I've been coming here for a long time. My stylist, who is good, did what she called a "mini, mini touch up of roots." Basically, color applied to 1 inch on each side of temple and my part line. When she went to the owner at the register, she told him. I did not have blow out or anything else. He stated $65 for this tiny touch up of color. IMO, incredibly overpriced. I have been to this place three times to two different stylists. All three times they cut my hair way shorter than I asked. The second stylist I requested because she gives a good haircut but not what you requested. Stylists here dress nice like they do at most places. But my stylist was dressed like a clown, in a sweater with wide orange and white stripes and a yellow winter beanie. She looked like someone in a child's TV show. It was very unprofessional and off putting. The price was $68 plus tip. They charge a fee for using a credit card. The tip must be cash. It had been a long hot minute since my last haircut, and I was looking for somewhere that could fit me in that same day. It was a weekday;however, 2 places I visited had no availability and when I walked into Five Star, they could see me within an hour. The front desk woman was Incredibly kind. I took the first available stylist; however, she was awesome and I'm glad I received my haircut from her. I requested a pretty minimal job: cut a 1/2 inch off and touch up my layers. I appreciate that, despite my simple request, my stylist was thorough and constantly checked to make sure I was happy with my hair. I scheduled an appointment for 8 weeks, and I am definitely looking forward to returning to the same stylist and same cut then. absolultely worst nail and hair salon.The workers were disgusting, I saw one pick their nose and rub it on the counter . It was honestly giving off kidnapper old men vibes and my nails came out chunky and the polish came of right after application. The ferocious lady at the counter charged me for picking out the red color and I requested Christmas and I got some puke looking combination of red and chunks of my old yellow polish that she failed to remove. It smelled of my grandma's gym socks from 1897. Outside, an old man asked if he could sniff my hair and when he did, rats came out and his face was covered with dandruff and rat feces. read more

I was assigned to Sook (she supposedly had high level experience). She was not very friendly towards me. I told her all I needed was a trim. Then she tried to make me do a shampoo and got nasty when I told her I didn't need a shampoo, "just a simple bang trim and 1 inch of my long hair." This review is for the nails side only. When the lady who used to do my nails moved back to her country and I realized I wasn't as happy with the other ladies at that salon, I knew I didn't want to return to the crappy (yet cheap) nail salons of times past. Because my mother's nails always look good, and because she has been going to the same lady for a good while, I asked her who to see, and she said Enoira, hands down. So I made an appointment. Enoira reminds me very much of Patricia, who used to do my nails. It could be that they're about the same age, and both South American, but I think really its the way they work, and the fact that they take their job seriously. One of my complaints about the lady I liked better at the old place was that she always seemed rushed. Enoira took her time, asked me several times if she needed to do anything differently, and genuinely seemed concerned with pleasing me with her work. And she did - my shellac manicure looks great, and is neater and better done than the work from the old place. Oh, and did I mention she doesn't charge as much either? When I told her how much I was paying at my old salon, she almost fell out of her chair. I have no reason to go there for my haircut (although my mother has been going for years and loves her sylist), but I absolutely have found a new nail home. Enoira is fantastic, and everyone else in the salon was super nice as well. So in the past I've had only positive experiences, but recently I was there for a manicure. I made an appointment via the online scheduler, but when I arrived, the manicurist was bitching about staying late for my appointment. How am I supposed to know her schedule? She did my manicure, and then started getting ready to leave, before I was dry or anything. Didn't even say anything about it, just got up and started packing up literally the second the last coat went on my nails. I was contacted by the owner for complimentary service for hair and eyebrows. He suggested Giselle for hair and Jeanie for eyebrow waxing. He was very polite and professional on the phone and via e-mail and I thought it would be nice if this works out this time since I have only good things to tell about the staff attitude and manner. I went to 5-star Hair in Burke to get a hair cut and highlights. It was my first time there; I was a little late for my appointment but was introduced to Giselle right away. Before we got started she went over all the options as far as the different techniques she could use to give me the look I was after. I'm in my late 60's and also wanted help with a come-over on my ever-expanding bald spot as well as some kind of highlighting to mute my gray hair. She spent the time necessary to go over the process she thought would be best, It wasn't what I was planning on, but I said ok let's do it. All I can say is she totally nailed it! I posted a review of the stylist I had, who gave me a HORRID haircut and the salon has been making a supremely awesome effort to rectify the situation, and I understand the salon is trying to figure out who saw me the day I received this haircut (as I was placed with another stylist than the one I booked). I really really appreciated this on behalf the the salon management. Kudos to them for following up on it and taking charge of the situation. Very clean - nice ambiance - great customer service - and great manicures! Based on other reviews here, I decided to try Five Star Hair & Nails today for a manicure. I called 30 minutes before going and was given a same-afternoon appointment. When I arrived, I was promptly greeted by a friendly staff member. I soon thereafter sat down with my manicurist, Lily, who did a fantastic job on my dry, damaged cuticles and short, bitten nails. Everyone I interacted with at Five Star was friendly and professional, and my manicure experience was great. The salon is relaxing - quiet, warmly lit, and very clean. Nice ambiance. And all without pretentiousness. Manis and pedis are done in one part of the salon, hair on another. Nice product selection available for sale at the front of the store as well. If I didn't already have a favorite hair stylist at another salon, I would be trying out hair salon services on my next visit. The hair salon area looked really nice, and the two stylists I saw working appeared to be very experienced and good at what they do. Prices are a tad on the high side, but well worth it (at least for the manicures) for the great results and the warm, unpretentious atmosphere. Nice perk for first time customers - they give a 5% discount on services for new patrons. I didn't know about this until checking out. I didn't have to ask for it, I was told about it as I was paying. It was automatically given to me just for being a first time customer. Another plus - Five Star Hair & Nails is located in the Burke Centre Shopping Center - near Safeway, restaurants, Jiffy Lube, and other stores. Easy to get to (from where I live anyway) and plenty of parking. I will definitely be returning for future manicures, and if the need ever arises for me to find a new hair stylist, I will be coming to Five Star Hair & Nails for that as well. read more

