Being both displaced and disheveled is not a good thing, but luckily this place came along. I booked an appointment with Luba for a cut on the same day I called and came in a little nervous. My hair was ratty, I didn't have any strong ideas as to what I wanted or how to improve it, and wasn't keen on trying a new stylist. While Luba seemed a little unnerved in the beginning that I didn't know what kind of hairstyle I wanted (I'm a follower what can I say?), she was patient with me as I scrunched my nose and said in so many words "I don't know." A few minutes and a few page flips through a style book later, we came to an understanding that we needed to get my hair in shape in order to do something cool with it in a few months. I agreed, relieved that she was finally taking the lead. As you can tell, I'm one of those people who love suggestions. Restaurants, movies, hair salons, you name it, I'm a sheep! Baaaa That being said, I love my haircut. I even came back for a color gloss a few days later because I loved the idea of seeing how I could naturally cover my wisdom aka my gray hair. I've been going to Luba for cuts and color for years but always forgot to leave review! After going to so many salons in the city, from Bumble & Bumble to Prieto and so on, I discovered Salon de la Rue and Luba. No one could cover resistant grey and get the right color...highlights too brassy...cuts that looked terrible the day after. Luba has NEVER LET ME DOWN! I always walk out of the salon with better hair and a smile. Before I found her, I tried two other salons in the hood--no go. I have two friends who also swear by Luba, not to mention all the neighborhood regulars I recognize. Luba also does threading or waxing. And Lazar cut my 16-year old son's hair really well, too. I went to this salon once before and the experience was satisfactory though not great. They are very close to my house and that is the only reason I will go to them when I'm unable to get to my regular salon which is in my old neighborhood. All I wanted was a wash and blow dry. I told the stylist Lazar I wanted my hair blown completely straight. Half way through I could see my hair flipping up. I mentioned it and he worked to get it straight. He told me how when I next have my hair cut to have the ends texturized so they would hang straight. That is all well and good but I've had this hairstyle for at five years now, have lived in three different states and no one has ever remarked that my hair was too heavy to take my style. And you guessed it, it's two hours after the blow dry and my hair is flipping up. So $40 (close to $50 with tip) down the drain - not happy at all. -an update - Luba telephoned me a few days after this seeing this - she apologized for my less than stellar review and offered me another blow out free of charge - very kind - and it showed to me how she cares about her clients and reads the business reviews - I have no problem changing my review from its original one star to four - thank you again, Luba !! read more

I went to Salon De Larue after extensively searching for a new place to do my keratin treatment. Almira did a better job with my keratin than any of the expensive places I had gone to in Manhattan in the past 10 years. She was so meticulous, making sure to apply the treatment to every single piece of hair to ensure perfection. It came out so beautifully. My hair has never been this straight and soft! Even after a few weeks it still looks as amazing as it did when it was first done. I decided to go back to her for highlights - something I had always wanted to do, but I had never colored or highlighted my hair before. I found a photo of the color I was interested in and Almira once again gave me an incredible outcome. I kept meaning to write a review for this salon from my visit here in 2015 but life got in the way. It was a horrible experience that remained in my mind although now the details are fuzzy so I'll just bullet point what I can remember: -Made appt for me and my cousin because it was my birthday and my family was throwing me a huge party my cousin had come to town to attend. -Got there 10-15 min late. They were annoyed (I get that. It screws up their schedule) -I sit down and tell the stylist how I want my blowout. -My cousin sits and waits to be attended. In the end: -The blowout I got was not good and didn't look how I asked. By "not good" I mean my hair was frizzy and any style the put in evaporated shortly after of leaving the place so I ended up with frizzy mop on my head for my party. Take note that my hair is really good at holding a curl but somehow they did it so it flopped -My cousin was never attended nor talked too. Then a Mom came in with her little girl and they were so nice to them. They took the little girl back to get washed and never even talked to my cousin or explained when she would get her turn. -They were rude, the service was NOT good and I would never go back there. We ended up going to a salon on 9th street that took my cousin in without an appt and gave her a beautiful blowout. Her hair looked MUCH better then mine. read more

Anthony has been my colorist for close to five years. I've followed him to every salon and am so glad to have found him now at Salon de Larue. Anthony is truly a master at what he does. I've had my hair some shade of red the entire time that I've seen him and he always gives me exactly what I want without making it look fake. I get so many compliments on how natural my hair looks. When I'm looking for a change, he is great about giving his feedback when he doesn't think what I want is going to look right. I really appreciate his honesty in that regard. I went to salon de larue for the first time today - for a single process color. I spent about 10 minutes before the colorist put color on my hair explaining a previous experience i had where my roots ended up a different color (a much more intense red) than the rest of my hair so that she could pay extra attention and avoid another such mishap. Well, long story short, my roots ended up a ragedy-ann red while the rest of my hair was the copper red I had wanted. There was a clear line between the color of the roots and the color of the rest of my hair. They were very good about wanting to correct the situation so I sat through another 30 minutes of dye and came out with a head of hair that rivals bozo the clown and now the ends of my hair are a couple shades darker than my roots! Would not go back. Next day update: my colleagues at work have commented my hair is not the same color in the back as it is in the front. awesome. read more

