breakfast!

This place is befittingly a neighborhood favorite. It almost always has a 5 party line at least unless you go very early, but the line moves very fast. The service is fast, and their famous crepe pancakes are delicious. I definitely recommend pancakes as well as the home fries/hash browns.

I love Pamela's! On the weekends I try to go before 10 AM to get seated without a wait. Today was a great day - our party of 4 got seated right away and our food came out quick. The morning after special is always so good, and most times I'll order a side of potatoes for the table. I always have leftovers considering how much food they give you. For $14 I have breakfast for two days and I always leave Pamela's happy and satisfied.

We had breakfast at Pamela's this morning. The omelets are delicious. Although the wait was quite long (since we had a big party). The inside was loud, but we were served by a sweet server.

Sausage and Cheese Omelet and Famous Lyonnaise Potatoes. An awesome breakfast.

The food and "diner" style ambience here are perfect. The service was great. Seemed like we had 3 different servers checking on us, but they weren't over bearing. Overall, a great experience.

One of my favorite food places in Shadyside. Almost like a must go for me during weekend brunch. My favorite and go-to are their home fries- crispy and well seasoned. But otherwise their menu is pretty typical of a diner menu, eggs, bacon, toast, etc. their hot cakes are good as well, crunchy edges with the sweet syrup. Spacious seating, but I would be wary of how busy it gets in the morning. Friendly staff and quick service times. I would definitely recommend coming here.

I know this place is famous, but I wasn't blown away--maybe I'm just not a diner breakfast kind of gal. Service was fast and friendly, and I always appreciate a free refill on coffee. Hot cakes were ok, but simply too oily, at least mine. If you feel pressured to go to Pamela's for being a Pittsburg staple, I'd recommend going to the Strip District location: better 50s vibe and perhaps less greasy food.

The morning after special - Scrambled eggs, Sausage, Strawberry Hotcakes
    Kendall C.

Definitely a Pittsburgh staple that I am glad I tried. I had the morning after special which is eggs, meat, and 2 hotcakes. The strawberry hotcakes were SO good, very thin and almost crepe like which is not something I normally go for but they were delicious!! The eggs were very average and the sausage was good! My friend had the same special but with chocolate chip banana hotcakes and those were also really good!! Service was good, she recommended both the strawberry and chocolate chip banana hotcakes. Definitely a place I'll come back but I'll probably just get the hotcakes next time.

Inside of Strawberry Hotcakes - delicious!

Pamela's famous crepe style hotcakes are absolutely delicious. They're very thin pancakes with crispy edges. I got the strawberry ones and thoroughly enjoyed every bite, at least in the moment. I was in a sugar coma the rest of the day and definitely feel like I gained a pound or two. I will be sharing next time.

The Speckled Egg provided the upscale and elevated breakfast, that was a nice contrast to the rustic and local breakfast we had the next day. Our waitress was friendly and professional. After some deliberation, I went with a bowl that included eggs, chicken sausage, sweet potatoes and a nice garnish of dill. The dill surprisingly elevated the whole dish. My wife enjoyed an omelette. Coffee was also quite good! Nice start to a day of sightseeing! (The restaurant staff gave great advice about the nearby tourist attractions)

He was courteous, well spoken and friendly. We sat there for about 10-12 minutes. No one approached the table. We looked over to what appeared to be a bar area and we saw two servers standing there talking and showing each other their phones. My wife said, "With our luck, one of those two is our server." Sure enough, when they were finally done talking, one came over to our table....no smile and a big audible sigh. She asked what we wanted to drink, we gave our order and she returned with our beverages. After another 10 minute wait she came back to take our order. When asked about a certain dish, came another big sigh, eye roll and and a rote description of said dish. The food arrived and one of the orders was wrong. Another wait to get her attention. We asked for the item to be redone as we had ordered it. And she even asked how we wanted it! You got it...another eye roll and a big sigh. At least she was well oxygenated! The dish came back with the very same results. On that issue we gave up. Then came the wait for the check. Once again the two servers were chatting, no heads turned to check on their tables. My son went over to get the check. When the check arrived, it was attitude city. She accused us of picking on her because she was only a server. It's obviously how she saw herself. We then asked for the manager who was quick to side with the server. She said that nothing seemed to satisfy us and that we had a problem. IN SHARP CONTRAST. I have been to the Speckled Egg on the South Side many times. From the Host/Hostess to the servers to the bus staff, everyone had a smile, chatted with their customers, laughed and it was always a great experience. The manager came over since he recognized me from being there many times and we chatted for a minute. We are talking Night and Day. Completely two different experiences from server to management styles. To me there is only one Speckled Egg and one complete waste of time (Downtown).

She appeared overwhelmed by her role and was not warm. We were actually told by the waiters that "she is serious about her list". Which would be great if she managed it effectively. When I brought concerns that we had been pushed down the list 3 times for other parties. She responded "well, how do you know that" to which I responded "we watched you take their names down after ours and sit them before us". Her response was to shoo me off and tell me to go find a table myself; to which I did. But what a poor way to manage your stress, responsibility, and consumers. On the bright side my waiter/waitress was awesome per usual.