i LOVE this place! I get my eyebrows, hair, and occasionally nails done here. Melana is the only woman I trust to do my eyebrows after having unsuccessful attempts other places and Gael is a a miracle worker with my hair! I will admit the first time I went I was upset with my haircut, and then my mother told me to try Gael, and I am so glad I did!! She knows exactly what would work with my type of hair and nudges me away from things that wouldn't work. This was my first time at this salon but I had a great experience. My nail aesthetician was gentle but thorough, and she effortlessly got me to feel comfortable and right at home in the salon. I was even offered a robe to change out of my skinny jeans (silly me) for my pedicure and then reminded to change back before the polish application - great service. I had a shellac polish done on my nails and even though my nails are currently particularly short and damaged, she got them to look great. While getting our nails done, my fiend and I decided it would be great to also get our hair trimmed. The salon accommodated our request and as soon as our nails were done, our hair wash began. My only complaint is that I wish the hair basins had some padding behind the neck. The wash came with a lovely scalp massage, but it was difficult to relax and enjoy it while my neck was sore (I should add that I had a sore neck before entering so this may not have bothered me as much on another day). After chatting with my stylist, we decided that my trim should turn into a cut. I loved her cut and style so I took a risk and chopped 8" off my hair. I love it! Beautiful long layers and great movement in my new style. I would absolutely visit this establishment again! read more

If you have watched America's Got Talent, then you know they give the "Golden Buzzer" for something exceptional. Today I'm giving the Golden Buzzer to Nicole at Five Star. First of all, thanks to the wonderful owner, whom I know, for getting me in. She asked if I had a particular stylist. Since I have never been there, she gave me Nicole. Since we are in the middle of the COVID pandemic, my regular stylist, of 26 years, who happens to own her own salon, is not available at this time. So why not try someone new on this hair that is basically a mop. Nicole hit it out of the park. She also knew the bar was high in comparison to my regular stylist. Julie cut my hair and did a fine job, this review isn't about a stylist but the owner. He's rude and abrasive and the reason we won't go back. Prices are high and you always have to wait. I tried them three times and all three times checking in and out were the worst because of the owner. When you go to a salon you want it to be a relaxing experience, the owner puts you on edge due to his dismissive and harsh personality. The salon staff will tell you privately he's an ass but they need to work. Ceiling ducts are filthy when you are in the shampoo chair and look up all you see if thick dust and dirt in the ventilation system. That's not healthy. Heads up - the owner won't let you put the tip on the credit card, so be warned to bring cash. He didn't mention that fact on the phone when I called the first time to make an appt so I had to go and cash a check and make a second trip back so the staff had tips. (which they should have, I want to be clear this isn't about them or the tip) Find out when the owner is out and make your appointment for that day. read more

