I recently visited this salon with several family members for wedding hair and makeup. The hair services were outstanding--Marlene did an incredible job on my hair, and everyone else had glowing experiences with their respective stylists. The entire salon staff was exceptionally friendly and welcoming. On the other hand, the makeup application was highly disappointing. The artist was disengaged and lacked professional warmth. More importantly, the execution was poor; the foundation looked caked on, highlighted my fine lines, and photographed with a strange orange hue. read more

Came for a cut and style a few months ago. Opted for a junior stylist for curl specific haircut. It was a standard cut, pretty boring despite showing pics of prior cuts and what I wanted. We also had to spend an extra 30-60min fixing my hair after it was dry due to one side being way longer than the other. Despite requesting curl specific cut, this girl definitely did not specialize in curls. Prices luckily weren't outrageous with junior cut. Def would not return for curly cut. read more

Went there 3 times and unfortunately last two visits were very disappointing. The service I asked for wasn't done properly either time, and the results were far from what we discussed. I normally stay very loyal to my hairdresser and rarely switch salons, but after these two experiences my hair was honestly damaged and I had to go somewhere else to get it fixed (which they did and with no issues). I was certainly hesitant to visit a new salon and esp as a person of color I wasn't sure if Salon 718 could give me the "silky smooth" blow out that I needed. After re-reading through countless reviews I settled on Salon 718 and booked with Diamond! Diamond SLAYED my hair and gave my hair everything and more that it needed! She was very pleasant and got right down to business! I'm looking forward to returning to her consistently (every 3 mths!) so she can help me keep my hair healthy! Had a balayage done here and over a month and a half later my hair turned orange. Been waiting to hear back for a refund since July. The stylist did not use foil and did not even do a root shadow for my grays. I want a refund for the balayage as it became a mess within a few washes. You're ignoring my emails for a refund of the balayage $250 as my bill was $500. I'm being fair on my end here. Take reasonability for your mistake. I find this to be awful and greedy at this point. Go elsewhere, as they couldn't get my hair right at their two locations. read more

I got my haircut at Salon 718 yesterday and I couldn't regret it more. I came in with hair just above my bra strap and a photo of a long shag, which the article attached called "the octopus cut". Well I just washed my hair and I don't think I've ever had such an unflattering cut. Not only does it not look like a long shag, it has no shape and my fringe is cut so short I'm embarrassed to go outside. Furthermore, the length, which was supposed to fall to my collarbone when dry, is above my shoulders and hits at the middle of my neck. I would say it's a good 3 inches too short and about 4 inches shorter than the photo I brought in. I had a very long discussion about how the last place I got my hair cut took a razor to the ends which immediately and destroyed my hair for about six weeks. Agreeing with me that that was a bad method to cut my hair type, I was hopeful the stylist understood hair texture and the results wouldn't have come out as tragically. Boy was I wrong. I would rather have a haircut that looked good with ends that were going to need extra attention in order to prevent further damage than the haircut I received at Salon 718. I will never step foot into this salon ever again and will actively dissuade anyone in Dumbo from getting their hair cut there. Lastly, the cut was expensive and the default tipping options started at 20%. I normally tip 20-25%, but with the amount of talking I had to endure during the service and the resulting disaster I now have to hide whilst I grow it out, was not worth the time wasted or the money spent. Very much do not recommend. read more

A year ago I came to Salon 718 to finally do a big chop with Diamond. From the mintue I met Diamond she was able to relate to my hair struggles and was able to guide me to what it was going to take to get my hair healthy again. I saw Juan today for gloss treatment. He had such a calming, sweet demeanor and was extremely knowledgeable. He showed my the gloss options and helped me choose the right color. He then blow tried my hair - even though that was not included in the treatment I booked - because he cared so much about making sure I had the color I wanted. My cut isn't what I wanted at all, and it's worse than when I came in. I'd probably just come for a blowout but curly cuts is clearly not a specialty. read more

After having two hugely disappointing haircuts at two reputable salons, I was both frustrated and desperate to get a haircut that wouldn't leave me looking like a stereotype for my age. Walking into Salon 718 at the DUMBO location, I was greeted by two attractive upbeat women who made me feel immediately that I was in very good hands. Alyssa sat me down and really listened to what I was explaining and to what I wanted. She then threw out a few ideas of her own which were right in synch with what I was trying to communicate. She did a little sample of a "razor cut" on a small section in the back of my hair and asked me if I liked how it looked. Well that was it!! I knew immediately that she "got me" and that she was going to give me the Fun and Edgy cut that I had been looking for for a long time! Her creative razor skills were making me smile, relax, and forget about how much I had hated my last two hair cuts. When she was all finished, I felt like I had just been given a whole new look, but a look that other stylists hadn't been able to achieve. She is very creatively talented, but even more so, she reads her clients extremely well. And this is what makes the difference between a stylist who just does their "job," and a Master Stylist like Alyssa, who approaches her craft as an artist with insight and a sensitivity to pleasing her clients.