New to Brooklyn, looking for a salon I can across this one. I was pregnant and very unsure as to what I wanted. When I asked for bangs, I got a HUGE chunk of my hair cut off and it's taken almost a year for it to grown out. It looked horrible and all I wanted to do is cry. I called to tell them that they also messed my color up and they said to come back and they would fix it, but of course being that they messed my bangs up I was not wanting them to touch it EVER again. I was pretty desperate and needed someone to fix my hair, so I typed in "short, curly, hair, Brooklyn." With a total leap of faith, I found myself in Stacian's chair and the end results were hands down the best hair cut I've ever had. I completely trust her which is saying alot; I'm pretty obsessive about my hair and not everyone really knows how to deal with curly hair, even if they say otherwise. He has been my colorist for a little over a year and he recently moved to Salon De Larue from a salon that was right up the block from my house. I will religiously follow him wherever he goes, even if he moves to a diffrent borough. I have been to every high end salon in Manhattan from Fekkai to Bumble & Bumble to Serge Normant etc etc ..... and I have never received sooo many compliments on my color as I have now with Anthony. I get my eyebrows done by Victoria here and she is amazing!! I've been getting my eyebrows threaded, waxed, and tweezed for 10+years and Victoria is by far the best I've found!! Amazing shape every time! Inexpensive and accommodating. I won't ever trust someone else with my eyebrows again. The salon is cute and clean, the staff is super friendly. The hairstylist I had was a very nice woman and made sure I was comfortable enough, however I have a bob cut, which is really short hair and wanted a cherry red dye. I did not receive the color I wanted I had instead gotten a burgundy ontop of my already dark hair to where the red now barely shows and it has been a little less under a week. Not only that but I was charged $190 for a full dye on short hair, very little trimming and styled (my hair was just straightened) I wanted to give this place a shot cause I read the reviews and everyone said it was great. Where as the hairstylist are nice, what was done to my already very short hair was not worth 190 when I could have did the coloring myself at home and saved myself the time and money. PERFECTLY GORGEOUS NATURAL LOOKING EXTENSIONS!!! I walked into Salon De Larue just looking for a regular old blowout and was put with Stacey. We chatted a little while she did an awesome and fast job with the blowout, and the topic of hair extensions came up. I've always played with the idea but had heard they ruin your hair, or they don't work on caucasian hair, or they look fake, etc. But Stacey did such a comprehensive job of explaining, without being at all pushy, that I decided to give it a try. Even though I was so excited that I would've done it then and there, she convinced me to take a few days to think it over and give her time to make the best possible hair match. I returned a few days later for the big day and when she finished weaving in the extensions I honestly couldnt believe my eyes. I have actually NEVER walked out of a salon happier in my life and let's just say I've been going to hair salons a loooong time. Seriously like magic. Since then about 5 weeks have gone by and they still look as beautiful and natural as the day Stacey put them in. I live over an hour a away in New Jersey and just happenned to be in Brooklyn that day visiting my sister but since then I've switched to to Salon De Larue for color as well. Stacey is well worth the trip and the time. She has excellent judgement, tons of patience, a lot of knowledge and great hands. This place is fairly new, and I'm so glad it's moved into the neighborhood. First off, what a freaking amazing shampoo I received from the man behind the receptionist counter. Holy crap, it was like a free massage. He took his time, found perfect water temperature, and threw in a nice neck rub. Luba was my stylist and she promptly offered coffee, tea, or wine. I took her up on some organic green tea. She spent time talking with me about my hair: texture, maintenance, the works. I sipped my tea while she snipped away. I noticed that they not only had lots of magazines to peruse, but a garden out back for people to wait (I guess if you're getting your hair colored). The cut and blowout was absolutely amazing. I'm a simple girl and Luba really listened and didn't give me anything that I didn't want. She also introduced me to this outstanding Moroccan hair oil. Please please, go here. This is the place to go for an affordable, modern hair cut. Juno did my first cut and I loved it. He is cash only but I believe other stylists take credit/debit. My second hair cut with them was by a woman who's name I didn't catch. She gave me the exact cut I showed her a picture of and it was $65 total with a wash and blow dry. I'm moving to CT soon but will definitely be back to visit this salon. The only reason I didn't give them five stars is because they're always disorganized at Check-in/check-out. I've gotten Brazilian keratin done here twice, and it's the only place I would go to in the whole city. This husband/wife team are sweet, kind, helpful and professional. She does exactly what I ask- my bangs are always the perfect length and she never over-cuts when all I need is a trim! A stylist that genuinely listens is not always the norm! She is soft-spoken, kind and talented, so it's always a treat to see her. She also helped me with putting two purple streaks in my hair which I've been wanting to do for years! This was my second visit to the Salon. I made an appointment the day before and this time I also brought my girlfriend to get her a hair cut the day before Easter. When we walked in our coats were taking promptly and we are offered coffee, tea, or wine. Robert cut my hair once again and matched the fantastic job he had done the month prior. My Girlfriend had her hair cut by, Tez. She asked for just a slight trim. When my girlfriend was done she came over to me asked me to feel her hair. She was very happy of how soft\silky and her hair was after the blowdry. The price ($55), according to my GF was equal or less then some of the other parkslope places for her long hair. So in conclusion, I scored some brownie points with my GF and we found a great place for both of us to get haircuts. read more

