Oxtails with rice, greens, sweet potatoes, corn bread
    Lonnie J.

My husband and I have driven by the location a few times, but were never sure if they were open. There's also a "masks required" sign on the front so we never went in. The sign is obviously from the beginning of COVID days and just never took it down . Don't let it stop you! Firstly, the portions are massive. Like 3 meals massive. The food is laid out typical cafeteria style where you tell them what you want and they plate it. I ordered the ox tails and my husband ordered the meatloaf. The ox tails were soooo tender and flavorful. I was in heaven on the first bite! The greens were cooked well and they had pepper vinegar sauce to put on it which added my typical preference of a more vinegary taste. The peach cobbler is outstanding and I'm not a peach cobbler fan. Very flavorful without being too sweet and the crust is yummm. 10/10 would recommend. You'll get a couple meals from the one plate! The service is great with the typical southern, small town kindness. We will for sure be repeat customers and I'm excited for the fried chicken!

Waiting for mommy to pick up our food to go

Down home cuisine. Was there on a Sunday morning and there was a line when I got there. Great food in a family environment.

Are they still open? Stopped there for lunch today (Oct 9, 2018 at 12:00pm) & the place was closed & looked deserted.

Yes still open. Great folks run this place. Small town charm food is good, cornbread is fantastic, highly recommended

You order at the counter and they bring it to your table. The gals working at the counter were very friendly. My daughter ordered a catfish po-boy and I got a dinner portion of their Lo Country boil. I should have had the lunch portion as I ended up taking half of it home. The lo country boil was the classic shrimp, sausage, red potatoes and corn. It was perfectly seasoned with just the right amount of kick. The cocktail sauce served with it had a perfect amount of horseradish. We also shared an order of "firecracker" shrimp. So tasty. My daughter reports her sandwich was tasty if a bit bready. The portion of catfish on the sandwich was plentiful. Sally Mae's is just off the interstate and worth seeking out if you are in the area.

The mac and cheese was fine but not great, the brunswick stew was watery, and the banana pudding was super liquidy and tasted like sunscreen (my husband said soap lol). It was also mostly whipped cream somehow. The hickory bbq sauce was great, the hush puppies were fine with the cinnamon butter, and the cornbread was really good. The portions are also TINY for the price. Staff was nice but we will not be back.

Options seem to rotate. One day you're getting spaghetti and meatloaf, another day you're getting stew and pork. But the staples like fried chicken, mash potatoes and macaroni seem constant. The fried chicken, coincidentally, was the best thing I've tried, with the stew coming in a close second. There are MANY options so we definitely got our money's worth. The desserts look they're homemade as well. $15-16 including a drink is a great value. I tried it to-go the other day and it's charged based on weight. The price still ended up topping out as the same price as the buffet, so sitting down is definitely the best and only real option. Overall this is a great option after church or for lunch. In a city like Jesup with so few independent restaurants, this one is one of the best!

We were hungry and the buffet did not disappoint. We had pork chop, fried chicken, sausages and southern country veggies as well as many other offerings. There were several sauces on the table one being local cane syrup which my husband loves on cornbread. The interior is family style tables, nothing fancy but a local favorite so who would complain. I think it gets busy here because the food is good, homemade and plentiful. People were friendly and since being a local favorite establishment, many of the patrons knew each other and were joining others at their tables. Very family oriented...reminiscent of firehouse style eating. Go try it out!!!

Since reading the reviews prior to visiting, I wanted to try the Oyster Po-Boy. On the lunch menu, they had Combos where you can order a half Po-Boy along with soup or Gumbo for $13.95. The Oyster Po-Boy added an extra $1.00. So that's what I ordered----half oyster Po-Boy with Shrimp & Corn soup. The soup tasted like it may have been homemade. It was excellent with at least 6 medium size shrimp along with a delicious corn and seafood broth. The half Po-Boy was definitely a good size packed with large fried oysters. They had a separate room which I didn't visit. I'm guessing for larger parties or overflow. I believe they also serve alcohol although I didn't see a bar when I was there. The ambiance has a jazzy New Orleans vibe to it and the food does too. You can get a plain American breakfast or sausage and gravy over the best home made biscuits in town. The grits were the best cheesy grits I've had in S Kendra was our lovely waitress who had a beautiful intoxicating smile. She recommended several of her favorite dishes and all were spot on. She obviously loves where she works. Not only has the menu been expanded to accommodate an evening meal but the space has been expanded to include a bar with seating area, extended seating and two pool tables. We Will definitely plan our next trip back for lunch or dinner. In fact, this might just become our new local when we visit our kids in HiltonHead SC.
