I had an appointment with the owner, Tony, for a cut and style. After getting my hair washed, I sat down in his chair and we talked about what I wanted. He agreed and started cutting my hair. Then he excused himself for a minute and took a phone call. He came back and started cutting my hair again, but then put his iPhone up to his ear and started talking on the phone, cradling it while using both his hands to cut my hair. He was very animated on the phone, not paying attention to what he was doing, and kept cutting and cutting my hair. I never want short hair, and I told him that. However, while he was on the phone, he shaved my neck and cut the back of my hair, also a close shave to 1/2 " max. I was stunned. And it was expensive! My hair looks terrible. So gross, they really need to work on their cleanliness. I came in a for a cut and blowdry, and found that all of the scissors, brushes, and hair clips are reused on customers without cleaning them in between. The scissors used on my hair were pulled from under a pair of dirty scissors - i hadn't noticed a first, until I leaned in and found red hairs on the tools (I'm not a red head). Round brushes used during my blowdry were pulled and dropped into the same pile. The person blow drying my hair actually dropped one of clips on the floor, picked it up, and REUSED IT IN MY HAIR! For goodness sakes, go get another clip! Never going back. read more

After they cancelled my appointment 3 times, I finally got to see Toni, the owner. He did not listen to what I wanted for color or cut. I requested highlights and low lights and he said "No" that is not what I am doing - and so the technician proceeded. He put very light streaks in my hair, and it looked totally unnatural and the bleach ruined my hair. I believe he was using the left over product from the woman before me. My hair is totally ruined and I am still trying to grow out the mess he created. He is a know it all, does not listen, and spends as much time on the phone, as doing your hair. Not sure why there are no other reviews for this place. I guess I'll be the first, since I certainly wish I'd had some warning of this place before I went there. I decided to try this salon based on them having won some favorable mentions in various VA area mags, but my experience was far from praiseworthy. I tried this salon 4 or so times before giving up and going elsewhere. I booked with the owner, Antoine, or Tony, so I can only speak to what it's like to have an appt. with him. There are other stylists that may be better. When you book with Tony, know that he will, without a doubt, be working on at least 3 other people at the same time. Which means that you will spend a lot of time sitting around waiting for it to be your turn while he hops from person to person, and also that a process that should take 1.5 hours (partial foil and trim) will take 3 hours. Also, he has a swarm of college-age girls hanging around doing his bidding, so, even though you've booked with Tony, he will tell one of his underlings to finish your color or blow-dry your hair. So you're paying top-dollar for the owner but having the work done by someone who's not even a stylist. Tony seems to know what he's doing and be very knowledgeable, but he doesn't listen. This isn't surprising as he spends 99% of his time talking into the phone piece that's attached to his ear and ignoring you. But he argued with me about what I wanted to do to my hair. He was sure he knew better, and I hated both how he cut it and how he styled it. And when I went back later and tried to get him to change the style, he just kept doing the same thing all over again. Like I said, he doesn't listen. The place is hugely overpriced, especially for such bad service. It cost $230 for what I've gotten done (much better) elsewhere for $120 or $150. Plus, by the time you leave you'll have had at least 4 different people touching your hair, so if you're someone who feels obligated to tip each of those people, you'll be broke walking out of there. The place is nice and stylish and it's a very convenient location, and Tony's a nice enough guy despite his many faults. For these reasons I gave the place several tries, but in the end I really regret giving this place my money. Save yourself the trouble and go to Bubbles in Fairfax Corner. read more

