I came into Salon Daniel for my appointment I had scheduled with Heather and I have to say right from the start I felt completely welcomed. I was greeted by the front desk with such a warm Hello that it set the tone for the whole appointment, shortly after I was greeted by Heather and she was nothing but helpful and attentive to all my questions I had about my hair. I wanted to go lighter for the summer so she recommended getting some Balayage highlights to add some brightness. While I was in the salon during my appointment i was greeted by all the staff and just felt very comfortable in the salon. When I was getting shampooed I had an assistant do it for me and it was INCREDIBLE the assistant gave me the best shampoo and I felt completely relaxed. I got a groupon for a balayage with Mer. She was super nice, personable and friendly. I loved how she listened to all of my concerns and what I wanted. I was pleasantly surprised with the results I have dark hair and she gave me an amazing balayage to a light ashy-ish blonde. I had previously had what I thought was a balayage somewhere else turns it they gave me highlights but Mer was able to correct it! The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because otherwise it's expensive unless they have a Groupon. Maybe making the prices a little more accesible to the average person would be nice, overall I had a great experience. read more

Very clean salon, friendly front desk, and nice hair stylist. I specifically went to see Mer because of the Groupon promotion. I came out of the salon very content with my balayage and haircut, but when I showered the next day and saw my hair natural without the curls and hair products I was slightly disappointed. Please don't get a facial here! The aesthetician (I think she's the only one) took me 30 minutes late. She was very rough with my skin--not a soothing experience. She left me alone in the room with product and a cold, wet washcloth on my face for at least 10 minutes, but it could have been almost 20. In the 5 days since I received the facial, my normally soft skin has been fiery, painful to the touch, and rough--flaking off and not accepting makeup well. I got the eye treatment and the area around my eyes is painful to the touch. I asked for some help from the salon on how to fix this and haven't been called back. I was also upcharged $25 over the website prices without my permission (manager 2-days and 2 phone calls later refunded me). read more

So, listen to this. I decided to chop my hair, in need of a "new me." My hair was down past the middle of my back (now it stops at my chin), and as a mom, I was not styling due to time restraints. I shopped all over the internet looking for someone who would take my hair, that I felt I trusted. I called Salon Daniel and this lady gets on the phone (a true lady) she introduces herself as Sarah and says she can cut my hair, she has short hair and I should just come in. So I did. I got so much more than what I bargained for. I really felt sick to my stomach to make this change but I knew I had made the right decision when I got home and my man had a huge smile on his face, (and you know how our guys like long hair). Or maybe it was when the guy that works on my car walked out of his shop and caught me in the street to tell me how good my hair looks. No wait, maybe it was when the UPS guy asked for me by name because he had seen me walk to the back of the office and he wanted to get a full look at my new cut. My boss asked me if I was new at the office, my supervisor went completely nuts and best of all, I feel like a sexy million dollar bill with a great attitude. I am so happy that I was blessed with Sarah in my life. I normally go to hair cuttery and I have a stylist who cuts my hair. I have been very happy for a long time with her and now... I don't think I can go back, not after this. All my many thanks to Salon Daniel and especially Sarah for following your dreams girl and using the talents you were given to bless a girl like me. I needed this so badly, and you have changed my world. Thank you so much, I had no idea a cut could do so much. Oh, and by the way. I have never had sexier "bed head" in my life! After doing some research, I decided to give Daniel, the owner or Salon Daniel, a try for a haircut. What a mistake. While Daniel is an experienced and talented stylist he does not listen to the client at all. I tried to explain to him what I wanted in my haircut but he was not interested in listening. Very arrogant, he knew best therefore the opinion of the client does not matter. I also found it impersonal that while he was working on my haircut, he was taking working on three clients at the same. I am not referring to the usual let the color process in a client's hair while you work on someone else, he was cutting three people's hair at the same time. The way it worked was: three women waiting on chairs with washed hair ready to be cut, Daniel alternated spending some time with each of the clients. In all he probably spent 20 tops in my hair. I have gone to many very good salons in Mclean and DC and have experience this. Parking and location are convenient and the salon and staff are very pleasant, however the haircuts, at least with Daniel, are not worth the money. Could get a much better and tailored to your needs haircut in many other salons in the area. read more