Only reason i'm giving them one star is because there is no option for zero stars. Horrendous management. Owner states below on one of the reviews that they will fully refund you if you are not happy with the services provided, but what he does not say is that they will boot you from the salon if you ask for a refund. Also, was getting my nails done just a few weeks ago, and the woman did a great job, however there is an Asian lady that works there as a nail technician that is the loudest, most annoying person I have ever seen. This was my 3rd time going in, and each time she was there. It amazes me that the management doesn't tell her to shut her mouth. The stylist that I saw also told me that this salon is going downhill fast, and it's so bad that they don't even give paid time off to their employees. And the review down below that states that the owner/manager was yelling at the employees to clean up was spot on. That is Penny, and she enjoys carrying her weight around (literally). she's got a big mouth for someone who does absolutely nothing but sit on her butt all day. I found a great salon in Springfield that is much much better, and I've been going there for a while now. Their prices are a lot lower, the management is awesome, and the stylists are great. I've actually been dreading writing a review for this place ,but here goes. I went to get my mani/ pedi and eyebrow wax during the weekday. The nail tech I worked with was very nice. She was very professional and did a nice job on my feet , and my eyebrows looked great. After I had my toes done I looked around for the nail dryer and there where none. I was told I had to wait around 30 mis to dry. Considering this is the first time I went to a nail place that didn't have nail dryers I ended up not getting polish on my nails. Bummer While getting my nails done the owner/manager came around with her voice raised telling the employees to clean up this and that. I really felt bad for them. A manager/owner being rude to employees in front of customers is the worst. Finally as I was leaving the front desk was a zoo. I waited around a while to pay and left. As I was getting into my car my toes which I thought had finally dried where in fact NOT dry and I smudged almost a whole foot!! I called to come back in another day, but had a feeling it was going to happen again because they won't dry without a dryer (Unless I hang out for an hour). I didn't return. I was thinking of going back to get my eyebrows done, but never again for mani/pedi minus no dryer. I also haven't returned because of the manager. Sad. read more

Horrible manicure experience. I paid for a classic manicure and given that I was out the door in 15 minutes; it seems that I was given an express manicure. I asked about getting hot towels and was told that's only for the ultimate. What I read was a massage from elbow to fingertips; what I received was a 30 second per hand anxious to finish slight rub. And finally, my manicurist got up twice during my service to do something and then as soon as she was finished with me; she got up and walked away for good without saying anything. Just bad service! Although I don't change my hairstyle THAT often, when I do she provides sound advice and when it's just a trim, it's still fantastic work. Here are the pros and cons of my visit: Pros: Clean place/ Friendly, knowledgeable staffs Cool circular, no chemicals smell They carry the OPI polish/ Shellac (it's $20 extra) Many options for manicure/pedicure service with affordable price No appointment needed Comfortable massage chairs Good location easy parking lot available (next to Safeway) Cons: The technicians were very nice, but the girl was walking around with high heels, inappropriate clothes and tattoo is actually a DUDE (it's so easy to spot check) I can't imagine if you have to ask her (HIM ) to perform a personal wax???? With the "Classic" manicure/pedicure, you're meant to get a 5 minute foot massage and 5 minute hand massage, but I think my massages lasted about 60 seconds each. Overall, it was fine, but definitely not somewhere to go if you want to be pampered. I'd say it's totally good for a quick, decent service, but if you're looking for a relaxing spa experience, this place is not for you. It was better than most walk-in nail spas I've been to, but there were certainly improvements that could be made. read more

My long-time hair dresser retired last year, but I was confident that the other girls were able to help me out. I am a male and got some wax work done on my back here a while back and have been coming back on a monthly basis now for almost a year. I always receive excellent service and they get me in and out quick, no waiting what so ever. I've had waxing done at other places but Tammy is by far the highest skilled esthetician I've ever dealt with. She is very professional and works with me around my busy weekly schedule, even on weekends if need be.