Before I go further: Dani H is the owner's profile--if you go to the filtered reviews, you'll see another posting by "Dani" under the name "Salon A"--this guy gave himself A FALSE AND RAVE REVIEW. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? Gave himself 5 stars in response to complaint review--this should tell you lots! I am sad to say that after 6 years of patronizing Salon Antoine for cuts and color, I am not going back. I should also say that the reason I am posting this review here, and not going back to the salon to have them "fix" my recent haircut and resolve this issue with them is because: a) I have already had to go back twice (for 2 different stylists) for "fixes", and I am beginning to feel like a bother--even though for $60-85 dollars, it should be right the first time. And, b) Tony (the owner) always thinks he's right, so, I expect nothing less than him challenging me, or trying to give me an explanation to try and talk me into liking my haircut. I had a wonderful stylist named Dottie.Recently, Dottie left the salon to retire. She is the one who cut my hair in my profile picture posted on Yelp! I trusted her. Not once in 8 years did I ever have to return for a "fix." She was just awesome. Since I felt loyal to the salon, I decided to try other stylists--it just never worked out. First I had a "apprentice" stylist, which cost about $40 or so. She was nice enough, but she is very young, with limited experience, and I tried her out 3 times--2 of which the owner, Tony, had to correct. I should take this opportunity to say there are 2 receptionists: Flora, and the other one. The other one is a box of rocks. I swear to you, not smart, at all. When I would call to make an appointment and I heard her pick up the phone, I would hang up--just so that I didn't have to deal with the aggravation. Flora is wonderful!!!! I love her! Very nice, and professional. The other receptionist said, "Well, there won't be a charge today." Yes, of course there won't be a charge, I came in because the stylist F***ed up the first time. Why would I pay again? Like I said, not a bright girl. So... I moved on to another stylist, I won't reveal her name, but, she is a nice person with a fun attitude, but I honestly think she talks more than she pays attention to your cut. Since I knew her for years from coming in to see Dottie, I figured she would be a great new stylist. I have short hair--there is no margin for error. It's not like if you have shoulder length hair and you make a length mistake, you can just fix it by taking off an inch. I have short, short hair--pixie length. I didn't think this would be so hard to cut. I even brought in many pictures of what Dottie had done, and the stylist would look quickly at them. I'd say, "Do you want me to leave the picture out?" And she'd say, "No, I got it." Well, she didn't get it. Not only didn't she get the cut, she didn't even make it even in the back. Even my co-workers remarked about the un-evenness. I came back in for a fix, again, with a second stylist. After going through 2 stylists, I decided I should head right to Tony, the owner, and start booking with him. I had been happy with the fixes he did to my hair, and decided to give him a try. It costs $85 to be seen by him, mind you. I think I've gone 3 times to him now. And, that is enough. He is confrontational, ignores you, is always busy with something else, is totally impersonal, and acts like he's doing you a favor by cutting your hair. When I am seen by him, I NEVER EVER feel welcome, ever. A.S. described it perfectly in her posting: Works on 3 other people at at time, doesn't listen to you, barely engages you, and is in a constant hurry to do something else. For $85, he should be just working on me. If you're too busy, see less clients. I don't know, that's just me. His questions about how you are doing seem forced and arbitrary. More than once he has been insulting. When I showed him pictures of the haircut I wanted he'd say: "That's very masculine." (This coming from a guy with a ponytail.) Another time I told him I was going on vacation, and he said, "Where are you all going?" I said, "It's just me." He goes, "Oh, that doesn't sound too fun." Judgmental. Awesome. Recently, when I said one side looked heavier than the other, he made me feel uncomfortable. I said, "Well, I'm not trying to challenge you, but it is my head." He said: "I don't get challenged." Wow. Then, someone else dries and styles your hair--he has other clients, he can't be bothered with you. Nevermind that the experience is never comfortable. He hurries through cutting, pulling at your head, putting your head in awkward positions that don't need to be put in. He was so rough on my ears, that my ears went red. I said "OW"--he didn't even stop or slow down. He just took the shears, and just started shaving off furiously. I am a guy and got Tony. Was given a generic hair cut, and was probably the shortest (in time spent cutting) hair cut of my life, to the point where it seemed like he didn't even care about it. Prior to this, I was receiving great haircuts, for way cheaper... He seemed more interested in pushing me to buy from his son's pizza place rather than giving an actual haircut. Totally disappointed for a 50 dollar hair cut, guys don't go to a salon in hopes of receiving a short cut with a flip in the front... Could've gotten the same treatment at a barber shop. I have been getting my hair colored, cut and highlighted for probably over 12 years by Tony, the owner of Salon Antoine. He is truly passionate about his work and wants all of his clients to love the way they look AND feel when they leave the salon. He always has some great ideas to tweak my look so I don't end of looking like some "tired soccer mom" (or in my case...lacrosse, baseball, XC ...etc). I usually just tell him "Whatever you think" when he asks, what style or color I am thinking abIt never fails, that I get multiple compliments on my hair! His whole team is top notch! Flora the receptionist is as sweet as can be, and super efficient! I know some people have commented that he sometimes works on multiple people at a time....and this does happen on occasion, but I NEVER feel like I am sacrificing a top notch outcome. The ladies that work with him have trained with him for years....he is always within 3-4 feet of what they are doing and he always handles the more complicated or majority of the process. They may dry my hair....but he always does the styling and finishing touches. The last two ladies that worked for him for years went on to become full fledged stylists, with a great following of their own too! I never feel like I am being short changed....and if you did, I'm sure if you said something, he would do 100% himself, it just might take you longer to get done. I also think that part of why he does this is so that people don't have to wait weeks to get in, when they call. I always feel sorry for my friends who have major roots showing--and can't get into their person for three weeks! Tony is always able to get me in within a few days of when I want to be seen. I've used the spa services a few times, manis, brows, facials etc. and they were well done also. ---On a side note, he is truly a good guy in addition to great stylist. When I was diagnosed with advanced breast cancer seven years ago, Tony was the one who shaved my head (after hours) when I couldn't deal with the clumps falling out anymore and could t emotionally handle my husband or friends doing it for me. He also styled and thinned out my wig when it came in, so that it looked exactly like my real hair. He donates his time to St. Balderick's event to raise money for kids with cancer and has shaved many heads for that worthy cause. You will love your experience at Salon Antoine! read more