Simon has been my stylist for 18 years, and I'm 36 years old. I always trust him to 'do whatever he wants' as he has a vision for my best look that is second to none. I get stopped regularly and asked, "Who does your hair?" Simon was the only person I trusted when it came to my daughter's first hair cut, and she went with me again today, but wanted a big girl haircut like mommy. I am happy to report that Simon not only does my mother's hair, my hair, but also my daughter's hair. He is efficient, and has that magic touch for sure. Salon Daniel is personal and friendly. My first visit was welcoming from the moment I walked in the door. Friendly staff greet you upon entering and are not too busy to answer any questions. From receptionists to stylist everyone is friendly, and happy to assist. I saw many people/families come into the salon for all services. I was impressed at the flow of traffic through the salon and the continued hospitality. I was there for highlights and a cut. Im so happy. I will be back. Daniel took great care of me. I was super super disappointed in my experience here. I had an appointment with Simone for ombre color. When I arrived, he complained that my hair was damp. Fine I get it. It added a few more minute to the process. He bleached my hair for the ombre, all the while trying to force conversation and complaining that Groupon (which I had one) had over discounted his services. When the bleaching was done, he had the shampoo girl apply the tint for my ombre. When I got back to the mirror I noticed the color already looked like a faded pink in some areas rather than the red I wanted. When I pointed it out to him, he insisted that it was because I picked the wrong color not because it had been applied unevenly. Finally, I got him to put on a different color, which just looked kind of faded and sad from the start. By that point I was just ready to leave even though he had started blow drying my hair without a) combing it out first or b) doing the deep conditioning treatment that was included in the Groupon. When I saw my friend that night, she commented that my hair was different. I told her I had gotten it done that day and was not pleased. She looked shocked at said it looked like it was a cute hair color that was done a month ago that had grown out and faded... the description was entirely too accurate. Luckily, most of the terrible coloring was gone by in 3 days so I was able to re-dye the red myself. Basically, I've had better dye jobs at from teaching salons. read more

I got my hair cut and balayage. I really liked how it turned out, but there were a few grey pieces I wanted to get fixed. When I called they were so sweet so I came in to get it fixed. My hair stylist I got was Miriam. I have never been so appalled by her attitude. She started blaming me why my hair was white because the photo I showed. Except the photo I showed was truly blonde balayage. She ended up toning my hair and kept saying your hair was fine before I don't know why you are getting it fixed and then called me a bitch in spanish. Even though I was sitting there quietly with my mom. After the toner it turned my hair orange and I was really un happy and she started yelling at me saying it wasn't orange and that she won't do anything to fix it. Then another stylist Hilda came along saying she will fix it, but Miriam kept saying no. Eventually Hilda took me to the side and started to fix my hair. When Hilda fully dried my hair it was apparent to her and me that my hair was not just orange, but each half of my hair was different colors. Hilda was the sweetest lady ever and spent 5 hours fixing Miriam mess. We ended up having to stay really late, but she never spoke one rude word and you could tell she was very invested in fixing my hair. Hilda is absolutely amazing, but I am still shocked by Miriam behavior she was honestly the rudest person I ever met. read more

This salon is definitely top notch and I do highly recommend! I arrived and was greeted very warmly by front-desk staff who immediately offered me a drink of my choice. I didn't have to wait at all for my stylist, Lilly who was so sweet and VERY knowledgeable and creative. I have biracial hair, so it is very hard to find a stylist who knows how to handle my hair. Lilly did an amazing job and after showing her a couple pictures of what I was thinking, took control and knew exactly how to work with my hair! Upon leaving the salon, I was given a goody bag of samples and because it was my birthday week, offered 15% off a product! Daniel is a good hair cutter. Unfortunately, he is under the impression that he is an artiste. He's not. He's a good hair cutter. With tip, it cost me $130 and for that price I expect to be treated like a valued customer. One typical experience. My hair was washed and wet. I was told to wait in the reception area for the artiste to appear. I was on time for the first appointment of the day -- no excuse about appointments running over. About a half hour later I was still sitting. I finally asked the receptionist when Daniel might put in an appearance. She told me he was just pulling into the garage. No he wasn't. After 20 minutes I left, never to return. At earlier appointments he had a cellphone draped around his neck and talked on it during the entire appointment. This guy is an arrogant buffoon. But a good hair cutter. read more

I would not recommend anyone to use Daniel as a hairdresser. I've recently moved to McLean, and called this salon for the first time and scheduled an appointment one day in advance. After being on hold for five minutes and listening to an advertising message, the receptionist finally answers and schedules me for a hairdresser named Daniel. I came on time but I spent 40 minutes just waiting for the Daniel. Finally, after my hair was washed, I waited yet another 20 minutes while Daniel cut someone else's hair and then (FINALLY!) he started to cut my hair but really didn't focus on me since he was running back and forth working with two other clients who had their hair dyed. The employees all felt guilty and asked me many times if I wanted some wine (no doubt trying to make me drunk so I would lose track of how long I was waiting). In total, he took less than 10 minutes to cut and style my short hair. Unfortunately, I spent over two unhappy and uncomfortable hours at this place. Not fun for an elderly lady like myself to have to wait to be served, and making me late afterwards for an important appointment. I am definitely not coming back, and would certain advise all others to avoid using Daniel. read more