I've been going to him for over two years now, getting highlights and single process to cover greys. I have long, curly hair and Anthony does his work with the precision of a surgeon. He never keeps me waiting, is an awesome colorist, and has great opinions and suggestions (he gradually took me from dark brown to a lighter shade that better suits me). I found this salon because I was chasing Juno, the hairdresser. My best friend used to get her haircut by him at another salon and he always made her look like "Park Slope Barbie." So after tracking him down at this place, I made an appointment and told him my hair was in his hands. He cut beautiful long layers into my fine but abundant hair. I've gotten so many compliments on my cut and it still looks great even as it grows out. I have not gotten any other services there but a single process color. I think the prices are reasonable considering the location... for a cut. The color seemed kind of pricey, but then again.... I once got convinced to pay $300 for a haircut in the city that was only "meh.." I would definitely recommend getting a cut from Juno if you want a great cut from a talented cutter. Walked in to get my eyebrows threaded and the man at the front desk didn't even look up -- one of the stylists had to get his attention for me. I asked if there was anyone available for a threading and he said yes, and walked me all the way to a small room in the very back that's used for storage. He tucked my hair behind my ears several times in a way that felt a little unnecessary. When he was done he also asked if I wanted my upper lip threaded and pushed when I declined. He charged $20 (most places in the neighborhood charge like $7). When I got home I realized that my brows aren't even even! I wanted to get out of there pretty fast so should have looked closer, that's on me. I have very straight hair and it is very hard to cut and I have had a number of bad hair cuts over the years, however, since I have been going to this place I have had nothing but the best haircuts. I came in two days ago to get a keratin treatment. I have wanted it for a long time, but was a little skeptical at first because it was my first time and I wasn't sure how the treatment worked. I went in with Stacey, who was sweet and thorough for the entire three hours of the treatment. The results are amazing! I have never been happier with my hair, it is so soft and shiny and smooth now!! Before, my hair was hard to manage, frizzy, and difficult overall. I am so grateful. I would seriously give this place a -10 horrible horrible service. Firstly I asked for red color and the lady assigned to me seemed nervous she kept going to the owner asking her what to do. I should have known from that. She then bleached my whole head and then put a very bright red on top it was the scariest thing that has ever happened to me. I looked like a clown I wanted to die. The owner came over and kept saying show me the picture of what you wanted this is what you wanted I was almost in tears and was ready to kill her. They then put a toner in my hair which of course darken it. However they knew they messed up and my hair was so damaged at this point and I did not walk in with damaged hair. After the final product it wasn't what I wanted however it was way better then what I looked like before the toner. Anyways getting to the best part of the story is when I got up to pay and they were charging me 300 dollars for everything. I was in disbelief. I told them immediately I will not be paying that amount. Then the owner kept saying I don't care you will pay. They said I was being charged for color correcter however that was not my fault. Then the owners wife grabbed me by my arm and said you don't wanna pay fuck you bitch get out of my store I never wanna see you again. Then the other owner her husband said God will punish you bitch. It was the craziest thing that has ever happened to me. I of course didn't pay and left but I just needed to warn people about this place. So disgusting never again will I rely on Yelp. read more

Recently, on impulse, I got a haircut here. I walked in knowing exactly what I wanted (feeling like I was betraying my long time and very expensive 'guy')-and I will say my in house experience was excellent. For a fraction of top salon prices Stacey gave me a beautiful cut that was exactly what I had asked for; when she blew it out that is. Of course, it's been a week and I have been wearing my hair in a ponytail because I can't replicate her blow out, nor did she factor in that my hair is curly (and therefore much shorter than I wanted..). The other inconvenience is that when I went here I was decidedly broke, but craving the cut so when I made my appointment I asked the prices (55 for a cut, 65 with a blow out). I specifically asked for no major blow out to save the bucks. When she started to styling my hair, I swallowed my pride and reminded her again- no blow out- she insisted. When I checked out I was charged for the blow out. I was too happy with my hair to argue and didn't want to ruin the buzz, although it definitely affected the experience. I enjoyed my time here, but if I were to return I would be much more specific with hair type/length. read more