I have not actually been to the salon. I made the appointment and then found the review here. I decided to call the salon to find out whether what I read here was correct. I had an appointment with Tony and asked if I would be seen by only him (since I wanted an experienced person coloring and highlighting). The receptionist said no; he would do the consultation and supervise but his assistants would do the color and cut. Because of this, I cancelled the appointment. I also asked about the time it would take, and she did say it would take longer because I was new. I appreciate the honesty and suggest anyone else with questions just ask. I've had new stylists do my hair in the past at other salons and wanted someone experienced to wow me this time. I went in for a 2 inch trim and some lighter balayage highlights for summer. I came out with three inches or more gone, with darker hair and a few random blonde "chunks" all over my head. I naturally have medium brown hair and I brought in a picture that showed balayage with a brunette base and some blonde/strawberry highlights. My stylist immediately started telling me this wouldn't work or look good on me. Instead she showed me a darker brown/red color swatch she could dye my whole head then maybe add some blonde highlights. I felt bullied into agreeing with her if I wanted my hair done at all. She said she would make it look like the picture so I said okay. As she was rinsing the color out she said "Oh uh, well, this doesn't look like the picture, but its nice I guess" WHAT?! It didn't look like the picture at all. I now have almost black hair with a crazy amount of blonde highlights on the bottom, two very large chunks on the sides of my head, and one random chunk of blonde on the back of my head. My theory is that she was tired and just didn't feel like doing my whole head.... I said I wanted two inches cut off at the most, but before she started coloring, so grabbed my hair and cut off two or more inches right away. So after the color was washed and it was ready to cut I asked nicely not to take off any more length overall, just to add some layers. She told me no. No layers. So I asked again and she said "fine just a little". I do not have layers. I left almost in tears. I felt bullied and not listened to at all. At least I got 20% off for being a referral. They told me I had one week to come in to fix it if I wasn't happy but NO WAY am I going to trust them with my hair again. read more

I only went here because I had a spawish e-card through Groupon. The manager told me that they don't ever take Groupon or Spawish and never have. I went to Salon Antoine on a recommendation from a good friend. I've had horrible experiences in the past because my hair is curly, quite thick and hard to handle. I went in expecting to have a style that I hate but I was extremely happy and surprised with the outcome. I know the other posts talk about the owner Tony, who was very nice, but I will be going to see Mariam from now on. She was so pleasant and patient while I explained what I was looking for. I think they follow the same process because she tested the color on me before we continued. Once I was done with my color she cut and styled my hair. Most other stylists try to leave my hair curly because they're either too lazy or scared to try and straiten it. Mariam on the other hand asked what I wanted to do and didn't flinch when I asked for it straight. When we were done my hair was so glossy and the color looked amazing! You couldn't even tell that I have naturally curly hair! She recommended some products I could use to maintain my look and I was happy with those as well. It was well worth the money and I hope the salon holds on to her because I would follow Mariam anywhere she goes! read more

I have to agree with the other reviewer who says that while Tony may "oversee" your appointment, don't expect his focused attention (and it can cause stress for tipping multiple people). With that being said, I went to him for color correction and it was obvious he is very expert in it and certainly took the time to look at my hair, try to fix the issue and pick a color. I could tell that he knew his stuff and was happy that he tested a color on a hidden piece of hair before just taking a guess on how it would turn out. He is certainly direct in his opinions (which I appreciate) but I also felt his judgment was pretty spot-on. I may give them another try. read more

Save your money, I have gotten highlights/lowlights for years and never have assistants (2 of them) used hair boards, they do this at hair training school. The owner was unfortunately my stylist and was MIA or in his office or on his cell phone while I waited for his 2 assistants to finish. This whole process took 3 hours. Tony did do the trimming and with my shoulder length hair it was the worst trim I had gotten in years.