I had a very bad experience with my haircut at Salon Daniel. I read the yelp reviews and was excited to get my haircut done by Simone Bechara. I bought a Groupon for haircut, deep conditioner, blow dry and style. The hair wash was good but after applying the hair mask, it was not left in at least for a minute unlike other salons. I had a long hair and asked for a medium length haircut with many "layers" and "side-swept" bangs. I even showed him a picture of what I was exactly looking for. He cut my hair too short and there are absolutely "NO LAYERS". I could not see how much hair he was cutting from behind but it was all done with a single stroke. BASICALLY A BLUNT CUT TO CHOP OFF ALL THE HAIR. Of course I told him before the haircut that I have had this long hair for so long and now I'm looking for medium length. I showed him several times the length I need but he made it to collar-bone length. The hair will grow eventually but the worst part is the hair looks like a nest from behind with no layers and flow. And then he did the side bangs exactly like I asked but they were long and falling on my eye. I asked him to reduce the length upto my brow level and showed him the picture again. He cut a chunk of hair too short and made them "front" bangs. I was horrified and said I don't like front bangs, repeatedly asked for side-swept bangs. He then pulled some more hair and cut it as a long bang so that these small bangs can hide underneath it. It looks like a big chunk on my face now and does not suit me either I style it to the right or left. Simone may be a very experienced hair stylist with good reviews from many but this is just my experience. Hoping others who read this and are going for the first time will not blindly trust the stylist based on the reviews. read more

This place does not even merit 1 Star. I had an appointment with a stylist who came highly recommended. Had never been to the salon before so it was my first time. I have an older child and one who is only a year old and had not been able to get a cut for 10 months :) esp. as i work full time and take care of my kids the rest of the time. I found a babysitter to take care of my little one so I could get the much needed cut...when i got to the salon the receptionist said that the stylist i had the appointment with was not there and that someone else will cut my hair. i was quite surprised by their nonchalant nature...in any case, the substitute came over and her hair was very burnt and awful so I was thinking to myself whether I should trust her or not but before i could answer the substitute scoffed and walked away from me....i wasn't sure what I had said or done.......now i was left wondering if they were going to do anything or if I should leave. I was trying to catch the receptionist's attention but she was busy chatting. Finally someone came over and said another person would cut my hair. This person washed my hair, put conditioner in it and left me sitting at the sink with water dripping down my neck and shirt!! She had disappeared. I was there for 10 minutes before I got up and inquired about her...she came back to lecture me on how i needed to be flexible. I had been in the salon for 35 minutes at this point....Funny, how she would know about flexibility when she didn't have two little kids - I guess to her being able to sit in a salon aimlessly for 2 hours while your children waited for you was being flexible. Sad!! In any case, I spoke with the man who claimed her was the owner Daniel - he had a long good chain around his neck and long bleached blonde curly hair. he was also the most uncaring person in the service industry I have ever come across.....his ego will get in his own way sadly speaking. I tried to explain to him what had happened and instead he started yelling at me at how i was taking up his time from his client!!! WOW!! i have never been treated to poorly but I guess there is a first time for everything. I will not be going back ever to this place and if I can stop any self respecting person from doing the same, I will do so. After yelling at me and drawing attention from others he told me to go back to the sink...i then heard him talking very loudly with his clients about his temper and about me.....i had my older child with me and was very embarrassed and decided to leave....i reached home and felt so humiliated and helpless that I cried for a few minutes and then felt better. This is not how we treat people...let along a client. read more

I have been a customer at salon Daniel for 17 years and I walk out of there feeling like a princess every time. Karina knows exactly what hair color suits me best and I continuously get compliments on my hair, thanks to her. She is definitely the best colorist and stylist in the D.C. Area. I came to see her initially after a disastrous experience at OKio and never turned back. On top of that, she is the nicest warmest person you can meet. She gets the exact shade of auburn I want in my hair every time, is very professional and incredibly accommodating and sweet. I cannot recommend her enough. I gave this pathetic excuse for a Salon one star because thats the lowest I was allowed to, This place deserves no stars. The staff is rude and extremely arrogant. They do not have the etiquette to call and inform you when your hairdresser decides not to show up for work. In addition they do not bother to make alternate arrangements for someone to cut your hair. Instead you will get attitude from Euro trash and a lecture about being flexible. My first visit to this salon. They have two stylist that specialize in African-American/ Black American hair. It's so great to find stylists in the Fairfax County area that know how to do my hair. Chandita did my hair. I like that she is formally trained in cosmetology. She is very attentive to my requests. She uses light products. I'll definitely be returning. Chandita did my hair in combination twists and cornrows. Great style. She was preparing to do a weave when I left. I understand that she and Darrel both do blow outs and flat irons. I have nothing but rave reviews for Melissa who I have been seeing for awhile now!! I now live in DC and come out to McLean for her cuts - they are that good. The cut consistently grows out nicely with no "awkward" phases. I started having her highlight my hair as well and I was incredibly nervous because I wanted it to look natural and it does. Not only are her cuts and color fantastic, but Melissa is incredibly sweet and nice and I always enjoy our conversations. I recently was chased down in an airport bathroom in Atlanta by a woman from my flight from DC insisting on knowing who cut my hair - this happens fairly regularly (ok not the bathroom chasing, but the compliment of hair giving). Best part is that I'm veryyyy low maintenance with my hair and Melissa knows that and cuts my hair accordingly. She takes a very personalized approach by asking a few questions when you sit in her chair so she can get a sense of your personality and then customizes a great style just for you and offers tips on how to recreate your look or how to change it up for some variety.
